The food is mid. The real issue is that everything (and I mean everything) is an upcharge. Want corn on your burrito? Sorry bud that gonna be a 50 cent upcharge. Want beans? Sorry thats a 50 cent upcharge. Also let's be clear no where on the menu does it say anything about an upcharge. I'm surprised they didn't start counting out my beans and charge me per bean. The music is so loud in there that even if they did tell me it was an upcharge, I would have to be an expert lip reader to understand. This place operates under the guise of a cheap easy spot. It's none of those things. Literally go anywhere else. Also service was impressively slow for a restaurant where everything is already prepared. From away , this was my first visit to California Burritos . I have lived in California and this food is Authentic . The pupusas were some of the best I've had and I've had them in El Salvador. Even the salsa Rojo is amazing ! I also had the fish tacos ! Wow ! Perfect ! Everything I tried was superb and the staff was friendly and the place was clean ! Maps on iPhone did not bring me to the exact location so I called their number and no one ever answered said box was full multiple times . I called two other locations to ask where they were or if they were out of business . No answer no where . I definitely see that as problematic ! Please bring this franchise to Maine ! The flavors are more authentic than what we've found at most other places in NH. Prices were reasonable. The carnitas burrito was delicious. Great food, no complaints on that whatsoever. Having said that, this place has by far the slowest service you'll find for an assembly line type restaurant. If you have 40-60 minutes and don't mind a wait, you won't be disappointed. Dropped into this little strip mall burrito place that blows away Chipotle. There's no contest. I ordered the fish tacos that were just delightful and had the right amount of spice. You could pick from three types of shells. I did the soft flower and they toasted them. So you had a nice warm wrap around fried fish, fresh vegetables, guacamole and sauces for $12 you get three... What awful managerial skills. I accidently placed an order for 10 of the same burritos (the staff called, kudos to them) and I told them it was an accident and only needed two and to please cancel that order and even on the screen it told me the order didn't go through. They told me to replace my order for the two I wanted and the manager would call me about a refund as the transaction for the 10 did end up hitting my card. This was on Monday the 19th, I have yet to receive a call from said manager and I have called numerous times and it says inbox is full and to call another time. read more

My husband and I stumbled upon this gem on a Friday evening. We knew we had landed in the right spot as the line was near the door. It was not too long of a wait as the staff was in constant movement. We ordered a little bit of everything. The fries were perfect hot and crispy. My husband tried the California burrito and loved it. I had a burrito bowl with chicken as the protein. It was perfectly seasoned and the serving was ample. The chips are house made and delicious as well. They have a great selection of jarritos as well. We really enjoyed our meal and we cannot wait to return. The prices were low as well; we had a ton of food for less than $40. This is a casual spot with plenty of indoor seating. read more

When California Burrito first came to Manchester the food was awesome but since they been here the food has gone downhill. I ordered online and came in 1/2 hour later and my food was still not ready. I ended up waiting an additional 15 minutes. I guess it will be chipotle from now on. Sad to say I used to like this place better than chipotle. read more

