We had some water damage to the walls around our tub. Even though there were numerous positive reviews on Yelp, I still checked out California Quality Drywall on BBB. The positive reviews, the BBB rating, and the fact that California Quality Drywall was a member of BBB convinced me to call Hugo for a quote. He came out the next day to inspect the damage. He provided me with a fair quote and I decided to hire him. The next day, Hugo came back out and cut out the sections of the drywall that were damaged. I was concerned that there would be water damage in other areas as well. Hugo was patient and agreed to cut out several other sections just to make sure there were no additional damages. Hugo wanted to return a few days later to finish the work. However, I was scheduled to be out of town for about a week. Hugo was willing to work with my schedule and we made arrangements for the work to be finished after I returned. Eugene, Hugo's brother, showed up to install the drywall. He did a wonderful job. Some contractors don't like being watched while they work. As a female and a homeowner, I just want to see what is being done. However, Eugene was very nice about this. He even explained to me what he was doing throughout the process. The knowledge he shared with me convinced me that this is definitely a job for the pros! The work Eugene did was beautiful! After he hanged the drywall, he textured it, and then informed me that another person was coming to paint because he had another project that day as well. The painter was Hugo's brother-in-law. He came with matching paint. However, due to the lighting in the bathroom, the paint color did not look quite right so he asked me if he could paint more wall areas so the colors on the walls would match. He did a good job painting. However, after the painter tape was removed, I noticed that the new drywall section that should have been flushed against the bathtub was not quite flushed. I asked him about it. However, I am not sure if he understood me. He left me the can of paint. After he left, I touched up that section of the wall with the paint and now the wall does look flushed against the tub. Other than that minor paint incident, California Quality Drywall did an excellent job. My husband was very impressed when he got home. Now you cannot tell that there was ever water damage on those walls! Four and a half stars because I should not have had to touch up that small section of the new drywall with paint. However, I rounded up to five stars because Eugene and Hugo were wonderful and the quality of the work is outstanding. read more

When Hugo bid the initial job I thought the quote was a bit high based on the other bids I received and his quote did not include painting. When questioned about the lack of painting Hugo in a very calm, respectful and confident voice looked me in the eyes and said; "I do drywall that's all I do and I'm very good at it. I treat every job as if it was my home and I know you will be very happy." So I decided to let him do the work. Hugo's team lead by Eduardo is the best that I've ever seen. I've overseen several large high end commercial construction projects back east and I'm used to a certain level of quality work which was exceeded. On this job I used them for my personal residence which I am renovating and initially only wanted them to scrape the popcorn ceiling. The work was so exemplary that I decided to have them do a small drywall job for me as well. Again I was left speechless and decided to have them do all drywall work that I had expected to be done by another contractor in addition to other changes that were made to my design plan. Eduardo and his team are very respectful, clean, and even did some extra patching that was not a part of the original quote. Like Hugo I found Eduardo to be very honest in addition to being helpful with design suggestions as well. When he offered a suggestion I would ask if he could do the work and he would always tell me he is the framer and that was his specialty and did not know anyone. In one case he told me he knew someone who could do the job I needed done but could not recommend the person because he was not that good. Based on my experience I will not use anyone other than California Drywall for any project and I will recommend them to as many people as I can. read more

