I puzzled the new place but its still same to me lol. Came in & whoa, it looks somewhat fancy. Host is friendly. Staff looks stay busy to make customers happy is important. Im impressive that place is really clean looks!! But restroom is outside and its still inside of the building. Its weird. Food? Amazing. Dessert? CHOCOLATE SUSHI FOR WIN!!! I stopped by here on a Sunday midday looking for a quick lunch, and when I walked in, it was pretty slow.. maybe only three or four tables. I thought it would be the quick meal we were hoping for. I was with my mom, and we chose to sit at the bar. I ordered a avocado roll, and she went for a raw tuna roll with a side salad, each of us wanting something different... So we expected them to be plated separately, but unfortunately they came out together on the same plate, touching too. I know some sushi places do this, it's not my first rodeo... BUT I thought they might at least check if that was okay to plate a raw fish roll next to a vegetarian roll.. anyway.. While we were waiting for our food, we noticed the staff making the rolls, sneaking bites of food when they thought we weren't paying attention. Meanwhile, we waited a solid 25 minutes for these two lousy, tiny rolls. I'm giving it two stars because our servers were friendly, but the food is definitely overpriced for what you get although everything tasted good. My mom did enjoy that ginger type dressing on the salad and my avocado tasted fresh.. I doubt I'll be back, and this visit pretty much confirmed it for me. read more

So disappointed... me and my friend ordered food to go. We got the moo moo platter for $18.00.. Beef fillet over white rice, brown glaze with sesame seeds. So it looked like I ordered a kiddie portion or a side of it. So small for $18, and the beef was so dry and there wasn't any sauce to it. Good think I order a side of sauce for $1.00 but it didn't help how fry it was. We got 2 sushi rolls, the crabby crab roll for $14.00, let's just say I should of gotten this sushi from our local grocery store for the same quality and half the price. It was so small and the flavor was ok. Nothing great about it at all. And we got the south of the border roll, same price and again so small, not enough in it or on top. I will never go to this place again. It was a rip off. I can get way better sushi and more for the price I paid. The 1 star was for the nice staff when I arrived to pick up my order. read more

I went here today while paying a visit to Ontario beach because I haven't been out this way in a while. The interior has a nice clean atmosphere and my server was polite. Overall, the restaurant itself makes for a nice relaxing water front lunch. However the food was very disappointing. The seaweed salad tasted fine, but the Miso soup did not even taste like Miso. It was very watered down and there were more mushrooms than tofu. The sushi rolls had very little fish compared to rice. I ended up having to pick rice off of my rolls just so I could taste the fish. Once I was done eating, it looked as though I had a whole side of rice on my plate. I will definitely not return here anytime soon. read more

This place was once again a disappointment. I give it some time apart then try again only to be let down. It's in a great location. That's it. It's average sushi at best. I was literally shocked when my sake came in a PLASTIC CUP. Japan is embarrassed. The soy sauce, also, served in plastic containers. Do you just throw it all into the lake after you're done with them too? I mean come on. This is so lazy and wasteful. Serve your priority items in the dishes they are meant to be in. I went to this restaurant with my daughter and my grandson. The environment was crowded, loud and honestly the service was bad (we didn't get any). We get there and there is no one greeting us, so I asked someone that works there (preparing the sushi) where should we seat and he said "hostess is outside " with a very annoyed tone, didn't even said hello. . We go outside and we sat on a table near the bar. The table was moving nonstop from one side to the other. After about 15mns waiting for someone to acknowledged or presence, We noticed there was a worker seating on the front of the patio (daydreaming) so I asked my daughter to ask her what the process was to get a server to take our order. The worker told my daughter that we had to place our order at the bar. And so I did but I noticed that other tables were getting served but not our table. So I spoke with the manager who explained that some tables near the bar don't get served but our table was supposed to get served but they didn't know. The manager was friendly and apologized and didn't charge us for the dessert. We ordered the "a lot of fish for 2" and I was not impressed, I had better sushi. The person who brought us the sushi had an attitude, I asked her if she could bring me a glass of wine and she replied "I'm not a bartender " seriously? I have never been treated this way anywhere. No one ever came to check on us to see if we needed anything or if the food was good. This type of restaurants make good money in the summer seasons (we don't have a lot of choices in the area, to eat near the beach) this type of restaurants are the ones that get so busy and crowded that they really don't care about your experience as a customer. We shouldn't give them our time and money. The restaurant is situated near the water. There is live music and a full bar. A great place to go with friends and have a good time, you will enjoy it if you don't care about the food and the service. read more

