The ladies working there are very nice! This review has nothing to do with that. I brought in clothes to sell to them. All nice brands, mind you. They took my bag of items and told me it would be a 45 minute wait. They text me that they were ready, only to tell me they couldn't take any of my items because they "don't sell those brands". Idk why they can't look at the items right when you bring them in to make sure they can "take those brands" so you don't have your time wasted! Also don't understand how a second hand clothing store can be so picky about brands, especially when I brought in nice brands. I would really think about it before bringing clothes back here. read more

Unfortunately, my experience at this thrift store was extremely disappointing. One thing that really stands out to me is how selective they seem to be about who they buy from and what they accept, yet I've seen brands like Target and Urban Outfitters, as well as used activewear and leisurewear with visible stains, being sold in the shop. It's hard to understand the standards when the inventory doesn't always seem to reflect them. The customer service was also incredibly uncomfortable. The employees mostly kept to themselves and, in my experience, only seemed interested in greeting or engaging with certain customers, particularly people they recognized as SLO locals. I also experienced employees repeatedly looking me up and down and giving me extremely obvious dirty looks. There are mirrors throughout the store, so I'm sure they're aware of how noticeable this behavior is. They may have some decent and unique pieces, but for me, the customer service completely overshadows that. Shopping should not feel like you're being judged, watched, or made to feel like you don't belong. My heart genuinely goes out to anyone who has walked into this store and been made to feel less-than while simply trying to shop. A good thrift store should make people feel welcome, not uncomfortable or unwelcome. read more

The store is cute but I won't be returning for a few reasons. First, I was surprised by some of the prices for well worn items. Second, it is not size inclusive. This is probably a great place to shop second hand if you are a small size. Which is so frustrating & why I typically avoid going to these types of stores. Third, I brought in a stack of 10 or so quality name brand jeans nicely folded and they only took one pair for $7, then handed the rest back to me just thrown in the bag. I couldn't help but wonder why they were turning away quality items in good condition in larger sizes (12-16, L-1X) when the selection they had was considerably less than smaller sizes. So many smalls and mediums. It seems like they're catering to a certain demographic. Disappointing because I'd love to shop at places like this if I left feeling good. read more

Calico Trading Co. is a secondhand store that offer a lot of good branded clothes, shoes, and accesories. The store was pakces with lots of people looking through the different aisles of clothes! They offer brands like North Face, Lululemon, Urban Outfitters, etc. I didn't get to look for long because I had an appointment to go to afterwards but I am most definitely coming back and take my time looking through their stuff! read more

This is the best vintage shop I've been to here in SLO, they do a fantastic job of curating unique shining pieces and not just throwing everything and the sink on a rack. They're intelligently organized by both color and size, as well as type, e.g. athleisure or sneakers etc. It's a terrific place to browse with an uplifted feel, not like a flea market market or church sale where everything is marked super low and up for grabs. It's neat and clean, has an upscale boutique feel to the store, and not at all like the typical vintage up-cycled shops nor the higher priced consignments places. I scored several reasonably priced things, and thrilled at the chase. The service super sweet and the try on rooms had a touch of glamor, as dies the entire store either color filled merchandise. The customer service is also kind and friendly. This is definitely a destination for folks who love second hand stuff! And guess what? They have a huge selection of stuff for men as well, of which I got an older LLBean shocker sbd because it's slim fit, I figured for $20 I could use it super functionally! read more

As we all know, SLO has lots of certain things (sandwich joint, anybody?) and not enough of others. We are in no short supply of thrift stores, no sir! However, Calico is filling a gap of what any rad college town needs: a true second hand clothing store. We went on their grand opening day (because we're cool like that) and it's clear that the owner has done it right. Store was clean, well organized, and the selection was great. My wife found three or four winners, and I'm excited to keep going back to see what else I can find. Selection was geared towards a wide range of ages it seemed. Was approached by a woman who warmly introduced herself, turns out that she's the owner. A true SLO County native who's turning over a new career leaf... and is doing it well. A little pricey but cute stuff. We went there while on vacation in Pismo beach with the family.

