Rosette cake - ombré inside and out.

Cake Artist Cafe, located in the heart of Cranford, made me a beautiful cake for a bridal shower I hosted. The cake tested as good as it looks! The staff made ordering very easy and one of the team members also helped carry the cake to my car. The price for the cake was less than two other places I got a quote from. They also offer custom cupcakes, cookies, and have a display of ready-to-eat goodies if you want to just pick up dessert for home.

First off, the customer service was fantastic. Second, they did an amazing job with this gender reveal cake making exactly what I envisioned. Not only was it visually amazing it was also delicious. Would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Received my birthday cake from here. Cake was good a little dense. Still good. Decorated beautifully buttercream was wonderful

Beautiful cake, but the flavor was just not worth the price. $65 for a 6" cake. The cake itself was dry and the filling and icing was overly sweet. Did my 2 year old love it? Absolutely! I must say ordering was simple and they responded right away via email. The staff was helpful and the shop was nice and clean. I'm glad I did this for my daughter's birthday because everyone was impressed with the look of it, but I probably wouldn't do it again. Also, I requested 5 macarons and instead they put chocolate balls on. I wish they would have let me know this is what they were going to do. I had been talking about macarons with my daughter the week before and showing her pictures, so we were disappointed when we opened her "macaron cake" and there were none. When I placed the order they did not tell me they were going to do that. Not a big deal, but a little communication would have been appreciated.

Looking like a reject from cake wars

I brought in a picture of what I wanted and instead it looks like a complete disaster. the unicorn's horn which is made of fondant actually melted. it was packaged so poorly that the cake was caving in on itself by the time it arrived. Keep in mind this is May in NJ so not even that hot. additionally when I called to express this to the owner, she had the audacity to laugh at me. Which was infuriating. I said that I would like an exchange for something that actually looked like it was worth $125 or a refund she hung up on me. UPDATE: they actually worked to fix the cake however it is clear that my business isn't APPRECIATED. Her excuse was that we didn't drive home carefully enough with it. Yeah in a giant SUV with 4 kids... sure NEVER AGAIN.

My daughters birthday is February 14th so Valentine's Day. She makes my daughters cake for her every single year. This is the 4th year she has made her cake and she has outdone her self. They are amazing! Cakes look amazing, they are always fresh and delicious and I have never had 1 bad thing to say about this cafe!

This was the picture of my design and as you could see they've made it extraordinary

Beyond amazing! I am surprised how they've surpassed my expectation when it comes to the design, and accuracy of the smash cake I ordered for my son's 1st birthday! The owner was very friendly and accomodating and the price is very affordable! I am happy so I give them 5 stars. The best cake cafe in my area! I claim it!!

I had a terrible experience with Cake Artist Cafe. As the picture shows, the cake fell apart entirely. I contacted Ligia and she immediately blamed the driver who is my family member. While I can't know for sure what happened in transit, I trusted the person who picked up the cake and her responses were offensive and unhelpful when I merely wanted her advice on what could be done to salvage the cake. That aside, we hoped the taste would redeem the fiasco, however, it did not. I have pretty low expectations for custom cakes since they often are more for show than taste. This cake did not taste good.

The girls at cake artist cafe were very helpful with helping me think of designs for my cookies and cake pops for a girls day at the winery! All the desserts were a hit, not only do the cookies and cake pops look great but they taste great! I will definitely be back for my next event!

Needed chocolate covered strawberries that looked like brides and grooms for a bridal shower and had a hard time finding a place that did them. I posted in the local Facebook group and everyone recommended Cake Artist Cafe and I'm happy they did! I lived in town for years, but had never tried them out. The strawberries came out exactly like the picture I showed and the bride couldn't have been happier! Will definitely be calling them for future dessert needs.

    Absolute Perfection!

Not even sure where to start other than Ligia is truly an artist...did not disappoint. Had my daughter-in-law's shower on March 26, 2022, theme was classic Minnie/Mickey...I gave her a picture of something i saw and she nailed it...not only was the cake perfect outside...the inside was too!!! The cake was moist yet firm the filling on point...I can't thank her enough!!!!!

