The worst customer service experience that I had. I was trying to remove my PMI due to loan to value decreases. 1st rep told me I can get the removal faster by getting my own appraisal report and mailed it to them. After spending $400 on appraisal and mailed it to them, they said this is not what they say and I would have to do the apprasial with them. I am counting the months to refinance! The customer service here is the worst I have ever dealt with in the past 20 years. Caliber Home Loans prides themselves in how the take care of disabled vets, yet their level of service does not suit mediocrity. Issue: Caliber Home Loans is billing the incorrect amount for in escrow for taxes. NV bills quarterly for taxes. Caliber Home Loans is taking the quarterly payment monthly. So lets say your taxes are $2400 annual, per month that would equal $200 and quarterly $600. Imagine paying your quarterly taxes every month. My actions Contacted reps 3 times over the phone. The gem and pride of Caliber Home Loans, their second rep asked that I contact Caliber Home Loans with respect to my request through the mail. Pretend this is you...overcharged and now asked to communicate through the postal service during a pandemic when money isn't exactly flowing in like a rapid river. So here I am...I've had to send three certified letters asking to drop my taxes from payment because Caliber Home Loans was not "escrowing" the correct amount and the terms for my loan allow me to drop this. First letter went to the customer service address that their wonderful representative provided me. Second & Third letter went to their Customer Service department (again) and their Corporate office for awareness. The letters sent were certified in case I need to battle with the three credit bureaus, I am prepared. How many of you have had to run through this level of effort with a mortgage company? I hope zero - and if you don't go through Caliber Home Loans, you got a better chance of keeping that bad luck out of your court. read more

I only do yelp reviews when a company is either outstanding or absolutely horrible. I do not give reviews to so-so companies, bad companies or even very bad companies. But HORRIBLE is exactly what Caliber Home Loans is. The person I spoke with was either an idiot or completely incompetent. I was told that I could not use my debit card to pay my mortgage payment. I used the bank account number and called back every 2 days to make sure there were no problems. There were no problems until the check was late and a late fee was added. I spoke to the manager who seemed as incompetent as the other idiots I spoke with. And it turns out you can use a debit card. I HAVE SINCE GOTTEN REFINANCED WITH ANOTHER COMPANY AND THE DIFFERENCE IS AMAZING. RUN FROM THIS COMPANY. THERE ARE SERIOUS ISSUES WHEN IT IS A 1.5 STAR OUTFIT AND THAT IS ONLY BECAUSE YOU CAN'T LEAVE A 0 STAR RATING. They will not talk to you personally, and would rather you hold on the phone for three weeks or go through their myriad of phone prompts and selections. Caliber Home Loans is not recommended!!! David Keenum Loan Consultant NMLS ID#: 491815 is horrible. He loses paperwork, forgets to ask for documents until it too late, doesn't return phone calls promptly and neither do his bosses. We've been trying to close on a home we are selling for over 4 months now. It's one thing after another as he says oh well I need this or that either lost or forgotten till the last minute and then we have to redo paperwork because the date ran out. There is no sense of urgency or enthusiasm to get the job done. I've never heard of such treatment! read more

This company denied us a refinance due to a credit report they told me was not required. My credit has a freeze, which I didn't lift, so how did they run it? DO NOT USE THIS MORTGAGE COMPANY!!! This is the worst mortgage company I have ever dealt with. I have a mortgage with them and applied and was approved for a lower mortgage rate for re-financing, and it has now been over 5+ months, and nothing has happened - the loan has not been finalized. The loan officer has stopped returning my emails and phone calls. I am losing money, as my payments would have been less had the re-financing been completed. Then at the beginning of the new year, my payments have increased, due to taxes, so now I'm paying twice as much (extra) for my mortgage each month. I'm very frustrated that no one has followed up to tell me what the hold up is except a few lame excuses blaming it on Covid (now that excuse is getting old), and that this company is making money off of me. To top it off, the mortgage rates are even now lower, so I'm losing more money every month. I'm not only frustrated, but very upset and angry. With covid having decreased my working hours, my income is less, and honestly I'm worried about even being able to afford my mortgage in a few months. Last November I was told it would be another 45 days. That date has come and gone, and no one has taken the time to explain in detail what the delay is. I don't think a mortgage company can hold up a re-finance loan so they can make more money, but these types of thoughts have crossed my mind, and I don't know who to report this to. started refinancing in September, was told it would take 30-45 days to complete, Waited till the beginning of December and the loan processer kept wanting documentation showing that were still employed when we went him everything multiple times and that we were approved as well. Turns out that he set our file aside and not even worked on it for some time. Long story short, DO NOT go to this company. Started my refinancing over a month ago and decided to just now tell me that I will not get out of PMI when I was told originally to do this loan so I could make this happen. They have not honored any of their words, and when I spoke with upper management it just got worse ! Lack of communication and too many IDK's from people who are supposed to be professionals in this. I am applying for a VA loan with Caliber Home Loans.  I meet all qualification criteria and intend to occupy this home as my primary residence.  However, my loan officer told me Caliber Home Loans does not believe I will occupy this as my residence and has rejected my application.  They are discriminating against me and not taking my intent to occupy on face value because I am a property manager and own multiple homes.  They believe I am lying and will buy this as in investment home.  I do intend to move in, and I have told them that I am downsizing because my son is going to college and we need to move closer to the school our girl's attend to reduce our commute time.  My closing is on May 2 and I am in jeopardy of missing my closing date.  Since they have delayed this process, if I go with another lender my interest rate will increase by more than 1%.  This is very stressful and I do not believe they are acting ethically.  As a veteran, I served my country and now my integrity is being questioned and I cannot get a loan simply for the fact that the underwriter does not believe I will be moving in the home. read more

