An amazing gymnastics school!!! My daughter has been training for 5 years at multiple schools overseas and in the U.S. She has had many positive experiences and worked with many coaches and Diablo has been her favorite place to train. Coach Katie and a few of the younger coaches create a very positive and encouraging environment for the kids to learn. Even with all of her training, my daughter improved her technique quickly with Coach Katie's guidance. All of the girls on the team were super welcoming and very helpful by giving my daughter tips and making sure she blended in right away. Every week, she looks forward to practice and always wants to make sure we arrive early and finishes with a huge smile on her face. Coach CJ runs a great program, as an experienced and accomplished gymnast, knows how to evaluate kids to make sure they slot into the right level. It was hard to get in. Waitlisted for almost 4 months before being told the summer session was starting and we would have to reapply to be on the waitlist (if we didn't get into a class). However, I got on at midnight of the summer session sign ups for new customers and got both of my kiddos in. So besides that hurdle, we're a month in and my kids are hooked. My oldest hasn't been very interested in sports (and we have tried a lot over the years). Gymnastics was one she actually asked to do. She's building skills and gaining confidence. My youngest (we're in the parent participation class) loves it. I love being right there for her when she completes a new task. So much pride. Ms. Erika is fun and enthusiastic with the littles. We attended Diablo Gymnastics pre-Covid and were very excited when in-person classes re-opened this past Summer. My twin girls really enjoy the exercises they are working on and I have noticed the growth and progression as the skills are practiced and refined over time. As this is an indoor sport, Covid protocols are taken seriously and while that's not a huge factor for me, I know some people would really appreciate that. The team seems like one big family and from what I can tell, they have a long-established rapport and that is evident in the way they care for us as their students and families. It's very close to five stars. I wanted to be enrolled here for awhile to make sure I have an accurate picture. We're almost finished with my younger daughter's second session and my elder daughter's first session. I doubt that my kids will become serious gymnasts, though you never know. But I feel Diablo would be a great place for those who want to compete as well as those who are in it for the fun and exercise. It's a big warehouse, in which all the gymnast equipment is spread around in different areas. While my three year old is practicing forward rolls in one section, my six-year old is working on the kid-sized high bar or practicing cartwheels elsewhere. I can watch both from a nice loft above the floor, as well as watch the remarkable teenage gymnasts flying through the air and working on their form. The loft is equipped with adult and kiddie chairs, and a few toys for the sibs to play with. The teachers are great with the kids. In the beginning, my younger kept wandering off and picking up the mats. I was ready to pull her out and wait another year. But they gently insisted that she follow the instructions, and after a couple of weeks, she was more focused, into the routines nicely and having a blast. read more

My daughter has been coming here for almoat a year now. Since she started, she has improved so much. I could see how much stronger she is in pulling herself up to get to high places. If I could give Diablo 500 stars I would. Our daughter has been going to this gym for many years, from recreational classes to competing for the gym. Every coach she has had has been very helpful, positive and encouraging. The team coaches have been AMAZING. They are great examples and mentors for the gymnasts and are the type of responsible young women we all hope our girls grow up to be. Through a school fundraiser I bought a gift certificate for a full month of classes for my 3 year old daughter. The place is efficiently and pleasantly run by a lady. The teachers are very young (high school age? College?), but are good with the kids and patient. There is usually a teacher and a helper with the classes (preschool age) and that seemed to be a good ratio. But I did notice that there was less hands on help than I would have liked particularly with beginners or children that had participation issues (like my daughter). My daughter went to 3 of the classes. She was shy each time but would participate. I thought I had found something she liked (she was excited to go every week) so paid for full tuition for the next month. On the very next visit, she refused to join in with the other kids. She may have joined eventually with patient coaxing (which is what she needs) but really I can understand that this is not really feasible for a class with multiple children (all of whom have needs). I had to pull my daughter out of swim lessons for the very same reason. Lady at the front desk was very understanding about it and canceled tuition with no fuss at all. She invited us to try again in a few months. The facility itself is decent. Lots of equipment and well set up for young gymnasts. There are a couple of viewing areas for parents. The only issue is that the drop off area is narrow and gets quite chaotic. read more