A friend recommended this place and we were so happy he did. What a gem. The setup is similar to Chipotle but the ingredients are superior. We ordered various tacos and carne asada fries and all were delicious. My daughter has been dreaming about those fries ever since she had them. Food-so freshly cooked/prepared/assembled right in front of you, to order. None of the frills, but all the great taste! Service-good, attentive and there to please. Hard to understand options, there are so many. It's worth going at lunch (they are very busy) but watch what the locals order to learn the tricks and tips. Ambiance-only detractor is its set up wonky-hard to get in and get out. The tables left of right as you enter and a Charlie-Foxtrot develops with so many funneling to one station to begin the order. However, it's like a Seinfeld show; in that it's so good the taste overpowers inconveniences (no soup for you). If you habla español it's a bit easier. Parking sucks, because they are so busy. Worth it to walk around the building. **love this place and food and people. Suggestion to let the line come in and to one side then form a turnstile to get the line away from seating. Tasty, fresh and filling! California Burritos is now open in Manchester, next door to Firehouse Subs on South Willow Street. Their other locations are in Nashua (2) and Hudson. They serve up fresh & quick made to order burritos, burrito bowls, tacos, salads, quesadillas, plus carne asada fries, nachos, fish tacos, and pupusas. The prices depending on protein choice is $7-$8.10 plus tax. They also offer chips & salsa ($0.99), Coke fountain drinks, Mexican Coke, Jarritos, and bottled beers. The place is order at the glass counter where they make your food fresh to order. There is ample self serve table seating in the festive dining area with pink, yellow and green seats similar to the other locations. I stopped in at California Burritos of Manchester on Grand opening night and the place was very busy with a long line to the counter. It took about 10 minutes to reach the counter order area. I decided to go with an order of 3 Dos Equis Fish Tacos ($8.75) and 3 Pupusas ($2.10 each) which are grilled hot to order behind the counter. I held off on the guacamole ($2 extra) for the fish tacos. The food I ordered was really great. The fish tacos inbsoft corn tortillas were filled with chopped pieces of beer battered haddock, tangy cabbage mix (slaw), pico de Gallo, and a zesty chipotle dressing drizzle. The grilled Pupusas were the thick grilled corn tortillas filled with a mix of melted cheese, chicharron (ground pork), refried beans, served taco sauce and slaw mix.  However, since the place was new and very busy, the time to receive my food was very delayed since I did not order the standard "made to order immediately burrito" items,  though the 6 staff members including the manager were trying to keep up with the orders. It took about 25 minutes to receive my food boxed and bagged to go. They should add display monitors in the dining area with numbers for orders not served yet. They could also use monitors in the grill area with orders displayed to keep track of who is getting served first since there were several customers who also ordered pupusas and there was confusion about who ordered first and has been waiting longer for their order. My fish tacos were all set in 18 minutes, but I had to wait another 7 minutes for the 3 pupusas to be ready.  I will surely return again to this new Manchester location for my made to order fresh burrito, but I will hold off for a while when things slow down a bit and will stick to stopping at the 2 year old Hudson location for now. read more

If been there 3 times with in the past 4 months, the service and quality of the food just gets worse! last time I ordered fish tacos and barley got any fish, mostly lettuce and pico, lol. Guess I'm on a diet ! We also ordered pupusas, that were forgotten, other people who ordered after us had already gotten theirs.. The cashier always seems to have an attitude .. She threw our forks on the plates instead of handing them to us. Won't be returning, hopefully changes can be made so that the customers can have a better experience read more

This is my go-to for burritos. If you like the Chipotle/QDOBA made to order fast casual restaurants California Burritos will not disappoint. The quality of the food is much better and the flavors are much more authentic with staff members who seem to have a good idea of the food. Although I've mostly only bought burritos here they aldi have tacos, burrito bowls and carne asada fries with a few other options. They have some beers and fountain drinks, but I like their homemade horchata. They also have Jarritos. The ambiance is festive and even though it is mostly a to-go spot there is a decent amount of seating. I've been very impressed with each of my visits. read more

Food and staff are fantastic. The only downside for the Manchester location is that the online orders create a line that can move extremely slow. So you have a choice. Order online via their text option and cut everyone while being stared down by people at the door while they anxiously await to order or stand in line. I have eaten everything there at one point or another, and only once the steak was overcooked. It is much better than Chipotle! But the wait... perhaps that is why the food is always so good. Such a great alternative to chipotle! My boyfriend loves this place because the chicken isn't fatty and gristly, and the hot salsa is HOT. The chips are unique because they're thick and not overly salty. I always get a vegetable salad. I wish they had more protein options for vegetarians but the guacamole is very good. I would say that this is like a better Chipotle. I ordered a bowl and got a wrap on the side to make little burritos with my bowl as I normally do with Chipotle. but the ingredients that California burrito uses just tastes a lot better and fresher. It's harder to explain but when you do give it a chance and try it you will see what I mean. It might cost a couple dollars more than Chipotle but it's well worth it. I ordered a chicken quesadilla with double chicken. Guy grabs the fresh chicken breast straight off the grill and cuts it up!
