I found this company on Craigslist and I spoke with Michael who quickly gave me a quote over the phone (which was nice for a start). I didn't call to schedule an appointment simply because I was busy but when I did, he pretty much scheduled me for the next business day. We have cats and the couches have pet hair and scents and such....they haven't been cleaned since they were purchased almost a year and a half ago. And there was no way in hell I was going to do that myself. Michael called to confirm the appointment two hours before schedule time....he showed up on time..and did a PHENOMENAL job. I was ready to have my sister get rid of these couches but I'm glad that I called and had them professionally cleaned. They look brand new. Will definitely have them out to do my mom's next. I also inquired about homecleaning services and I'm looking forward to working with them to see how that goes. A+ folks! read more

DO NOT get blinded by their very competitive prices. Over the phone, Michael was friendly and gave a quick estimate. Came by for an accurate assessment in person. Told him we were moving on a Saturday morning, so had to get the whole house floors cleaned on the Friday before- booked the appointment. Friday afternoon, Michael and his buddy arrive and start carpet cleaning. 2 hours later says that the stone cleaning equipment is broken so can't get it until Tuesday. Uh ok. So we paid the portion for the stone flooring as well and our realtor would work out date/time for them to finish the job. (Now before anyone rags on us for prepaying - we figured we'd had good experience with him so far and we were moving out of state, so it just made sense.) Soon afterwards Michael became very very hard to reach by myself, my wife AND the realtor. And when we finally did, the cleaning went from Tuesday to the weekend to the following Wednesday morning. They never showed up. For the last week or so, my wife and I have emailed him, called and left messages and even heard someone pick up and hang up - NOTHING. To summarize: - Didn't have his credit card reader even though he said he took credit card. - Carpet cleaning equipment - mobile and small. Not the professional truck type. So probably got a very basic cleaning as stains and any crushed areas in the carpet from furniture were still very much there. - Stone cleaning equipment unavailable. If you can't get the equipment for the scheduled job, shouldn't you let your customer know BEFOREHAND? Would've been overlooked if the issues that followed didn't happen. - Went MIA when it came to the 2nd part of our cleaning. Or is simply ignoring our calls and emails. So all in all, Michael never completed the work that was promised and paid for. Seems to us, he's willing to ruin his reputation over about $150. Do yourself a favor and go with a professional company with the proper equipment. read more

I've used Mike before to clean my apartment. He was on time, fast and quick. I have never seen the carpet so clean in years -- not even when I moved in there! Everyone thought I had purchased new carpet, and when I told them I got it cleaned nobody believed me till they looked at the pattern. Totally recommend. read more

I am extremely disappointed. I had made an appointment with sears in Santa Barbara, Ca but they played with their rates. Mike of California Sons returned my call and offered to match Sears rates. Told me that they would spot treat the rug, wash it, rinse it and extract the remaining water and that it would only take 3-4 hours to dry. Well ... they arrived at 9:15 AM on time and left around 10:30 AM. It is now 9:30 PM and all the rugs are still soaked. I called at 3 pm to ask for help in solving the problem and all i got were excuses, like it was colder here when he left (it was 80+ degrees from noon to 4 pm). Mike clearly misrepresented the drying time as he knows that once he does the job and gets paid ... well - it is too late, your stuck. Not only that, the rugs and water feel very oily or soapy, you know that feeling when you have soap on your feet and the tile floors feel slippery. If he even did a rinse, he did not do a good one. If he extracted water, he did not extract much. If you do not know this, if there is soap residue left in the rug this residue tends to attract more dirt. The machine he used was not, i repeat, was not a powerful truck mounted unit, but only a large portable unit. My furniture is still outdoors unprotected as i can not put them on a wet rug. My place is still wet and can not be used. I am very disappointed and mad. I am worried that there is so much water that it will not be dry by the morning. I now even question the reviews he has on yelp! It would not surprise me if they were all friends that made them up or for whom he did a special job so they would write 5 star reviews. The fact that he includes 5star review in his printed ads tend to support this view in my opinion. Only 5 reviews and all 5 stars, not normal - I do not believe it! It is not worth taking him to small claims court over $110, but I should. I would never use him again ... If you read this and you still want to use him ... well ... you can do what you want ... *** 24 hour update*** It has now been 24 hours since the "cleaning" was finished and most of the rugs are still damp and soapy. Mike did not call me back yesterday late afternoon as promised. He verbally offers a 30 day guarantee, but as of yet is not backing up his guarantee with action. read more

