They had a single origin Colombian bean on espresso today, which made for wonderful latte and cappuccinos for us. They also rotate a Tanzanian blend on espresso, which according to the barista, is slightly weaker in milk-based drinks, which makes sense. They also source a decently strong matcha, which our daughter enjoyed as a latte, but might be better straight, without milk, to really taste the pure tea. Also, the Cinnamon roll was delicious. For fun: they have several different sizes to-go cups for different espresso drinks. I've rarely seen this. The latte paper cup is larger than the cappuccino paper cup! My favorite cafe while I was in Montreal. The vanilla latte was excellent - smooth and light with a hint vanilla. The pastries were also incredible. The rolls are where it is at. The Cardamom roll and Cinnamon roll were light, fluffy with great flavor but not too sweet. Great coffee shop vibe that i would describe as cozy hipster. Feels like a spot of Brooklyn. The long dark wood tables and bookshelves made it a great setting to work. There were people working on their laptop and reading here. The staff was so friendly and great to have a chat with. The place is small but spacious, I think it's the ideal place to study or work near Saint Laurent. The drinks are decent but not mind blowing. When I passed by they didn't have any biscuits or pâtisseries but I expect them to be similar. The service was good, there was only one guy behind the counter and he was running to get all the orders out quickly. Overall a good place to spend some time. read more

I was so caught up in the mesmerizing #cafeculture, I forgot to capture it with a photo. This is the crap we're missing in NYC! Love love love the artistic, come as you are vibes. As per my eavesdropping, I do declare I was the only tourist there, #score. The Coffee: Decadent, enough of a jolt to get you going, but not too much to make you run to the bathroom, lol. It was scalding hot! (just how I like it, so i can sip for AT LEAST a half hour), served in a real life mug! (I thought they might not come back Post-Lockdown, how *dare* we drink from the same mug as someone else :,)) Also, the barista knew *exactly* what he was doing, there doesn't seem to be that hatred of work we have in the US, in this country...and I LOVE it. Wanted to try out a new cafe and came across this gem yesterday. I frequent many coffee shops in Montreal and I would put Cafe Nocturne's coffee as one of top 15%. The latte was strong and the aroma was wonderful. The whole cafe abounds with coffee aroma and creates a great vibe. Even though there are lots of students studying there and usually it can be quite congested but other than this minor issue, I felt it was a great place to have a good quality coffee. The barista was super friendly and greeted with a wide smile. Who doesn't love a smile? :) There is a patio on the back of the cafe and I assume it would be a nice place to hangout with friends during summer. Besides coffee, the interior is also nicely decorated, creating an overall welcoming environment. Would definitely go again and recommend to others! read more

Crowded .... Very poor wifi .... but good coffee and a tasty scone if not a bit hard like most but good flavor of butter ... which makes me wonder what type of butter they use. The staff was very friendly even though the place was packed. Pick a less packed day and time ... then this would be a sweet spot to visit. I was sitting at a café and across i notice Café Nocturne and I said to myself, next time I will go there. Here I am today, and I wasn't sure what was I expecting. It has minimal decor, tons of space. The look is complete rustic. Two pieces of decor are absolutely stunning! The world map taking the whole wall and an antique clock (not working) at entrance wall. My barista person was super nice. The disappointing part is that this café doesn't have much to offer for food. Few muffins, cookies and scones. I asked if they offer anything hearty. She said bagel with cream cheese. So I decided to settle with bagel and cream cheese with a chai latte. My food was satisfying, but I do wish they had more to offer such salad or better sandwiches. I spent a good 1/2 hour. The ambiance was soothing and calm while I was eating and reading my book. They also have free WIFI. read more

Tbh, I never liked matcha lattes because they're not yummy but as people get older, their tastes change. For me, I guess I just got more basic because matcha lattes became my choice beverage at cafes in 2018. So clearly I got one here and to be even more basic, ofc I got it with soy (I'm not even lactose intolerant). I honestly wasn't expecting much. I always get matcha lattes. They're never bomb but I just continue to get them. Wow. Like this one actually has flavour but wasn't powdery. Was creamy but didn't taste likit was made with cream (there are definitely some where I've wonder if cream was used instead of milk). Let me also add that I went to 3 other cafes around the area on Boxing Day and they were all closed. When everyone else shuts you out, nocturne got your back. read more