This store up sells so many items WITH STAINS, holes and rips. I guess I understand selling items with stains, if it is priced accordingly. I also don't understand what they are buying for, it seems like they source a lot of the clothes themselves to be able to sell certain trends. I took a box of clothes and jewelry that was in style and seemed like what they were looking for and they passed on all of it. I don't understand what they buy, and what they sell is pretty overpriced and extremely worn. I do like some of the styles they sell, like all of the vintage t shirts and college sweaters. read more

My gripe about this shop is there were very few options for plus size ladies available. There are multitudes of women with long legs and big butts that would pay good money for secondhand clothing. This store buys a lot of its clothing from people bringing items to them which they then purchase and resell. I find it hard to believe that there aren't people bringing them clothing in larger sizes. Alienating a large portion of your potential customer base is just silly. Otherwise, the store was cute, clean, and the people were nice. I just wish that there was representation there for larger ladies. We like to spend less and look good too. read more

I would give them 0 stars if I could. I brought in 2 baskets worth of expensive clothing (4 Patagonia fleece jackets, vintage Levi's Sherpa jean jacket, pair of RayBans, and other stuff) and they offered me $157 for all of it. I checked the prices that they are selling some of the same items that I have for, and it's over $60 per item. When they offered me $7 for 2 of my Patagonia jackets. When I told them I just wanted my stuff back, they gave it back to me all unfolded and just thrown in the baskets. But they expected me to bring in my items folded. Very disappointed. Cool place. Much more expensive than goodwill but still a steal compared to any store like this in San Francisco or LA. They had good stuff at good price points and everything was clean and organized. Don't come here expecting to get 10 items for $15, but if you are looking for a cool vintage pair of Levi's, a dope leather jacket or a vintage dress for half or less than retail, swing by calico. read more

Whoever collects the stuff to sell there has really good taste. This isn't your usual "thrift store"... I'd call it more of a curated collection of high-end brands (like Anthropologie). This is an awesome shop in slo! They have a well curated selection of gently used threads and other items. I found some beautiful free people clothes and 2 perfectly working Polaroid cameras (for a GREAT price!). If you're thinking about thrifting your gifts this holiday season, you must check out Calico! So happy we found this place! Love sustainable fashion, and typically shop at vintage/consignment stores or fleas to add to my closet. Calico came up on my search when I was looking for thrift stores in the area. I wouldn't consider it thrift based in prices, but they're definitely not price gouging. I thought prices were fair on their vintage pieces. I've seen some resellers charge upwards of $40 for 90s Harley Davidson shirts, while Calico charged $25 and under for theirs. I picked up a pair for vintage 80s Reebok's for $34, which I've seen some people pricing for $50 and over. Their pieces are clean with no flaws. The store itself is well organized and super clean. Aside from clothing, they do carry some home goods including dishes and artwork. I absolutely adore this store and will make a point of stopping by when I'm in the area. Just had the BEST shopping experience at Calico. Had lunch at Nucci's next door and was curious to take a peek then left with an armload of great clothes and even a cute Coach wristlet/wallet. The store is clean and decorated with natural decor down to the detail of matching wooden hangers. The clothes are clean and even smell fresh. With COVID I have missed the retail "in store" experience and despite the mandate of COVID masks and hand sanitizer stations it felt like a relatively "normal" shopping experience. So treat yourself and take a look. I would love to see this small business weather the storm of Coronavirus as will need to lighten our footprint through repurposing and recycling things with businesses like this. Love love love this place! I was so impressed. I had all but given up on going to second hand clothing stores. I was tired of having to dig through tons of awful things just to find a couple good. This store has done all of that for you. What you will find here are today's styles and trends. If you like the name brand clothes that are still in great shape come here. No you will not pay 4.00 for a shirt. But you will pay a fraction of the price that you would normally pay at say Nordstrom. You have to check this place out. Super cute things.