Have to say "Thank you" for the delicious food and kindness. Saturday a driver from California Rollin dropped off multiple take out containers for staff at the hospital I work at part time. Am sure with all that's going on with Covid-19 right now, the food might have gone bad with restaurants being closed, but it was very much appreciated being delivered and dropped off, free. I wish I would have read the reviews first... Horrible service- did not give us any plates or silverware until after the food was served and we had to ask for them. Did not bring us any soy sauce or any of the sauces that were supposed to come with the meal. The sushi was really underwhelming, the octopus was chewy, and I have had better calamari elsewhere. If I could give zero stars, I would. The sushi was terrible and the service was worse. I ordered a roll that is tempura. When the roll came out, it wasn't cooked and had uncooked tempura on the outside. I sent T it back to be cooked and when it came back there was absolutely no flavor. I ordered a Moscow mule and the bartender (and that is being generous of her skill) served it in a plastic cup. I asked for a regular mule mug and she was confused but eventually figured it out. After our food was delivered correctly, we didn't see her again for an hour. This is only a beach bar. Don't go there for sushi or for food of any kind. read more

I'll admit it - I'm a sushi snob. I've had my fair share of traditional sushi so Cali Rollin was far, far, far on the other side of the spectrum. I wonder how I would look with my head and eyebrows shaved wearing all black make up and clothes...not pretty, and I feel the same about Cali Rollin. I've been here about 3 times only because my loved ones, who have lost the ability to taste apparently, like it here because it's close to the house, they have specials/coupons...blah, blah, blah, gag. I usually just taste what they order and none of the rolls are worth using up some of my limited memory capacity to remember it the next time my family's taste buds go numb. Even though I didn't like the rolls, the crawdads appetizer was not that bad. It reminded me of sesame chicken... For what it's worth, I can appreciate the creativity they add to make themselves stand out. There's funky combinations of ingredients that sound interesting, yet lack the...cohesiveness? blending flavors? pulling it all together kind of thing....that kick in the end of chewing on satisfaction. I'm at a loss for words on how to describe that the combo of flavors just didn't work out. Stop forcing it. Just let them break up and part ways. I also got the feeling that this was a joint where the kids would hang out because there's no adult supervision leading the business. If you're into fast food sushi where you don't care if it's not going to be that great but you're starving and need something, then you may like this place. read more

Tonight we attempted to order take out sushi spending almost 90 dollars at your establishment. While attempting to make the pickup we called your restaurant as directed in the email and your employee was very rude before being placed on hold for approximately 10 minutes and then being disconnected. We attempted to call back and were unsuccessful. We then were forced to go inside we were once again ignored by staff for several minutes before being assisted by rude staff. The restaurant was nearly empty so being busy was not the issue. We usually dine at your facility at least several times monthly but lately the service has been subpar. Asian chicken wings with spicy sauce were crunchy little spicy nib-lets, so good. I asked if they use the sauce on any rolls and was dismayed that they don't. It is neat that they have t.v.'s set up in the dining area to watch the preparation. Louisiana Roll, Crawdads spicy jun/Vietnamese sauce. My sushi experience in Rochester and it was very enjoyable! This is my sister and brother-in-laws favorite place to eat sushi and I knew they wouldn't steer me in the wrong direction. The location of this is so pretty. Sadly it was still winter when I visited but it is right on the water and would be nice in the summer. On Mondays they have half price appetizers so we decided to start with the Tuna Crisps which was spicy tuna on a thin chip with spicy mayo and avocado. This was a great way to start any meal because spicy mayo and spicy tuna are my two favorite sushi items. We were hungry so this kept us satisfied while the sushi was being made. I like that they have an open kitchen and that they have a TV where you can watch the rolls being made. We ordered a spicy tuna, crunchy spicy tuna, crab ragoon, chicken finger roll, and the Carla roll. I think my favorite roll was the crab ragoon. I love getting this as a Chinese food dish and knew it wouldn't disappoint. I really like the sweet and spicy sauce it was topped with; it hit the spot! I feel the chicken finger roll was just ok; it was just intriguing to me since it was not at all Japanese inspired and a very WNY type of roll to create. I'm glad i tried it but wouldn't get it again. I also really liked the Carla. This roll had smoked salmon, cream cheese, raspberries and jalapeño peppers. We were hesitant at first because raspberry sauce was in it but it really offset the spiciness of the jalapeño and paired well together. You can also never go wrong with anything spicy tuna in my book so I would recommend those rolls to anyone. We all left feeling very satisfied. Great sushi and would come back here again! read more

