The front desk staff is always friendly if you don't want to order off the kiosks. I prefer the human interaction personally. If I have questions or make adjustments the staff is always very helpful. The ingredients here are always so fresh. The cooks have been well trained in cooking fish and seafood to perfection. It is always moist and tender. The quality of the fish is excellent. I ordered the Branzino, a sea bass, with the fresh sliced tomatoes and feta. My second side I upgraded to a Caesar salad for 99 cents. The tomatoes were yummy, the salad had a good flavor but unfortunately the lettuce was about room temperature. It has a very industrial interior. On a busy day the cement floors and high ceilings amply sound so it can be very loud. The decor is not inviting so it's not an environment you want to hang out in long. They do have outdoor seating, but you are right on California Ave so it can be very loud as well. I go for the food not the experience. The food was good and fresh and they give you plenty. You place your order at the counter and pick it up when they call your name or text you. My grandsons love their food they are more into fish than I am. They love their fish and chips and their salmon. My daughter in law got the salmon salad and she loved it. This place is a favorite of theirs. I got the shrimp trio and didn't care for the coconut shrimp or the garlic shrimp but the shrimp skewers were very good. I had a really good experience at California Fish Grill. The restaurant was clean, and the staff were friendly and efficient even during busy hours. I ordered the lobster roll combo, which came with a side of fries. I did have to pay a little extra to upgrade to sweet potato fries, which was a bit of a surprise. The sandwich itself was buttery, the bread was soft, and the lobster portion was reasonable. The price felt a little on the higher side, so a few more pieces of lobster would have been nice. I attended an Elite Yelp event on 01/21/25 at approximately 3:00 pm. So this review is based solely on my experience on this day. The ambiance is super casual and probably a bit noisy during peak hours. Alcohol is available, beer, wine, bottled coconut water, sparkling water, kombucha and canned soft drinks. The restaurant is located in a strip mall with plenty of parking. Handicap parking is available near the front entrance. This location has outdoor seating, which is a nice feature when the weather is pleasant. This location had the option of placing an order via a kiosk or with a cashier. Since this was my first time here, I opted to use the cashier option. My cashier was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. My Elite Yelp event included a free entree, taco and soft drink. Based on the cashier recommendation, I order the Mediterranean Tilapia Grill Plate, Fish Taco and a Strawberry Mint Mediterranean Tilapia Grill Plate: unfortunately I was served the Mediterranean Tilapia Bowl. So my review will be for the bowl. It included the following ingredients: 1-Piece of Grilled Tilapia, Avocado, Tahini Sauce, Kalamata Olive Salsa, White Rice, Chopped Kale, Seasoned Tomato & Feta, Diced Rosemary-Zucchini, Pickled Onions, Lime Vinaigrette. You are able to pick your rice base (white, brown or cauliflower rice), remove/add ingredients. I really liked this feature, to customize the dish to my liking. I did not remove/add ingredients to my dish. The bowl was delicious and would definitely order again. The zucchini was fork-tender and not over cooked. Avocado was fresh and ripe. The chopped kale was equally fresh and seasoned to perfection. I highly recommend this dish. The battered fish taco was so delicious. Crispy fish, not greasy or oily. Toppings consisted of cabbage, pickled onions, cilantro, diced tomatoes and a cream sauce in a yellow corn tortilla. A tomatillo green salsa and a red salsa were served with the taco. Unfortunately, neither salsa were spicy but they did have good flavor and tasted fresh. I also highly recommend this dish. The Strawberry Mint Juice was so good, not overly sweet, a bit tart. I would definitely order and recommend this beverage. I paid full price for this item since it's technically not a soft drink. The restaurant was clean and as customers were leaving, staff would clear off tables. Overall, I would definitely recommend this restaurant and I look forward to trying some other menu options. read more

Ok this place is awesome! Stopped by for dinner today around 5pm and they got super busy after I placed my order. After about 10 minutes, my order was out and I couldn't believe how fresh and awesome my meal was. I ordered the Talapia Fish plate and the grilled Fish Taco, honestly both were so good! The talapia plate was huge! Fish was fresh and grilled to perfection. Would have to rate the dish a 8 out of 10. The grilled fish taco was also very good and would have to rate that a 8.5 out of 10. Service was great as they came to check on us as we dined and asked if we needed anything to which we super appreciated. Menu is unique and if your a seafood fan your in for a treat. Had a great first visit to California Fish Grill! I ordered the battered fish tacos and they were deliciou! They were crispy on the outside, flaky and tender on the inside, with fresh toppings that tied it all together perfectly. I paired it with a pineapple cream soda, which was incredible I hadn't tried before. My server, Sarah, was great! She was friendly, attentive, and made sure everything came out just right. After a not so-pleasant experience in the past here, came back again and this time had some shrimp tacos instead of