Small little shop and friendly hurried guy behind the counter. I wanted a polish and my split sole to be fixed. He glued on new soles but the right sole delaminated after 1 day and it cost 60$. It was partly my fault for not asking the price before hand. I would have bought new shoes for this price. I am going to go back to Master Shoe Repair on Murphy in Sunnyvale. read more

I brought my most precious pair of shoes to California just because the shop was handy and I had waited so long that I just couldn't manage to comparison shop, check reviews or drive anywhere. I was worried but I needn't have been. He examined my shoes which had a torn bit on the heel. He asked me if I had invested a lot in my shoes and I said that they meant a lot to me and that I had bought them on a trip to Italy. I said I wanted to keep them forever. He smiled and fixed my shoes perfectly, flawlessly and lovingly. He warned me it would be expensive (that is why he asked about the original price) and showed me how shoes wear, etc. Maybe it works best if you slow down, like you expect your shoemaker to have done. You also may have to listen carefully and speak slowly with lots of smiles as English is our cobbler's native tongue. But that can be fun if you let it. And I am sort of floaty-happy because he treated my shoes as the precious, lovely things that they are. NB I left a $10 cash deposit and when I picked them up realized that he only takes cash. There is an ATM next door or nearby I gather but you may wish to be ready. Mine got resoled and tapped for $65. Worth every penny. read more

I read the other reviews of this place, and while I agree that the shop is small and the owner is friendly, the shoes that I've had re-soled have always lasted longer than the originals. I would also be surprised if he wouldn't fix any poor work; he remembers every customer and takes pride in his work. I don't recall his prices being as high as the earlier reviewer noted, typically my soles were $30-40 or so. California Cobbler also fixes luggage, makes keys, and has shoe laces that I can't seem to find anywhere else. My one criticism is that it would be better if he took credit cards, he takes cash only. read more

The guy does pretty quality work but let the buyer beware! Ask how much and have it in writing. I brought in two ankle boots and a pair of shoes and apparently was not specific enough with the minimum I wanted done. I paid 98.00 for three pairs of shoes. I brought another pair with me to drop off but after I got the price I asked and he said 38.00 when I balked at the price he asked how much I paid and then dropped it to 30.00. I don't want to haggle, I want the price listed and up front. I would have given him one star but the quality was good, but it's super shady in how he does business. My fault - don't make the same mistake! CASH ONLY TOO. I had $35.00 on me and had to run to an ATM to get 100.00. That made the experience extra perfect. :( read more

He repaired two pieces of top quality heavy duty (ballistic nylon) Boyt luggage bags for me and did a fine job adding leather inside one for extra strength where a zipper seam had torn lose on that bag. He also repaired a rugged zipper on the other. I asked him the price and completion date after he inspected my bags and he was competitive for a high caliber repair of quality goods after we took the time to discuss what my true expectations were. No rush ten-second conversation here. He did ask for a partial payment in advance but I refused to do that and he still took the job. They were completed ahead of the scheduled time for the agreed price quoted in advance. They look as good and perform as well as they did when I purchased them brand new a decade ago. If you bring him cheap quality to begin with don't expect lasting miracles. Be aware he is old school and only accepts cash. I suggest you negotiate in advance of any work being performed and have the price written on your tag. He runs his business without any modern electronic age devices. However, he knows his trade and is a very talented cobbler. Like I wrote above, he is old school and old school ways and craftsmanship isn't necessarily a bad or easy thing to find in the fast paced society of Silicon Valley these days. But since many here live and breath via credit cards or Apple pay and the like that is the only reason I gave him a four star rating instead of five. read more

Never again will I ever bring anything to this business. This guy should not be in business. He is shady! I needed to have the soles and heels of my FAVORITE boots fixed. I went in this store since I was near by. Right away he charged a high price. I don't know why I said yes, but maybe because I had the money back then. A few days later I was munching on the price ($66), and felt that I was being cheated here. To be totally honest, I didn't have that kind of money for boots that cost me half that price! So I left them there... For 2 years! But in all honesty I never found boots like that again and the reason why I wanted them fixed was because I simply LOVED my boots. So I mustard it up and paid the ridiculous price. The job he did was horrible! My soles were falling off the next day I wore the boots! I was so upset. I felt cheated big time. First on the money, then on the quality of his job! I basically need to take them to get fixed again. I don't feel that he would refix it. He does not seem to be the HONEST business owner to want to take accountability of his own mistake. Its a dead end. I would never ever recommend to anyone. He is over priced, and you have to fight him for a receipt. But I got one anyways, a tiny little paper with a stamp and written paid amount on it. Horrible experience: same story with not asking the price in advance. On top of that (stupid me) decided to make a copy of the key there. Paid $16 for the shoes (usually I paid $10 at other places for the job like that) and $3.50 for the key (Walmart $1.70) .The key doesn't work, the guy refused to make a refund or fix the key. Cash only wasn't a plus either, cannot get refund anyhow. read more