Horrible experience. Parents be aware. Coach at the school terrorized my 3 years old son to the point where he was crying. It was his 2nd class. She was sitting on her behind the whole time not helping any children expecting the little children to do every single obstacle without any help or assistance. Very angry person taking out her frustration on the kids. She told him he cannot participate in the class and to go to me after he skipped some obstacles. My normally very tough little boy was crying so hard and told me that he simply doesn't know how to do these obstacles. This whole time I was watching because my got told me there's something wrong. As I was walking him back to where all of the kids in school do a activity together on the end of class she spoke up to my son in front of everyone and said that "you're not welcome here". My story: My son has just turned 4 and I wanted to sign him up for a fun and exciting class. My friend has introduced me to this place and we had a trial session. I signed him up and after signing all the agreements and rules he started his 40 mins class once a week. After the 2nd class, I had to call today and withdraw him from the class. I have lost the $35 annual fee plus $10 credit card refund penalty for getting back my next month's payment and ended up extremely disappointed. The reason: My son's class was at 9:40 am. He is 4. Have I mentioned that before? Most 4-year-olds have an endless amount of energy at that time and if they find themselves at a vivid and vast place such as a gymnastics studio they will go crazy running around. Correct me if I'm wrong! The teacher is amazing but my son won't remember and avoids instructions. If I want to tune him in to do something I do it in a fun and subtle way. If I say: "Clean up your toys!" ( he's nowhere to be found) If I say: "let's put these in a basket as fast as Flash!" It is done in no time. The whole class time he was distractedly running and then the teacher was calling his name to get his attention. He was not following into the class rhythm. I don't say this was not a good class, obviously, it did not work for me, but the reason I'm down to ONE STAR is the admin office. I should have listened to my inner voice on day one. The front desk lady gave me papers to sign before even asking my name. No curriculum explanations, all I was informed was their payment options and penalties if I'm to opt out. When I called to drop the class the front desk asked me about the reason and after I was done explaining all she said was: "it will be $10 to get your refund, have a nice day!" She had no comments, no suggestions or care for my problem with their class! I read more

Meh. I really wanted to like Diablo Gym. Our friend sends her kids and I wanted our girls to go together but our experience at the trial was so meh, it just wasn't worth even trying again. The 5 years old have a 1:8 or maybe even 1:9 ratio which would be fine IF the instructor actually engage the children. In our trial class they had 7 stations set up, one being the rope that the instructor had to hold onto for the girls climbing it, so she was unable to walk around and provide any guidance to the other girls at other stations. Additionally, 7 stations is FAR too many stations for 5 year olds to remember, especially without any guidance. These girls were doing their best to go to the right areas but it was a little hopeless. Periodically the instructor would call out a command to one of the girls but she mostly seemed annoyed and bored. My child is no super gymnast. I just want her to learn some type of proper form. What's the point of paying $17 a class so that your child can slam her body on a mat while trying to do a cartwheel if she's not going to get guidance on how to try to do it correctly. Not worth the money. We went somewhere else with a smaller ratio and instead of one 7 station circuit they do 2 to 3 circuits with 2-4 stations and a teacher who walks around and helps all the kids. read more

I was not impressed with the program. I enrolled both my daughters in separate classes. First, There were too many kids in the class to provide any instruction. They have them move through obstacle type courses, but never taught them how to properly do anything. My one daughters teacher obviously couldn't do a cartwheel herself. She would just tell the kids, "here you do a cartwheel", but never showed how to do it or tips to improving their cartwheel. After six months when my daughters still couldn't do a simple cartwheel we quit. If I am paying 20.00 each a class per kid, I expect professional gymnastic environment. I don't expect my kids to be Olympic athletes, but something! Ironically, My friends 10 year old daughter was over one evening and taught them how to cartwheel in 10 mins! read more

