Just like you, we were thinking to ourselves, "who are we going to TRUST to completely clear out an existing backyard to the earth and build a paradise oasis that only we can dream and vision in our minds?" We called Shasta Pools, Presidential Pools & Spas, and California Pools & Landscape to schedule an onsite consultation. Shasta Pools never contacted us, but we did get a call to schedule an onsite appointment with both Presidential Pools and California Pools for Friday, June 30, 2023. On the same day, I met with Karin Tierney (Backyard Design Specialist) from Presidential Pools and Christian Pierre (Designer) from California Pools. After the initial visit (June 30th), I never heard back from Karin Tierney of Presidential Pools, not one follow up or anything. Christian from California Pools immediately emailed me two days later with images for ideas and started creating our paradise oasis. Christian Pierre was professional, engaged, listened to our stories and dreams, asked us open-ended questions and his communication was excellent. Within a week, Christian presented us a video of the first pool designed. We made some minor changes and then he presented us the final video that turned our vision into a digital paradise oasis. I couldn't believe it, the video was literally what we visioned and dreamed, but the cost was above what we expected. We reminded ourselves, "You only live once." If this home is going to be our last, we don't want any regrets or future projects later, lets do this project right one last time. We said, "Let's Go!" We confirmed the project with California Pools and shortly after, we were introduced to Stephen Dreher (Lead Construction Manager). Stephen was a gentleman, very easy to talk to, a great listener, and a professional who follows through with action. Demolition started February 2024. Throughout the 2024 year, various construction teams came in to do their part of the project. Stephen kept in touch with me weekly with updates and seeking any questions from me. He was ALWAYS available via text, phone calls and in person. We made some changes during the project and Stephen was on top of processing Change Orders and updating the construction teams. Neighborhoods are made up of many types of people, and even with HOA approvals and city permits, you will find out which neighbors enjoy complaining and making it known that they are not happy people. No worries though, with Stephen's professional confidence and patience, he presented himself to these neighbors to answer any questions or address their concerns. Once he made himself available to these party poopers, the complaints lessened. After 12 months of construction, the pool project came to an end February 2025. I have to admit that making the decision to have California Pools & Landscape take on this project was one of the best decisions we ever made. The entire team that makes California Pools operate are ALL professionals and experts at what they do. The third party construction teams that work with California Pools were all professionals, execute precision work, and clean up their work when done. Stephen Dreher was in communication with all third party teams. Having the pool of our dreams seen on a video and built in our very own backyard is a dream come true. California Pools has converted our beautiful backyard (Casita Talasera) to "The Happiest Place On Earth." I will never say it enough though, THANK YOU Stephen Dreher for standing by our side from start to finish. Thank you for your honesty. This is my second pool and yard designed and built by California Pools and Landscape. I started out in the design with Cody Risdon, who then left the company. Cody did most of my design, but Doug Lillis refined it and helped finalize it. Both designers were fantastic and drew out exactly what I had in my mind. My construction manager was Jordan Thrasher, whom I worked with on my first pool. Jordan was very busy but always responded very promptly when I had a question or needed reassurance that things would work out and end up being the way I wanted. I am fussy and Jordan patiently worked with me to be sure I was happy with the results. Sara Dougan was my project scheduler. She is a dream to work with, extremely helpful, friendly and several times went over and above the call of duty to help me when I needed things moved around. Sara also worked with me on my first pool, and she remembered me when she saw my name this time around. My pool and 90% of my yard was done in 10 1/2 weeks from dig to pool filling. Everything would have been done in 8 weeks but I lost 2 1/2 weeks due to rain and waiting for my yard to dry out in the very rainy winter that Phoenix had in December 2023, January and February 2024. I am absolutely thrilled with the way my yard turned out. It is exactly what I wanted it to be like. I recommended California Pools to my friends and they have been very happy with the company as am I. Our entire experience with California Pools was very frustrating and we wish we wouldn't have wasted our time with them. The initial meeting was satisfactory, but they took an exorbitant amount of time providing us with a design for our project. We are very busy and California Pools didn't want to move forward without us taking more time out of our day to schedule another in-person appointment. In the end, we were left with a rudimentary YouTube video of our project, no actual designs or schematics, and no pricing. Arizona has other pool companies that don't have these absurd policies and demands. I recommend trying someone else, because California Pools doesn't seem to be interested in customer satisfaction. read more