Will not go back. Do not recommend. I was quoted $16.99 for a simple heel repair. When I came to pick up, he started calculating a sales tax on top of the price. When I asked about why I am being charged a sales tax on serivices, he said that his cpa told him to charge it at 30%. Agree with previous reviewers-expensive, bad hours, cash only. I came here and asked to have taps installed on my leather soled Allen Edmonds. I told the owner I wanted metal taps---no plastic ones to which he replied "you want people to hear you walk." Exactly. When the proprietor can accurately anticipate your needs then that is 50% of good customer service. The other half is good work. On that note I got my shoes back promptly the next day and was completely satisfied. This shop also has a very good selection of Meltonian and Lincoln shoe care products, which can be difficult to find locally. I picked up two bottles of Lincoln sole edge which is a black or brown dye used to keep the edge of the outsole looking new. Anecdotally, Lincoln shoe care products are made right in Sunnyvale. I plan to bring another pair of Allen Edmonds and my vintage Florsheim Imperials here to get tapped as well. read more

expensive, inflexible and unreliable hours, and extremely poor quality the shop closes at 5pm, even though it says 6pm at the door, so I can't come pick up my shoes during the work days. I waited til Sat. and the shop is supposed to open at 10am, I went there at 10:40am, the sign says "will return at noon". So i waited til the following Sat. and finally caught him at the store. What was disappoing was that the shoes were in its original conditions. The guy put on the glue there on the spot when I was there, he said "wait 5 minutes then press it". As for the other pair, it broke down again the next day. I paid $20 for just some simple glue actions (I probably should've just done it myself, buy some glue and put it on myself), and it took 2 weeks and $20. Consider it a $20 hard lesson learned, not to go to that shop ever again. read more

I have been quoted a price before I drop the shoes to the store, when I dropped the shoes to the store he charged higher price, and the store hour is suck, I did another pair on my way home from work, they charged a lot less than this place and they did great job. I don't know why I picked up this place? the owner doesn't sound honest, I will definitely not recommend this place to anyone. i took in a pair of boots to have the bottom heels replaced. the guy behind the counter notified me that the price would be $30. i asked why the price was so high, and he asked me to leave the store?! what nerve. that is an OUTRAGEOUS price, since I only paid $16.99 for the boots at Ross. I took my boots to Henry's in Santa Clara and was charged $12, and i'm happy with the work done there. read more

I had heel pad replaced on two pairs of shoes, and they fell off within two months. I went back and he refused to fix them for free, he wanted to charge me the same thing as the first time he fixed them, he did not even offer a discount, and was not apologetic about his repair not lasting more than two months, he was actually arrogant. To make matters worse is prices are more expensive than the 2 other places I have been to. I charged me $30 per pair to have the pads under the heels replaced. He said he would polish the shoes and all but did not. I pointed it out when I picked up the shows and he said that I hadn't asked for it! I walked out and had my shoes fixed elsewhere for half the price and the pads are still there 6 months later. read more

Sorry to report that I had a very negative first (& last) experience at this shoe repair shop. Went in to have heels repaired on shoes I often wear with jeans. Tiny shop. Asked owner how long he'd been in business & he replied 25 years in that same location. I took that to be a good sign even though his English was not the best. He advertised as providing "while you wait" service which I asked for and without explanation, he said he couldn't do that. He quoted me a price of $20 & asked for a 50% deposit. When he saw that I pulled out a $20 bill, he asked for the full $20 on the spot! I declined saying that since it was my first time, I'd prefer to pay the rest when I picked up the shoes. When I picked up the shoes, he told me the total was $27! I reminded him that he had quoted me $20, but he said that no, he didn't and that the new heel bottoms cost twice as much as he told me when I dropped the shoes off. Bottom line - it was either pay the higher balance or not get my shoes back. I give this place "ZERO" stars and strongly recommend you go elsewhere. read more
