I chose this company based on the call I had before my mom passed, with Marna, the daughter, whose parents started the company.

They really seemed to care about what they do. Mortuary staff were honest with pricing and walked us through everything, taking their time to ensure we understood. At the viewing, they did such a beautiful job. Our loved one's coloring was really natural and she looked so peaceful. I really appreciate the team for helping us through the process.

With her being out of state and her father's death being health related he was released to my custody. The only mortuary I could think off was the one in Poway that I have passed for 40 years. As a nurse helping prepare the body for transport was nothing new. This time it was an honor to stay and see our dear friend off. We told his daughter the stories we shared while waiting for another transporter to arrive. Everything was done with dignity and respect. The driver said he noted that his young daughter would want to see him so he could be prepared. His daughter arrived that night and call the mortuary. She said they told her they were very busy and had a lot of deceased coming in. She was told she could come to say her goodbyes on Monday morning. Having just lost my father recently, I to flew in and need to say good bye to my favorite person on this earth, my dad. He suffered from Parkinson's for the last five years. When I went to him he never looked better. He looked so honorable and sharp ready for god. I was so comforted by how good he looked and it was not a viewing it was just me. This young daughter would not have the same experience I had in Virginia. Malissa told her he was in his natural state. How would anyone not in the industry know what that meant. She said he had blood in his nose and blood coming from his ears. His face was smashed. I unzipped the bag to hold his hand, it was covered in blood. She was hysterical. This is the last image she has of her father. Beyond heartbreaking. I called Malissa to say WTF. Malissa she told his daughter what state he was in "natural state" said she said he was cleaned up. His daughter will never unsee what she saw. Because I supported her going to see him I feel guilty that her goodbye was nothing like mine. NOTHING. I looking up trauma therapist in her home state now. Flipping through the folder Poway Mortuary gave her with hand written notes about an open casket, flowers and merchandise. I feel sick. In Virginia this is done on a separate day. Do not send a young person there by them selves. This place or any place for that matter. No one should go alone ever. It's overwhelming enough. You grow up fast when you lose a parent but she is and always will be daddy's little girl.

Note that the parking is along the street (two hour limit). I doubt they would ticket you, though. You could also park at the Escondido library.

Losing my mom was one of the most painful experiences of my life, but the kindness and care we…read morereceived from this mortuary helped carry us through it in a way I'll never forget. From the very beginning, Thomas and Jodi treated us and my mother with gentleness, dignity, and deep respect. Jodi was exactly the person we needed to guide us through the difficult paperwork and the emotional process of choosing the final items for my mom's goodbye. She made it feel manageable, even when it felt like the world was falling apart. Thomas... I don't even have words for how grateful I am for him. He has a gift, he can read a room with so much grace and compassion. On one of the worst days of my life, he made things bearable somehow. He honored my mom as a vessel that carried her spirit, and he was deeply respectful of our traditions. He's a truly special person, and I will never forget his presence during that time. I hope I don't have to return for a long time, but when the time does come again, I wouldn't trust anyone else with the sacred task of preparing a loved one for the next world. This place and its people are a blessing during such a difficult time.

Instead of having the family burdened with additional responsibilities when his time comes- it was great to see him being proactive. And honestly, a huge relief, in my opinion. Back then, and to this present day- he's been living in a facility that takes care of his daily needs. So, when I got his phone call that a representative from Featheringhill Mortuary would make the drive to him and get the paperwork started- pops requested my presence as well. So, I brought this up to my momma- (parents have been divorced for 30 years & actually have a friendship still). And she asked to be present as well, with pops approval. Had a representative not made the visit to his facility- we would have rented a mobility van, which isn't cheap to make such arrangements. The FM representative was patient and forthcoming when it came to explaining services, what to expect when payment is made, and why we would receive paperwork from a life insurance company. Since the arrangements have been accommodated for pops- momma has been interested in getting something very similar to his policy. As the years passed by, I have procrastinated in setting up the appointment for momma. We finally set one up and went to their location. I asked if they could retrieve pop's policy and we can piggyback on his arrangements. The FM rep was patient with momma, who has trouble at times understanding the English language. Her appointment took an hour. We didn't feel rushed at all. We booked our appointment first thing in the morning. Parking lot in the back, with some of the stalls looking very cramped. And off street parking on El Cajon Blvd. I'm most likely going to make my arrangements with FM very soon as well.

Paul, the mortuary director, went far above and beyond anything we expected. From the very beginning, he took on the overwhelming task of communicating with multiple concerned family members, easing confusion and helping everyone stay informed. That alone lifted a huge burden from us. What truly stood out was his willingness to meet our family where we were--both emotionally and physically. He personally visited the home of our loved one and gently guided family members through decisions that felt impossible at the time. Even when there was hesitation or uncertainty, Paul remained patient, kind, and deeply understanding. His knowledge and honesty were invaluable. He carefully explained the realities and consequences of delaying arrangements, but always did so with compassion and respect. In many ways, he became more than a mortuary director--he was like a social worker, helping our family come together, find clarity, and ultimately reach a place of peace and resolution. During one of the hardest moments of our lives, Paul brought calm, dignity, and guidance. We are truly grateful for his dedication and humanity, and we highly recommend Featheringill Mortuary to any family in need of support and care.
