I came to Cali Viejo with my family and had a really great experience! We ordered the fried chicken, and it was delicious. It came with rice, beans, and plantains, and the portion was really big for the price. I also got the natural soursop juice, which was really good and refreshing. I tried the Colombian tamal too, and it was HUGE! It came with rice and was very filling. We also got a sandwich with smashed fried plantains, an empanada for my little sister, and some pandebono. Everything was really good! My parents are from Colombia, so they really enjoyed this place and loved the Colombian food. The service was great, the atmosphere was nice, and it's a very family-friendly restaurant. Overall, we had a great experience. This place was amazing! This is my first time ever having Columbian food, but I genuinely think that it won't be my last at all! I got the paisa, and when it came out, I was shocked with how much food it was. Definitely worth the money, and a friend of mine got the sampler as a main dish, and it was fantastic! First time trying Cali Viejo. Overall, it was ok not bad, but not amazing either. I ordered the beef soup (sancocho), the flavor wasn't bad, but i didn't really enjoy it, it was also way too thick for my taste. What really stood out was the great service and the pleasant atmosphere. The place is small, but it's clean and comfortable. The natural juices and tequeños were delicious, definitely a 5/5 in that area. I wouldn't rule out coming back to try something else. read more

Wow can't say enough. My mom had been here a little over a year before and had me spend a year trying to find the place because she could not remember the name and we aren't from here. Finally a week before her birthday we found it. The staff had changed but from what she said they were amazing the last time but are even better now and to be honest that says a lot because she is harder to please then me. My favorite pool guy Luis owner of Family Pool Service brought me a little treat for lunch last week. The liver and onions from this restaurant. Not a lot of people like liver, so I'm not sure how he knew I would like it, but I didn't just like it. I loved it. It literally was the best liver and onions I've ever, ever had! I had to ask him where it was from and get the address and phone number. I found it on yelp and this is a place. I will probably be going to quite often. read more

Coming from the Fort Lauderdale area in Broward County, the difference in flavor and quality is noticeable. I understand prices have gone up everywhere, so that part wasn't surprising, but I do believe they could work on improving their seasoning and overall cooking style. Was here recently with 3 other couples for a birthday celebration. Made a reservation, and they had a nice table set up for us. The waitress and bartending staff were attentive and efficient. The drinks and food were delivered at just the right time, and were all done perfectly. I had the Carne Encebollado, which was beautifully presented and perfectly prepared. Wife had a similar experience with the Camarones Bowl. The rest of the table enjoyed the same results - outstanding food and service, with the wonderful flavors of a truly outstanding Columbian kitchen. Prices are reasonable, and portion sizes allowed us take-home meals the following day - which even though were a day old and re-heated, still retained their excellent flavors. And usually, I take pictures of the food when it is served, but it looked so fantastic, I just dove in. The menu has decent photos for you to reference but really don't do the food justice. Just go there! We come here several times a year, and every time we leave, we ask ourselves the same thing - "Why don't we come here more often"? I think this time we will. read more

Cali Viejo is situated on the west-bound side is US-60 in Brandon. A non-descript cream colored building with a lovely mural on the side. Upon entering you come upon the bar area. We were warmly greeted and seated. The hostess/waitress was friendly and suggested several items. We came here as I wanted a good Yellow Rice and chicken dinner. When visiting my parents abt 7-years ago we had this dish here. Our waitress said "yes, we have chicken and we have yellow rice..." this was not one coherent dish but a chicken breast (fried or grilled) with a side of yellow rice. I wasn't happy but ordered it. I received ONE flattened (pounded) grilled chicken boob or one grilled chicken boob that was sliced in-half (horizontally) and I got 1/2 of that; what I'm saying is it was a 'thin' chicken boob. In my experience when you order a chicken dinner you usually get two boobs or one large unsliced chicken boob. And there was the side of yellow rice. My mother ordered the breaded pork cutlet and black beans & rice. The chicken was flavorful but being so thin it was dry and the yellow rice was the hit of the dish. The pork cutlet was very delish. We ordered the Flan for dessert. The Flan arrived and plate presentation was nice but the Flan looked like a cookie with whip cream on top. Nothing like the 100's of restaurants I've ordered Flan in before. The flavor was there but the creamy custard texture wasn't. To me it's like the custard broke while setting up. But, the flavor was there. Over all the food, while flavorful, but very basic, a lil skimpy, and did not equate to the prices charged. I'm not going to say "I won't be back" but I will say it might be awhile based on this visit. read more