We decided to finally have the acoustic(popcorn) ceilings removed in our home. CA QDS was highly recommended to us, so I called Hugo and set up a date & time for a walk-thru estimate to be done. Eduardo arrived promptly, assessed all the work that needed to be done & gave us a very fair quote. The team arrived on time each day, very pleasant & professional. They spent a great deal of time covering & taping off all areas to be worked on (I especially liked that they laid down heavy duty plastic on all flooring areas they'd be walking on). At the end of each day, the crew cleaned up all their demo & swept the floors. Hugo was very accomodating with our ever-changing schedule, even on short notice, which was extremely helpful. The entire project has been completed with the exception of a small area that can't be done until our contractor finishes some demo work in our kitchen. I'm a very meticulous person and can say I am thoroughly pleased with the finished results! CA Quality Drywall Services went above & beyond my expectations in all areas. We will be using them again for any future drywall needs. If you're tempted to use one of the acoustic removal /drywall companies that advertise very low prices, just remember the old adage: "You Get What You Pay For". Hugo was very friendly and professional. I called to schedule an appointment for him to come over and take a look at our project and to estimate the cost. He came when scheduled and gave us the cost at the same visit. We ended up using a friend for the beginning of a wall demo and doorway sealing project because of convenience, but had to hire Hugo to finish and fix the job. I emailed Hugo some photos of what needed to be done and he got back to us within a few days with the cost. We immediately schedule the job and a few days later, he sent Miguel (showed up 30 minutes early) to fix some of the holes and uneven drywall, and completed it with mud and skip troweling. Within a few hours, the drywall was fixed, mud and skip trowel even and very professionally done. I am a very detailed-oriented person, so went over Miguel's work before he left and found no problems and complaints. I would hire Hugo and his team for any other drywall work we would need in the future. They were also reasonably priced with no quality sacrificed. Also as a bonus, Hugo helped me troubleshoot a switch (on the wall they were working on) that wasn't working. It isn't what they do normally, but was nice enough to help. We just had a great experience with California Quality Drywall. Hugo Pina and Hugo Guttierez helped us repair numerous holes in our drywall made from a plumbing re-pipe, and we could not have been more pleased with the entire experience. Hugo Arreola (the owner) gave us an estimate via e-mailed photographs of the areas needing repair, thus saving us both the hassle of arranging a time to meet. Then, on the appointed day, Hugo P and Hugo G arrived EARLY (how often does that happen with contractors?). They were polite, respectful of our home and property, extremely careful to cover everything within range of any damage, and when they were finished they cleaned everything very thoroughly. The drywall work they did was the best we have had. Our walls are textured with a very difficult-to-match knockdown style, and over the years we have had very mixed results when contractors attempted to match our texture. Hugo P and Hugo G were true craftsmen. Their work matched the existing style beautifully, and they even were able to re-patch an area that had been very poorly patched after a lighting project several years ago. My husband and I were lucky enough to hear great things about California Quality Drywall before we were set to hire someone to put up the drywall in our new addition. Hugo and his employees had been so highly recommended by friends of ours that we didn't even bother calling other businesses for quotes. While it seems a little risky, Hugo and everyone at California Quality Drywall lived up to their rave reviews and did an excellent job at our house. Not only did they complete the job perfectly, on time and for an excellent price, but they were also very respectful of our home and accommodated our schedule. We couldn't be around to let them in on the proposed first day of the job so Hugo said it was no problem for them to push our start day back. These gentleman are highly professional and its' obvious that they enjoy what they do. I popped in at lunch time to check on how the job was going and I could hear them laughing and talking away as they worked. From the amount of work they got done that first day, it's clear that they worked hard and steadily all day. I came across Quality Drywall Services on here last night and emailed Hugo after reading these reviews, everyone is right, I emailed through his website must have been around 11pm and first thing this morning maybe 8.30am Hugo called and arranged to take a look at my job 11am today. 10.58am he actually arrived, assessed the job and said actually alls I needed to do was run a fan on the area for 4hrs and all should be golden. My washing machine over flowed, I realized 5mins after it was over flowing immediately turned it off and cleaned up the mess, downstairsunit beneath us, had water pouring through their smoke alarm, so fast I was surprised. I figured maybe there is damage in our unit also. But fortunate for us there wasn't. Oh and that wasn't the best part Hugo didn't charge a dime for coming out to check. We will use Hugo when we move at the end of the yr when we buy our own house. I have never had a work man say he will be there at a certain time and show up as promised, let alone few mins early. I needed drywall repair to three different areas in my house. The repairs themselves were straightforward with the only tricky part being to match the texture. They were quick the finished product looks fantastic. This was pretty much what I expected. The fee was competitive and the estimate was simple. I emailed photos of the areas needing repair and received a quote in a few hours. They showed up at a day and time convenient to me and exactly on schedule. The surprising part was the cleanup. I expected the drywall repair to be done well but expected to have some cleanup to do when they were done. I was wrong! They took great care to cover everything with plastic and drop cloths to protect the floor and surrounding areas from overspray. Then when they were done they took time to wipe everything down to ensure it was at least as clean as when they arrived. I was very impressed with the quality of work and especially the extra care taken with cleanup. Highly recommend them for any drywall job! I will definitely use them again, if needed. read more

After 19 years in my circa 1979 townhouse, I was sick and tired of the dingy popcorn ceilings. To make matters worse, there was an old water stain near the kitchen. I was afraid, though, that the radiant heat in two of my ceilings would be damaged in the process of stripping the popcorn. Hugo assured me that his team knew how to handle this type of ceiling, and he described in detail the multi-step process. Since the place would be torn apart anyway, I added painting the walls to the scope of work. (One tenacious guy stood on a stepladder the best part of a day removing two layers of wallpaper border. Thank you, Javier!) Phase one was completed in October, phase two (the upstairs) last month. Yes, there was mess, upheaval, a few moments when I wondered what I had gotten myself into. But it was worth it. The price was reasonable, and Hugo's team did a great job. The guys are courteous and dependable. My place is fresh and new again. Don't wait until you decide to sell your place. I just had Hugo and Hugo (yes, two Hugos) leave my house after patching up an approx. 2' x 3' wall that needed to be opened up for a plumbing problem. I was skeptical that anyone would be able to repair it and match the pattern. I was pleasantly surprised! Great job- you can't tell the ceiling's been repaired! Boss Hugo was very helpful and friendly. He answered all my questions and had no problem with me watching the process (it was very interesting to see how they texture the drywall). I definitely recommend using their services. They were highly recommended to me by a plumber and I'm grateful I didn't hire a handyman who may not have had the experience with drywall that Hugo and Hugo did. We selected California Quality because of their very competivtive and fair pricing, the fact that we discovered Hugo and his team previously did fantastic drywall work in our home back in 2003 (we repiped our home), and Hugo's sharing of detailed information and expertise regarding the work that needed to be done. We appreciated that Hugo came out on New Year's to give us a free estimate of the repairs and was able to start the work immediately.
