Signed my child up for a one week cheer and tumbling class and would never come back here based on our experience. - They send ONE email when you register for the class and then no other information is provided. In that email, they had old covid protocols from 2020. They really need to update their "welcome" information for parents. - The class is for ages 5-12 and they keep the kids together. The problem with this is that 5 year olds do not have the attention span or understanding as the older kids. To have them all together and essentially "punish" the older kids to hold a "stretch" position until the younger kids are able to catch up is not right. They need to split kids up by age groups and create a more positive learning experience. - Coach Sam is not someone who exhibits a positive cheer attitude. Both my child and my friend's child came back home talking about how mean she was. These camps are intended to be fun, she did not make it fun or treat the kids with respect. In the time when I was there, I also observed her lack of kindness. - Sign in and sign out process is a joke, they do not even check when you pick up your children. This is not safe, they should check when each child is picked up by an appropriate guardian especially if it's a camp setup like this. - Several children were new to cheer/tumlbing and needed help with the basics such as how to do a cartwheel, the "teachers" did not provide any help. They just told the kids to keep trying and to not interrupt them when they are working with other kids. How is a child supposed get help? Kids enjoy what they have to offer, but their expensive and constantly after your money for every little thing they make up. We not new to extra curriculum programs, but look out for your bank account and know what you signing up for financially and literally if you send your child here. And there not the friendliest, cordial at best, only kept my kid there long as I did because she loved the program and interaction with the other kids. read more

This place places cheer above everything else in life. I'm all for kids competitive sports, but also believe it can be taken too far. My 9 year old daughter was on one of the teams a year ago. She never missed a single practice because I knew the commitment we were making, even though other kids missed practices fairly often on her team. A few weeks before the first competition they said the kids needed some extra work so they changed the practice time a few days prior to it and extended it by an hour or two. We were in the process of adopting our daughter that week and had a big party for friends and family to celebrate the adoption on the same day as the practice. When they changed the time, I reached out to the coach to let her know I would have to pick my daughter up early because she was being adopted the day before and we had this party planned for the day of practice. She would not have missed the originally scheduled practice because I made sure the party was later in the day. She was just going to miss a portion of it because they had made a decision to change the time that week with a few days notice. When I told the coach we would have to leave early, I received a message telling me how important these practices were and she asked me if I could move the party to another time. She literally was asking me to move a party to celebrate a once in a lifetime event my daughter had been waiting years for that had people flying in from around the county so she could stay an extra hour at practice. She went on to tell me how we had made a commitment and how my daughter was letting the team down. I couldn't believe it. I unenrolled my daughter that day. I felt bad for the position it put the team in but that is not the type of organization we wanted to be aligned to. After taking my daughter out, she told me that she was glad we did so because she felt bad about herself after every practice because of how the coaches yelled at them. It was sad to hear but definitely reinforced my decision. We have since found a new place to focus on tumbling and it has been so much better! read more

Two of our kids joined Cheer teams at CSE and love it so far. Overall, the entire process was very easy, straight forward and smooth. Both my girls love their coaches and look forward to cheer every week. My 13 year old often doubts herself but I truly felt like CSE immediately noticed that trait about her and continues to encourage her to try and learn new skills. My main interaction has been with Coach Jess so far and she is always super helpful and available for questions and concerns. I also love how CSE plans team bonding events for the older girls which really strengthens team work and making connections with other girls on the team. I have also seen the owner Chris interact with a few girls during practice a few times and really liked how he ensured that all the athletes have proper form and learn skills the right way. When our 12 year old soccer player announced that she wanted to try out for middle school cheer, we were a little surprised. Being that she had zero cheer experience, I started an online search. Gymnastics? Tumbling? Dance classes? How do I prepare this kid? Then I stumbled upon the Try Out Triumph Class at CSE. Our daughter attended the Cheer Prep class, Try Out Triumph, and the eventually a Jumps class. I've felt out of place at some gyms, and dance studios. It was not like that at CSE at all. We felt welcomed in from the moment that we stepped in the door. Our daughter's coach was Sam. She said she appreciates all of the specific direction, all of the feedback, and how Sam was always super nice- even when giving needed constructive criticism. She practiced once a week from Jan-Mid May, and she DID earn her spot on the middle school cheer team! We're very grateful for all of the excellent guidance. Summary: . Let me start by just saying California Spirit Elite is absolutely amazing! The moment you walk thru those doors you immediately feel a welcoming home vibe. Even when I called to sign my daughter up Jess was super nice and helped with every single question I had and made me very knowledgeable of how there program works. I picked CSE because they made you feel like family from the jump. Yesterday was my 3 year olds first day of Tumbling and she absolutely loved it!!!!! My daughter talked about how much she loved Coach Carina and how amazing she was for hours (literally) she even cried her eyes out because she did not want to leave! Coach Carina did not once give up on my little one when she couldn't get her tumbling right she would have her try again until she got it right. I have had my daughter in gymnastics since she was one and the gym we were at before was literally a free for all no structure what so ever. It Never felt like home. CSE has structure and a constant routine. If your looking for an amazing gym that feels like home I highly suggest CSE because the staff is absolutely amazing! Our daughter has been here for most of the last 2 years. Here's what I'd like you to know: 1st their staff is well trained and concerned with the kids both for cheer skills and life skills. 2nd they take safety seriously whether that's Covid or skills development. 3rd they are really family-oriented, your child will make friends but so do the parents. Several friends say it's too much money to spend on one activity but I don't agree. They get a lot of gym time and if you break it down to an hourly fee it's actually a good value. My daughter is getting great physical activity, she is learning about being on time, overall time management, teamwork, discipline, how to work through conflicts positively if they arise, plus when we travel I'm teaching her about all the things that go along with that. Plus since it is a competitive sport she is learning the joys of winning and sometimes how to deal with the disappointment of not doing well. read more