Although it feels like it took quite a while to get a pool in my backyard, It was really really wonderful to see it come to fruition. The office staff was completely engaged and always came out scheduled times to review everything. The quality and workmanship is outstanding. In fact, it is better than my new home build from the builder! The salesman, Doug Lillis, is fantastic at his job. He was very responsive all of the time. Also, Dustin was so helpful and came out as well to attend to things. We are absolutely thrilled with the project. I was nervous about getting my first pool so I did my research and found CA Pools. My neighbor also recommended them as they just finished his pool. I had my appt for design and wanted nothing but a rectangle hole in the ground. No fireworks, lazer shows or flowing lava fountains. I had an amount in mind but the estimate came in over that. I told them I wanted to do it but that was just too much. They re-worked some of the design elements to get me where I wanted to be. I Didn't want to waste money on landscaping so I just wanted rock put down. I can plant plants on my own. With their app, they're in constant communication with you through your build which was extremely nice. Every question or concern was addressed All employees I have dealt with have been great and can't say enough about them. I had one issue with a wet spot in the shotcrete that would never dry, that could've been addressed quicker--but it was finally addressed. Things took longer than I anticipated due to shortage of shotcrete, but I understood this and I can't count this against them. My build took from Feb-Dec. I know they maybe a lil more pricey than their competitors, but from the reviews I'd rather have it done right. I know a few neighbors that went with other companies that are still waiting to complete their pools coming up on almost 2 years. That's unacceptable. Go with CA pools, you wont regret it. read more

Went in and talked for a while with a representative- he was friendly and helped us design a beautiful pool and backyard. We weren't ready to start but let him know we would be in about a month or two. I got home and emailed a few times asking questions and trying to remove a few "extras" to get the cost down. After about 3 attempts, he responded. But then we NEVER heard anything again. No follow up. Nothing. Had they followed up, we would have definitely gone with them. Lack of communication was a red flag for me. We eventually found a company who had great communication and have started our pool for about $35k less. They didn't not try and upsale all the equipment and use the same brand. We have a small backyard and therefore the pool is small. No need for bigger pump, heater.....I'm glad CA pool didn't follow through. We would have spent a lot of money that didn't need to be spent. read more

I do not recommend using California Pools. We are at month 9 of a 3-4 month build. Started process in July. Communication is terrible and when we asked for upper Management's name and contact information it was not provided and we were given a lengthy excuse regarding weather, which this year in the West Valley has been minimal. Our yard and landscape has not been put back the way they said they would. Our irrigation linens were cut and not accidentally with no resolution. Wrong spill pots were delivered and correct ones that are now installed leak and metal insert fell off into our pool. Pool pump is still leaking and a noticeable leak in yard which they did offer to pay our water bill yet no explanation for the leak in the yard, which makes no sense. Leaks need to be repaired. We do not recommend using California Pools. read more

I bought a Meritage Model Home that CA Pools had completed the waterfall fountain on. I took them to small claims and lost only because a warranty was only valid with the first owner--technically being Meritage. The stackstone tile had completely fallen off in just over 2 years so ROC wouldn't help. I tried working with CA Pools but they said this was a maintenance issue in my end!! I'm in dentistry and understand how sealants and bonding work. Poor customer relations, poor workman and won't be working with them on any future projects. I had their work replaced with a fireplace and that project confirmed shortcuts and a hollow wall was the original work. read more

