Besides one negative incident, this place is a total gem. We came here last month (January) on a Thursday some time after 12:30pm. This was a bit tricky for us to find though. It's located off of Orpheus Avenue, which runs along the Southbound 5fwy. We entered Orpheus from Leucadia Boulevard, drove down and missed it, made a U-turn and missed, turned around again and finally turned into the correct street, lol. Orpheus is kind of a hilly curvy narrow street, so it was a little hard see the sign. Also, the street, or more like pathway that leads up to the farm is only big enough for one car, so as we drove up the pathway, there was a car coming down to leave the farm, so they had to wait until we turned into the farm parking lot to drive out. Once we entered the doors, it was like an orchid oasis. So many beautiful orchids everywhere. There were a variety of orchids from small to big, gorgeous arrangements, hanging planters, and even ones that smelled like chocolate! The nursery was a perfect temperature and humidity for them, very clean and neat, and all super healthy. I don't know how or why, but to me, they all looked really happy. If I remember correctly, they ranged from $19.95 and up, the $19.95 ones being the common white and violet ones sold at Trader Joe's, for example. I was looking at 2 different ones, priced at $34.95ea, but couldn't decide. I asked one of the women behind the counter which one was rarer to see in the market, in hopes of buying the one that is less common than the other, if that makes sense. She misunderstood my question and went on to say that none of the orchids in the nursery are wild and that all of them are cross-bred to make hybrids. She was snarky and condescending so all of us, including hubs and kiddo, were caught off guard. Um, okay, I'll just decide myself, thanks. While we were there, the other woman, the owner, I think, came over and asked us if we needed help. I told her it's hard to make orchids bloom again and she kindly explained how to make them bloom over and over again. She even led us into the attached nursery where there was a small selection of clearance orchids. The rest of the pots there belonged to other people who keep their orchids there until they bloom. They essentially have an orchid "hotel" service, which I thought was pretty neat.

It's heavenly and Susan is so knowledgeable! A beautiful place and the concept of orchid hotel is fascinating! The showroom is well organized and so many beautiful blooms!

My mother had the green thumb and a beautiful orchid garden. When I was in Encinitas, I found this place on "things to do", so I had to check it out. It definitely did not disappoint. If you are looking to buy or use the Orchid Hotel or just see all the beautiful plants then its worth the trip. The place is hard to find and easy to pass the driveway up. It is small and doesn't take much time to go through the store displays but worth it if you are in Encinitas.

Our first visit to Cal Pacific Orchid Farm on 7/3/2023 will not be our last! It was well worth the 90-minute drive from Pomona. We had a great time speaking with, and being toured through the "hotel" and greenhouses, by next generation owner Patrick (we also met his very cute girlfriend!). Patrick knows his stuff about care and propagation -- as well as a number of his customers by name -- and shared his plans for expansion with the new greenhouses he has just ordered. We can't wait for the "remodel" to be completed in a few months. Without a doubt, you will find some of the most beautiful and unusual orchids and arrangements here. We were amazed at the variety of plants in bloom in the showroom -- which is much larger than the "500 square feet" several other reviewers have complained about. They have phaelenopsis, cattleya, cimbidium, zygo, and more to choose from in an amazing pallete of colors. And you'll find a couple of dozen on the half-price shelf in the back of the shop. Everything here is healthy! If you need a few dozen identical orchids for a wedding reception or party, this is the place to come and get them. They service hotels and casinos. And the orchid "hotel" is a most unusual side to the business . . . for $2 per month per plant (minimum of five plants), they will keep your orchids going strong until the next bloom if you want, or if you need to be away from home for an extendedd period of time. There were several hundred "guests" on hand. The entrance is a bit hidden with trees that line both sides of the one-lane driveway, but if you're paying attention, you'll spot the "1122" on the black mail box at the end of the driveway just before you see their sign.

Has anyone tried their room and board yet? I have 5 orchids that are not growing any spikes. :(

Yes. My friend has dozens of orchids there. I kill them eventually trying to bring them back around. For $2 a month they will bring them back to incredible vitality. The are absolute experts. Plus they are incredibly nice.

This is located off of Piraeus Street that runs along the Northbound 5fwy. We entered Piraeus from Leucadia Boulevard. The commercial entrance came up first, then the regular customer entrance, thanks to their clear signs. It was mid-afternoon on a Thursday in January, so maybe that's why the nursery lot was kind of empty the further we went in. At the front area though, there were poinsettia trees still in bloom. I didn't even know that they can grow into trees (they don't last very long after the holidays in my care, lol), so I was actually fascinated to see them so big. They also had a fenced area with 2 small goats, possibly pygmy goats...so cute and friendly. Considering the cold weather, they had a good selection of healthy cacti, potted flowers and plants at reasonable prices (i.e., 4" pot of succulent $5.99, 6pk annuals/perennials $4.99). The bigger shrubs like hydrangea and hebe coed were more expensive ($26.99 and $28.99, respectively), but beautifully kept. We had no plans to garden any time soon so didn't plan on buying anything, but ended up getting some plant accessories, including a car-shaped ceramic planter that kiddo really liked, lol. Service was okay. We were the only ones there and took our time browsing, but no one asked if we needed help. The woman at the cash register wasn't rude, but not particularly friendly either.

I have completely fallen in love with this gem of a nursery in Encinitas. I have been searching for…read morerare plants all over North County and have found that this has the best selection and best value for rare houe plants. This whole rack of plants came from Cordova, and not a single one can be found at any other nursery for these affordable prices (think 25%-50% of the price you'd find online). I have found several White Princess and Pink Princess Philodendron that have made exquisite gifts for the holidays. The most amazing Philodendron I found was the Jose Bueno, its leaves are easily at least 18" and I snagged it for 1/3 the online price! I have also found Swiss Cheese Monstera, as well as Thai Constellation and Albo varieties. My other amazing find has been their String of Turtles and String of Hearts, which are very rare as compared to the more typical string of pearls. The owner shared with me that he's been in business for over 38 years! He is super knowledgeable and has a vast inventory (hence the competitive pricing). The plants are all super healthy, and I've not had a single pest interloper from their collection. I have never left this nursery without finding what I was looking for. So if you're looking for presents this season (prepare to wow all of your friends and family while not breaking the bank) or want to expand on your rare house plant collection, this is your spot. Go before I buy all their plants.

However you have to be home, they have to be in your area ect so when it was taking a bit to get some from our normal suppliers we just decided to buy some. We figured it must be better quality as well since it was a only a few miles from us and we were paying a decent price. Once it got here we did our usual thing and spread it everywhere we have open space, around our planter boxes, ect. Now that we have had it for a few months though we are feeling duped. This is the opposite of what multch is supposed to do. There are weeds everywhere in our yard. No they cannot be from before because we have always had clover here and there and hand pull knowing that some will come back. These are weeds of all types that we have never had (mallow, dandelion ect). There are also mushrooms and even nasturtium growing. I am so disappointed as now it will be pretty much impossible to get rid of all these without chemicals. So don't buy mulch here. Just get it fresh out of the tree trimmers truck.
