I went here starting July of 2023.... it was a critical time in my life. while the staff was amazing, there were two people who impacted me the most. Mrs Gardiner and Ms Alice. Mrs G just made learning fun and east and she looked out for her students. Ms Alice on the other hand also cared about the students at the school. Still til this day she asks me about myself and my sister. She always checks in and when it came to me finding a job she always had a lead. I personally want to thank Ms Alice for all her help and support throughout this journey whether it was a check up or giving advice. I reached out to North-West College in Long Beach to get information about their Pharmacy Technician program. I spoke with admissions and was given the tuition details and overall cost. After reviewing everything, I felt the program was much more expensive than I expected. I ended up enrolling in a tuition-free Pharmacy Technician program through a local adult school instead. I am a current student and finishing my last term before I go into externship. I can't say enough good things about the DMS program. Ms. Morgan started my experience here and Ms. A became our permanent instructor for both class and lab. During lab, we had all 3 instructors Ms. Morgan, Ms. A, and Ms. Wu. I attended the weekly lab that they offer every Thursday for students to attend and excel in their scanning. The instructors were patient, they were kind and most of all they always aimed for me to be the best that I could be so that I was prepped and ready for externship. Communicating with them came easy whether it was emails I was sending over the weekend, or in person when I was struggling with understanding the material. When it came to Miss Wendy, she has been so busy with running back and forth from both Long Beach and Anaheim campuses, I have no idea how she has the time and patience for all of us. She's always super positive and it's been really easy to approach her and talk to her as well. Right now Miss Wendy and I have been putting together the resume that I will be using to apply for jobs after my externship. This program was HARD but the instructors are always there to help. I feel a great sense of gratitude that I took a chance on myself and went back to school after my 30's and done having kids. My journey to becoming an LVN wasn't traditional--I'm a first-generation Latino graduate and nurse , a father, and someone who once worked in warehouses thinking school wasn't for me. But with support from my wife and kids, couple of friends and family I found the courage to start with a CNA course, and later enrolled in the VN program. Balancing fatherhood, work, and school was tough, but worth it. My instructors challenged me, and I learned that asking questions is key--something I wish I did more often. The program was humbling, and it prepared me to serve my community with compassion and skill. I'm proud to say I'm now a licensed vocational nurse. This school does not care about students or their education -- they make constant mistakes, and trying to get help or speak to someone to fix an issue is nearly impossible. It feels like trying to reach the President of the United States just to get a simple answer. They ignore emails, fail to take accountability, and destroy your educational progress with the same errors they themselves create. The lack of communication and support is beyond frustrating. I'm only finishing my program because I've come too far to quit, but I would never return here or recommend this school to anyone. RUN... An absolute scam of a school with incompetent teachers and an administration full of theatrics to lead you on so you are obligated to pay them more. I had the luxury of paying them $1,100 just to go through their "Seminar of Success" introduction course just to see if I qualify for the LVN course. I quickly realized how terrible the teachers were but I was convinced to stay by the administration to at least see more of the course. Well, that was beyond the refund date, and they have the audacity to charge a full month of "classes" for what was a glorified arithmetic refresher. It isn't a class where they teach you anything, it is literally part of a process to select who proceeds to the actual LVN course, you don't even have a guarantee to get in. You're paying over $1,000 to see if you even get into this terrible school. FYI: i dropped while having the highest entry score and having completed all assignments, I was 100% certain of getting into the program, I dropped because beyond the nice facilities and smiles of the administration, I was not willing to spend $40,000 on this poor level of education and absolutely bewildering level of gaslighting from the teacher. Halfway through the 1 month course (3 classes a week), I realized this school's teachers are incompetent at teaching basic algebraic principles while gaslighting students that have trouble understanding (the teacher basically wrote incoherent scribbles on a PowerPoint while mumbling "just do this, and this"). She told us that it is our fault for not understanding the material and this is just the "rigors of medical school". The teacher also had quizzes with content that was not covered in any of the classes or media provided, but doubled down on every inconsistency while there were literally a dozen students complaining about the lack of consistency or transparency on what is covered on the tests vs the class (We had a quiz for section 1 with materials from section 5). I filed several complaints regarding this teacher to the administration and they basically told me "we'll look into it". Well, nothing happened, she never acknowledged her errors, and continued to justify all of her inconsistencies with "this is just how the medical field is". Well I sure hope the medical field isn't a bunch of poorly explained concepts and straight up lying about material that is covered or not. You cannot gaslight 60 people in a room and think you get away with it? Either way, after several weeks of complaints and nothing being done by the administration, I decided it was time for me to leave and use my money else where. This is a private school with a tuition of $40,000. You're being sold on the quality of the facilities being nice, but oh boy, the quality of education here is absolutely the worst I