Not impressed at all. Our yard doesn't look like what it was supposed to. The process started May 2023. It was completed April 2024 so almost a year for a basic pool. In the initial walkthrough I was told if they hit an irrigation line they were not responsible. Well they cut our lines purposely to put the spill pots in which are cracked and leaking. All our plants died and they removed all but 2 and didn't replace. They would not fix. We had issue with tiles loose and cracked as well. They hit our house twice which they fixed. Once the pool was filled it had a leak in the skimmer which they kept telling us it was our irrigation system which was cut and capped! Then they had to drain the pool because our main drain was clogged. I received an email April 17 that said project was completed without even a walkthrough with me and my wife. There is so much more and would not recommend them at all. The spill pot issue is new and dealing with warranty which has done nothing so far. CAL POOLS (Gabe equipment specialist) showed up today to check pool equipment. Gabe covered all concerns and answered all questions clearly putting our minds at ease. He went over backwash procedures, chemical maintenance, and equipment operation, this was all covered on pool completion back in AUG but since we do all upkeep we wanted to be clear on doing everything properly. Overdue review. Project manager stopped by to check if we had any issues since pool completion late AUG 22. We were given a timeline of 9 months with an understanding it could go longer. Everyone at CAL POOL and associated trades did an awesome job at every phase of the project. Thanks to Brian for taking it from and idea to the design. Our construction manager (Jordan Thrasher) was present for every phase of construction, addressed our concerns, explained future phases, and accommodated numerous contract changes. I will first start by saying that the people we have worked with at California Pools are what made us decide to work with them initially, and what kept our spirits high as we watched our existing backyard disappear into a flat dirt field. We met with two other pool companies (Shasta and Caribbean), and California Pools took the cake. We met with the California Pools designer, Doug Lillis, who was amazing to work with on every front. He took us seriously from the start and explained every piece of the puzzle to us in detail. Doug made himself available at all hours, and I am confident that if I gave him a call right now, he would answer or text me stating that he would call back in 10 min (he even fielded a call while away on his honeymoon - IM SORRY and THANK YOU!). Doug's design also included everything that we laid out, and he worked with us within our budget without an ounce of pressure, he really let us drive our ideas and he put them all together - it is beautiful! Another light on the California Pools staff is our project supervisor, Stephen Dreher, who has become our main contact point during the construction process. Stephen is extremely personable and worked with my wife and I like we were friends, he also fielded all of our concerns and questions with grace, even when we were elevated/impatient while watching the process come together. Stephen has been to our site countless times reviewing the work that has been completed, and checking for imperfections - he has also been a wealth of knowledge at these times when I pose questions about the small details like plumbing and wiring functions. Stephen cares about the outcome of the project, and wants it to be perfect for our family! The last California Pools staff that we want to note is, Stephanie Aguirre, who took over the scheduling of our project mid way through. Stephanie is on her game and extremely understanding and compassionate, we noticed when Stephanie took over, the ball rolled much faster! We apricate everyone else that we have worked with as well, but our communications with Doug, Stephen, and Stephanie are the most extensive and we definitely wanted others to know how seriously they take their responsibilities. Our backyard looks INCREDIBLE and my wife and I are beyond excited for the finished product. As of now, our water feature is fully built, the travertine coping is in place, the yard is leveled and the interior pool tile is set (our final steps are laying the remainder of the decking, the turf, and the finishing touches like the pool fence). The scheme and attention to detail in the construction of these items was top notch, and working from home I have spent more time then I would like to admit watching the crews work - my hat goes off to them. All of the crews were extremely clean, courteous, and professional. Moving into more details about timeline, which in my opinion is what is most important - I will say that it has been an up and down battle with the final leg of this process being all up! We signed our contract on October 31st (2022), and we have been given a completion estimation of just prior to July 4th (2023), so 8 months of total time on the nose. This is EXACTLY what we were quoted from the jump when other companies told us 12 months. With the industry shortages, and the TSM plant taking all of the concrete, we had fears that the delays would take longer then expected - we were pleasantly surprised when they shot the concrete in our pool a month and a half early. The next hurdle was the hardscape wait, which we were originally expecting to have bleed over delays from the shotcrete shortage. California Pools let us know that they were in the process of vetting new hardscape crews to mitigate any delays... They were not kidding - a few days later, materials were delivered and crews were out building our design to a T. We were blown away with the exceptional design skills Cody was able to bring to life on a zoom meeting on our very first meeting. Colin Kane who was the supervisor was simply awesome, if companies had more individuals like him we would all be in a better place. Cal Pools completed Phase 1 of our backyard in 2021. The process though not perfect, was a success. Any issue that arose was addressed and resolved with our field Superintendent Jordan Thrasher and the rest of Cal Pools team. Phase 2 - we wanted to install a flush drain in our spa. This required the demo of our spa to relocate the plumbing. With the team of Stephanie Aguirre and Jordan Thrasher, we were able to get this completed minus punchlist within 5 weeks. AMAZING! Demo - Rework plumbing - shotcrete - tile - pebble - clean - fill and enjoy! AMAZING in todays world! Thank You Stephanie and Jordan! I'd like to start out by saying I spent $52,000 with California pools to install my landscaping and a fountain in my new build. In regard to the fountain, I explained to the sales rep I was apprehensive about getting a fountain installed due to the hard water in this area. He assured me that they would install a hard rock that could be cleaned and decalcified in the future. I was assured that the correct type of rock would be installed so that it would withstand cleaning. The rock they installed started to crumble and fall apart while still under warranty. I called and they came out and removed two of the broken deteriorating rocks and replaced the two with granite, which is what I paid for in the first place but that is not what I got. When I asked why they only replaced two rocks with the granite and not ALL of them, knowing full well that the rock installed originally was not the correct kind of rock. The response I received was that those rocks weren't crumbling yet, so they weren't going to replace them. By the time they crumbled, it was no longer under warranty. This issue should have been resolved from the beginning and done correctly. It was not done correctly and they already acknowledged that by replacing only two rocks. All of them should have been replaced with the correct rock that I paid for. Buyer beware this company is unethical and do not deliver as promised and I will not ever use them again. The way they left my fountain is not the best way to advertise for future business. read more
