Open only Wednesday - Saturday during the day, Christine serves up mostly baked goods. She does also offer some soups as well as wurst and currywurst! Be advised that you generally have to order ahead for any kind of bread or brotchen. We sampled pretty much everything she had to offer in the late afternoon. Plum, cherry, and blueberry coffee cake as well as bienenstich (beesting cake). My mother, who grew up in the German ward of St. Louis and is from a German family, was overjoyed, as she was taken right back to her childhood. Perfectly crumbly, buttery crumb cakes with fresh fruits -- they were all delicious, but the plum was the best. I had a slice of bienenstich, which is a cake filled with vanilla custard/cream and topped with caramelized almonds. The cream was so mild and airy and paired perfectly with the crunchy, sweet almond topping. The owner and baker -- who I can only presume is Christine -- was there and she spoke to us about her life in Germany and how she has been running her bakery here for 20 years (she started at around age 40, by the way!) She had a talent for being available when we needed her and hanging back when we wanted "us" time. She was a joy and we loved talking with her. I'll absolutely order some bread in the future and make the drive out. It'll be great to see Christine again! If you're looking for a road trip out of Huntsville -- this is one not to miss.

The girl who took our order was incredibly friendly, and the service was quick from the moment we walked in. I ordered Dad's Egg Sandwich, and Mom got the Vegetable Frittata. The bacon on my sandwich was the standout--nice, thick, and perfectly cooked. My only complaint is that the menu mentioned garlic, but I honestly couldn't taste any. If you're going to promise garlic, I want to taste garlic! Mom really enjoyed her frittata, although I think she's getting a little tired of egg dishes lately. She especially loved the toast and whatever butter they served with it. It almost tasted like maple butter, and it was delicious. The fresh fruit was also excellent (I happily finished Mom's!). My only real complaint is the size of the restaurant. It's a cozy space, but I can see it getting crowded very quickly during the breakfast rush. Overall, everything was wonderful. Years later, while visiting that same friend, when driving around Alabama, we pass a tea place and when I ask to stop there my friend says "You know that tea place, they were at my wedding. They moved locations since!" We make a pit stop to at a cute little tea shop with various different types of loose tea and kitchen essentials. They have many types of tea but I got a jar of Piper Mint Blues and a new kitchen towel. While checking out we got to chat with the counter person who was super sweet and very knowledgeable about the tea I was purchasing. You can also order a beverage to go! What a great spot. Going to make this a regular during my visit.

It's on the end of the large, somewhat sparse shopping center just past Publix -- the same one that contains Lawler's on the end closest to the road. The inside is very pretty, well air-conditioned, quiet, and strikes me as a great place to work remotely, do some creative writing or drawing, or have a lowkey hangout with a friend, family member, or small group. My mom and I went on opening day after a walk at the nearby greenway. The menu has standard coffeeshop offerings and a decent selection of snacks and pastries, many of which have a slightly more upscale, almost Parisian feel to them. Reflecting the somewhat more upscale vibe, prices are perhaps a teeny bit high, but nothing you'd really raise a huge eyebrow at. They didn't have any specialty drinks the day we went, but there are a number of syrups to add to your drink and since visiting I've seen them advertise a few concoctions like a banana bread latte. Yum! I'll have to come back and try one. As it was, I got an iced latte with dark chocolate and salted caramel flavors. My mom got a bacon and egg puff pastry for us to snack on. Each item came out in a reasonable time frame. There's a small bar on one wall that has coffee add-ins and other things you might want like hot sauce packets, extra sugar, etc. It's a nice set-up! Both items were pretty good. I didn't get much salted caramel flavor in my drink but the chocolate was rich and chocolatey; I just wish it had been stirred together a bit more, as the top layer of the drink was very milky and the bottom was heavy on the chocolate. Some self-stirring helped but I think it ideally would've been mixed as it was first added to the drink. Still, the coffee itself was smooth and not at all bitter or acidic. A nice beverage! The puff pastry was tasty and very flaky. It DID come out super hot and had a certain sponginess that made me think it had hit the microwave before it was served. I still definitely think it was made in house based on the quality and flavor, but a little less time being reheated might've helped with the texture of the pastry and the scalding temp of the interior contents. That aside, it was loaded with bacon and overall quite enjoyable. I will certainly return in the future to try out more pastries and specialty drinks. Perhaps this could become a new writing hangout for me! :)
