They were truly everything we could have hoped for and executed our wedding beautifully. From the start we loved their engagement (Angie's detailed questions and approach, and Dov's thoughtfulness in creating a truly unique menu based on our preferences). My wife didn't involve me much in the planning process for our wedding but this aspect was important to me since food is just one part of the wedding, but always one of the key takeaways for the guests. Well, their takeaway was incredibly positive. I received many unsolicited stamps of approval on the quality of the food. Even my grandfather, who hates everything but his own cooking and isn't afraid to tell people went to find Dov to tell him (in German...which Dov doesn't speak) how great the food was. Angie was able to do what few people could during this day, which was to put my wife at ease. She took over the logistics and coordination and ensured everything ran smoothly. When we arrived at the reception (running behind due to pictures) she saw that my wife and I were unable to move through the crowd as we were being congratulated by everyone, so she sneakily made her way over to us and brought us our first drink. It may seem like a small thing, but those are the most difficult to execute, and this is where the difference between a good reception and an amazing one is determined. Cannot say enough great things about this company. I hired them for a 40 person birthday party in my back yard and was looking for someone who could handle everything from food, to planning, to rentals. They did all this and more. Kaitlin was a true professional when it came to helping me plan and coordinate the details. Dov (the owner), Kaitlin, and Netha came by a few weeks in advance to help plan out details like table rentals and were so great to work with and came up with excellent ideas and solutions for space constraints. I went back and forth with them a lot on food (because there were so many good options to choose from!) but the final menu ended up being amazing. The day of coordination was incredible - they were ON IT! The food was delicious, the service excellent, and the on-site coordination (from timing of food, to ensuring details like water and wine were flowing) took away all the stress I could enjoy the evening. Best catered wedding meal I have ever had! Chef Dov is a genius; his dishes are works of art - delicious and sophisticated without being pretentious or overwrought. And the family-style serving gave everyone the equivalent of 3-4 entrees rather than Pick One: (dry) Chicken, (boring) Steak or (insipid) Fish. Numerous guests raised their eyebrows and commented on the quality of the meal, starting with the very first dish, a plated salad. Our daughter was married on 3/16/13 and we had the great pleasure to have it catered by California Rose. Dov and Angy were amazing every step of the way -- even providing two tastings for our daughter and her fiance who were living abroad at the time we began planning. Every detail was carefully and thoughtfully taken care of. Our daughter is Vegan and her fiance is not. Dov put together a menu that was outstanding for both the Vegans and the meat-eaters at our reception. In fact, many of the meat-eaters could not get over the veggie options! My son and his fiance were married this past weekend and thier wedding feast was provided by California Rose Catering ). I am 61 years old and have been to a good many weddings. But without question or exception the wedding feast (in every sense of the word) was the best I have ever had. Short ribs as tender as anything from Bottega and chioppino as fresh as that from Yankee Pier. With 150 people to be served the food was warm and ready as though prepared for two. I can't believe I never wrote a review for this wonderful place. They catered my wedding in August '09 and were absolutely fantastic! To this day, when friends/family/etc. talk about our wedding, they still compliment us on the delicious food. Everyone I spoke to on the phone (emailed with, met with, etc.) at California Rose was so helpful and friendly. Of course the amazing food is what sold us on them. There was an initial tasting (the first and only one!) at which my husband and my parents and I were served the equivalent of a five star meal. My husband and I work in the industry and thus have discerning palates (aka picky) and the food blew us away. Just had my wedding last weekend and they were AMAZING! The food was great, the staff was great and they made the process very easy. From the very beginning they were awesome. The prices were very reasonable for the quality of food.We had the Thai shrimp, coconut curry ahi, corn cakes and goat cheese empanadas for appetizers and everyone was beyond pleased. We had family style dinner with short ribs and fish, so yummy. Beyond the food, the staff was so friendly and attentive. I was the bride and I know that they pay special attention to the bride but it seemed that every guest was special. During photos while the guests were being served appetizers they made sure all of the wedding party had plenty too. The planning was made easy because Deanna is so on her game, and Dov was super easy to work with and so friendly. Would recommend to anyone having a wedding or any catered event. Angy and the team at California Rose did an outstanding job with our wedding in Piedmont. I'd highly recommend their service and food to anybody else. The tasting and starting conversations were all incredibly comfortable and the food was oustanding. On the day of, they were a perfect vendor without any issues. They were able to work with another food provider - taking dim sum food and preparing/serving without any hiccups. Everybody raved about how fun (and good-looking) the bartenders were. The hors d'oeuvres were just as amazing as we remembered. No clean up or complicated follow up afterwards. We hired California Rose to cater our first wedding anniversary party last week. We had over 50 people, and my greatest concern was for the quality of the food, and I wanted to make sure that we wouldn't run out of food. From the first time I talked to Chef Dov, I knew that we were going to be taken care of well! He is very clear about wanting to give an amazing product to his customers, and takes care that every detail is attended to. We had BBQ at our party, as it was a picnic. Dov helped us with every angle, from advising us on the locations that we were scouting to tailoring to the menu to accommodate our preferences and budget. The food was AMAZING!! We had ribs (with a delicious BBQ sauce), sausage, chicken, potato salad, quinoa salad, kale salad, and the most amazing ever corn-polenta-jalapeno bread...yum!! California Rose catered our wedding, and it was a pleasure to work with them. First, the food was fantastic. Angy and Dov welcomed our parents to join us for the tasting, and worked with us to design a menu that was perfect. Dov also