We really wanted to try the new spot down the street but couldn't get in the parking lot. So glad this place was close by. It was a great choice but I knew that from last year when I had a breakfast sandwich that I preordered and picked up in the drive through on my way to an appointment nearby. The food was hot and fresh-we both had veggie omelettes. Mine was cheese with spinach and mushrooms with home fries (pictured) and dry toast (asked for dark but didn't get it -that's okay) and my coworkers was veggie no tomato sub for spinach, and grits with rye toast. I admit that the rye looked good and it was seedless so I'll definitely try that one next time. My only other wish was that the coffee was piping hot but it wasn't. I had high expectations as this is a spot that people mention frequently and I had never been before! The menu was quite large with many options. I went for early lunch and ordered grilled marinated chicken with okra and broccoli casserole. I was unimpressed. The chicken had no flavor and was dry. The okra was ok but not seasoned well. The broccoli casserole was very bland and needed salt and pepper or something. I don't salt much but the food needed something. Jake's diner is go to a spot when we want diner food. We always take advantage of the breakfast items that was the same today. The eggs were cooked spot on for over easy and the home fries or seasoned well and tasted great. Inside was clean. And well organized. Our server was great. Well...the waitstaff was awesome. Biscuit was soggy. Bacon crispy(thankfully). Grits bland. Eggs decent. The thing that ticked me off was speaking to the chef and telling her gracious and speaking fluent Spanish to her and she still completely ignored me while I was paying. The only reason I spoke to her was bc she came up to my waitress and spoke to her while I was leaving. My bill was $8 and I tipped $5 just bc the waitress was so accommodating. Not sure if the chef is hard of hearing, but I do not appreciate being ignored especially when giving a meaningful, heart felt compliment. I'll never be back. read more

A true diner with a friendly staff. I really enjoy their traditional breakfast items and their hamburgers with a side of hash browns. For me, there is something irresistible about a burger cooked on a flat grill. The flavors are intact and the sear from the grill keep in the moisture. They serve the burger on a nice roll with lettuce, tomato, onions and mayonnaise. Jake's does a nice job and they don't pretend to be anything different than what they are. I like to sit at the counter, interact with the others and talk with the waitresses. The food is if good quality, the service is prompt and the prices are fair...it makes for a solid meal and I'd encourage you to give them a try. read more

The N Battleground location is the best of all the Jake's Diners in town. It is usually full. Usually there for breakfast, but lunch and dinner have been good, too. The serice is great!! Jake's doesn't get enough credit. It's a cute spot, with great food and cute decor. They play music from the 60s and 70s and the staff always gets our order right. This was a tasty breakfast for lunch! I started off with a nice cup of coffee with some international delight french vanilla creamer. I appreciate that they have this creamed bc many diners do not. Jake's other locations have always been solid choices for breakfast or a quick diner lunch(usually plates, like Chicken Fried Steak on Tuesdays, etc), so I decided to give this one a try - actually stopped in three over a 8 or 9 day period for take out. I had not really tried the burgers or sandwiches at Jake's so I decided that I'd give a few a try. Over that span I tried their ATW Burger ($7.20) with a side of Onion Rings, an all Beef Hot Dog ($2.50), a Chopped Steak Sandwich ($8.70) with Chips as a side, a Hamburger Club ($7.50) with Fries, and a Sausage Dog ($3.95). Some where along the way I grabbed a Chef's Salad ($7.95), to be healthy you see! After working my way thru the above items, I couldn't help but come to the conclusion that sandwiches are not their strong suit, and the sides are more than a little pedestrian, much like many diners. The hot dog was very average, decent wiener but not much taste to the chili, and the Chopped Steak Sandwich had much the same problem as the chili, though a good helping of salt helped some! The Sausage Dog was ok once the overly sweet slaw was mostly removed. The ATW (all the way) Burger was also just ok with the same chili adding little, but I wouldn't settle for it when there are some many superior choices available, and a poor side adds nothing, so the pricing isn't a real plus either. The Hamburger Club, with cheese, was pretty good, and I'd order it if in the area, and was craving one (I do really like a Hamburger Club) - but it would not be a destination spot for the club, like Country Kitchen is! And finally, the Chef's Salad was very good, with plenty of meat and cheese, and fresh lettuce. The Thousand Island Dressing was also very nice - would reorder this! I might come back to this location for breakfast or a lunch plate, but would not for a sandwich! read more

