Checked out Cajun Soul in Cocoa Village today and here are my thoughts.  We started with the ordered Southern Poutine (fries with cheese curds and pot roast). Comfort food. I ordered the Shrimp & Crawfish Étouffée as my entree. Liked the presentation and the portion size. A tiny bit spicy for my taste but I still enjoyed eating it.** ** Service was very welcoming and the best part is that is a local business. Always happy to support local eateries. Parking was a little tricky but I called and they said park behind the car oil business and sure enough there was public parking on the grass across the church. read more

Truly conflicted one how many stars to give for this review. Off rip I want to give 2 because of staff, but on the other end the food wasn't too bad and one of the waitresses was very kind and friendly. We decided to have dinner when they had soulfood Sunday. The original waitress we had was cool and friendly, but the 2nd was not friendly, never took a drink order, never told us what was still available. We orginally ordered yams, after 15/20 of waiting we were told there weren't any left and what would we like to replace it with, but luckily they discovered they had enough for at least one serving. The peel & eat shrimp is literally too salty to eat. Following this dinner we had full blown headaches and suspect it was from this salty dish that we could not finish. The catfish was cooked well, and seasoned well, yet also salty along with the collard greens. The mac was good and balanced, the bite with some catfish was perfect. I was happy they did bring out the yams because they were made perfectly, soft, not too sweet and complimented every part of the meal. The smothered porkchops, a bit too smothered for our liking in a salty gravy. Trying to eat the porkchop itself was a challenge not worth much because you may be getting fatty piece. My wife, being the kind person she is, decided to try dessert. She has been looking for real banana pudding, what they had left was red velvet cake. Came here with some friends who swore the food was absolutely delicious and they were absolutely correct. I got the catfish imperial with the blackened catfish and WOW, there was so much seasoning on the catfish that I hardly recognized it was a fish. It was perfectly seasoned and the rice complemented it very well. It also came with crawfish etouffee and my goodness, this elevated the dish to a whole other level. It was creamy and savory, and when you combine the etouffee with a piece of the catfish over rice, you get the PERFECT bite. The service was amazing and all the staff were friendly and attentive. The ambiance of the restaurant took me back to NOLA and I've never even been there! Needless to say, this is a must-visit restaurant if you love anything Cajun. read more

Really cool interior! With a stage for occasional entertainment when they put on shows. The menu has a lot of options, but definitely skewed to the heavier/fried side. It would probably be hard to eat here, if you're trying to be healthy, since you'd want all the dense and hearty dishes! We had seafood jambalaya, the chicken sandwich and a shrimp po boy. Great time last night eating some delicious crawfish at Cajun Soul. It was busy but we were able to be seated at the bar where Michele really took care of us. Lots of draft beer selections! Our food came out about 15 min after we ordered it allowing us to relax and have a few sips. We ordered the 3lbs of crawfish with collards and red beans/rice. Yum-my is all I have to say about this place. If you are in the mood from some true southern cuisine, give Chef Kenya's spot a shot. I ordered the fried catfish plate and it was just like grandma used to make. The Mac and cheese needs to have its own shout out. Shoot. It needs its own Instagram page. The Mac and cheese if theee best! It had the cheese pull and all. My daughter would not keep her fork off of my cornbread. It was soft and not too crumbly with just the right amount of sweetness. Everyone at the table declared 10/10 for their dishes--fried chicken sandwich and the voodoo burger (spicy!). Good luck decided on what to order. I'm already thinking about what will be on my next plate. We came on a Sunday and it was not too busy, but it was at a weird time-2 pm. Amazing!! Went here for dinner on a Friday evening and it we were seated immediately. I ordered their signature margarita, which was delicious and strong but not overpowering. My friend had the sangria and said it was very tasty. We both ended up getting the catfish imperial with a side of collard greens. It was DELICIOUS! Very well seasoned but not too salty. The portion size was pretty large. I also ordered a Cajun smash burger to go for my husband, and he loved it. The food did not disappoint. The service was also great. Well, I have to say she was beaming at me on Sunday. Cajun Soul Bistro & Bar came up in my random name generator, which happens to be Soul Food Sunday here. Let's just say we've got a new number 1 in the county. This place has been open for about a year and a half, according to my EIC. I had him call to get their back story. While neither Kenya nor Lance were on site, he did speak with Mika. Mika said she had been with Kenya forever, going back to the food truck days. They still have a food truck and use it to cater