The car was repaired in the time frame they gave me and was charged $200 less than their initial estimate. Went to Alta Sierra Family Automative today because it was close and had great Yelp reviews…read more Wasn't disappointed. The owner, Tim, is a friendly talkative guy. Seemed like a guy I could trust. Had the same feeling about Chris, the the technician that worked on my father in-law's truck. Both seem like straight shooters. No up sell nonsense you get at the cheapie lube places. All I needed was an oil change and filter and an inspection; it wasn't cheap but I thought it was fair. (This was my late father-in-law's truck that I will be selling soon.) Chris diagnosed a rattle sound as the timing chain. He was very confident about that. The inspection found that the tires were 15 years old and severely cracked and therefore needed replacing immediately. Tim recommend a tire shop down the street, so I promptly went there and had them replaced. Also, the inspection found other issues that could be addressed; however, there was no sale angle for these issue (they were not offering to fix them). When I got home (don't live locally), I checked with other mechanics about the rattle. They thought it could just be a pulley. Had them remove the belts (at my expense) and listen again. Yep, unfortunately, it was the timing chain; Chris got it right. (On a personal note, Tim had sympathy for me as I was in the area just to complete a necessary but thankless family task. He had already been through a similar situation himself, so was quite knowledgeable how things should be handled. That was comforting. Seemed like I was talking to an old friend.) Don't live here; just up here for family matters, but if I did live here, I would trust this shop to work on my car and provide me with truthful information about my car; that is a big comfort these days.

Staff was friendly and accommodating, they actually drove me to a local Starbucks for me to wait…read moresince they do not have a waiting room available. The problem I had was that my hood release was bent by them and also the rubber and plastic seals around the window were not secured and actually bubbled, and we're not flat against the glass. When I brought this up, I was told this is to be considered normal, and nothing was needed to be done. But since then it has become a problem. I do not like how I was just dismissed when I was asking for a correction.
