Found this hidden gem yesterday after I had to drive to Greensboro for an emergency. First off I want to start by saying Destiny the server who helped us yesterday gets 5 Stars!!! Her hospitality was great she was very patient and she always had a smile on her face!!! If you love sweet tea be sure to grab one, they make the besttttt sweet tea!!! My friend's food came out along with my French toast but destiny let us know that they were bringing the rest of my food. I tried the French toast and though it was cold it was still good. I give the French toast a 6/10!! Once the rest of my food came out I could tell I was in for a treat! The eggs were scrambled with the perfect amount of cheese 10/10 The sausage has a great taste 9/10 Bacon was cooked to perfection 9/10 The grits were also good 7/10 The fat cat special is only $20 My friend had the Philly cheese steak omelette. Take the time to come for either breakfast or lunch or dinner. My favorite time at at Jake's diners is for breakfast. YUM YUM YUM! I generally enjoy Jake's but today was exceptionally delicious! The food was perfect and piping hot. We stopped in around noon on Sunday, waited around 5 minutes which wasn't bad at all considering the crowd, and immediately got sat and waited on. Our waitress was really friendly. I also observed another waitress being raked over the coals by a couple of tables with one complaint or another and she handled them all with ease, never losing her composure. Honestly, I would have had a hard time not losing it myself considering the "complaints". Rather petty in my opinion, but I'm easy going. :) Anyway, the parking at this location on Battleground is pretty easy especially if you go to the back lot. The waiting area is nice, also. I love the counter seating, too. The food: ah! So yummy. I know it seems crazy to ooh and aah over diner food, but I'm telling you it was THAT good. My parents also enjoyed theirs, but unfortunately, I wasn't able to grab a picture before they devoured. My dad ordered the sausage gravy biscuit with eggs, and my mom created her own egg white omelette. Both amazing! I love their turkey club, too. And the crinkle cut fries! The prices are also very reasonable and you can pay using a QR code, which is quite convenient. There are a few Jake's locations around town and I think this one on Battleground is the best. I've not yet tried the new location downtown but plan to ASAP! Definitely don't count out Jake's as a great breakfast, lunch, or even dinner option in Greensboro! read more

Monday's Blue Plate Special is Beef Tips. About as tender and you can get. With two sides, choice of bread and a drink. Amazing. I usually just come here for breakfast, or a salad and a burger. Came out to Gboro for my daughter's dentist appointment. She chose this place so we rode about 10min to it. The was plenty of parking, which is always convenient. We were told to pick our seats which was a great start! Waitress was attentive and friendly. She took our orders efficiently. Kind to tell us she had all the jelly flavors when we asked her for jelly. I had the bacon cheese omelet which I first thought it looked a bit small but it did the job. Great taste and bacon just crispy enough. Also got a short stack with chocolate chips and it didn't disappoint. The biscuit was fresh and delicious. She got bacon and pancakes, ate most it! Taking some pancakes to go but she was pleased. There were other guests so they do get people here for good eating. The music was light, the air was on and the overall layout was enjoyable. One thing I look forward to on Thursday's is meatloaf at Jake's! I've eaten at all the Jake's in town, but the one on Battleground hits the spot for me! The servers there are on top of it! The young lady that waited on me last night made sure everything was perfect before I walked out the door. I might not have mentioned it, but I got take out, but I was still in and out in less than 5 mins., and I didn't order until I got there? The place is always inviting and even though the parking lot was full last night, they still took care of me the second I walked through the door! For the last couple of weeks the quality of the cooking was lacking. What happened, did the cook leave? I always order over easy eggs and they were always perfect until about 2 weeks ago. Got there early and waited for service. It was not crowded. We finally got our order taken and ordered breakfast. We waited over 35 minutes to get our food and never got our drinks refilled. Totally unacceptable! To add fuel to the fire, a four top came in and was served their food before ours arrived. It was definitely our last trip there. The website says open to 9 pm- I walk in on Saturday at 7 pm 3 weeks in a row- The waitress starts telling all customers the grill closing at 730 and you need to leave by 8- They ran out of sweet tea at 7 pm and would not make anymore - You can clean and sanitize your tea urn and the defuser / make the tea and then put the tea in the freezer for 1 hour and then move to the walk-in cooler - Chick FIL A does this. Have eaten here twice now. First time I had a club sandwich with fries. Large portion especially of the good crinkle fries. Second time I had the large breakfast with eggs, ham, sausage, hash Browns and french toast. Also had a country ham biscuit. The hash browns were crisp on the outside and soft inside...perfect. Stay away during slow times!!!! Hopefully it's better when they are steady but when the servers are slow, you will get zero service. You will sit there and watch servers eat at the bar and complain.
