The most lackluster hibachi I've been to. The " chef" was rushing, just going through the motions with no interest. My steak was horrible, served in huge chunks and literally raw. I asked for a knife and the only had a butter knife to give me. The portions were large, I'll give them that, but not tasty at all. The food was good and the portions were huge. The salad was delicious, drinks were great. The waitress was kind and friendly. Our only complaint was the hibachi chef. As another review posted, he does bully kids by spraying them with the water bottle. First he should ask and let the kid agree. He also did the veggie toss but after three attempts he kept going. The last straw was that he gave our kid a few grains of fried rice and then gave everyone else more. At first it was cute, but he took it too far. Playful and fun should be the goal, not taking it so far that our kid literally cries and all the other guests are now looking and uncomfortable. If you are a parent, beware there is one chef here that does bully kids. We would go back, but because of this, we won't. read more

I wanted to love this place so bad. There's a chef who works here who i have followed around to different hibachi places. This is 100% no shade toward the cooking. More so with the quality of food. I think top notch prices are being charged for mid quality meat. The fried rice is okay. Very edible but I've had better. The chicken was good. I had salmon and well, I wouldn't get it from here again. It was very fishy tasting-I felt like I could taste the whole ocean. One of my dinner companions also didn't care for the salmon and said his steak was tough, they wished they'd gotten the filet Mignon . You can be the best chef in the world but if you're given sub par ingredients you aren't being given much to work with and it's not going to be amazing. The side sauces are fantastic and the yum yum sauce was the best I've ever had. The soup was also delicious. The server, I think was also the bartender...if you like strong drinks-this is the place. Very heavy handed pours. She was very friendly. As someone who worked in the food service industry for over 2 decades I really notice cleanliness. There was a cart of cleaning supplies and a broom or mop out in the open. The floors looked clean. There were crumbs on the chair next to me that were there prior to food being served. The hoods that I could see over my table looked okay-but you could see obvious marks that a mop maybe using dirty water was used. The hoods across from me I could see a layer of dust on the side and I was glad I wasn't sitting under that one. The walls are dark grey giving it a gloomy look and there's no lighting under the hoods in the hibachi area. Exposed wires for the computers and plastic bags hung on hooks I presume for paper waste. There is Hardly any art on the walls. It doesn't look finished especially when you walk through the restaurant part that has beautiful lamps over the booths, bars with up lighting-the hibachi area is a let down. This place is top notch! Came with family and my friend was jealous because it's her favorite place. She isn't wrong. The prices here are great for the sushi rolls and that is super difficult to find anywhere. We had sake and of course Sapporo beer because you have to! Could not tell you all the rolls we had ordered because it was a lot. I will say the cucumber crab salad is probably the best thing I've ever tasted. The jalapeño popper things we got were one of my favorites for sure. You need to order those and the rainbow roll. I will say it's weird their rice paper and ginger is pink. This is the best fucking restaurant I have ever been to. Expensive? Sure. But if what you're paying for is this damn good, it is well worth it and more. I've done hibachi before. This place? They take it to the next level, going above and beyond with the customer service. Our cook, Tony, was extremley entertaining, making us all laugh harder than we have in a while. I suppose the purpose of a hibachi chef is to entertain customers while you cook their food, but Tony hit us with the sake bottle multiple times, chanting "sake! Sake!" Every time he did it. It was a blast, and I've never seen any other place do this. He also gave us all some extra food, which was sweet. He genuinely seemed to love his job, and was thrilled to be serving and entertaining us. The food was also probably the best hibachi I've ever had. Steak was juicy, tender, and melted in your mouth. A pretty great place for hibachi with GREAT service! We came here as a group on a busy Friday night, we only had a 5 minute wait for a table and our server was fantastic. We all ordered hibachi and it was a great meal. If I had a comment about it I might say that the vegetables are a little under seasoned compared to some others I've tried. But the meat was cooked really well, and the rice mixed with some of their yum yum sauce was amazing! We have been here multiple times and tonight will be the last. We waited over an hour for my birthday dinner at the bar and were ignored other than our drink order (after a 5 minute wait to even see anyone) and then after watching two other tables have birthday celebrations, we got ignored even though my wife told multiple employees. The cook was great but everything else was the worst hibachi experience that I have ever had and I have been to hibachi restaurants over 30 times.... We got rushed out even though we waited forever and when I was trying to dry my hands in the bathroom the paper towel dispenser fell off the wall. Again, food was delicious. Notice the quadruple sauce fest. Ichiban roll, spicy tuna, cucumber, crunchy lobster tempura, eel and orange sauce. This was good and the sauce wasn't too heavy. Hollywood, pepper tuna, cucumber spicy tuna, pepper tuna (yes they list it twice), crunchy, miso wasabi spicy sauce. This was the worst bite of the night, the tuna was choke-ably dry. Volcano roll, snow crab & spicy tuna on top crunchy, spicy sauce, scallion, masago. The massive lumps of crab and spicy tuna toppers were welcome but render the roll impossible to eat in one bite. This restaurant is absolutely disgustingly dirty. I honestly don't know how this place passes any health