Stumbled upon this cafe while walking through the neighborhood because of the decor that caught my eye. I could see that this a great place to work in because of their high work tables and decent lighting. My friends and I got their matcha latte and chai latte, both iced. The matcha was unsweetened so get this if you are a lover of matcha. The ice chai latte was sweet and delicious. I stopped here for a quick coffee-to-go and I was not disappointed! It's a cute little café with a rustic charm that seems to be popular among students. It was a rainy Sunday afternoon (around 2pm) and the place was packed; I had originally planned to study there, but decided to grab my machiato to go instead. Their service was quick and amiable, and their prices are standard for a third wave café. Their machiato was delicious; their espresso is to die for, and that dollop of milk really takes off a little of the bite and adds a nice fragrance. Definitely not the machiato you get at Starbucks. Nice quick service if you're looking for a coffee and a snack to go. If you're looking to stay a while longer, try to arrive a little earlier to cop a seat! read more

This has been my favorite coffee shop ever since I moved to the city for school!!! The barista's are the sweetest people ever and I love the cute little question of the day they have. But most of all the coffee is absolutely amazing!!!! I always get an iced latte with oat milk. but I've tried the chai's and matcha as well and all of it is fantastic. It's definitely the best I've had in Montreal, and I've tried a lot of places :) The studying vibes are also amazing, there are a few cute little window seats if you have the chance ! Over the summer of 2016, this coffee shop changed owners therefore it is called Cafe Nocturne instead of Kitsune. Everything in the shop is the same except the sign on the wall that used to say Kitsune. There are lights that hang over the cashier now. A few things have been added to the menu like juices. I also believe they changed the beans that they use. They now offer Dispatch beans and you can buy the beans in bags. The name has changed, but everything is pretty much the same. If this is your first time at Nocturne, it is a great place to study because they have great lighting and wifi! There are outlets on the walls that you can use as well. I usually order their filter coffee and add milk in. You can request for extra space in your cup so that you can put in milk or request for your cup to be filled to the top if you just want black coffee. TRY THEIR CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE! It is so delicious. It is very chewy and moist! Everyday they offer a wide variety of baked goods. Croissants, apple turnovers, cinnamon rolls, raisin rolls, chocolate banana muffins and more are offered on the daily! read more

This is a superbly designed cafe with seating options at the front, along tall tables opposite the counter, on a cushioned bench beside the bookshelf, and in the back alcove. The floors and brick and wood surfaces exudes a warmth to contrast with the white tiled and painted walls. The chai latte was among the best I've had while the coffee filtre (regular coffee dripped through a filter of grounds) was strong and hot. Location: Nocturne replaces the café previously known as Kitsuné. It's a short walk west of St. Laurent. Street parking is a rarity in these parts so your best bet is to walk over. The closest subway is St. Laurent and you can walk or bus up. The place: The place is very small and, I think (it's been a while), they kept the same decor as the previous owners. It's cozy but don't expect a table if you come during peak hours. This place is near McGill so I'm guessing it's probably pretty busy when school is on. The goods: My Australian friends and I ordered lattés and croissants. I liked the latté - it was balanced and served hot. I point this out because typically, I need to request 'extra hot' to make sure that my lattés and similar beverages are actually hot enough. My friends are from Melbourne where the coffee scene is booming so I was pleased to hear that they enjoyed their coffee! The croissant was fresh - it's not usually my go-to snack but there isn't a huge variety of items and I wanted something neutral. They had scones and I remember seeing giant chocolate chip cookies, too. Service: Good. Price point: I think the coffee and croissant were about $7. read more

Espresso was well balanced and had a lovely crema on top that stayed until practically the last sip. The cappuccino I had on another visit was perfect. Super creamy, light but dense, and pretty! They use organic whole milk which would certainly have an effect on that creamy sweetness. We were staying in Montreal over the weekend and had coffee here all 3 mornings. This cafe is absolutely adorable. My sister and I were biking around the town on our day off and stopped here for a quick cup of coffee and to relax. We were served with glass mason jars and paper straws, which was such a nice touch and showed environmental awareness. Beautiful café in plateau, a bit hidden so pretty quiet. I like the rustic decor inside the café, as well as the cute plants. They offer good coffee and the atmosphere is very relaxing. The panoramic glass window offers a lot of light but the inside tables are not super sunny, so more recommended for light sensitive people.
