The couple who runs this office is extremely rude. Because of COVID precautions, they directed me to do the prints from a distance, then got annoyed when I wasn't doing it correctly. I said that maybe if I wasn't doing it right they could assist, to which the make owner snapped and said "Fine but you sit and wait. After a 5-10 min wIt, then put on 2 masks and a visor and returned to gruffly finish the job. Very unprofessional and impolite! read more

They were available right away and I was able to get the live scan done. There's a couple running the business and are behind plastic barriers at their front desk, while you do your fingerprint in the machine in their lobby. I had to redo my print on several fingers because it was "too low," "too high," "pressing too hard," etc., which got a bit irritating, but got the deed done, which is what I came for. I had to go in for a live scan and the process went by pretty quickly! They're located in an office in a bigger building, but pretty easy to find (just enter and use the elevators to go up to the third floor- if you need help, the security monitor in the lobby can point you in the right direction!) Currently with COVID, they only allow one person in at a time. I went on a Friday afternoon without an appointment, but didn't have to wait long- only one person was ahead of me! The office seems to be run by a couple, and the man who helped me made sure to wipe down the tables/counters between each customer. It was a pretty straightforward and quick procedure, and the price for live scan fingerprinting came out to be $50. read more

I came to Cal Live Scan after being referred here by the Berkeley Police Department for employer-required ink fingerprinting. I had called ahead around 10am to ask whether I needed an appointment, and the lady told me that I could walk in whenever - which was fantastic! Once I got there around 1:30pm, I had absolutely no idea what to do at first, but the couple was very nice and walked me through each step of the process. After completing my FBI fingerprinting application packet, the man who helped me do my fingerprints packaged my fingerprints up very nicely and told me about dropping off my entire FedEx prepaid packet in a downstairs location so that I wouldn't need to make another separate stop later. I could tell he was extremely experienced and professional, and service from both of the two people who run Cal Live Scan was fast and efficient - after all, they told me they'd been doing this for 16 years! The price for two fingerprinting cards to be completed cost $55 in total, but will be reimbursed by my company. This office is located on the third floor of a very sleek building, and the office itself is cozy but very professional. There definitely is a bit of a distance from Cal Live Scan to the UC Berkeley campus, but I would still highly recommend it to all Cal students who need ink fingerprinting for their summer internships or just people who need it in general! I'll keep this place in mind should I need fingerprinting again. read more

This place is located on the third floor and it's ran by two really sweet people. Service is very fast and I was in and out in five minutes. They are really helpful and also very nice! Help for folks with fading fingerprints. I can't say enough great things about this business. I have very faint fingerprints that had been rejected by the FBI for an Identity History Summary. Although Mr Tan wasn't sure he could capture fingerprints, he and his wife worked with me for over an hour until we got a useable set. They are really the best!! read more

Initially I was really happy to find Cal Live Scan to handle my State Bar of California fingerprinting requirement. It was open on Saturday. Unfortunately, the fingerprints taken by Cal Live Scan failed. I had not paid attention to the fees for refingerprinting that were posted and sitting behind a plant. At the time that I was fingerprinted, I could not imagine why I would need to be refingerprinted. I was informed by the State Bar that the printing was insufficient. When I returned to Cal Live Scan, I was told that it will "only cost" me $27 to refingerprinted. I had already paid $79 for the insufficient prints. However, more than 60 days had passed since I was charged $79. I was not going to pay an additional $27. You should look elsewhere for your Live Scan needs! Now I must also. read more

No frills, not fancy, no exceptional customer service, not a lot of talk even. The place might smell like food bc they're eating lunch in the back, the furniture isn't nice and new. Just get in, pay, get what you need, get out. Came for a live scan at 1pm, metered parking right in front of the building, lobby security was nice, walked in on the worker having lunch, he stopped and came out to help me, got the form I needed to fill out, paid $74 by credit card, did my fingerprints, got form stamped and my license back, then walked out. 5-10min. I have crooked fingers and deal with tremors, so fingerprinting can be tough for me sometimes. They don't always give clear instructions for what to do and will get frustrated about it, but they're also very willing to sort things out with you. Plus, you don't go to live scan places for the customer service, so it's not really relevant. They're efficient and get the job done properly, and they clearly know what they're doing. read more