codes. We batted fruit flies throughout our meal, the bathrooms were full of bugs, and the lighted decor in the booths were littered with dead bugs, chewed gum and garbage. Run your finger along any horizontal space and it will be covered in greasy grit. Apparently well done steak here has a pink center. Huh? You might be lucky enough to find a dirty mask and gloves in your booth! I was hoping for some sort of raffle prize win... there isn't. Today we decided to try SOGO JAPANESE STEAKHOUSE. We were a party of 3 adults and 1 child. This restaurant was pretty empty. I ordered the Lobster Dragon roll and the Sexy Lady roll. The description to both appeared good. Our waiter was amazing he answered all our questions regarding the menu prior to ordering food and drinks. He also made sure to come by our table often to see if we were set (more than your usual waiter does). When our food finally arrived which was fairly quick(not complaining) the sushi was appealing to the eye was well presented. Their Lobster Dragon Roll was EVERYTHING. That's why they get the 1 Star. Unfortunately the Sexy Lady roll had a sour taste to it and I only ate 1 piece of the roll and move it to the side. Now we get to the juice stuff! When we are ready to check out somebody within my party suggested I ask to get the Sexy Lady roll removed because I did not eat it. We kindly asked the waiter to take it off due to that fact. The waiter told us he would ask his manager. Seconds later the manager ALLEN walked over to our table very aggressively. Allen told me that he could not take off the 14.90 off my bill of 82.62 because that's what I ordered and that it was basically my fault. During this whole ordeal he was screaming at us telling me that the description was on the menu and that it was my fault. He would not let me get not even one word in. At this point as a small business owner myself I was taken back by the rude and unprofessional attitude I was receiving from this man. I had to literally tell him to stop talking and with my finger in the air ( symboling STOP/wait) to be able to at least explain myself. As I was explaining to him that circumstances as such tend to happen to everyone and it is out of his control, at times we order food we think we might like and when we try it we don't. You can tell that he did not care and was not trying to compromise. I totally gave up for the sake of my sanity and the embarrassment I just went through. I kindly asked to charge the Sexy Lady separately so that the person paying for my bill did not have to and kept it moving. I tend to not write a whole essay on these experiences but I am still taken back by this and how unprofessional this was, and how he tried to push on me the fact that I ordered it, read the description so I had to pay for it because I did steps 1,2.... If anyone has experience this at any of their locations because submit a review no one should ever have to go through this experience. read more

A terrible experience was had by all. It took forever to just get the drink order served. We were freezing as soon as we sat down and no matter who we spoke to we all had to wear our outerwear to eat dinner because we were so cold. The dirty soup and salad plates were not picked up so we had to juggle them with our dinner dish and sauce plates, very chaotic. Music blasting above all the other noise so talking was futile. No great amount of food except the salted rice. Not happy at all with this place. Customers are just there to quickly feed and get them out. Not even bottomless sodas. The sushi here is legit amazing! Everything I get is so good! Everything is fresh and tasty. The only downfall is that the service is very slow. I know going here I need to not be in a rush and I know it will take some time but the food is 100% worth it! I really loved this place. As a self proclaimed "sushi snob" I was very impressed. The sushi was great and well put together. It didn't fall apart. The fish was fresh. I got a salmon hand roll and a tuna maki roll as well as white tuna sashimi. The hand roll was great. Again, it didn't fall apart, even when I got to the end of it. There was a good portion of salmon. I was little disappointed with the portion size of the sashimi. It was very small. I was kind of expecting that as the prices were a little less from other places around. It came with 3 pieces but they weren't very thick or large. As an appetizer I got the Age Tofu. This was amazing and is a definite must try. It's tofu fried in tempura batter. They make it so perfect here. There's not too much batter, they don't over cook it. The sauce that is drizzled over the top is bursting with flavor. The outside is crispy and the tofu inside melts in our mouth. So. Good. The portion size was also good and the price is pretty regular with other sushi joints around. The waiter was also fantastic. Very attentive and nice. The restaurant itself is very clean. I love the decor of the place. Very trendy. The music was up beat top 40 stuff and a little lounge/house type music was playing. It wasn't loud, just nice, trendy upbeat music that matched well with the decor on the inside. I gave this restaurant 5 stars. The prices are very affordable, the atmosphere is laid back yet trendy, the staff is attentive and kind and the food is amazing. This was my second time to Sogo's sushi bar. The sushi was good but nothing amazing. The sushi chef on both visits spent more time carrying menus and glasses than making sushi. They haven't figured out service yet. The seaweed salad was quite tasty but a bit pretentious and expensive for the portion size. See the attached photo. This isn't SOHO. If you want a sushi place convenient to Webster it may be a good choice if you're not in a hurry. Otherwise drive an extra fifteen. read more