I was informed my pick-up order was ready at 10:05. I get there around 10:15-10:20. I told the lady who was at the to-go order area my name. She walked off and I assumed she would go check to see if my order is ready. It was, see attached picture. They were busy, but not that busy where she couldn't have walked over to where my order was ready and bag it for me. And I would have been out within 5 minutes. It took her another 15-20 minutes before she bagged my order and gave it to me. I left and then came back inside and she says "Is there something wrong?" I replied with "No, just double-checking my order." I didn't want to go all the way home and then the order not be correct. After I gave my answer, she gave me a look. So then I said "Is that not ok?" I get home and decided to call and ask to speak with the manager. A lady who answered said they were busy and asked if they could call me back. I told her that was not needed and to pass along my feedback of the above situation; "I came to pick up my to-go order and had to wait an extra 15-20 minutes when I could have been out in less than 5 minutes." the lady who answered the phone just hung up after I said that. One would expect a response of something along the lines of either: 1) Yes, I'll make sure the manager knows. 2) I apologize for your experience and make sure the manager is aware But no, just hung up on me. I'm assuming the lady who picked up my phone was also the lady who decided I should wait an extra 15-20 minutes for no reason. Safe to say I will never go back, there are plenty of other places with as good or even better food and service. read more

One of my favorite diners to visit, and I go there every Sunday with my father as tradition, is Carolina's diner near the airport. Yesterday, we went there and they were swamped so we tried here. One of the benefits of Carolina's diner, aside from the good food is they all wear masks properly, and are friendly about it, and since COVID, each table has a clear partition between tables for safety My father is a very high risk person due to Chemo. Also even though he has gotten his shots, we have a cousin (and son, too) who also got his shots and still got covid. Not only were most of the tables at Jakes being used, but there were no clear safety partitions and tables were mostly close. Furthermore most of the waitresses not wearing masks over their noses. It was a danger to my father. Next weekend we will go back to Carolina's diner. read more

Freshly opened last week. Burgers, sandwiches, and breakfast all day. This is super friendly, and newly remolded and fresh appearance. The restrooms are perhaps holdover from when this was Kentucky Fried Chicken. The door and the lighting are but otherwise clean. Brie was a wait person and friendly as all get out. They are working out a few start-up kinks and most patrons were understanding. There are no pies yet in the pie case - I am looking forward to that. Breakfast items are mostly included but hash browns or fries were extra. The sausage was Neeses - super good. Prices were affordable. We arrived at 2:00 PM but the parking lot was almost full. We were back to Jake's Battleground location for a second time today after a doctor's visit. We arrived both times just before lunch time. As a result we were seated immediately and the service was quick. Bree was our server today and did a good job. She even brought a refill on our Iced Teas without me having to ask, but she brought one for Mary who never finished her first one, especially in the big glass Jake's serves you. While we appreciated the thought and service it was a waste of money for them since Mary's didn't get touched. We have had the Hamburgers both times with fries, mine a Bacon Cheeseburger and Mary a Hassel Burger. On both visits they have been out of stock on something we ordered but the server did not know until she placed our order. She then had to come back to get a replacement. Today it was Hot Potato Chips, and I don't remember what it was the last time. I know this location is relatively new, but they should at least have the experience to keep common items on stock. The burgers were ok, but wouldn't make me drive there especially for them. We stopped because we were in the area at lunch time. If we go back, maybe I will order breakfast to see how it is. read more