This rating is for mortgage servicing - I recently refinanced my mortgage and indeed received a good rate. The process was OK as I was a highly qualified borrower. My issues all began when Caliber became the servicer for the mortgage - they try to force you to log into a separate portal to make payments directly from your bank, If you use your own banks bill pay service they do not attribute additional payments of principal automatically - for some reason they seem to think their customers are trying to pay their next months payment a month in advance. This will result in additional interest payments from borrowers - a very dishonest practice. After two months of questioning the reason for this practice no one has taken my complaints seriously - they have made the changes I have had to contact them to request - wonder how many times they get away with it? read more

Submitted an application for a home loan in June of 2020 and everything was supposedly going fine until the file was submitted to the underwriters. They pointed out that we showed a loss in 2019 on our business tax return and therefore the underwriters and the loan officer shut down our loan. Rather than opting to use previous years tax returns I was told "Well if you can pull a rabbit out of your hat this would be a good time to do it". This after I paid $500 for an appraisal that I never received and was supposedly never completed. "The appraiser is going to keep the money". Poor service, terrible follow through, refusing to respond to e-mails about the appraisal, rude customer service and a complete waste of time. If negative stars were possible I would max out the negative. My mortgage was sold to them so I didn't have a choice. I submitted paperwork to establish an escrow account for my taxes and insurance and it is still not established after two months. When I call they say they are researching but I sent the all the paperwork from the tax authority and insurers. The issue was elevated to management two weeks ago but has resulted in nothing and they won't let me talk to the people that are responsible for establishing the escrow account. Caliber is a mix of incompetence, laziness, and lack of accountability. read more

Too bad yelp doesn't let you use zero stars. Ive been paying for a year, on time, everytime. They made a mistake estimating my escrow account at the beginning of the loan. They didnt add in both tax payments. So all of a sudden they want to up my monthly payments by $583. None of that is the bad part. The bad part is that they are a$$holes about the whole thing. They just increased my monthly payment but only said that my taxes changed. My actual taxes only changed $38 twice a year. After we got in contact, i found out the rest. So I paid my original payment amount on time for november. They called me on december 1st for debt collection and had filed a 30 day delinquency on my credit. I set up to pay the new amount but they refuse to remove the credit report delinquency. Eventhough this whole thing is their fault and i had paid the contracted amount. Same as other reviewer, I wish I could give negative stars! This was the worst experience I have ever had. Caliber bought the mortgage company I had gone through, in the transition they lost my phone number and email address. They ended up rejecting a payment because it had the old account number on it and never notified me - including not telling me the new account number. My bank ended up telling me weeks later the check had been returned. Caliber had charged me a late fee and was going to send my account to collections, instead of sending me a note. On top of that, during the acquisition, they stopped collecting for my insurance escrow, started collecting for HOA escrow (which I pay directly) and started collecting for the condo association's Master Insurance Policy (which the HOA pays for). Awful, awful, awful! BUT, I am encouraged to call the Insurance department back and help them correct my account! Won't that be fun! read more

I applied to a hard ship loan modification, my husband pass away and I applied right out way I did not want be behind on payments, well Caliber Home Loans denied my claim because, I was not late on my payments, I am not unemployed, I am not received any help from the government, o and I have equity in the house, really? my husband brought the majority of income and my salary is not enough to do the mortgages payment nor the utilities. As a present Caliber home loan customer.I started an application on May 22nd, 2020 for a ReFi. After 4 weeks and supplying this company with every piece of documentation , they decided to change loan officers mid way. The second officer could not find my files or paperwork. I re submitted my paperwork again. Constantly asking for paperwork week after week. Finally getting a conditional approval letter, and submitting those requested papers, they decided to ask for more paperwork. The phone calls,and requests got longer and longer apart. Like they were stalling. Being told to call this person, then call that person. Now here we are. 3 months later and still no direct answer even after a conditional letter of approval. Which was met. Talk about a circle jerk. I already have a mortgage with them. Paid 3 months in advance. You would think they would want to keep a good paying customer. Guess not. service is in the toilet for sure. What happen to negative stars. These guys are here to RIP every penny out of you. I called in to remove my PMI and was told that i needed to pay another $23,000 to get rid of it. Great after 1 month i had the money and called in, this time they told me that i have to re appraise my house and then go from there. What the F..., they are trying to rip me another $350 and keep giving me false information. On top of that, their online system sucks. You can't even modify your monthly payment to pay additional principal. You have to mail in a form, if you ask them to send information via email, they don't have the capability to do that, everything is through paperwork and mail. What type of century are we living in today. With other company i can do all these stuff in seconds. I have another mortgage w/ Chase and I was able to remove my PMI as long as i brought the loan down to 80%. Their customer service isn't fully train and always give you different information. These guys are SCUM, i am stuck w/ them because BofA sold my loan, piece of shiiit. Now i am thinking about pay off everything and don't want to deal w/ these SCUM bag. I agree with the other posts here, if negative stars were possible that would be my rating. I currently have 2 loans with caliber and only because of my loan officer, she's great but dealing with the main office for anything is a joke! Anytime I call, which I try not to, I get a different answer from a different person. I too am trying to remove my PMI and have not even gotten a response and you can't call anyone because, get this, the PMI department doesn't have a phone number! So I put it in writing, twice...yup, still no response. I've had mortgages on several homes with other companies and caliber is by far the worst! I'm looking into another bank to pay off these loans just so I don't have to deal with this poor customer service that caliber thinks is so great...I hope this review helps anyone to stay away from caliber! read more