have ever seen in my life. I've never seen such a maliciously incompetent teaching staff in my life. I will take an incompetent but supportive teacher, I might take a competent but mean teacher, but nobody should have to pay for an incompetent and malicious teacher. The cherry on top is being charged a full month of tuition for only attending 3 weeks of a course that isn't even teaching you anything, it is a selection process, you aren't even officially in the program. Finally able to write a review since I got a job- not with the help of career services because they didn't help at all. Long story short: would I recommend this school for surgical technology? Sure, I guess, the other options are not any better and have packed classes. -The surgical technology program here is very competitive and kick students out if they fail exams (which is a good thing, it shows how serious people are and you're not stuck in classes with people who aren't sure if they want to do this or not). Overall it was an okay experience. Mrs Duran is an actual angel of a human being and cares so much for all her students, Mrs Gardiner (who isn't there anymore) did a good job going in depth about surgeries and ran a good teaching program and Mrs Marcy was pretty cool as well, always just one text away and understanding of us if we had problems arise. -The problems: we had to do 4 months of "general education" classes which was a MASSIVE SCAM. Complete waste of time! These classes had absolutely nothing to do with anything related to surgical technology- not even medical rated! They were on zoom as well which made it worse, I believe it was just a huge money grab. There is no other possible reason, just a money grab. They say it's necessary but it's not (they lie a lot and use scare tactics). The overall cost was around 40k, and 4 months of our time we were writing essays about mermaids and doing show & tells. Mind you ... we are all adults in the classes, well passed high school education- we had not a single purpose to take these ridiculous classes besides to pay more money in order to graduate. -The anatomy portion was taught thoroughly, and the sterile techniques and stuff we actually need to know for the field. They have a great amount of instruments to learn about too which is a huge plus for the field. I will say, the anatomy book we learn in class had NOTHING to do with the tests because the tests were from some third party test bank.... Do yourself a favor & make besties with Quizlet because what you study from the book WILL NOT BE ON THE TEST. I can't be any more straight forward about this -They have no idea what's going on with the money. We paid cash- no loans or anything, and it was a through a third party "tuition options". I guess they never communicated with each other or something because although we paid on time- north west still sent letters in the mail saying I didn't pay. I had to constantly email tuition options and make sure the money was through. After we paid it off- 100% paid off, letters and emails saying we were done- I went to the administrator to sort something out and she springs up that we owe $2100???? FOR THE DOWNPAYMENT? A down payment should be done BEFORE starting .... Not 3 months before graduation. I'll have no idea why it was never brought up before, especially establishing that we were already done with our payments. -Nothing was organized, including the money problems, but especially with our homework's and documents needed. I understand Mrs Marcy was thrown into a role when it was busiest, but instead of giving a checklist of what we needed for clinicals it was "do you have this paperwork and this bloodwork??? I need it NOW or else you'll lose your spot in clinicals!". Every other day. Literally, to everybody, everything was extremely last minute, followed with an infamous threat of not graduating or losing our spot in the clinicals. We also had to do a ridiculous amount of paperwork- which never even got graded and didn't count towards anything- thrown at us a day before. I'm talking like filling out 3-essay like papers every single day and making sure to bring them to campus. Half the class lied on the papers anything but regardless, it was ridiculous how much stuff was sprung on us. -you don't really learn anything good until you're at the hospital clinical sites ... but it is what it is -the college & career service lady doesn't help at all. They threatened us saying we won't graduate if we don't send her our resume- which had to be in a form so she can edit it ??? She didn't do anything with our resumes. You would think people in the field working here knew somebody in a hospital or something to connect us to a job but NOPE. I was denied everywhere because of lack of experience and the career services lady just emailed us a "congrats on passing your exam, here's some links to apply at some hospitals" and sent some hospitals links that all only want people with experience lol. read more

I attended the Surgical Tech program at NWC-LB. I honestly really enjoyed the program. The teachers are so amazing especially Mrs. Gardiner she teaches everything so well. She prepares you so well for clinicals and for real surgery life. I got hired less than a month after receiving my certification at a Level 2 trauma center. I get great feedback from the Dr's they always assume I have years of experience even though I'm a new grad. I can confidently say that the school prepared me so well. But! My experience here at this site has been quite the journey to say the least. When I started they were very unorganized and not as helpful but the surveys about the school usually addressed our complaints. Except supplies, as an MA student our class would always lack supplies making it very hard to practice blood work. Aside from that there were specific teachers and staff that made my experience a lot better!! For starters my MA teacher Ms. Karla Taub who really put in her time to help her students and also Ms. Karla from career services who helped me obtain my externship site and made sure I had everything on track for graduation. It is now four months after I've graduated from the surgical tech program, and I still have never regretted a decision more in my life than attending this campus' surgical technology program. First, I want to say, a BIG