The young person (woman) decided to help me, she was silent (didnt speak a courteous word.) I was asking about the Easter cupcakes, she simply demanded "which ones do you want". She then proceeded to put the selected cupcakes in a carry out vessel and crushed the lovely icing into the top of the clamshell. She never even slowed down to see what she did. She then went away for several minutes while I was trying to checkout without cupcakes. Once the first (helper???) actually brought the cupcakes the checkout person turned them on their side. Now let me tell you, I'm very picky about pistachio gelato. First impression was great because it wasn't bright neon green. It was a sandy green: perfect color. And it tasted AMAZING. Very smooth, great pistachio flavor. No notes. The green tea gelato was a little bit icy, but not enough to take away from the experience. My father tried a chocolate mousse cheesecake type of thing and the mousse was very light which I prefer because rich, decadent mousses are too much. I'm not a fan of cheesecake but it had a great, silky texture and didn't taste too cheesecake-y, if you know what I mean. Yesterday I had to make asKtop at the yarn store and couldn't think of a better way to treat myself than with Peggy Ann's, Unfortunately, most of what I got was disappointing. I did start with my favorite - the smiley face buttercream icing sugar cookie. Really, the bottom sugar cookie is just acting as a vehicle for the nearly 1" tall circle of buttercream icing (it may be frosting - I honestly don't know the difference and, really, I don't care, all I know is that I can eat their buttercream with a spoon.) It took 3 days to actually get to the sugar cookie on the bottom. Along with the cookie, I bought just a bunch of random baked goods. I bought my husband an iced brownie which he didn't finish because it was just way too sweet. I bought one of my childhood favorites - a cream horn. This is coming from the person who ate straight butter cream for three days - the cream was so sweet it just overwhelmed the delicate horn. I ate the pastry which was delicious only after I scraped out the cream. I bought a blueberry scone for breakfast - nothing at all special. And finally, I got my husband a banana nut muffin. He said "taste this" - I don't know what was wrong with it but it was awful and we tossed it. Peggy Ann Bakery is known for their petit fours. Both my husband and my son's FIL said "huh, I don't know" when asked if they knew what a petit four was. If you're younger than 50, you might not know either, but these tiny cakes are a favorite at Southern showers and teas. I've really never known anyone who just ate them because they liked them but they do make you want to go "pinkies out" when you see them displayed on the table. I was really excited about my visit to Peggy Ann Bakery but now it just makes me sad - I spent $16 yet we threw away almost half of what I bought.

Parking aside, it's a beautiful inside space, super clean and modern with lots of design details that pay homage to Middle Eastern culture. I met two friends visiting from out of town here and we had plenty of room to relax and didn't feel like we were hogging the space despite our long visit since there was always room for other guests to find a spot to sit. The menu is fairly large and they also offer a great deal of both savory and sweet pastries. The service was friendly and eager to help or answer questions. The cashier/barista was unable to answer some of our questions about the contents of some of the drinks due to her not being Yemeni, but she was quick to ask the owners who were available and happy to assist. I wanted to get their semi-viral pistachio latte, which looked gorgeous, but unfortunately they had run out of the pistachio syrup. I guess that happens when you go viral in Huntsville, hah. Oh well, a good reason to return soon. I was also wanting a pastry but for the most part their more Middle Eastern inspired goods had sold out and they were left with cheesecakes. Nothing wrong with that - they were all gorgeous slices - but again, I'll just have to come back soon to snag the goods. I wound up ordering a latte with dark chocolate. My pals got two different special Yemeni teas; I missed the names. One pal is severely lactose intolerant and asked for her drink to be made with oat milk instead of cow's milk and was informed it was no longer authentic that way, which...I mean, sure! She admired the commitment to authenticity, lol. Both pals enjoyed their drinks and remarked on the strength and depth of flavor in the tea. They were also wowed by the beauty of the space. We enjoyed almost two hours of uninterrupted time together and we felt welcome and right at home. My latte with dark chocolate was rich, complex, and pleasantly but not overwhelmingly sweet. Maybe a teeeeeeny bit heavy on the milk, but I'm nit-picking here mostly. Solid drink! Once they get the opening jitters down I have no doubt this place will be a gem. I'm super excited to return and try some of the products I couldn't get on my first try, and to enjoy the beautiful environment and friendly service once again!
