While Cal-West did resolve our roof issue and helped us obtain a two-year certification so we could close escrow, the billing process was extremely frustrating. It took them over five weeks to deposit the check we wrote. We chose not to pay by debit or credit card due to their 3% processing fee. My husband and I both called multiple times and were told on each occasion that the check would be deposited within a couple of days, yet it still took over a week after those assurances. During this time, I had to closely monitor our checking account to ensure the check wouldn't bounce--this was during the Christmas season, when money is constantly moving in and out of the account. To be safe, I eventually transferred the funds into savings so they wouldn't accidentally be spent and planned to transfer them back once the check showed as pending. Unfortunately, after waiting seven weeks, and after we had already closed escrow, received our certification, and moved into our new home, we were suddenly notified that the funds were insufficient. As a result, we now have to restart the entire payment process. This was a very expensive repair--over $3,000--and the delay in depositing a check for that long is unacceptable. If you plan to use this company, I strongly recommend paying in cash or another guaranteed form of payment. Waiting over a month to deposit a check is incredibly inconvenient for customers. A roof vent was adjusted by the Cal-West Roofing workers during agreed repairs that accidently became disconnected from the water heater in the garage. Unfortunately, were out of town at the time so we kindly requested Cal West Roofing to come back to readjust the water heater vent pipe to its original position. The owner argued with me, was rude and offensive. My husband attempted to discuss the issue with him and the owner hung up on him! We paid him a lot of money for simple roof repairs required by our homeowners insurance, but also had to pay an additional cost to hire someone else to come help fix the problem caused Cal West Roofing. Simple mistake by the workers that would have been a simple fix by the workers.... instead the owner caused it to become a big deal and a whole lot of unnecessary grief. read more

Horrible experience with cal west. Al shows up to give bids without a ladder, doesn't get on roofs, and can give a ridiculous high bid without any physical inspection. They are customer and service oriented (they're in high demand, but they made sure they prioritized all the house repairs in the neighborhood based on how badly they needed help, before an upcoming storm, and got to everyone before it rained!) During the purchase of a home, Cal-West performed a roof inspection. Their inspector told us that the roof needed to be sealed in a few places and they would provide a 2-year certification of the roof. We purchased the home, and when I called to schedule the work on the roof the owner of the company informed me that we needed a whole new roof, not just the $1600 of work that his inspector quoted us. I told him that the inspector told us that the roof just needed to be sealed and it would be fine, and he argued with me saying that my roof was bad and that "no one would have told me otherwise". We would not have bought this house knowing that the roof was bad and could not just simply be repaired. Furthermore, had we known the whole roof needed to be replaced we would have asked for the seller of the home to either pay for the roof or at least split the cost. Very poor business practice, in my opinion as well as, the owner of the company talked at me like I was stupid and didn't know what I was talking about. I chose not to have them work on my roof, and instead got a 2nd roof inspection done by Layton Roofing (who is very professional and courteous). They informed me that the roof in fact does need to be replaced. So now I'm stuck with a bad roof, and no money left after the purchase of the home to replace the roof. Layton Roofing did some work to try and seal the bad spots, but with the rain we have noticed some staining happening in our master bedroom. I'm hoping we can afford to get it fixed before more damage is done. I do not recommend Cal-West. Very untrustworthy in my opinion. My cousin also had some work done by Cal-West a few years back and they also had a bad experience. I only found this out after our issues with them, as I asked what roofer they used because I was looking for a second opinion. read more

The worst service I have ever experienced with any company in my life. Al ford the owner was flat out rood. Mr ford didn't show up on two appointments we had set up to look at my roof leak. Finally when his lead guy showed up and told me first step is to clean under the tile around the chimney where the leak was coming from, and that they will set up an appointment to come back for the service. Few day later after no respond from them I called back spoke to Al ford and asked when they will be coming back. After on going about him explaining what the problem may be , I told him I understand there is more than one cause to the problem. I simply asked can we initiate the first step and get it going as far as cleaning under the tile as per his lead man. I spoke with Al and even got a bid before I went on vacation. He seemed confident that he and his men would get the job done during the week (even mentioned he had 18 men). I signed the contract. I called numerous times while on vacation and I get nothing. I come home and you can tell dry rot on the front was not repaired... so I figured roof was not touched. Al finally picks up and he says he didn't make it out last week. I had another company call me to come and I denied them saying I was with Cal West!!!! I should have kept the other company! Al apologized over and over and also was "willing" to give me $50 but when I ask to put the job and timeline in writing (because I had trusted him for the week before, and he now broke that trust), he refuses and says I should go with someone else. Jerry who initially came by was thorough, professional and even took the time to explain to me how to properly maintain my tile roof. This is a late review and decided to do it as a warning to homeowners. Cal-West did my roofing 2 years ago. I have over 5000 sq foot house. Adviser told me after inspecting that all the valleys needs to be clean, broken tiles, missing will be replaced. One tile end cap was missing which I pointed out. The work estimated time was 2 to 3 days according to the work to be done. He took pictures of the roof so I could see it. However, workers came and dud in half a day. I was expecting that the job would take at least 2 days with the work to be done removing and cleaning all valleys and again this is 5000 sq foot house. However, I only got one picture of the valley a before and after picture of the valley that was cleaned. They forgot the end cap and eventually replaced with a regular tile which does not look good. I had to call and asked to clean one side of the gutter as it was full of dirt. Now my roof is leaking on one side of the house evidence by water marks. I have to call different roofer this time and hope a honest reliable person or company. read more

Al was horrible to communicate with and I couldn't get him to even give me a bid. When he did actually come by, he never even called me so I could meet him and tell him what we had in mind. He simply threw a few brochures on my front step. We finally did have a phone conversation and he told me he would email me a bid. After a week and no follow up I attempted to call / text him and inquire on the status. No reply.....nothing. I finally just gave up. What's the deal? Al met with us and gave us a rough start date, dependent on weather conditions. His crew was able to begin work just 3 days after the rough date. They showed up on time and finished our new roof in 3 days plus an hour and a half on their first visit. The reason for the short day was the temps were up around triple digits. They were very easy to deal with and they did a good job on the new roof as well as clean up. My only complaint is that they used my old pool cover to help cover my pool to keep major debris from falling into the pool. My cover was filthy and all the dirt on it went right into the pool. Had they asked if they could've used my cover, I could have explained that it was too dirty. But as far as the work and professionalism from the crew, I was very pleased and more than satisfied.
