We have been going to the drive in and swap meet for over 20 years. Always pretty nice people, and usually stop and have some menudo. But this Sunday we brought our miniature dachshund under our coat and the older lady selling the tickets saw his nose and told us there were no dogs allowed and we should put him back in the car. Since we know our dog is very quiet and harmless we just kept him covered and went in the other side. On the first row we saw 2 dogs, and two more on the second row. Do you just have to be old to get your dog in? My wife just finished 16 chemo treatments last month and she can't bring our dog in? So we probably won't go back.

Nice flea market. It reminds me of the old Santa Cruz flea market. It's got that vibe

They have good vegetable and fruit produce for sale and fun food options (my husband loved the BBQ ribs). It was $25 for a combo plate but they gave him a lot of food. We bought some large avocados, 3 for $5. We also bought some mini bananas, apricots, and fried pork rinds. I found some cute Hello Kitty items to use as gifts and some glittery heart shaped earrings for $5. This swap meet has vendors selling retail items originating from China or Mexico. Items such as clothing, jewelry, toys, and toiletries. There are also second hand vendors selling used household items and tools. There are not vendors selling handmade crafts like at a farmers market. It costs $4 to park and it was a zoo trying to find a spot. We lucked out and found a space in the handicapped parking. It was a fun thing to do on a Sunday in July 2025

In our favor was the late time we were headed in at 2ish. No line in to the parking area, four dollars cash was easy enough. I headed to an area closest figuring the early folks had already left...ta da. There was a great spot under a tree. No charge to walk in, great! So we strolled up one isle and down the other so we cover the entire ground. Initially I was not impressed, my first thought was that a ship from China dropped a couple of containers and that was the show. There were quite a few duplicate vendors a few too many. I was hoping for the days gone by when sellers brought everything in their garage, that wasn't the case here. I did find a couple of garage re-resellers but I rent so I don't need the gardening stuff. We bought some waters and had a seat at one of the vendors fold up table, the tables and chairs were filthy dirty as was the case for nearly every food vendor with tables and chairs set up. I thought to myself you could sell alot of cleaner doing a demo show of cleaning 'em. I picked up some fruit and some kitchen tool items but other than that it was a nice walk about. Folks were friendly the weather was perfect, a good adventure. Thanks Foodguy-Martin

Happiness set in as soon as I walked through the door. Clean, organized, bright and more importantly -- no old, dirty smell! The first item that caught my eye was a handmade mug. It reminded me of when my grandson was learning the alphabet as he would excitedly shout "N is for Narwhal!" Needless to say, I couldn't put it back down. We browsed every corner and found so many lovely items, including a beautiful vintage vanity (on my wish list). Prices were surprisingly reasonable, which made it really difficult not to buy more. As we were ready to check out with my mug, the husband pointed out a tiny silver scoop in a locked case. He could tell on my face that I wanted to add it to my collection, so he called someone to open the case -- he's such an enabler. :) The staff are easy to find, incredibly friendly and helpful. While in Solvang, we found this really cool vintage thrift shop and walked around a bit. The inside had so many items to look at, but still felt very organized and didn't leave me feeling overwhelmed. They had everything - old records, comics, purses, fur coats, glassware -- even backstage passes from different concerts which I thought was pretty cool. I am always on the hunt for Uranium glass and A Piece of the Past had a few items. One being an ashtray and another being a set of glasses that I am still kicking myself for not just buying. Service was very friendly throughout the store and I also thought that most of the items were fairly priced - it didn't feel like they were trying to gouge anyone. Check them out!