helped suggest wines we could order that would pair well with his menu. But California Rose is much, much more than just a caterer. Angy arranged all of our rentals, walked through our schedule with us, and functioned as our day-of coordinator. We picked the family style menu, but she made sure to take special care of my grandparents so they wouldn't have to pass the plates. Without us asking, Angy also reached out to all the other vendors to coordinate cake delivery, flower set up, etc. She really went above and beyond what anyone would have asked of a caterer, and because of Angy, we were able to go without a day-of coordinator. We also particularly appreciated how thoughtful Angy was. While setting up before the wedding, a plate of cheese and fruit mysteriously appeared in the wedding party's room, which was very much appreciated by everyone. She also put up with all of our questions -- "what's the rain plan? do you have any table number holders?" -- cheerfully and patiently, and always knew the answer, which made us feel very confident that we were in good hands for our wedding. Like many other reviewers, I'm so glad we hired California Rose as our caterer. We learned that the key to a good caterer is not just the quality of food and service, but their experience at the venue, and California Rose's experience at Landmarks Art & Garden Center in Tiburon (our venue) could not have been better. Angy was effectively like a wedding planner, helping us determine rental orders (who from, how much, etc), where to place things, how the flow of the event should go, what had worked in that venue before and what hadn't (e.g. we decided that enjoying market lights for an hour wasn't worth the price of stringing them up), how much alcohol and other drinks to buy, and of course, what type of food we wanted, We had 2 tasting with California Rose and they were incredibly accommodating with scheduling since both my husband and I live outside of California. The first tasting was in late January, and I was not super impressed by the quality of food. (I was, however, really appreciative that they gave us a doggy bag so my sister could try it too). The second tasting was in May and it was amazing, some of the best food I've ever eaten, particularly the appetizers. Looking back, the first tasting may not have been as amazing because Chef Dov uses local, fresh ingredients and in January, the fruits and vegetables may not have the same quality. At the wedding, the food was excellent, especially the little appetizers. Unfortunately, like most brides and grooms, we didn't get to eat very much of the goodness, so California Rose will box up the extras and send it along with you. It was way more food than we could eat, but we were really appreciative for it. Neither my husband nor I care for cake, so we opted for just a dessert table with coffee and hot cocoa. However, Chef Dov really encouraged us to have a cake (no extra cost) and the little chocolate tort was absolutely delicious. One of the best desserts I've ever eaten. If only I had some right now... Angy and Chef Dov and their staff are excellent to have worked with, down to earth (we literally just hung out at their catering office for one afternoon just talking about plans and rentals and eating their jelly beans), calm under pressure, and perfectors of the art of food preparation. When we totaled the bill, they were not inexpensive but not expensive, and for the quality of their food, service, and hands-on help and preparation of the entire wedding event, I wished that I had hired California Rose at the very beginning of our wedding planning rather than waste our time (and much needed energy) with looking into other caterers and trying to figure out up from down in the wedding planning world. The two nicest, most professional people in the business (who happen to be mother and son) opened their kitchen to my fiancee and I for a tasting while we were deciding on a caterer for our upcoming wedding. The entrees (we had shortribs and an incredible seafood dish) were fresh, cooked perfectly, and oh so good. In fact, the next day what dominated to post-wedding discussions? The bride's dress? And they have such a wide variety of menus from fois gras skewers and crab cakes to BBQ ribs and chicken. The sauces are the best part! The food is not like what you get with other caterers where it comes dried out or flavorless because of over-steaming. The food we've gotten has always been incredible, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. The owners (mother and son) are also really personable yet professional; so, very easy to work with. I disagree with the review below since I've used them to cater small dinner parties at my house and they did an amazing job, giving special attention to even the smallest details. They never gave me the impression that my orders were too small, but instead, made me feel like an important client. After contacting them to explain the situation, Angy provided step-by-step assistance through the entire process. She showed up early at the venue on the day of the event to make sure that we had everything that we needed. Eric was our on-site coordinator. He and the entire staff was amazing! I wish that I could remember the names of all of the staff because they were so professional and never hesitated to step up when extra hands were needed. California Rose catered our 150-person fall wedding at Piedmont Community Hall, and we can't recommend Dov, Angy, and their team highly enough. Our guests are still complimenting Dov's food, even months after our wedding. My wife and I knew we wanted food stations so that people would have lots of choices to accommodate their various restrictions (vegetarianism, gluten free, dairy free, etc.). Dov created a delicious menu with a wide variety of choices, all within our budget. Angy's coordination was perfect and a huge help to us leading up to the wedding and on the day itself. She helped us think of and take care of every detail, from ordering dinner tables of different sizes to accommodate our seating chart, to remembering to rent heaters for the dinner patio. Angy is an incredible combination of laid-back style with impeccable organizational skills. On top of incredible food and organization, we felt like California Rose went above and beyond to make our whole experience with them awesome. Angy was adamant that we would eat the food at our own wedding (which I've heard lots of brides/grooms don't get to), and she made it happen. The wait staff had plates of appetizers waiting for us as we walked out of our ceremony before we went to take photos, and they served us dinner at the perfect time so that we could eat while other guests were going to the food stations. Also, we planned our wedding from afar, and Dov and Angy had no problem fitting in two tastings (one food, one dessert) for us during our brief visits to town in the months before our wedding.