events and such. Kenya, from Georgia, brings the Soul and Flavor to the menu, while Lance, from Louisiana, adds the Cajun and Heat. Only in America! In the words of Yakov Smirnoff, "What a country!" Manny was my waiter today and he was adequate. He performed his duty with professionalism and slightly above average competency. I asked Manny for some Buttermilk Fried Chicken, one Chitterlings Dinner, a Meatloaf Dinner and some Banana Pudding to round out my incursion into Cajun Soul Bistro & Bar's menu. The day chef was on top of his game as not only was our food out in no time, but take a peep at those pics! The food was plated with care, made with love and served with a goodly portion. Not what it would have been 5 years ago, but bigger than your average "shrinkflation" serving you get these days. I eagerly wrapped my mits around a piece of fried fowl and ripped off a nice-sized chunk. The chicken was tender, juicy and flavorful, while the batter was obviously applied by hand and just as succulent as the meat. How did they do this? The chicken is marinated in a Buttermilk brine. Yes, you read that right. A Buttermilk brine. Day-um, Kenya! Brilliant!! My chosen sides of Mac & Cheese, Corn bread and Butter beans were on par with the Chicken. The whole thing was a dance of joy on the palate and I was in Southern Heaven. Forcing myself to move on, I took a cautious taste of the Chitterlings Dinner. I always order this when given the opportunity in a place that serves Soul Food, as it is a disgusting food item and MUST be prepared properly even to be edible, let alone scrumptious. Today, 40 years after my first taste of this Soul Food staple, I found the embodiment of Chitin perfection. Holy Wilbur, Charlotte! I done died and went to Soul Food Heaven. Un. Real. Once again, I had to force myself to move on as I had a job to do and if I didn't stop "sampling" the chitlins I wouldn't have room for the Meatloaf and Nana' Pudding. Speaking of the Meatloaf, one bite in and I was in love. It was dense in texture and complex in flavor. The side of Cajun Yams were banging. These were also the BEST collard greens I've ever had. The Candied yams were flawless and the Banana Pudding so freakin' addictive I wanted to buy the whole tray and take it home. Wow!!!! My family waited until Cajun soul food opened for dinner and we were so excited when we entered and were greeted like family in an atmosphere that transported us to fun and that New Orleans vibe;). Our server Erika was a doll:). She shared expert advice for first timers and the chef delivered on flavor and love. Our expectations were exceeded and time spent here soothed our spirits. The atmosphere, kindness of everyone and genuine care that the entire staff shared with us was memorable, the shrimp gumbo I had was well seasoned and the fried pork chops were delicately fried, served hot and delicious... with a side of gravy:). I don't even know how to start this review because every time I start thinking of the meal I had here, my mouth starts watering and I have to go scavenging in the kitchen for anything that could possibly satisfy the now-permanent itch I have for Cajun Soul's food. We started with fried green tomatoes and boudin egg rolls. They were both fantastic. In fact, the boudin egg rolls were so fantastic, we had to order another batch. If you eat here without trying the boudin egg rolls, you are messing up! Our mains were the voodoo smashburger, the cajun poutine, and the seafood jambalaya. Let's start with the burger. I normally can take or leave smashburgers. I find they're usually poorly done, overcooked, and generally taste like you licked the grill. Not so here! It was everything your taste buds are looking for when you read "smashburger," and the house-made remoulade definitely puts it head and shoulders above any you've had before. Now the poutine. Same deal here, I can take it or leave it when it comes to poutine, even when I'm traveling in Canada. Then I met Cajun Soul's poutine. Instead of over-reduced, salty, one-note brown gravy, their poutine is covered in etouffee. Is it the classic recipe? No. Does it vastly improve on the classic? HELL YES. Poutine haters and lovers alike will find themselves bowled over by this dish. Finally, I saved the best for last: the seafood jambalaya. I actually ordered this to take home, so I didn't know how incredible it was until I was an hour's drive away. Had I known what treasure I was carrying home in my bag, I would have ordered three to go. First, the proteins are very generous. You won't find yourself struggling to get some magic in every bite. Then there's the sauce--a spicy cream sauce which I *will* be haunting the chef about. I need this recipe! I also particularly like that the seafood jambalaya is served over orzo pasta. It really elevates the dish. The decor is adorable and I hear they will be having live entertainment on their stage soon. If you don't come for the food (have your head checked), you will still find a full bar, a cocktail menu, and a fun atmosphere. We stumbled upon this restaurant in Cocoa and wow were we surprised. We came on Soul food Sunday and it was incredible. The buttermilk fried chicken was cooked to perfection and the sides were delicious. Our server was great and super attentive. The staff were so polite and friendly.