I was very disappointed. I entered the restaurant because the bakery closed early and I also wanted a take-out meal. I waited, standing up, for 15 minutes to finally have someone waived over to me. Another 10 minutes for bakery. The servers did not care to help me but they were helping all the seated customers. I took the bakery items and never ordered the food. We were in the area between breakfast and lunch so we decided to pop into the bakery side for a breakfast sandwich. The Cali Bakery is just to the left of Cali Viejo. We walked into an empty place but we were sort of greeted when walking in. I took it upon myself to go find a menu and then was asked if I would like to order to-go or sit down. We chose to sit down as I was with my kids. The kids ordered orange juice and I ordered water. After some time, the kids were brought fresh OJ that was delicious. I was brought a bottle of water. I ordered the cheese egg and sausage Cuban for the kids to share and I ordered bacon egg and cheese croissant. That also took a good amount of time. There were a couple more people that came in after we ordered and they were still sitting there waiting after we were done eating. My croissant was a little burned on the bottom but otherwise as was expected, and they kids enjoyed their sandwich. Nothing special for the price aside from fresh orange juice $3 each. We probably won't come back here but it was an ok breakfast. read more

The Worst service I've dealt with in Tampa. It almost took 2hours to get a simple plate to come out. The "manager" words were, it's busy and they run bakery/Uber eats? Very unacceptable coming from a business owner himself. Waitress was terrible, as she didn't care to as least let us know the status of the food / bring water. We have driven past this place a million times questioned it..but then finally stopped by tonight! All I can say is.....A-MAZING!! Deceiving upon entering..seeming smaller than w what is pictured online. Great staff. Yazzy was our server. Informative and well versed. Quick with service ..couldn't ask for better. We got the Colombian empanadas to start. (along with sangria and a margarita) Requested chimmichurri sauce also. Very good tasting but a bit crunchy hard. Next time we will try the Cuban Empanadas. I got the small plate skirt steak w black beans and a salad. Excellent and perfect portion for me. My husband got a house special w fried egg, plantains, skirt steak pork belly and sausage w red beans and rice. Also excellent. Both our steaks were cooked perfectly. We ate at Cali Viejo for the first time tonight and it was excellent. Our server Alex was great. Two of us shared the beef empanadas, paella, 2 salads and had 2 mojitos each. We came by two Sundays in a row to try different things. Our server was the same both times and he is so friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. He suggested the Calenatdo Cali Viejo ($15.00) for us to share for breakfast the first time. It was delicious rice and beans with scrambled eggs, grilled steak, pork sausage and a big arepa with cheese. It was big enough to share and take some home. We also tried the fried yuca($3.00) and plantains ($3.00). The yuca is like fries and served with a nice sauce, the plantains are ripe and cooked well. We also took home to guava pastry($1.75) and pigs in a blanket($1.75). They were also delicious. Oh and do not forget the cafe con leche, it was also delicious (2 for $7.50). Our second visit was cafe con leche and Bandeja Paisa($18.00) with a side of yuca. Lunch was skirt steak, pork sausage, pork belly, salad, fried egg with beans and rice. We thought the pork belly was ok but not something we would order again. The rest was very good as usual. Of the two we like the Calenatdo Cali Viejo best. The prices were good and the portions are big. A few cleaning issues of used sugar packets in sugar dispenser, table needed to be wiped down again but overall good food. The food is very good and the service was excellent, the restaurant is not fancy or very big. Parties of more than 4 may have a hard time getting a seat. read more

Came here for lunch on Sunday with my roommate and a few Colombians who've always raves about this place! They have two rooms, with one that opens the weekend due to bigger crowds. Long menu with different menu options. Service by Alex and his team was phenomenal and treated us like family! The dish names are hard for me to pronounce so I will upload the picture but I highly recommend this place if you're Latin or a foodie you'll love this place. The churrasco was sent back due to an awkward scent. Staff was accommodating and provided an alternative quickly. The best option was the red beans with yellow rice.