We stopped in for a late dinner at the port. We were offered a free cup of NE clam chowder- nice touch! Had the Wasabi dumplings- tasty with that familiar smack to the nasal cavity! Probably the worst service i've experienced. I tend to be lenient with service workers, I understand the tough times but this experience was not good. We seated ourselves (as told by an employee) and waiting approximately 30 minutes before receiving a menu. During that time multiple guests received refills, a new straw, and another group received menus right after they were seated. We were pointed at by waitresses and still no service. Had the most amazing service and meal tonight for our anniversary. It was 6pm on Friday. It was busy but we were still sat immediately outside. Had several rolls and the spicy calamari and all was delicious. The servers are available and friendly. The owner is on point. Gail and I had gone here frequently back in the day, and we loved Junior. I've always tried to be supportive, because yes, there's a lot of sushi options in Rochester, but Rollin II was fun, quirky, and had the most variety. That is why I'm giving 3 stars instead of 1. On May 5th, I put in an order through GrubHub for delivery. Items were missing from a $75 order. I called Rollin II to see if, hey, maybe they forgot the items, maybe we could, I don't know, pick them up? Not only was I not getting the missing items, I heard the girl on the phone telling Junior that we were trying to get free food, and she hung up on me. Attached is the review. Usually we go to their location in Village Gate but since we were up at the beach for volleyball we stopped for an early dinner. We grabbed a nice outdoor table with a view of the new marina. The waitresses were all very friendly and helpful. One plus of this location was that we did not encounter the usual spotty service and long waits for a table (even though many are empty) - a common problem at their other place. Perhaps they have service issues at other times but not this night. On Wednesdays at this location they have a good deal - any roll under $9 is just $5 if you order at least four. And that is what we did. All four were good but the tempura killer shrimp roll was delicious and the crab rangoon roll was not as successful. We did order the albino dessert roll (though not part of the special) and it was just ok. Overall we had a good experience and will have to remember this branch beyond the summer season. read more

I really don't like leaving reviews like this, but the public should know what people really think. I ordered a shrimp tempura roll and ate about 3 pieces until I realized something was very off. It was just very old tasting, the rice was hard, the smell was strange... like it was sitting out for awhile. My stomach felt kinda weird too. Freshness standards need to really be improved here. If it wasn't for the food being not fresh/old, I can tell they used some nice seasoning on the rice, just a shame that it didn't all come together nicely. read more

Do you like to see them make your sushi or sashimi platter? Look no further. They have cameras on the chefs so you can spy to your heart's content. Are you suspicious and really hungry and want to know if they are working on your meal? Well, you can peer up at the television and see if it's next. Literally. What did I have? Salmon bowl with seaweed salad for me. Presentation was nice. The waitress was approachable and friendly. She checked on us routinely and was helpful since we kept dropping our chopsticks. On the menu, I was curious to see if they had Poke bowls, but it is okay, this was pretty close. I saw tons of rolls, cooked ones, raw fish ones, and even some delicious sounding ones. I was tempted to order the Rochester roll and the other fun named ones, but I focused on my bowl. I got over the FOMO and just did it. It did come with a huge helping of seaweed salad which was more than generous. It was so delicious. I might venture to say ephemeral could be a great adjective to describe it. Right now, it sits in my belly so nicely. No regrets I say! Please check my photographs out to see the portion size and the quality. It was not bad meal here. Some of the salmon sashimi had chewy hard vein in it, but I would like to say it was still 90% edible. (minus one star) The bowl came with rice which was seasoned with vinegar and sesame seeds. Not bad. This lunch was definitely filling and did a great job making my raw fish craving fade away. The place was filled, but not packed. Just thought it was worth mentioning if you had a voracious appetite and wanted to eat immediately, this is the place to go to when you are at ontario lake. We were able to get a table easily and with no wait at all or reservation. Yay! I would absolutely revisit. I want to get more seaweed salad and try one of these sushi rolls! My mom and I come here every now and then to get a sushi fix. Today we went there and got to sit outside on a gorgeous day by their outdoor bar. The food was gone before I even thought about taking a picture of it, so I apologize for that... but I can vouch it was amazing. My only complaint is that at the end when we received our bill there was an extra charge for avocado. They notified us after the fact that avocado costs are up and therefore they need to charge extra for any rolls that had avocado on it. The charge was only a dollar, but that's beside the point. It just would have been nice if they told us that before we ordered. Otherwise, our experience and food was amazing as per usual. read more

If you want the authentic stuff, you're better off eating somewhere else, or anywhere on the west coast. This is coming from someone from Japan. The service sucks. They never come to the table. Do not waste your time here. Our server never gave us her name and didn't check on us once. We waited an hour and a half for our food. Once we got the sushi it was warm. It was not fresh and we found that some of our sushi had no fish in it. I ate two pieces of sushi before I couldn't stomach anymore. We also never received one of the rolls we ordered.