The classes have gotten too many kids!!! One instructor for 9 kids is WAY TOO many!!! My two daughters and I love this place. The instructors are friendly and courteous. It is clean and a nice atmosphere. They actually have air-conditioning which helps both me and my daughters while they train. We love Diablo Gymnastics! My daughter has been going to the Mommy-N-Me 2-3 year old class for the past 6 months. Our teacher is Ms. Patti and we couldn't be happier. Patti is amazing with the little kiddos. She gives each one some special attention, her directions are easy to follow, she models what she wants the kids to do, and my daughter loves it. Everyday she wakes up she asks to go to gymnastics. Each week there is a different theme and set of activities. The class starts off with a whole group warm up, a 1:1 activity where the other kids have to sit and wait their turn (great for this age), then it goes into 2-3 activities where the children practice different skills. At the end of class they do another whole group activity where fine motor skills are practiced, along with direction following. We love Ms. Patti and Diablo Gymnastics!!! read more

My daughter started gymnastics here in September 2017. She loved her coach, Tessa and even after breaking her arm at school (unrelated), she came back and quickly leveled up. My daughter has worked with other great coaches throughout this time, Erika, Amanda, Gracie, Jeena, Sydney, and now Faustina. I really love this place & so does my daughter. All of the coaches are so helpful and you can tell they are very passionate in their teaching/training of the younger generation. They have so many ways to get kids to focus on the small details of techniques so the skill can be mastered. [Although, I do have to add that each kids individual growth will depend on how much they practice outside of their sessions, and/or how invested the parents are in their learning/mastering of the skills and techniques.] The environment is welcoming. They have a small shop in the office if you'd like to purchase leotards, biketards, shorts, scrunchies, etc. and parents can even help themselves to a cup of coffee. There are two viewing areas for parents; bleachers on the main level and an upper level viewing area with padded folding chairs that has books & toys for other children who may not be participating. There's also a smaller back gym area and that area also has a small viewing area. They offer recreational classes, summer programs, mens/boys classes (I think, I haven't needed to inquire about this), and even private 1-on-1 coaching sessions. Class sizes are manageable and they offer a wide range of days/time slots for sessions, depending on the skill level. They recently repainted the entire gym to update the space and all their equipment looks well maintained. Diablo does have a few different levels of competitive teams. They also host annual events so the kids can showcase their efforts & everything they've been practicing to family/friends. I highly recommend this gym. If you and/or your child(ren) are on the fence. Don't hesitate, go and talk to the office. They offer a free trial class so you can see if it will be a good fit. read more

Looked into 3 different Contra Costa gyms when my daughter aged out of the Community Center tiny tots lessons. Didn't go to Encore even though it is much closer because my daughter'sfriend fractured her elbow there and a classmate from school broke her arm - both in a 6 month period. Diablo is well run and at least half of the instructors are adults, which is a plus for me. They keep the kids under tight supervision and are quick to move a child up when they feel her skills have outgrown the group she is currently in. As gyms go, good level of cleanliness and it does not smell. read more

My 2 and 4 year olds used to take classes at Bay Aerials when we lived in Fremont. After moving to Dublin, we looked for another gymnastics school closer to us. I was initially discouraged by Diablo's mediocre rating, but I decided to give it a try anyway, especially since there were classes available for both kids in the same time slot. I was very happy that we went. For me, the kids will be doing pretty much the same moves wherever you go - jumping, tumbling, etc. - so what makes the difference is the instructors. Both instructors, plus Patty at the front desk, were friendly, engaging, and welcoming. I would recommend giving this place a try. read more