my previous order. Companion had fish tacos. With a side of sweet potato fries to share. I am so glad I gave CFG another chance. The tacos, though quite messy to eat, were very tasty and the sweet potato fries were perfectly cooked, unlike the last time we went when they seemed dry and just reheated. It was not good. I ordered a grilled ahi tuna steak, spinach and feta salad, and two grilled shrimp tacos. Tuna steak was ordered medium rare and came out well done, and was so unbelievably dry. Flavor was okay, but it got muddled because i had to drink water to swallow it. Shrimp tacos had good flavor, but it was citrus on the shrimp on top of tomatoes on top of citrus in the sauce on top of pickled onions, and it was so much acid that it was overwhelming. One big acid bomb. Employee repeatedly had to ask the same questions about my order to get it straight, then they prepared our food to eat in when we said to go. Been a fan of the quality since they did a Yelp elite event here at the beginning. My personal favorite thing to buy here is their roasted brussel sprouts. I will get that every time if I have the chance! Their fish selection can be quite good, though depending on the fish depends on how much fish you get. Some fillets feel smaller than others. Friend and I tried to share last time and it didn't quite work out. I think I could eat a whole serving size here while at others I can only eat half. Serving staff is good, always accommodating. Everyone that wasn't preparing food was cleaning and it showed. I ordered a few different things to try and was really happy with what I received. Fish and Chips were perfectly cooked and I added sweet potato fries which were cooked just right. Had coconut shrimp, which were a little overcooked, but still flavorful and had an amazing dipping sauce with them. Tried a grilled Mahi Mahi combo also, and was pleased with the entire plate. Fish was great and rest of plate was worth the price. The only thing I would say was a little weird is the kale slaw, which is their take on coleslaw. Kinda odd, but extra points for trying to get us to eat our vegetables in a way that is different than other places! Still probably wouldn't get it again. We used the kiosk which was pretty user friendly, there was one thing that with ordering a combo we hadn't selected a drink and it wouldn't let us continue and it wasn't immediately apparent what choice we hadn't made. But, the food was amazing! The fish and chips was some of the best breaded fish I've ever had. It was flaky and the breading was crispy even after taking it to go. The fries did not survive as well, but the flavor was still really good just a smidge soggy. My daughter really enjoyed the chicken and fries and my son inhaled the Cajun tacos. The fries were well seasoned and the kale slaw had a nice fresh crunch to it. The Hawaiian Shrimp Trio combo came with coconut shrimp, Hawaiian Shrimp and 2 giant shrimp grilled. Each one was good in its own way. My favorite was the Hawaiian! Such a good flavor! The service was quick, you order and counter and they text you when your food is ready. The dynamite shrimp bowl was also good at first but after a couple more bites, there was just a certain taste that I didn't like about it. It might be the cilantro or cabbage or sauce but overall, still a good dish. It's not the food, it's me LOL. Service was good and quick. I have been eating here for a while and noticed the food quality diminishes. The taco ingredients are rarely consistent; the cook added a swivel of mayonnaise to my chicken taco today. I also don't like that they lay out the food in front of the paying customers. It's really gross because sometimes the customers ordering on the kiosk are either sneezing or coughing on the food. In other locations in Southern California, there is glass that protects the food. Also, the mango drink has been completely watered down for a while now. Atrocious customer service from Brenna. Eat here if you want to see naked people jay walking through the windows. I called the restaurant and spoke to their most qualified manager, asking for a copy of my receipt from a visit a few days ago. I provided the following info: - Name - Date - Time - The 3 items in the order - The exact bill amount - Card type Brenna still failed to find the receipt, and spoke to me very disrespectfully. Called me derogatory words, and said "i dont know what you want me to do" (find the receipt with the information I provided, please..). I wasn't able to finish my food because of the portion, so come hungry. The 2nd time I got the Cajun shrimp tacos and that was sooo delicious too. My husband got the salmon tacos and we swapped 1 taco so I could try the salmon taco and now I don't know what's my favorite. Both the corn and flour tortilla both taste homemade and that's always a plus. I definitely want to come back to try other items. I hope this place is here to stay, Bakersfield needs more seafood options. If you're like me and you don't like to wait for your order then you can sign up online. When you sign up there's an option for pick up or delivery. The delivery is the only downside to the website since DoorDash charges less. That's not something that would make me not come back though because I have no probably picking it up. Take out is the best in town if you order online or call ahead. My To-Go orders are always ready and waiting on a stainless steel shelf next to the order counter every time. I just grab and go and off I go! If the food is not go your liking for online orders, ( Online orders from Google!) You can do a simple survey to get it amended.
