Great customer service & wonderful food. I will be back. The pineapple ginger juice was also AMAZING!

This place is definitely the real deal. A street vendor stood outside, they had a marketplace inside with some distinctive island brands of food items, and the menu and the accents were likewise real. Some Jamaican places do vegetarian and some do not; this one does. They did not have any of the tofu I wanted but instead offered me some dried soy-based chunks, which were cooked fresh in a curry sauce which I elected to get spicy. A full platter included rice and beans, sauteed cabbage, and a few plantains. It was delicious. The decor includes a map of Caribbean islands and some other atmosphere. It is a low rent kind of space overall, and the price was a bit high for that, but I could not accuse them of skimping on portion size. They had a variety of house beverage options, and while I was already overloaded on beverages I would be happy to try something more from them in the future.

Remembered too late to take a pic of stewed chicken with rice & peas, steamed veggies + side of plantains. Side of fried okra

Today was our second visit- the first time we drove over an hour from home to try it. This time we were passing through on the way home from NC and jumped off I-20 onto 26 to get here easily. Once we ordered I kept telling myself to take a picture before diving into the plate. When it came out piping hot and smelling all good- the thought of taking pictures left my brain. Last month on our first visit, hubby ordered the stewed red snapper and it was on point with rich flavor in the gravy. I had the stewed chicken and it was the same flavorful aromatic gravy. Both were delicious and complete with a large scoop of rice with peas and steamed veggies which are cabbage with corn, peas, carrots plus a side of plantains. You can also opt for white rice. We added an order of fried okra. Honestly, as a self-proclaimed fried okra snob- it' was the best I've ever tasted. The gentlemen knew we were first timers and was very welcoming. He kindly offered a small sample of the yams when I wanted to try them but didn't have any more room in my belly to eat a full side. The yams were sheer perfection and a must try when you come through. On our visit today, hubby tried the stewed king fish since they were out of red snapper. It was just as exceptional as the red snapper. He gave me a small bite to try because apparently it was too good to share! It was incredible and cooked perfectly. Curry chicken was my choice this go around. Love how they achieve authentic flavor without torching the tastebuds! I'm a total wimp in the heat department. Their chicken is 'fall off the bone' and 'slap your momma' good! The fried okra was identical to our visit last month- still the best in my opinion. The staff are friendly and kind. They remembered us today and that meant a lot. We eat in because we aren't local. Seems they do a lot of take out business, however there are three tables inside for folks like us. All in all- as a couple that travel and look for memorable eats- this gem hit the mark tied for #1 ranking in our ranking for the best Caribbean.

I have always wanted to try this place, whenever I shopped at the Roses store next door. Once we went and they said the wait would be 35 mins, so we passed. Today, she said everything was ready on their bar so we ordered . We got jerk and stew chicken which came with rice and peas , cabbage and plantains Excellent food, large portions, friendly staff! Also the pineapple ginger drink is good! Definitely going back back!

Oh how I've missed real authentic Jamaican food! And guess what the wait is over because Calabash Caribbean Grill is within a 30 minute drive and they have all the signature foods. From jerked chicken to oxtails , goat, Ackee and salt fish and more I cannot wait to try more. I had to start off with the oxtail plate and let me tell you- I had to do a little dance in my seat. Fall of the bone tender with the perfect flavor to match and the rice and plantains and cabbage all hit the spot as well. Hubby got a two meat plate with the oxtail and goat and he too was blown away. And let me not forget the drinks! We got the sorrel and pineapple ginger and that hit of ginger with every sip was just what we needed. Service was friendly and they had a few tables inside so we were able to enjoy our food hot and ready. 5/5 will def be back many times.

Bloody hell... This is hands down the BEST Jamaican food my wife and I have ever had and we've had a lot. Great food, they make their own healthy drinks and the service is incredible. A must if you are ever in Columbia. Right off the Interstate 26 also. 5 Stars and 3 Thumbs Up from us

    Oxtails

I come here and keep trying to give them chance after chance because I love there oxtails, one time I had an hair in my food now they aren't consistent with the portion! To spend 55 dollars for two oxtails meals not is that why you didn't give it and only get 4 oxtail usually I get 4 with some smaller ones, it's not worth the money to not be consistent with what they give! Potions are getting smaller every visit! Asked for two oxtails dinners no cabbage add Mac and cheese didn't get Mac and cheese I asked the girl why I didn't get any Mac she said it was extra so I told her I'll pay the difference and then to say they don't have anymore Mac instead of saying it from the beginning!