After over 2 years we needed to pull the plug on this gym. I thought I'd give it a 2nd year in their elite cheer program, being it was rough coming out of Covid. This last year was even worse. I honesty don't know where to begin. We were told by the owner to make a higher level team, my daughter had to achieve certain tumbling skills. She did just that, only thanks only to a coach there named Jim (who is wonderful). She made the next level up and was happy her hard work paid off. Unfortunately other athletes who didn't achieve the requirements or have goals got moved up as well. This lead to the team unable to fully perform at their level, leading to constantly losing competitions most of the season. The coaches didn't care or accept they had a team that couldn't live up to the level requirements and constantly ridiculed the girls abilities, called them names and had them in tears many times, including just before going on stage. Parents asked for apologies and never got one after a major verbal bashing while in LA. The coaches have been over the top harsh and verbally abusive throughout this entire season. We were told they would get to go to additional competitions if they got fully paid bids (they got one) but yet they never went and were robbed of the opportunity to cheer agains other gyms in their "league" and possibly win. The coaches pushed for the teams to go to Orlando instead, the biggest event in cheer in the US. This is designed for teams who are top in the of their division (which they are not even close). This is approximately $6K (fees, airfare, hotel, food, admission, Uber rides etc.) additional, yet "optional". You as a parent not only pay for yourself, but they collect funds to pay for the coaches, meals, hotel and airfare. The owner allowed the team mom to collect a vote, yet the vote was presented to the parents - Orlando yes or no? None of the other options were presented, leaving all the parents confused and left in the dark. If you opt out you are told your season is done and not to come back. This brings me to traveling. I guess there is no code of ethics for the coaches when traveling (while on the parents dime). While one coach continued to drink so heavily, inappropriately coming on to a guest of mine, slurring her words, and falling all over the place in the restaurant bar, all this while in front of the kids / athletes. This is the same coach who also brings her child to the gym while the parents feel bad and end up watching her unruly kid. Not to mention she will discipline him so harshly having the poor child in tears and then takes him in a bathroom to "discipline him" even more. On "bring a friend" day my daughter invited her friend who used to attend this gym (is now in the Livermore gym) was told to leave and the they said she was not allowed in the CSE gym. It was sad, she only wanted to say hello and visit her old gym. She had to call her mom from the parking lot (in tears) to come pick her up early. One day from the door way, unbeknownst to coach Shalia, I had witnessed her yelling and ridiculing the team. The owner then blew past me and went up and whispered in her ear, she turned around, looked at me and changed her tone immediately. This behavior is clearly known by the owner yet not discouraged unless a parent is present. Evidently there was one teammate that wasn't eating so instead of handling the issue between that athlete and her parent they made it public to the entire team making it mandatory they had to to start keeping a food log and posting photos of 3 meals a day, those who did not had to do extra conditioning. This went on for several months. Thanks CSE for making this a issue for everyone... how inappropriate. The last thing I allowed for them to say to my daughter was. "Oh your going to try high school cheer, you're going to hate it, the girls are bitches and your going to be out in the heat". Love cal spirit! My daughter was on the 1/2 year cheer team and learned a lot! She's taken a variety of classes there to improve her tumbling as well as a few private lessons. She's improved so much! Great with younger kids! My daughter loved the 50/50 cheer class. Her tumbling made progress, she loved the tumble track and could perform 8 counts with cool pompoms. Due to distance we go to a little closer gym now for cheer teams, but CA Spirit will always have a special place in our heart. read more

This is the third year my grand-daughter has been at CSE. We are very pleased with this gym. First let me say that they offer levels available to meet different financial and time requirements for each family. The first year, our grand-daughter participated on a team that competed locally. The next year she decided this was where she wanted to put her extra time so she joined a full year, travel team. We can't keep her away from the gym! We really appreciate that she is learning in a safe environment with coaches that know what they are doing and have such a good attitude when working with the kids and parents. So thankful to have found Cal Spirit! If your daughter would like to obtain and perfect tumbling and cheer skills, this is the place!! We have tried numerous gyms and coaches as our daughter needed to get her back handspring for high school cheer. We wasted so much time at these other gyms. She started taking from Phil at Cal Spirit, and after just a few private lessons she had it! Phil teaches the girls correct technique and methodically takes them step by step. He pushes them, increases their confidence, and teaches them the right way to tumble. He is an awesome coach!! I only wish we had started here sooner. Chris York, the owner, is amazing with the girls and his positive and encouraging attitude is reflected by the entire staff we met there. Chie, the office manager is great, and he makes you feel right at home.
