i have been working with dr. whitenack for over 7 years. i'm in my 60's, married 40+ years, raised 2 children and have an mba with a 4.0 gpa. i've worked in finance my entire career and been around the block a few times in my life. i find dr. caleb whitenack the best psychiatrist i have ever worked with. my son began seeing a psychiatrist in 2nd grade, diagnosed with ocd that was a huge alteration to daily life, even challenging today in his 30s. the physician was very good with degrees from duke and yale. this was my first time working with a psychiatric. since this time, i have worked with numerous psychiatrists for my son, my daughter with add and my own personal challenges. what i find outstanding of dr. whitenack, in addition to his clear expertise in the field, is his ability to actively listen, clearly connect with his patients, articulate clearly, be professional and is blessed with great intuitiion. this by itself makes an amazing psychiatrist. although, he additionally goes out of his way to seek and quickly provide the most cost effective ways for patients to acquire and afford their medications. even knowing local discounts for specific meds and rx cards that work best. this is critical to many patients. i personally know individuals who have stopped taking medications because of cost, which has been detrimental to their health. in summary, he is an expert, has the full package of personal skills to successfully connect with his patients and be knowledge of medication avenues for patients to successfully acquire them. everything that gives his patients every possible opportunity for success. amazing caring expert!! cynthia w. read more

One of the best doctors I've ever seen. He's smart, and in my opinion looks at you without bias. This is so hard for doctors as they get into thier, "oh I've seen this before" but not this doctor. He had a sence of humility whereby he needed to listen and learn before drawing any conclusions. He correctly diagnosed me after at least a dozen misdiagnosis and then put me on medication where he told me the good bad and the ugly about it before letting me choose if I wanted to try it. Absolutely great! Dr. Whitenack was the first of three physicians who considered me as a whole, rather than just my symptoms. He took time to familiarize himself with my daily habits and family history and used both to construct a treatment plan. I'm excited to see if what he prescribed works, but if it doesn't, I wouldn't feel uncomfortable telling him. I'm sure he would do his best to find what works the best for me. At a time when doing something as simple as making an appointment was extraordinarily difficult, this was very easy. The person who answered the phone when I called was kind, and I was able to get an appointment fairly quickly which was a great relief. When I went to the office, I found the receptionist to be very kind also. No pressure, like she understood it wasn't easy to take that first step just to get myself there. Dr. Whitenack was wonderful. High energy (in a good way), straight forward and to the point, but also very compassionate. I didn't have to reach down into my soul, pull my guts out, and struggle to articulate...he asked questions that touched on every single thing I was feeling, then told me what I had, suggested what I should take to help, and more importantly, told me why. Super thorough and told me exactly what to expect moving forward. I also appreciated that he didn't pressure me about therapy right now. It was a very good experience and I'm so glad I went. Whitenack is brilliant, truly on the cutting-edge of psychiatry. I wish there was a 10-star option. First off, "bedside" manner: He's charismatic and easy to talk to, and he listens well and really hears what you're saying. Secondly, smarts: He answers all your questions in a way that makes you realize that he has a good feel for what's probably going on in your brain from a scientific perspective. He's obviously fascinated by the science of the brain, which I think is key. Thirdly, methodology: He uses DNA-testing to help ascertain which medications are most likely to be effective for you. This seems to be a relatively new & definitely underutilized technique, which is unfortunate because many insurance-policies will cover the test, as it cuts down on the likelihood of having to try multiple medications to find the right one for you (thereby saving them money in the long-run). Furthermore, this same DNA test can detect whether you have a neurotransmitter processing/production problem. I did, and so he prescribed me a "medical food supplement," basically an activated L-methyfolate vitamin, called Deplin. And, suddenly, for the first time, my body knows what to do with the serotonin it receives from my antidepressant. The difference I've experienced since starting Deplin in tandem with Prozac is huge. Fourth, above-and-beyond patient care: Since Deplin can be expensive, Whitenack gave me two weeks worth free samples and then went out of his way to give me coupons and pharmacy-direct purchasing options to ensure that I could afford it. Ultimately, my particular insurance company was a jerk and didn't want to cover a "medical food supplement" at all - but Whitenack certainly went well out of his way to try and make it more affordable, which was really wonderful of him. Have been to several psychiatrists over the course of some years and have never been so thoroughly impressed with anyone. Could not recommend Caleb Whitenack more highly. read more

As a new patient, it was going to be a month before I could be seen, but Dr. Whitenack's kind receptionist worked to get me in sooner by calling when he had a cancellation. After some detailed questions and a thorough conversation, I felt like Dr. Whitenack understood what was going on with me. As a result of my fear of medication due to severe side effects, he requested drug-gene testing to find the right medication for me. I never knew anything like that existed. It relieved my anxiety about taking medication and made me hopeful that under his care, I'll get better soon. He also gave me some great suggestions for relieving anxiety, all of which I'm planning to try. read more