thank you to Ms June for helping me throughout the process to get my pharmacy tech license! She walked me through everything and helped me when I needed/asked for it. If it wasn't for her, I would've quit from the beginning of the course. She's an amazing teacher! When I signed up, they hyped up the teacher (Ms Kelly) but when I was actually starting the program, they failed to tell me she had quit so I had different teachers and subs. Never had a stable one thru out the 9 months course! I paid off the monthly down payment but according to them, there was no record but luckily I kept every receipt for record from that school! I highly recommend keeping every receipt because this happened to a lot other students as well! There were no supplies to practice on, we made request to the school multiple times and not once did they listen. Then we went thru different school directors subs and they weren't helpful neither since Suguey quit! Which, I am glad she did because she was the worst person with the ugliest attitude! Once I completed my SOS and courses, they removed me from the graduation list TWICE! Because according to them, they had no record of any payments, no record of prefect attendance, no record of me completing my extern hours! They don't care for student status, certification are not turned in on time to students. They are held back because of instructors are not there to teach, one teacher cancelled class because she had to go home. On hand lab was never equipped with medical equipment needed for lab. Director and staff are useless, only there to make money of off people who are trying to better their situation. They aren't even nationwide licensed to provide better chance for student to receive certification/license for them to work in hospitals. They are a fraud. Good thing I stopped payments before I gave away too much. Do your research before signing anything with this school. If possible look for a better school. I want to share my experience at Northwest College in Long Beach. Initially, I signed up with Monica, who was my first contact. I specifically asked if phlebotomy certification was included in the MA program, and she assured me it was. However, after starting the program, I realized you are taught the basics of phlebotomy, but you will not receive a phlebotomy certificate. The school should clarify this because obtaining phlebotomy certification requires enrolling in another program at a different school and paying an additional $2,000. Transparency about what the school actually offers is crucial, which can be seen as false advertising. The MA program provides an MA certificate only, but NWC does offer the CMA test to become certified MA (CMA) (you can go elsewhere also for the test). Johanna informed me about this test, which she told me would be a great benefit to receive this certification, which would give me more career opportunities to work at a hospital, etc. I was never told by anyone else at NWC that this test was offered by them, costing about $125 initially, and if you do not pass, there is another fee to retake the test which is standard anywhere you go. Our instructor, Ms. Avendano, did a commendable job managing the large number of students despite the challenge of introducing new batches of students every four weeks. Ms.A deserves a pay raise for her everlasting patience with the students. However, the school's frequent changes in procedures, such as clocking in and submitting work, could be better managed with additional instructors and staff who know what is going on with the constant changes the students have to deal with, In my opinion, there should be two instructors one for new students and one for senior students. After completing the program, some of us faced issues with our attendance records due to a system change and our work needing to be transferred correctly to the new or upgraded system they merged to. It was frustrating to constantly chase the staff to correct our records so we could proceed to the externship. During the externship, we met with student advisors such as Miguel and Johanna, who were generally helpful and responsive. However, dealing with Karla in student services was difficult due to her bad attitude and reluctance to address student questions. According to Karla, other NWC staff need more training and need to know what they are doing, which is very unprofessional. When I raised these concerns with the campus director, it took about two weeks, an email (my email was in his spam email, apparently), and two phone calls to receive a response. Overall, my experience at NW College was just mediocre. Considering the inconsistencies and issues, the program is not worth the amount they charge. read more

Pt2 Test that we need. I was told that graduation was in November and anybody that is already done with the program would graduate. I asked about graduation recently and she said it's in October and the deadline was September 15 to sign up and they never informed me about that. I was also told that you have to finish your SOS hours to graduate you also had to start with your extern hours but you can't start your extern hours without having to finish SOS. As of now, I can't finish SOS due to a little bout so that means I can't start my extern hours and I will be put behind more. I won't be able to graduate until next year in April. School fails to adequately prepare students for externships and is unresponsive when assistance is needed. The school falsely claims that we have not made a payment, despite having done so. I was going to drop from the program the moment the old instructor left, but I never did because I was almost done with the program I've had multiple classmates drop we used to have a class of 8 or 10. Then 3 students dropped we had a class of 4. After our old instructor left, we barely had any labs. I would personally have to ask our sub to do things such as make IV bags and capsules. Half of the time we were in the lab we would just sit there on our phones or just talk with one another we weren't learning and still aren't. I wish I had read the reviews before enrolling in the School. There has been nothing but negative things since I've been here. The School Director does not answer her emails they lag on everything when you ask for information about certain