I submitted an online estimate request and scheduled a visit with designer Julie Medeiros, who arrived on time and was fantastic. She took detailed measurements of our semi walk-in closet, walked us through options, showed samples, and gave us a price on the spot, no pressure at all. The next day, Julie emailed a detailed virtual rendering of our closet, which really helped confirm our vision. After we decided to move forward, the contract was thorough, so be sure to read everything carefully before signing. We submitted our deposit on October 15th and received a December 1st installation date. A week before, we got a confirmation call with our arrival window. On install day, Aaron arrived right on time, friendly and professional, with another installer joining him. They completed the entire install and cleanup in about 2.5 hours. Overall, the process from design to installation was smooth and professional. My only drawback is the price, which is on the higher end compared to competitors. Even without premium finishes, it felt a bit steep for the quality of shelving. Overall, it was a great experience. If money is no object or you have a high price point, California Closets can design and build you a pretty extravagant storage system. read more

They installed a closet for my wife and I and she is very impressed. Had no problems with the installation, no surprises on the bill. The estimate was handled quickly and they were able to do whatever she wanted. They were also able to give her ideas on how to maximize her efficiency and closet space. I'm not really that handy so its helpful to have a company that can come out and listen to what you need and do a good job when everythings said and done. The closets were great but our sales rep, Mindy, basically ghosted us after selling to us and the installation took more than a month! We only got an installation for our master bedroom and the people installing were great, trustworthy guys but whoever did the scheduling for them just did us dirty! From start to finish of the installation took over a month when it should have only taken 2-3 days of work. But the guys were scheduled so far apart and Mindy completed stopped picking up the phone. read more

We have not had a service completed by the Modesto location so this review is based on our initial visit to the showroom. The store front is sparsely decorated and dusty/dirty. It took a full 5 minutes for someone to come out to greet us and when he did, the first thing he offered was his colleague's business card and suggested we visit the San Francisco showroom. He was not rude at all but made us feel like he did not want to put the time into answering our questions. It was a big let down and we will be using a different vendor. read more

We recently had our master walk-in closet redesigned by California Closets in Modesto. We are located in Lodi and had several friends recommend them. The design process with Mindy was fun and easy. The installation crew was professional and delivered an expert service in a timely manner. Our closet has weird angles, but they had no problem with the installation. The product is beautiful. Let me start by saying that Mindy is just wonderful. She really knows her stuff. We originally had California Closets come in a few years ago and install new closets in three of our bedrooms. So when my husband said he was going to call Mindy to get some ideas for our garage, I thought "closets"? Well it wasn't like that at all. We had a whole wall of wasted space with crapped out shelves. Now it is beautiful. We repainted our garage white before the installation and we had white cabinets put in. I highly recommend California Closets as now we have a really great storage area that has doors so stuff is out of site, and it is easy on the eye too. It was well worth it!!!! read more

I don't like leaving negative reviews, so let me start with the positive. The owner, Bob, came to our house and came up with a workable design for improving our closet space. The installers did a fine job of implementing his design, and it is far more functional than before. However, we expected the final product to look like the pictures he showed us, and that we had seen online, but got a jarring contrast between the new components and the ragged mess of the old closet. Our new-to-us house is 75 years old. The closet had gone through many stages. As they tore out the old fixtures, it exposed various levels of wall covering and flooring, some wallpapered, some painted, some exposed plywood, all dirty. We assumed they would cover that with a matching laminate to achieve the look we expected, but they didn't. When I asked the installers about that, they said it wasn't in the plans. We feel that Bob should have known that this would come up, and should have discussed this with us in advance. He could easily have convinced me the expense would be worth it, because I wanted the look we were after. Instead, we have spent another week cleaning, patching, repairing, sanding, painting, etc., just to get the closet to look decent. All that work after paying $3000 for a closet that did not meet our expectations. I emailed Bob right away - no response. When California Closets corporation asked for a review, saying they're not happy until we're happy, I told them - no response. A disappointing experience, for sure. read more

An extremely disappointing experience in dealing with the owner - Bob. I was so excited to start work on organizing our Master Suite walk in closet. Bob came to our home and spent about an hour working on the design. My budget was $3,000 - I think that is a lot of money. Bob's estimate came in over $2,000 - he said he would send a mock up in a week - however it took longer, when I finally received the $3,200 estimate- no drawers were added - so I asked what it would cost for 4 medium draws - the cost was $380.00 - So now we are at $3,600 - I was ready to move forward, however, I asked if he could send me a new mock up of what the closet would look like and what color options were available. After many texts and phones calls I never received an answer. I texted him yet again - and let him know that his nonresponse had made me look elsewhere. Ironically, I received a text back the SAME DAY - with "Okay, I'll take you off the schedule". Absolutely no customer service. I really think that my $3600.00 wasn't a high enough priority. read more

We moved into a new home and Mindy came around to assess our needs. Literally, I cleaned up and unpacked while Mindy walked around and check the closed areas of the house that I indicated that I would like to have shelves in. She informed me of what would look best in which closets and drew me a picture/sketch, so that I would have an idea before signing on. You knew exactly how to maximize space and utilize areas that I had not even thought about. She was kind, patient, knowledgeable and EXTREMELY Professional. I loved working with her and would recommend California Closets just because of her work. When the workers came to install the shelving space and cabinets in all three of my closets, I literally did not have to do a thing.
