This is my go to sandwich close to where I live. Staff is always nice and friendly. One of my favorite is the veal and steak sandwich and I recently tried the meatball sandwich which is now part of my favorites. Definitely will go back. Recommended to my friends and family.

Pasta with sauce and chicken. Off menu item

Pasta with sauce and chicken. Off menu item. Ordered this with one of my co-worker who is a regular here. Off menu item. Pasta with chicken. Great restaurant here which is a excellent lunch spot for all the businesses around the area. Staff very friendly, positive and the restaurant is very clean and organized. Pro tip: call in ahead your order to reduce your wait time at the restaurant.

Spicy veal with provolone and mushrooms

Was actually better than I remember from last time I was in TO almost 10 years a ago. I've been California dreaming of this sandwich and it didn't disappoint. Whoever said this was the best location was spot ON! Veal sando spicy with provolone and mushrooms.

I love California Sandwiches. My favourite sandwich is the veal. It's all that I order. While doing my usual food app browsing (I picked it up during the pandemic and it is becoming a regular part of my day), I noticed that California Sandwiches was offering a veal sandwich for $5 on Skip the Dishes. What? I rubbed my eyes. I refreshed my app. I looked at the menus of all California Sandwiches locations. I had read it correctly. $5 for a veal sandwich that has a regular price of $12 was on. I needed it badly! Over the years, I seem to be slowly dropping by every California Sandwiches location in the GTA. My closest location is this one on York Mills, just west of Don Mills. This deal made me change my usual Wednesday plans to get my groceries in Stouffville to getting them in Scarborough and then coming here to fetch takeout for dinner. After I had finished my grocery shopping, I placed an order on my app and then drove over. The app said that my order would be ready in ten minutes. The original estimated time was double that. I did a first. I actually took highway 401 westbound during rush hour to make it there at a reasonable time. Why is this highway driving unusual for me? - Before this pandemic, I normally drive eastbound home from work. Going in the opposite direction felt odd. - I rarely drive on the 401 during rush hour. It's typically a parking lot, but it was fine that evening. - I prefer to drive on backroads. I see more that way. I exited off Leslie and took Lesmill to get to this location. It was a nice drive! This California Sandwiches location is in a plaza with a number of eateries. It made me realize that I need to come back and check them out. There was plenty of parking. I backed into a spot and walked in. There are designated spots in front of California Sandwiches for pickup orders. There was a customer who looked like he was waiting, but was at the order area. I can never tell. Finally, a woman behind the counter acknowledged me, he moved, and I mentioned that I had a Skip the Dishes order. It was ready. She handed a paper bag over to me. I thanked her, wished her a great evening, and left. She reciprocated, minus the leaving part. I ordered the following: - Veal sandwich with sauteed mushrooms (my usual) - Sausage sandwich with sauteed onions - Tiramisu I was debating whether to eat my food in the car and then drive home. I had more willpower than I normally do and drove home to eat my dinner there. With a veal sandwich going for $5, I felt the need to branch out and try other items. That evening, I had half the veal sandwich and half the sausage sandwich. The veal sandwich was amazing, which I have come to expect. The veal was tender and had a thin layer of breading. The marinara sauce was bright and delicious. I like sauteed mushrooms in my veal sandwich, so I splurged and paid an extra $1.50. The bun was soft and chewy. Perfect! I liked the sausage sandwich. The sausages are split in half, so that they don't roll out of the bun. With me, such a sandwich always causes the sausages to fall out. I can't win! It was yummy. The sausage was mild and flavourful. I got sauteed onions because I love the combination. So good! However, my heart is still with the veal sandwich. My love for it is unwavering. Both sandwiches were massive. It's the norm at California Sandwiches. I love tiramisu. So, how come have I never had it here? Well, I tend to consume an entire massive veal sandwich that I have no room for dessert. Well, I can safely say that I made room for it this evening. It was so good. It's the right portion in a cup. The espresso and cocoa with the marscapone and lady fingers tasted perfect. I loved it. Note to self: I need to add tiramisu to my order. This $5 deal is about to end. I am thankful for taking advantage of it here and again yesterday. I am so glad that this location is easy for me to get to. I will be back for more! (426)

Chicken with hot peppers, sweet peppers and provolone.