I went with my teenage soon . The man cooking out hibatchi confirmed our order and still gave me son the wrong food. You had to hunt down a server for a drink , our busser ended up getting it for us . There is an 18% gratuity automatically charged so I signed the Receipt and did not give an extra tip . I recently went to the Sogo Japanese Steakhouse with a couple of coworkers after work for what was meant to be a nice dinner. The ambiance of the place felt older but relaxed and was semi crowded, so we were excited to find a Hibachi place that seemed pretty well liked in the smaller area of Webster as we had previously found some other amazing restaurants in the greater Rochester area, and were excited to add to our growing list of great restaurants, however we were in for a surprise. We started out with appetizers, which were fried gyoza and tempura shrimp both of which were actually quite tasty. As for entrees I ordered the Hibachi duet with both chicken and filet mignon, and my coworkers placed an order for the chicken hibachi and the teriyaki steak, two of which came with salads and soup which were okay. The issue came when the entrees were brought out. To their credit, the chicken was cooked perfectly. Both of the steak dishes however were ordered medium yet they both were completely underdone, with the cubed filet mignon pieces being purplish and squishy on the inside and the steak for the teriyaki (a slightly thinner cut of steak than my dish) being bloody red with some areas being purplish as well. Now having worked in restaurants in the past, I like to give the benefit of the doubt and I simply asked if the meat could be cooked a bit more as the meat was truly raw inside. The server, Suzi, was very sympathetic to this request and fully agreed the meat was raw (see photos I've uploaded) and brought the meat back to the kitchen. The meat was soon brought back out and I was excited to be able to eat the remainder of my dish. Unfortunately this meat was also severely undercooked, and slightly more purple than the last dish as Suzi said they completely redid the steak portion of the dish to "medium." Suzi agreed again the meat was raw (see pictures of the "redone" steak), and asked if I wanted it done again which at this point I just asked if they could discount the steak portion from my chicken and filet mignon dish as I'd eaten the chicken. Her response is what got me; "Well since the kitchen used two pieces of filet mignon, the original and the redone one, I don't think they'll let me discount that part" to which I responded, "But it was still raw, I only want the steak portion of my dish taken off...." The kicker of a response she had, "Yeah I know it was raw, sorry." At that point I realized there wasn't much traction happening and the only solution would be letting others know of this experience so they can avoid a similar situation. If you do choose to venture here, do so at your own health risk, otherwise you might end up like me, with food poisoning. I wasn't originally coming here expecting the pinnacle of Japanese steakhouses, however when a self-proclaimed steakhouse can't cook steak even semi properly, that usually means there is a serious issue. read more

Very disappointed writing this review - my fiancé and I went here a few weeks ago and were SO happy, food was great, service was great, etc. Today, however, was a nightmare. My fiancé and I came in at 6:15, got water, and put in our orders. The restaurant was not busy, just seemed like a typical weeknight. 7:00 hits, we have not received any food. I understand sushi takes some time - however our appetizers should not take 40+ minutes. Furthermore, you can see the chef making the sushi and he had not even started on ours yet. Unfortunately a lovely evening came to a horrible end after the business owner, Allen, came to our table screaming at us in front of other guest because we requested to get a sushi roll, Sexy Lady, removed from our tab since we did not eat it due to it having a horrible taste (1 pc of the roll was consumed and the waiter was immediately notified that it had a strange taste) The owner was infuriated and barged at our table screaming that he was not going to remove the item from our tab. After going back and forth we gave up and paid for the roll because at this point the environment in the restaurant was hostile. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. I would like to understand how $14 only gets you 4 pieces of underwhelming sushi. My true score for this restaurant would have been a 4.5, but I shall round up. We made reservations for 5pm, and were seated immediately. We started off with appetizers which I chose the Kaki Fry and Sogo Mussels. They were out of the Kaki fry so I chose the Kobe Beef. Surprisingly, we were brought a complementary Calamari appetizer due to running out of the Kaki Fry. It was unexpected, but a nice gesture. The Calamari was surprisingly tender and not tough. The Sogo Mussels were tasty and the Kobe Beef was absolutely delicious. I love the concept of cooking it yourself on the little hot plate they give you. We moved onto sushi and here is where I would have given this restaurant a 4.5. I ordered nigiri and they were out of a few choices. What I did indeed order was Tuna, Scallop, Fluke, Sea Bass, Yellow-Tail, and King Crab. Each piece had a nice flavor and tasted fresh. No complaints there. We then ordered a few of their rolls which we went all out on. We got the Ichiban, Webster, and Lobster Dragon. Beautifully wrapped, but for special rolls, I personally would have preferred them on separate plates vs. all three on one. My only complaint is, the accompanied sauce was a bit overpowering so you don't taste what's inside the roll/fish. I would preferred the sauce drizzled more lightly. We also ordered the King of Sea entrée which had an absolutely stunning presentation. Scallops, Shrimp, and Lobster were nicely cooked, tender, and had a very nice light sauce. In the end, this actual restaurant's atmosphere is really nice and I love the lights and colours used. I'd definitely return and recommend to friends and family. On a side note, I would like to thank Adrian who was an absolute pleasure. His professionalism and service started off on a high note, and ended on a high note. Went here with my BF and we didn't really enjoy it. I ordered sushi and it was ok. We sat at the hibachi table and the chef talked too fast and never shut up. Plus, he tossed rice at us which went under a cabinet behind us. We never saw any staff pick it up so I'm not too sure how they keep pest under control. Other than that, the place was nice but we will not be returning. read more