I still believe that should have been disclosed upon ordering. I want to start by saying that the staff was very kind, and both the ordering and pickup experiences were pleasant. Everyone I interacted with was nice, and I do want to give them credit for that. That said, the cake itself just was not very good, which was the biggest disappointment. We ordered a vanilla cake with Oreo filling for my son's birthday, and unfortunately it was dense, overly sweet, and overwhelming. I didn't see a single person finish their slice, and those who did take a bite to see if they wanted their own decided against it. We ended up cutting only about 10 slices, and more than half the cake was never even cut (and thrown away). For a cake that ended up costing $220 for 15-20 people, I expected something much better. I also did not realize until I saw my credit card statement the day of the party that the total was that high, and I was not told that the basic decoration/name would add another $45. I understand they are covering themselves by saying "may include fees" but for the basic cake If the cake had been expensive but delicious, I would have felt differently. But given the taste, the amount that went uneaten, and the lack of clarity around the final price, I would not order this cake again.

We were greeted as soon as we walked in... and then I quickly realized there were THREE people behind the counter. We were the only ones there for a few moments before another family walked in behind us. They had gone there before so generally knew what they wanted. Me? Not so much. Despite how many people were working at the time, there were no explanations or help... but they do respond to questions. They have a few small tables but it's a relatively small store. There are display cases filled with cookies, pastries, cupcakes, and cakes. Lots of character in there, but nothing is labeled and there are no prices other than the cookies (they're purchased by weight... 1 lb is 10 cookies). I sort of ran with it, but since I don't know the names of half the items, this will be a more general review. I grabbed a lobster tail and a sfogliatelle. They look similar at first glance... but when I asked, they are definitely NOT the same thing. In fact, she sounded a bit offended I asked. Hahaha. She mentioned something about the sfogliatelle being baked? It also comes in two sizes and I got the large. I later ate them and... I'm not too sure what the difference is because they're similar in shape. The lobster tail seems to be a flaky pastry that was cut in half and the cream piped in. The sfogliatelle was not cut but it was filled as well and I'm pretty sure they added orange zest to it... I liked that. The lobster tail didn't have any citrus that I remembered. I enjoyed them... but we ate them the next day. They weren't the crispiest then. Also got two large cannoli's filled with the regular cream. Plus a cream puff filled with "custard" (you can opt for ricotta instead). And an interesting beige white tart and a teeny fruit tart (I actually wanted the bigger fruit tart but they got the mini one instead... I didn't notice until we got home since everything is packed behind the counter). Cannolis were pretty good! Lots of cream and the shells were still crisp, but you could taste the oil since they're deep fried. I should have gotten the smaller size so the proportions would have been more balanced. The cream puff was a cream puff? Nice and light with the thick filling inside that wasn't too sweet. The fruit tart was good with a standard sweet tart shortbread crust. The mystery lattice tart thing was good as well! Not sweet and had very interesting flavors... fairly certain almonds were a part of it. Probably a version of frangipane? My daughter got a Spider-Man cupcake. Their cupcakes have a thin icing type topping instead of your typical piped frosting on top. They're also filled with a buttery frosting that isn't too sweet! I was pleasantly surprised. I was apprehensive when she was adamant on getting that cupcake because they're often overly sweet. I would like to note that a lot of their creams/custard filled goodies use the same filling. And it's not what I expected. Custard, it said. The filling was definitely more dense, not too sweet (a great thing), but also slightly grainy. I can't say they were eggy and they were far from the consistency of pudding. I'm thinking they might be ricotta based? The most loose "filling" we ate was probably the cannoli cream. Overall, I'm not sure exactly what I ate since they never really went the extra step or elaborated when I asked questions. Very to the point for a group of teenagers who were behind the counter. They were nice? But sort of uninterested. They seemed a little more enthusiastic about the other family. Oh yes. I also ordered a coffee for my husband... which wasn't rung up. I went back wondering where it was and it turns out it was forgotten about but we did eventually get it. He got a large and it is a HUGE cup. So... the goodies were pretty good. I was surprised in several ways - the fact I'm not too sure what I ordered and that they were perfectly sweet. But I found service lacking a bit. I will likely go back again if I'm in the area but I'd probably be just as clueless. We would have tried the goodies there and stayed longer but one of my kids has multiple food allergies and the place doesn't seem great for that (or for non-regulars) so we ate them later when our kid could have something as well. The pastries ended up being about $4-5 each and the cupcake was $4.50 - so the total adds up FAST. There is an automatic 3.75% service charge that was added on... not sure what that's about? The total was about $40 at the end, not including tip. My rating is a 3 because though I generally enjoyed the treats I got, I have mixed feelings due to the experience on this first visit as a whole. I'm hoping my future visits will be better.
