This gun store is so awesome. When you walk in you go down and it's almost like going underground. It's got a really cool vibe. They definitely have something for everyone in here and the lady behind the counter, unfortunately I did not get her name, was very friendly, knowledgeable, helpful. She spent plenty of time with me answering all my questions, pulling out a map to look at the local area, etcetera even though there were other customers in the store. They offer a military discount for active duty. She says anything they don't have in the store that they can order and she tries to keep her prices real reasonable. Great. Wonderful. Excellent. Driven. Quaint. Personable.... there's probably 100 other words to describe Cal Customs, but I'll leave that to a thesaurus. I was referred here by a friend who has done business with them in the past and lives in the area. I was looking for a mil-spec, no frills 1911-A1 and was told they had a good selection. I called up and the young lady took time explaining to me over the phone what they had and I decided to go pay them a visit as soon as I had a break in work. While they're location is definitely far from my house, it's a 15 minute drive from where I work on base which was perfect. When I got there I was greeted by two nice ladies and a very adorable corgi. The lady showed me a new Springfield 1911, but also brought my attention to an almost new Springfield 1911 for considerably less on consignment. She gave me a very convenient layaway option which makes buying certain things easier and she had me out of there within about twenty minutes. I love the feel of the small town, family owned shop and their prices are on par with anywhere else locally. I would much rather spend my hard earned money at a local business than a large corporation. Plus, Cal Customs has been in business for almost 50 years!! Nothen but great experience is when I go over there and I love how it's tucked in a little corner and you go down the stairs into the shop and everybody there is super friendly yesterday I bought my second handgun from them a Glock 21 and kristy has helped me both times on my purchases. I remember going in here in high school to "Browse" the only gun shop in town. The place had been there for a long time at hat point. I decided I wanted a new Ruger 10/22 and called around to find the model I wanted. When she told me they had one and what the price was ($20 less than on the Ruger website) I told her to set it aside and I'm on my way. Living where i do it's not far but it's not close either especially when you factor in Friday afternoon traffic and the stupid Hwy 76. I arrive a while later and she retrieves the gun from the back room and it's exactly what i was looking for. SOLD! We do the required paperwork and it goes into "Gun Jail" for 10 days till I can come pick it up. Two weeks later I'm the proud owner of a beautiful stainless Ruger 10/22!!!!! Sadly 3 weeks later I have not run one round through it for two reasons: 1.) Stupid president has the country in a panic and I have a better chance of winning the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes than finding 22 shells. 2.) I have been too damn busy!! Let me start by the leadership and most of the clerks here are great. Only problem is that the last 3 times in a row there has been this younger guy who's talked down to me every visit. I love the ownership, but avoid working with this guy. He's the only younger person working there. Whether it was him looking at my AR after I've changed a trigger out and saying "what did you do to that gun" or "have you shopped for anything recently" in regards to me asking a question about ammo. I don't like working with him, love the place, the ownership, and all the helpful people there with the exception of this guy. Don't let him stop you from coming here though, I just suggest not working with him. read more

Dave saved my Colt 45 officers after a well known Murrieta gunsmith butchered it doing a "dependability service" wow what a mess that was. The release was terrible and the gun now would jam on a regular basis. I was so frustrated and thought the Murrieta guy had really ruined the weapon. I didn't know what to do but one of the old guys at Rainbow shooting range recommend Cal Custom guns. Dave tuned the trigger release and turned it into a smooth as butter in warm sun experience. Mind you he didn't put an aftermarket custom whammy in it. He just finessed an old standard he had in stock. Cal Customs Gun Shop is one of the best shops I have been in since becoming a new gun owner. Kristy is very friendly and delivers top notch customer service. Example, my wife and I drove all the way down from Wildomar and unfortunately one of the shops associates was exposed to Covid-19 so Kristy made all precautions to take care of her customers. On that day she was not allowing anyone in the store and was only handing out guns to people who had purchased a gun. However, when she asked what I was needing I said that I was looking to purchase a Beretta 92fs from her and she remembered me calling 2 days before and asking if they had one in stock. I had mentioned in that phone conversation that I would be coming up in a couple days from Wildomar and was very interested in making a purchase. So when we got there she remembered the phone conversation and instead of sending us back home she went out of her way to accommodate me, I was thankful for her generosity and her customer service. I was fortunate to live in the small town of Fallbrook for almost a year and after receiving some guns left to me after my father's passing, I needed a place to find new homes for these guns. I brought the dozen or so guns into Cal Customs and spoke with Dave and Dottie the owners and they assured me they could place them on consignment and get me fair prices. Half the guns sold within the first couple months and all at a very fair price. I then moved to Texas and finally Florida and the remaining guns were all sold with checks sent promptly to me. Great communication, very honest and the upmost integrity. It was sad to hear that Dave passed earlier this year but I'm glad to have met him and he had a definite passion and excellent knowledge of guns. Cals is unique in it's European underground style and nonchalant store front. Service was friendly and I like how everyone keeps it real discussing guns and or airguns. Lived in Fallbrook from 1987-2006, go back 2-3 times a year and stop in every time. Dave's selection rivals those big discount outdoor places, and he almost always has stuff you just can't find anywhere else when it comes to older handguns and rifles. As for service, Dave and his wife are getting older, he is still very knowledgeable, but his eye sight is getting a bit bad and his hands are getting shaky. He can be a little cranky, but understand he has to deal with a lot of younger riffraff coming in all the time.
