My car recently turned eight, so I needed to get its first smog test for the registration renewal. New Century Honda, where I usually get my oil change, recommended California Smog. Service is first come, first serve. I came on a weekday, so there was only one person ahead of me. The mechanic was very nice and made a space for me to park beside the garage while I waited. The whole process was very easy. The actual smog test took about 20 minutes, and I passed the time filling out paper work and scrolling on my phone. My vehicle passed, and the DMV was notified the same day. Given the affordable pricing and the quality service, this smog test was a great value! I highly recommend! read more

I noticed there was a discount coupon available, but it also mentioned, "CA Cert if Vehicle Passes. Most Vehicles Fees Apply," which made me want clarification before going in. I called and spoke directly with Albert, especially since I had read a review mentioning possible upcharges. I drive a Honda Odyssey minivan, and from past experience, I know larger vehicles can sometimes cost more than sedans. Albert will BAIT AND SWITCH you. He says a smog check is $39.95 with a coupon. That's all. Then in person, he says it's $70 to include other nonsense add-ons that make zero sense. Then he says you will end up only paying $55, and he's very pushy about that part. He spoke very fast, was repeating his prices and "explanations" for the prices very quickly and at this point I realized he was flim-flamming. It's wrong to say the price is something lower on the phone, invite someone to go ahead and come in, and then gouge the price. I wouldn't have made the drive if I had known the real cost. Do your research and go elsewhere, where the servicer is honest. Believe the 1-star reviews! read more

Most shops see this thing pull up and suddenly everybody disappears to 'lunch,' but not here. Maria and Cesar handled it like absolute veterans. Maria was at the front desk looking so good I almost forgot why I came in there in the first place. Dude walked up to the truck like he'd wrestled lifted suspensions in hand-to-hand combat before breakfast. My truck is on a 12-inch lift with 42-inch tires, which basically means it's less of a truck and more of a mobile observation tower. Small children look at it the way people look at monster trucks at a county fair. Most oil change places take one look at it and suddenly say things like "our lift is down" or "we don't service... aircraft carriers." Not these guys. They walked out, looked up at the truck like they were inspecting a skyscraper, nodded, and got to work like it was a completely normal Tuesday. I needed to get a smog test performed to complete my registration. The place I usually go was closed (or out of business). I missed the turn into another place and happened upon California Smog & Test Only on Central Ave., in Glendale. Thank you fate. Upon arrival there were two customers ahead of me. The proprietor (Albert) went out of his way to make me feel comfortable while I waited. (It's an auto repair/maintenance facility, so there's only so much you can do, but at least the couch was clean and the fan was circulating the air effectively.) Within less than 30 minutes, the two people ahead of me had been dispatched and I was getting my confirmation of electronic notice to the DMV. Later the same day I was able to complete my registration online. Let's face it. The smog check is probably one of the least challenging of automotive repair/maintenance procedures. In too many places, I'm made to feel as though I have "burdened" the proprietor with my problem. Not Albert. He is a consummate professional and I appreciate his attention. Hopefully he'll generate a lot of business so he's still "around" when I need to do this again in two years. read more

I found this smog place in Glendale online with coupon offer $29.99, call the shop to confirm the coupon if legit and it was, I went to the shop smog check took less than 20 minutes, VERY ORGANIZED, PROFESSIONAL, EXCELLENT and FIVE STAR SERVICE. Paid $42.00 (coupon plus DMV transfer) the CHEAPEST in town no hidden charge and coupon is legit make sure you print it before you go to the shop, overall I am a happy customer left the shop with a BIG SMILE :) ) on my face. Came here for a smog test for an out-of-state vehicle since I'm visiting. It's easy to locate and I was greeted promptly as soon as I parked my car. The mechanic asked me what I needed, gave me the price and took the keys, moving my car himself where he needed it. There's a shaded area with a nice couch where you can wait and your car is right in front of you so you can watch what's being done to it. Overall, excellent service and I'm definitely glad I came here to get this done quick and easy. I'd also like to add that I called the day prior to ask if an appointment was needed (it's not FYI), and the phone, and my question, was answered quickly and painlessly. Painless. As another reviewer noted: "quick, friendly, and easy." Not sure what else there is that i could add. The process took about ten minutes, but that was after a short wait, as Albert was tending to another car before i arrived. In all, it probably took a half hour. There's a meager waiting area with a small couch, but i did not use it, as it was a hot+humid day, and the waiting area does not get any air. Other than that? The facilities aren't much to look at -- just a set of garage bays. But, what do you need? You get a certification, and that's that. I would only advise that you get your pricing (complete, with DMV certification and electronic transmission) settled by phone prior to arrival.... read more