A few weeks ago, my company had an orientation where we asked volunteers to live scan. We had about 10 people and had scheduled for a mobile live scan at our location. He confirmed and reconfirmed that he will be there. On the day of, my director called to confirm his arrival but no response. She then proceeded to email and his response was he was sick. We thought, well, life happens but if you run a business, you'll have a backup person. So we call to ask. He picked that phone call and she introduced herself. Then he pretended to cough. She asked plainly that it is because we asked for the mobile fee to waived that he refused to come and left us stranded. He did not respond. What kind of professional, are you? Are you running a business where you agree to one thing and just cancel whenever you feel like it? Grow up. This review for all the businesses out there that want to use this guy. He's unprofessional, rude, and most of all, unreliable. He deserves a - 5 star. read more

Feeling like I had the wrong place, I stumbled onto a huge multi-floor, upscale building. The place was empty. Upon entering I see a tiny woman waving to me in a brightly colored t-shirt and said, "HelloooOOoOoo (with uppercase Os as changes in pitch)." She had the biggest smile and I felt like she was waving to me as if I was her friend. I waved back and matched her pitch changes, "HelloooOoOOo!" I couldn't help myself but match her. Up to the third floor she somehow disappeared and reappeared behind the front desk of a cozy 3 roomed office. Although she disappeared, her smile was still there -_-'. I smiled back. From there I felt like she and I were old friends. We greeted each other and within seconds.. yes, I said seconds. She knew where I had grown up and why I was in Berkeley. Indeed, after that information, instantaneously we have become friends. I can't say the same for the man because he was more quiet and just took over my hands. With gentle handling and a stoic face, I found the possession of my hands as soothing. At last, I don't have to make any decisions or think. My hands were in his hands. When I left, I walked out feeling like a huge and tedious task became an accomplishment that had long been overdue. In and out in under 10 minutes, this live scan place is a place where you'll leave with a smile. If I ever need a live scan, I will be back to this mom-and-pop office. They were A+ with customer service... until I had a problem. My agency required that I re-do the fingerprints, because I had gotten them done electronically, and this was the wrong format. I called to ask the office if I could get "credit" for the re-fingerprinting (the electronic version cost me $100, the new one was going to be $50), and they said, "oh no, it's a fixed cost". And then they proceeded to offer me a discount when I was persistent in asking for credit... $10 off. What was that about a fixed cost, and why can't you give me credit? Oh, and did I mention that it was their idea to do the electronic fingerprinting? read more

I went in today to get my fingerprinting done and had a horrible experience. The old asian man working the front desk was really rude, mean, and impatient with me. He kept saying I was doing it wrong and looked really annoyed while helping me. He was also being really extra with covid precautions and kind of looked like he was disgusted of me or something because he kept telling me to move further away from him even though I was not close to him and was wearing a face mask. He was telling me to come back later and got really fed up with me until I told him that he didn't have to be so rude and his wife came in to help me finish my fingerprinting. She apologized for his behavior, but she didn't seem to know how to manage the system and she tried asking her husband for help but he didn't want to help. I hope my fingerprinting was done right because I do not want to go back here. Really unpleasant experience and ruined my morning. read more

I had to fly in from out-of-state to get my fingerprinting done. Many sites boasted that they were open on Saturdays on the Live Scan website, but when I called they weren't actually open. Cal Live Scan was open, just as they said they would be (always a good idea to call ahead to confirm)! I was the only one there, so the process was under 5 minutes. Price for my printing and background checks were $76, which was the same price at other places for the license I was getting (price of rolling, DOJ, and FBI). Convenient location, plenty of parking around, and friendly couple running the business. If I need to get scans done again, I'll be sure to go here! read more

I'm a little weirded out that I'm writing a review for a LiveScan place, since the whole process of getting documented and fingerprinted by big brother creeps me out. I had to do it to get my Alameda County EMT cert, and this place was super close to my house. The couple who run it were super sweet, I didn't need to make an appointment, just handed them the paperwork and was in and out in about ten minutes. Also, the building they are in is deceptively bland from the outside, but on the inside is actually pretty pleasant, architecturally with a giant skylight through the center. Nothing to do with the business really, but I think if more government-type-services were in less-government-type buildings everyone would be a lot less cranky. read more

Went here for DOJ/FBI check. They tried to charge me twice for the live scan (one CA DOJ and another FBI) and I find out later other livescan places one is enough to send both. Then when I said I'll just take a physical printed card for FBI instead and mail it myself, they said I needed two cards for an additional $50. (You only need one) and pressed me to do the "expedited service" for over $100. So I ended up doing just the DOJ for $57. If the fee is $25 to DOJ and the published livescan fee for these guys on the DOJ website is $25, where is the extra $7 is coming from? I dont know. They were so rude and rushed I just paid it and left. Save the aggravation and go to PO Pack on Shattuck down the street. (Just make sure to bring the DOJ form and tell them you want both DOJ and FBI). read more