Michael came WITHIN THE HOUR! Fantastic work, GREAT guy. Already booked again for November. Love this company! He did use a self contained unit and my very dirty carpet now looks brand new. We had our carpet finished at 7:00 pm and it's now 7:00 am and it's still only slightly damp. I have used Chem Dry with exactly the same results so don't believe them when they say that they dry in a few hours, that's Not true in my experience. With CA Sons, my carpet is spotless and my house smells GREAT, I paid less and he's a reputable, good guy. read more

Don't be fooled by the photos. I found this company on craigslist and hired them to clean my carpet. By far Michael did the worst job of any carpet cleaner I've ever hired. When he left the traffic areas were still soiled. And during the "cleaning" process light and dark streaks were created in the carpet that did not go away after the carpet dried. I'd like to be forgiving and later write that California Sons returned to inspect and redo the spots, but the company scheduled to return but never showed up. When I called to find out why no one arrived Michael said he's running late but would be there -- no one arrived that day or the next day or ever. Before choosing California and Sons I checked YELP without signing in and saw one review which was positive. After the cleaning, I signed on to Yelp first then searched for California Sons reviews. While signed on I saw many more views including several ONE STAR - NEGATIVE REVIEWS that did not appear before. I hope the company returns to re-clean my carpet completely so I can attest to their competence and trustworthiness in the future! read more

I had a very unpleasant experience with this company. I wanted to get my carpet cleaned before I had my third child and looked at the reviews and thought I'd give this company a chance. I called and Michael responded promptly and gave me a quote of $290 over the phone for 2 couches and first floor carpet cleaning. When he arrived with his associate on time he was very cordial and asked if we could make it $300 even. Even though he quoted me over the phone at $290 I thought, hey; what's another $10. Again him and his associate were very cordial and friendly and I was told the carpet and couches would be dry in 3-4 hours. My kids were at the grandparents for the weekend and I had my dog upstairs. I had every window open and the fan running on high blast for over 36 hours and the carpets were still damp and starting to get musty. They came on a Friday morning and I called them on Saturday to tell him about the problem I was having but Michael was on his honeymoon. By Sunday even with the fans STILL running and windows STILL open my couches and carpet were smelling musty. With my kids coming back and a new baby on the way; this was not a good situation. I had to call out another company to "fix" the botched job. The company I called showed me what they extracted from my carpet after this company and it was filthy. I called Michael's associate to have him call me back. When I talked to him on the phone (a week later) he would not refund my money. He wanted to come back but I would not let him saturate my carpets again. He literally blamed me (kindly I might add) for not ventilating properly and having kids or pets on the damp carpet. He also insulted me by bringing up the fact that he had high profile clients in the past who had never complained. I don't believe it. I may be joe smoe but I've had my carpets steam cleaned by many different companies and I don't have to be Michael Jackson (yes he claimed he provided his services to the deceased) to know that he didn't do it right and could have ruined the padding under my carpet. STAY AWAY! I even asked him to compromise and give me 1/2 of what I paid him back and he refused saying he doesn't do that. He told me he would call me back and let me know either way what he would decide to do to rectify the situation. My third child is now over a year old and wouldn't you know....I'm still waiting for that call. read more

Mike helped me out in a very stressful moment. I had been renting two beautiful houses for a family reunion. In beknowst to me, the teenagers staying in one of the house, had tracked in tar and dirt all over the pure white carpet. I discovered this on a Saturday a few hours befor the owner was to return. Mike saved the day. He was curteous, prompt, responsible, and calming. Not only that, the carpet came out great. Terrible company, don't use them!!! I had hired them to clean my house before I moved in. They sent out two guys who were suppose to bring their own supplies. The supplies were a broken down vacuum, a washcloth and a bottle of all purpose cleaner. I warned them that the house was quite dirty and was willing to pay extra to have it cleaned before I moved in. When the guys finished, you couldn't tell any cleaning was done. I wasn't home to review the work and release them. As soon as I got to the house, and saw how dirty everything still was, I called Michael immediately. I tried to cancel the check, but the guys ran to the bank to cash it so I was unable to stop payment. He offered to send out a new crew, but when I called back to schedule this, he avoided my calls. When I did connect finally and scheduled a time for someone to come back, I had rearranged my schedule only to be still waiting for the cleaning lady..... I called him again, but he avoided my calls (no big surprise). So I'm out $200, and in search of a reputable and honest company who stands behind their work! The one star I gave was too much, and was only given because Yelp required it! Find a different company, these folks cannot be trusted with your business!!! read more