This location has been a mixed bag lately and botching our orders. Ordered a sweet veal and they gave us a hot veal. It's happened twice now. Luckily the person who got the chicken parm with sweet peppers and cheese was extremely satisfied. When they're on, they're on and then some. Tip: If you ask for the sauce on the side, the chicken or veal retains its crispiness on the way home.

Steak sandwich cross section

Very nice and friendly staff here. Ordered the steak sandwich and did not expect the size to be almost as big as my head haha. It was messy to eat but definitely tasty. I found the steak to be a bit chewer than I expected but otherwise I would buy it again. The onion that came with it paired really well with the sandwich.

Veal Sandwich (the cutlets all hanging out)

First time trying this place, after hearing good reviews from coworkers. Gets a little busy during the lunch rush, but the food is prepared pretty quickly. Ordered the Veal Sandwich, with Sauteed Onions, Provolone Cheese and Jalapenos (the toppings other than jalapenos are extra$). First impression, these sandwiches are HUGE! Got some real weight to them, each sandwich with a couple of veal cutlets. It's covered in sauce and can get a little messy to eat. Recommend to ask for a fork to clean up the scraps afterwards. Taste was good. The cutlet is still a little crispy, and hot off the fryer. Sauce was sweet, tart, but not too overwhelming. Order a side, and it's definitely enough for two people. Will probably come back some time, and try some of the other toppings.

Veal parmigiana sandwich spicy with jalapeños Mmmmmm!

Can't really say anything bad about this place. I ordered up a veal parm sandwich spicy with jalapeño peppers. Veal was super tender and piled high. Don't even think of driving and eating one of these,

Chicken sandwich with mushrooms

Honestly didn't get the hype until I tried their chicken sandwich. Key tip: ALWAYS get sauce on the side. Otherwise you end up with a very soggy sandwich. Good quality at a higher price point, with any toppings costing extra $1-3. They're known for their veal sandwiches, but personally not a fan. Too salty, breading falls apart, generally really heavy. Get the chicken instead - arguably the best chicken sandwich in Toronto...

In the plaza where Kelsey's and Wendy's used to be -now Starbucks and something opening soon. Between Pizza Hut and the Teriyaki Experience.

California Sandwiches always delivers, I love the Chesswood location, and I especially love the original down on Clairmont. They all do exactly the same thing but they each do it with their own little bit of style. This York Mills location tends to go a little thicker on the veal and a little heavier on the chopped jalapeno heat, but once again they make a delicious customizable Italian sandwich. My go to order is a "Hot Veal Sandwich", with provolone, and occasionally with some mushrooms or some sweet peppers. With the "hot" representing not the fact that they freshly fry the veal cutlets to order, which they do, but referring to a generous helping of finely diced roasted jalapeno which brings the spicy Heat! You can always order it "medium", or "sweet" for no jalapenos at all, for the timid among you. None-the-less, it's a great sandwich, great service, and always delicious - never any complaints. Nice job California Sandwiches!

Eggplant parmigiana with sautéed onion and provolone
Tom T.

I'm a big fan of the California Sandwiches chain and this location in particular. It's very clean, modern with decent parking. All the sandwiches are massive so if you're not that hungry, you may want to look at the smaller sized offerings. I've tried the chicken, eggplant and of course their famous veal. All are perfectly seasoned, fried fresh to order and come with the tangy, delicious tomato sauce. I normally only add their sautéed onions, but they do have several choices to personalize your sandwich.

Chicken parm addbreaded eggplant w onions and cheese
Nique A.

I love California sandwiches. I generally always order the eggplant parm. This time my sister told me try it w the chicken as well. So i did the chen parm add breades eggplant. It was super delicious. Crispy and flavourful, not too much sauce, right amoint of cheese and onions. Of coirse the sandwich is huge so I ate half and my friend enjoyed the other half. Will definitely be back * ordered through skip the dishes* Came nice amd hot on arrival not one complaint.

Monstrous 10" Veal Sandwich with peppers and provolone cheese

If you are looking for large portions, fast, at a reasonable price in Toronto, this is it. Its á la carte menu boasts an assortment of sandwiches from veal to meatball served on a ginormous bun. I had the veal, provolone cheese and peppers with an order of fries. It came quickly, with the staff gracious and accommodating. The sandwich was the size of my head, easily enough for 2 people. After getting over the shock of its shear size, I dug in and it was quite tasty. I was not up to the task. It was more than I could handle, though I wish I had the stomach to put it all down because I did enjoy it. They do have smaller portions for those of us who can't take on the big boy sizes. Clean and well run, it's a great place for a quick lunch and a nap afterwards. I recommend a visit.

