I noted how close it was to where I lived and that the hours worked out for me, so I thought I'd give it a go! The shop is a little hidden, but easy to find if you are looking for it along the plaza. It's small, cute, and beautifully decorated with a few seats outside welcoming visitors to stay, but it's mainly a place for pickup orders. The owner was very sweet and greeted me right away, giving me a loyalty punch card for cheesecakes (which I'll be using). I had bought my treats online the night before with a set pick up time (I highly recommend ordering this way. While I'm sure they do walk-ins, it's a guarantee you'll get what you want ordering online). My selection: Salted Caramel White Chocolate Macadamia Cookie: White chocolate macadamia is MY FAVORITE cookie, so this was a must try for me! While I'm more than happy with a plain white chocolate macadamia, I was very intrigued that this one was on another level with the salted caramel and white chocolate drizzle on top. I heated it for 45 seconds in the microwave and had this for breakfast. Wow! White Macadamia like I've never had before! The brown sugar base with the warm toasty taste of macadamia and sweet white chocolate is exactly what I want in this cookie, but the salty sweetness of caramel and added white chocolate drizzle really brings this over the top! The best white macadamia cookie I've ever had! Soft, chewy, and went great with my morning coffee! Strawberry Crunch Cupcake: The owner said this is a best-seller, and I can see why! The frosting is like strawberry velvet, and not too sweet at all like strawberry icing can be sometimes. The cake itself is more of a strawberry marble cake, and makes me think of strawberry shortcake. It's topped with streusel and muddled strawberries, then crowned with a fresh strawberry. A true strawberry lover's dream! Strawberry Cheesecake: I was super torn between getting this and the guava (which will be my next conquest). I noticed they also had red velvet cookie butter, which REALLY caught my eye, but I was in a mood for more simplicity, and strawberry cheesecake is a classic. This was given to me as the plain cheesecake with the separate strawberry compote to pour on top. Smart, to give you a good idea of what the cheesecake itself is like without the topping, and my boyfriend initially wanted his plain, but I digress. It looks and smells delicious, so I knew I was in for a treat! The cheesecake was incredibly creamy and fresh with a slight twang, a mark for authentic New York Style cheesecake and is as good as you can get to going to New York for a slice (disclaimer: never been to New York to really verify, but it's coming!). I could have eaten this plain, but I wanted the strawberry compote, so I poured it over the top, which gave me strawberries with each bite and a refreshing twist too! My favorite cupcake of theirs, the mocha cupcake, wasn't there, so I had to stop and REALLY look at the other choices in front of me, WHICH WERE A LOT and it was hard to really zero in on what I'd like. I noticed the poundcakes behind the case and immediately thought, maybe I'd try those instead of the cupcakes. They're a decent size, and I've never had them before, and the flavors intrigued me. I selected a coconut rum poundcake since it is coconut cake versus plain butter like the others and was feeling like coconut. I added the packaged cookies behind the case as well. I remember how great the cookies were, and though the selection wasn't what I remembered from the last shop, I still found what I'd like. I was not disappointed with either selection. The cookies were mildly sweet and I could really appreciate the almond flavoring in it, soft, buttery, and kinda crisp around the edges but dense in the middle like a very delicious shortbread. The sprinkles added a nice whimsical touch. And man, am I glad I went with something different. The poundcake was quite heavy and big, and for a moment, I was worried that I wouldn't be able to finish it (imagine that!), but NO. The heaviness is from the rum it's soaked in. The cake itself is very soft and buttery, with a delicate taste of rum and coconut. I enjoyed the coconut icing with flaked coconuts on top for an additional touch of sweetness. They do allow my Muffin there in her carriage, so I would definitely have to come back for a cupcake and latte (or of course, the poundcake).

I am not a fancy baker (I do uncomplicated cookies, pies, simple breads, etc.) and have never understood the macaron craze that's still going strong. In this class, I learned that they are quite challenging to make and are mouthwateringly delicious when correctly and precisely made--I think I just never tried ones so good as these! The fun in baking them is how challenging they are and imagining all the possible color and flavor combinations. It was a great experience for me and my girlfriends and Muriel was an excellent teacher. First, she made a batch of strawberry macarons and explained very clearly what she was doing every step of the way, including how to gauge if you've done it correctly. Next, we paired up and made a different flavor on our own (coffee and black olive in this case). Muriel helped us every step of the way and sent recipes and videos afterwards. I can't wait to try to make them again without Muriel's help! (Fingers crossed). Word to the wise: if you go on a weeknight, eat dinner first!