I love Albert and California Smog & Test Only! I try to squeeze in my smog check before work. When I got there at 7:50am, he was already there and ready to work. I was out by 7:57am with a passing smog check and on my way. I used the YELP coupon for a great price, waited in a clean customer waiting area, in a spotless shop. I so appreciate a business that operates so professionally, efficiently, and economically. California SMOG & Test Only is in my Google contacts under SMOG CHECK and that is where I go every year! For fast friendly service at a reasonable price, Albert's California Smog and Test Only can't be beat. I will never go anywhere else. Albert knows what he is doing, my car failed smog and he asked me if I had disconnected my battery for a long time. I disconnect my battery for long periods of time, so I was surprised he knew. He told me that my onboard computer had been erased because the battery was disconnected for so long. Then he told me to drive it for a while so that driving data could accumulate on the computer. 400 miles later, I came back and he re-tested at no extra charge and it passed. I don't think anyone has ever equated getting a smog check to having a pleasant experience, but that's because they haven't visited Albert. He is one of the loveliest humans you will ever meet, AND he gets you in and out in less than 10 mins, AND his price is thee best in the area, AND even if I wasn't, you'd still pay a little more if you had to because of how much better of an experience you'll have. I took both my cars to him the same day, and lovely human that he is, he pointed out that one didn't actually need a smog check. Lovely. I had my car in for another smog check today (my 3rd time here since finding out about him). And just as before, Albert provided great service. I was there for 15 to 20 minutes max, and there was even another customer ahead of me. Even before he was done with the other customer, he had my car in the garage bay ready to get checked. $42.00 total ($29.95 coupon off his website + $8.05 for certificate + $4 for electronic transfer fee). I don't know if that's the best price in town or not, but it didn't matter since he's close by and he provided fast and friendly service. See you next year. read more

This was the first time I've ever had to get a smog check and I didn't quite know what to expect. Any kind of dealing with car repair and upkeep feels foreign to me, even a simple oil change can be overwhelming. This was not at all the case at Cali Smog Check Only Station. The owner was friendly, straightforward, and went out of his way to explain the process an cost break down to me. There was a minimal wait, and the whole process didn't take as long as an oil change usually does. I'll be coming back for every smog check here after that's for sure! read more

I brought my BMW M3 in to get a smog check. When I spoke with him on the phone he quoted me a very low price. Mind you, most places that quote you are sneaky because they do not include the typical fee to electronically send the certificate to the DMV. In speaking with Albert, his quote was all inclusive and honest. He took me in immediately without waiting and got me passed for my smog check in no time flat. Its our first time to do a smog check for my car and we dont know where can we go and have it check.. while strolling around we saw the sign of this shop that they do smog check. Needed a star certified station for the DMV. Stopped by two other places in Glendale and both told me they couldn't smog my car because it was too old?!?! The third time is a charm and ended up here at California Smog & Test. They took my car (83 Volvo) and the service was awesome. They explained that older cars require a bit more testing so some stations don't bother with them anymore. If you have an older car ... or a newer one... this is the place to go. My car had the battery changed just before I needed to have it smogged. I did not realize that I would have to drive the vehicle for several hundred miles before it could be pass the smog check. The owner checked the vehicle and allowed me to bring my car in periodically and check it for free until I reached the sufficient number of miles driven to pass. A very positive and pleasant experience. The vehicle was inspected so smoothly and efficiently. By the time Albert came back the Certificate is all ready and submitted. I highly recommend this place to anyone at anytime.