My daughter started lessons here in June 2017 and has become and enthusiastic gymnast since! She even asked Santa to bring her a set of bars so that she can practice at home. I appreciate how the instructors vary the lessons and equipment used each week to keep things fresh and interesting for the kids. I also appreciate how they spend a lot of time warming up before each lesson, as this helps instill the importance of proper stretching before exercise. My ten year old has shown definite improvement in her confidence and skills in the six short months we've been part of this gym, so I'm grateful we chose this one to try when she first expressed interest in gymnastics. I have been meaning to write this review for a while and only now am getting around to it. Upon moving to the area a year ago, we were looking for a gym for my level 5 daughter to continue competing with, and Diablo was recommended to us. After evaluating her, they said that she could join the their level 5s, but there was no way teat she would be ready to compete in time for the season, so she would just be working on skills. 3 weeks into her experience there, she started coming home crying saying that all they were doing was making her do strap bar by herself, and work skills all alone. This is coming from a 9 year old child that has been doing gymnastics since 2, and never complained once. The following week, I received a call from the gym director telling me that my daughter just wasn't "gettiing it" and that they wanted to move her down several levels to a non competitive, developmental level. I immediately told them that this was not acceptable, because she had already been competing for 2 years, and there was no way that she was going to take that huge step back. I pulled her from the gym, and found another area gym that evaluated her, placed again with the level 5s, and had her training to compete, and ultimately competition ready within a month. It is my opinion that the coaches at Diable are lazy, and simply did not want to put in the time or effort required to prepared my child for meet season, as it was clearly possible (exemplified by our current gym). Many times I would come to observe, or early to pick up and would see the coaches sitting around on the floor, or on mats, "instructing", sometimes holding and babysitting another coaches baby at the same time! Additionally, the facility is dark, and does not feel well kept up or clean. I would not recommend this facility to anyone looking to find a gym on a competitive level. read more

We used to enjoy bringing our daughters here to learn. We now have a younger gymnast and are pulling her out. The level of instruction has diminished. The teen instructors do not give the detail instruction needed. Kids bored and not learning. Very disappointed. Kids only advance based on age and not capability. I was not overly impressed by Diablo Gymnastics. I didn't think the teachers necessarily focused enough on the children (for example when we changed gyms my daughters ability improved dramatically, immediately, reflecting on the coaching). They appear distracted and just don't have their hearts in it. The facility, also, in comparison with nearby gyms, is unappealing, dark, not very clean and poorly structured for pick up and drop off, which is unsafe. The kids who go there are fine, wonderful children, I just think the gym itself is so-so, very middle of the road. read more

Diablo Gymnastics puts on the best gymnastics recitals! Their "flip flop follies" have so much thought and creativity put into them and the kids all looked they had a ball doing it. This is a great, clean, safe gymnastics club. There is a real family vibe at Diablo Gymnastics. Many of the coaches have been there almost as long as the gym, and you can tell they love what they do. My children have taken classes on and off for almost five years, and I can see them building a foundation for any sport or activity they choose in the future. My 4 year old has been at Diablo Gymnastics for the last two years. She started off a little hesitant about participating but Miss Patty made her feel right at home and got my daughter excited about the class quickly. It almost immediately became her favorite activity! I love how active the class is! They are constantly moving the whole time. From music, to decorations, to stations, every week is a new theme that my daughter looks forward to. The kids get to do every type of gymnastics activity in a creative way and they get to use their imagination! My oldest daughter has attended classes at Diablo Gymnastics since she was 2. She is now almost 8 and looks forward to going every week. Now my youngest daughter who is 4 goes there and loves it just as much. Ms. Patti is a name we use often in our home and my children absolutely adore her. The patience she has with all of her students is amazing. No matter their aptitude or level she makes them feel special. Even though my oldest daughter is no longer in her class she makes sure to check in with her and say hi when passing by. And Ms. Patti is always full of energy, making each class fun. My children always leave smiling. I read some of the negative reviews on this site and want to encourage anybody looking into this program to try it. I have had only positive experiences at Diablo gymnastics and we have had many different instructors and have attended for many years. I am 37 years old and have friends who attended this gymnastics school and now bring their children there, continuing a tradition of nurturing the self-esteem and fostering confidence in every child.