I got a large oaxtail dinner Plantains and cabbage

There is no comparison!!!! When I tell you that this spot serves THE BEST Jamaican food I've EVER tasted, trust me...it is! I've been to Jamaican restaurants in New Orleans, Houston, Austin, Brooklyn, Long Island and a few more. None of the restaurants I have visited can come close to the quality and taste of the food at Calabash Caribbean Grill. I traveled from Houston to South Carolina to witness my brilliant niece graduate from the Army Military School. After meeting up with my family, we searched for a restaurant and after reading reviews, we opted for this restaurant. I ordered the small two meat plate (jerk chicken and oxtails) with yams instead of cabbage. Maaaaaaannnnn let me tell you that EVERY bite I took was so satisfying to my palate. The oxtails in brown sauce was so delectable and the meat was nearly falling off the bone. The chicken was cooked and seasoned perfectly AND THE RICE oooooooohhh I'm salivating just thinking about it, lol. Yes, all of the above was already worth 5-stars to me. However, when I throw in the BEST customer service, excellent price point, and cleanliness of the inner and exterior building, I wish I could score them a 10!!! I ordered a small plate, got full, and I had so much food left over for dinner. AND the juices are AMAZING!!!! I purchased the ginger pineapple juice made in-house and I instantly fell in love, lol. It was so good that I purchased another one and a lemonade to take back to my hotel room along with a couple of other Caribbean items. Hey! If you're ever in the Columbus, South Carolina area, please stop by this authentic Jamaican food restaurant, you won't regret it. Shout out to the woman that truly made our outing epic...thank you RENEE!!!!

I've been desiring to eat here for awhile and always wondered where the signs on the road for this place was, and never putting two and two together that this was the place. My food was BOMB! Hands down my favorite Jamaican spot in the city now. They have REAL Jamaican food. Goat, Ackee, Saltfish, Coco Bread, and they even have a mini grocery store kind of feel where they sell supplies so you can bring Jamaica to your kitchen. They even have Ting! I ordered the small oxtails + curry chicken meal, with rices and peas, and macaroni and cheese as extra sides. Cabbage and plantains come with every meal unless you want to substitute for an up-charge. Since I was splurging on my "diet" and budget, I decided to order the macaroni and rice and peas separately. When I tell you the food was AMAZING! It was just that! I typically don't like Jamaican style oxtails but those were slammin as my mother would say lol That and the curry chicken were so flavorful and fall off the bone tender. My cabbage, rice and peas, and plantains were perfect pairs to the meal, and definitely my macaroni. I wanted to keep eating but I couldn't anymore. All that food lasted for two days and that was the small plate! All for $24.09 WITH taxes might I add! The customer service was good; everyone was friendly and helpful. The ONLY problem I had was me driving all the way back to the restaurant to get my side of macaroni because it wasn't in the bag. Yep, it was that serious. Yes, go ahead and give this place a go because it's worth it. Can't wait to go back!

It's a small establishment but those tend to be the best. It's a no frills aesthetic both inside and out. Very unassuming but when I tell you this is some of the best Jamaican food I've had in a LONG time I'm not lying. The service was amazing and the team is support friendly. The brown stew chicken was not only packed with flavor but it was fall off the bone tender. I have never waited as long as they take to put these meals together. They did come out with an order but was completely wrong. My impression of the establishment is a small cafe with a few Jamaican flags, wording, and music camouflaged up to attract the tourists. There are no Jamaicans taking order, the menu is always on the TV. There is an attached side to cafe with 1 pool table, another bar, and stage. Upon finally receiving our orders albeit after an hour wait the food was presented well but no damn way wait for amount served. We have come to expect that no one here in America can give it the jerk taste and this was no different. Yes it is fall off bone but only jerk seasoning not the taste cooked in. It is serviceable as far as American standards. The curry chicken was way salty and the side of rice peas was very small as compared to me I got very large portion rice. The food was okay but as long as we waited I was ready to get refund and leave. If you want horrible service come here but I will not again.

You park and get out order at the window and go back to the window when your food is ready. My husband has been sent in and I thought this would be a good treat for Good Friday to have some food that reminds him a bit of his home. We ordered curry goat and oxtails with rice and peas mac & cheese and plantains. I ordered rice with mac & cheese, plantains and okra. I did enjoy the okra, it was cooked really well. It also tasted pretty good. The mac & cheese was good, I wish for a slight more bite with the cheese so on a scale of five I'd give it a four out of five. The portion size was OK for me, but not for my husband who is 64 and 260 pounds. He felt the goat was pretty good, but the oxtail not so much. He liked the rice and peas, but wish there were more peas. We could count the peas in his rice and in my rice and still have fingers left. What we're used to is a good ratio, rice and peas. I had food from here before and really enjoyed it. We also received the pineapple and ginger juice and the sorrel and we love them both. Those were made really well.

The jerk chicken appeared to be overcooked or old. The plate came with 3 sides. So I chose plantains, cabbage, and green beans. The plantains were the worse I've had, the cabbage was okay and the green beans were flavorless. I would give this entire meal 4/10. The large oxtail plate was basic. It also came with 3 sides; macaroni, white rice, and cabbage. Definitely the least enjoyable oxtails we've tried in the area. The macaroni needed salt and the oxtails were tough.