Not a lot of seating to eat so consider takeout. Food: Jerk chicken sandwich - the jerk chicken had good flavor though a slightly oversalted. The coleslaw was crunchy and sweet to contrast the chicken. The coco bun was decently soft though not the must fluffy. 4/5. Goat roti - really good flavor and tender goat. The roti itself is very soft yet holds up against the filling. Pretty good at deboning the goat meat for the roti though the owner usually warns that there could be bones still. Pretty huge roti. 5/5. Allwyns is one of my favorite places to get jerk chicken. Definitely recommend.

To compare the two, I ordered a spicy beef patty and tested them for flakiness, crispness, and filling. First off price wise. It was cheaper here at $2.70 including tax. I found that this beef patty here at Allwyn's was flaky enough but lacked the crispness of the outside dough. As well the filling was too moist or soggy and it was translucent which was off putting. Also, the patty was lukewarm and not piping hot. I came here to try one and then maybe go back in and pick up a dozen. But From the one patty I had. It didn't warrant a purchase of a dozen to take home for future enjoyment. I must say the patty was not bad. However I found it was not the best one I have had in Toronto. I will pick Islands Express Foods for a beef patty in future visits. Recommendations, I suggest you try for yourself as this is a personal preference but I'll stick to some other locations for my beef patty fix.

It's quite a busy plaza so parking can be a bit tricky at the front, consider parking on the side and walking a bit if you're able. Inside was quite clean and calm. All the tables and chairs seemed clean and staff were busy making food. Lots of takeout orders. Decent number of tables and chairs but not a ton. Food: Beef brisket with cheese sub. The meat was flavorful and tender. Mayo and bbq sauces were quite tasty. Toppings like lettuce, cucumber cubes, caramelized onions all tasted fresh. Surprisingly very messy - possibly because of all the melted cheese and sauce. Meatball sub - delicious, tender and flavorful meatballs in a marinara sauce on the sub. As before vegetables were fresh and the bread is soft yet holds up against all the filling. French fries - surprisingly really good. It's a vertical crinkle cut so the ridges are vertical to give it more crispiness. The sauce is great with the French fries! Price: Definitely on the more expensive side of things when it comes to subs but quality and taste are really high. Also feels like the sandwich is pretty big for a medium so definitely getting value overall.

Even though the location at the Promenade Mall exceeds this horrible location by 100 times. I came here to this location in York Mills Rd expecting a decent sub and some decent service. That's not expecting much But On this occasion, I entered and the one Indian lady about 20 something years old immediately put me off. She took my order rather curtly and asked my name forcefully. I mean I am the only customer in there. I waited my 4-5 minutes paying no mind. Then She proceeded to just plop my sandwich on the counter and literally screamed my name and then walked to the back. I'm sorry but this order is for take out I said can I have a bag. She saids she doesn't have big bags with handles. This is not my first rodeo here and she plops a small sandwich bag on the counter with absolutely no customer service like bagging it for me and then walks off again. That's when I see a uber order with a said bag with handle sitting there I mean, I like their sandwiches but service and a remotely polite service is important too. I definitely strongly recommend to stay away from this location. And I am debating on going to any location again as this represents not only their name and location but the franchise reputation as a whole.

Somehow we didn't get the hype memo, as our order was far from a grand one. I'm glad the business is doing well so I'm sharing an honest opinion of the fried chicken and shrimp sandwich. The staff was surprised to have business on a weekend afternoon, and just sat under the cash register. Within our order, the fried shrimp sandwich came loaded in a crunchy patty with beans & veggies inside toasted buns. I was anticipating a good bite; the only problem was that it was rock hard without much flavour. Since I don't like wasting food, I didn't toss it out. The spicy chicken was crispy and seasoned well similar to Taiwanese fried chicken. Its only drawback was that the spice seasoning was quite salty. Not as ultra crispy as Taiwanese night market chicken but it'll do. One benefit of this location is that dessert is only a stone's throw away. The nearby Wooffles & Cream stall is always busy. The rest of this quiet food court seemed to have fallen on harder times during the pandemic though a return to office may help boost lunch business. However, we'll be getting our fried chicken fix from elsewhere at a similar price point.