things. They say that you can get your license within 3 to 4 months which is a lie they take a year to give it to you, so how do they want us to be successful in our careers if they can't even give us our license? Here's a second update to this review since I finished school there has been more negative stuff and more pushbacks to getting my license and graduation. Once I finished my extern hours I got all the paperwork needed for them to send out my license. When I was doing my query, it got here in the mail and I took it to the school. They didn't send it out until it had expired, and I had to redo it and pay for it myself when the school should've paid for it. That pushed me back on getting my license even more than they had already pushed back. Graduation on the other hand they were fighting me because they were saying I didn't have perfect attendance, but not once that I ever miss online class or a lab. With that being said, I was told I was on the graduation list when I got to the school to pick up my cap and gown I wasn't on the list. They wanted me to pay the remaining balance. I owe the school to graduate. But I fought them because why would I pay and not be able to graduate or get my license at that? A couple of days later from that incident, I got a call saying they would give me my tickets and I was going to be able to walk. I, and everyone else i know that went to this school, has had the WORST experience . We are promised all of these amazing opportunities and an open door policy but once you finish, you realized not only were empty promises made , but now then they are a hassle to get a hold of when trying to obtain your license. Long Beach campus specifically , the turnover rate is so high that your personal files will be lost due to mishandling, phone calls never returned then they blame you for not being available at their convenience , threatened to not walk across stage . If I can give this school a zero I would. I graduated in 2021 and still have yet to receive my license. This is not even an accreditated school for me to have to deal with this. I went up to the school concern about my license, since my peers I graduated with received there's and I have yet to receive mine. When I went to the school... I provided my name and they informed me they do not have any record of me graduating. The only note they had left for me was that I turned in my license documents. I have to start the process ALLLL OVERR AGAIN !!!! I have been trying to get in contact with Emily and June so I can schedule my self query again and no one has responded to my emails AT ALL!! I went up to the school today to do my livescan AGAIN and was told they will be leaving at 12:30pm by receptionist. I have work so I was only available at this time. LIVESCAN LEFT EARLY AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO TAKE MY LIVESCAN. They asked me to drive all the way to Riverside to get my livescan and I refused. They informed me the next live scan would not be until early next year. Mind you they lost my paperwork and I have to put in all the work to make sure they get everything right so this won't happen again. I am a young adult who is 24 years old and this has prevented me from getting a new job, my annual raises, and preventing me to exceed in my career. I have to call off of work so I can find time to figure this out when this should have been done a long time ago. I am immensely upset with this school and do not recommend ANYONE TO GO HERE!! this has happened throughout the years with this school losing people paperwor. The best decision ever made was to enroll to this school. Being able to go back to school and receive the amazing support and help from my instructor is honestly the best feeling in the world. I enrolled in the pharmacy tech program and Mrs. Kelly is by far the most nicest instructor I've ever met. She makes sure that you understand every lesson and is there to guide you in the right direction just in case you feel overwhelmed. Going to class is always a fun and enjoyable time. Thank you, NorthWest! Thank you to the staff who helped me every step of the way. I completed an 18-month surgical program... the best decision I made. From my experience, I feel like I was well prepared for this career. The teachers are phenomenal and are truly passionate about teaching. Mrs. Duran is a great teacher, and she cares about her students. Mrs. Gardiner is very funny and will make learning fun. My success is theirs, too! Ms. Briñones-the campus director, is awesome and always carries a cheerful attitude towards the students... She's super cool Also, Chris at financial aid...he will always make you feel welcome and is there to help So, I highly recommend this school to anyone who wants to make a difference within themselves. read more

Hello!! wow it's been 4 years since I've made a review about Northwest college. Well I've had a successful career in the pharmacy technician field. I was hired the day after graduation from a pharmacy that northwest referred me to and did my hours there! Although pharmacy technician was fun and pays very well, I wanted to expand my knowledge and hopefully open a business of my own as a goal! This school has many connections and good relationships with different medical facilities, which supply great opportunities for their students. I am now back at northwest for Diagnostic Medical Sonography. (Ultrasound technician) I've been helped by everyone I approach at this school and truly a proud student of NWC. This is now my third time trusting the school with my future! For DMS, I was helped by monica & Laura, they both made the process of enrolling quick and easy with all of my questions answered. They both make time to answer any questions you have before and after enrollment. Not going to lie, I was very nervous about coming back and starting over, but Monica and Laura both made me feel at home and comfortable about taking on DMS! I'm barely 3 months in with Ms. Mousavi! She's a great instructor and very detailed with what she teaches the class. It's very easy to pick up the subjects because she ensures no one is confused and if so, she will go back and help or offer to attend her tutoring. If you're looking for a school that will treat every student as a priority then North West College- Long Beach is for you!
