I love this place. Everything I've had is great. For this visit, I got the grilled chicken sandwich and a side of grits. The sandwich was better than expected and will probably be my go-to moving forward. The char grilled taste makes it. Very flavorful for a chicken sandwich! The salad was really good but what I saw from the owner in the drive thru window was not what you want your customers to see when you are fussing at your staff right in front of an open drive thru window. I had high hopes when they built a new, bigger restaurant, but same ole crap. I had hoped they'd be more like Cagney's on Cloverdale Ave. in Winston-Salem, but I guess as nasty cooks. This place stays open WHY? Meatloaf is actually terrible, Country Style Steak is more like Salisbury steak made too mushy with nasty brown gravy as they call it. I live very close to S. Main one but drive back into Winston to eat at Cloverdale Ave location where the cooks are master chefs compared to S. Main. These two Cagney's could not be more different, thank God. Go to 2201 Cloverdale Ave. The manager is awesome and the staff so efficient and friendly you'll feel at home. This location is sadly shown no improvement with just breakfast as being decent. Always a good choice for a hearty meal. Chopped steak aka hamburger steak was perfect, with a side of broccoli casserole and cucumber salad for the wife. We stopped by for a rare free-day breakfast. I do t normally eat breakfast or have many days off, but it is the perfect time of year for an outing. I got the Friday breakfast and coffee. Sausage eggs, biscuit, and gravy. It was all decent. The eggs were not over well as requested. The gravy tasted as if it was a mix. I'm not sure how that works. It was okay, toning special. Overall it was fine. My wife got liver mush and a pancake which were both great. The liver mush had that perfect fried crust that is hard to get. The coffee was average, but I'm a bit of a coffee snob and usually drink it black. I put cream and sugar in mine today. Overall I'd say Cagneys is not. Greasy spoon. I would categorize it as a standard NC family restaurant. Decent, cheap, southern food. read more

This is one of my favorite Sandwich places. I love yheir club sandwich and homemade chips. A moay delicious sandwich. Im on the fence about their fish. The onion rings are crispy and medium cut. I often go to Cagneys for lunch and dinner. And one of the waitresses there knows me right when I come in for breakfast and knows my order. They have excellent chicken livers and chicken sandwiches. And I love their bbq chicken. You get half a chicken on bbq chicken day. My husband and I often meet his father and his wife there for lunch and the staff knows us when we come in. We use to go all the time to get the Black Angus Steak. It was better than a steak house. The servers knew who we were every time. This place is open with limited dining during COVID and all the staff that I saw were wearing face masks (& properly at that). However, while the door had "mask required" signs on both doors , people were allowed in without a mask. They went to the bathroom without masks, they got up stood in line to pay their bill and went back to their table without masks. When asked about allowing this the man at the register ( I do not know his name nor his relationship to the restaurant-staff, manager, owner ,etc.) stated " we can only recommend that masks are worn". Ordered from here for the first time this morning as I had to take our dog to the vet to get neutered. I walk in to pick up my to go order and this young brown headed girl walks up to the counter and stares at me then turns away and crosses her arms. She didn't ask me how she could help me or anything like that. After about a minute of me staring at her. I finally said I'm here to pick up a to go order and told her my name. At this point she looked annoyed. She grabbed my food and told me the total. I paid and she told me to sign the receipt. When I handed her the receipt she then proceeded to snatch it out of my hand. I have worked in a restaurant before and this is NOT how you treat people especially your customers. This is my first and last time here. I also will not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Had one of the Friday night specials, Country Style Steak ($6.95) with rice, pinto beans and bbq slaw with texas toast. The steak was tender, with an excellent brown gravy. Pintos were fine, and the slaw course chopped, and had a good taste. For some reason, I went in with low expectation, but the food I ordered was very good. Tea tasted great, and the service was good. For dessert I ordered a piece of Italian lemon crème pie (cake), and it tasted almost exactly like Olive Garden. It was chilled like Olive Gardens cake, and it was great. read more

Saw a girl pull down long strands around her face, then took trays to the tables with hair hanging down. Please be quieter telling the cook through the window what your order is.
