Worst tanning place around. High prices and always trying to upsell me on stuff I don't need. I had one employee tell me a product I bought here wasn't the greatest and tried to make me buy expensive lotion. Also, every single time I am here, doesn't matter what time of day, there is always a line for the base bed. A good manager wouldn't want anyone to wait long and leave, if I was the manager I would have people use a different bed. But they just try to upsell to use another bed. I went in a person and I called them on the phone. I never received the email I just received the email today. They've been charging me every single month for something that I've never even used for the since of February 2025. This is now October they've been getting free money. I don't know if anybody else notice the changing of hours once again. When I first joined California Sun their hours were from 8 AM to 9 PM. Then they change their opening hours to 9 AM to 9 PM. During Covid they have change the hours from 10 AM to 8 PM stating from corporate office they change the hours due to extra cleaning needed. I have spoke too several locations asking them what time they arrive in, what time do they have to stay over to clean. The employee starthour before opening and 1/2 hour after closing. I feel were being taken advantage of by California Sun Center corporate office. They should be ashamed of themselves saying that they are doing extra cleaning during the Covid but I don't feel that that's true it's just less hours that they need to pay employees to be able to save money in their pocket. Always the nicest employees waiting to greet me as soon as I walk into (Lincoln CA) "California Sun". Employees there are so beyond helpful and they always seem happy to work there. It's always super quick to get checked in and get tanning which is great. I have the spray tanning package there. I always get my usual, bronze PH airbrush spray tan and it turns out gorgeous every time. I've never, not once, had a bad experience at CALifornia Sun! It's definitely the best tanning place and overall business I've ever tanned at. (And I used to work at At The beach lol ) Unfortunately I can't tan in any tanning beds anymore due to cancer running in my family... but I'm so obsessed with the new airbrush spray tanning machine they have. The machine is actually fun, quick, and super updated with its technology. I forget what the name is of it tho? Anyways, I'm always walking in feeling welcome and walking out feeling confident with a radiant bronze spray tan! California Sun is one of those business strategies that hooks you in, and then make it extremely difficult for you to discontinue services. I was straight forward that I only wanted to use a subscription for one month and communication at the time was "that's fine just sign up." After you sign, there are extra fees ($60ish) that will accrue on the 20th. You're told to cancel before that date to avoid charges. I went in person to cancel before the 20th. After the employee went through the process and on her computer & I signed several times electronically she told me, "great, we froze the account and you'll be charged $5 a month." I reminded her I didn't want to freeze, I wanted to cancel. I was told in that case I would need to go online and fill out an application to cancel & someone will call me for an interview to get the reason why. (The reason is I just wanted to use it for a month and I knew that from the beginning!) I've also attached a picture of the tanning bed I used today, which appears to have dead skin or dandruff accumulated at the head of the bed. Update: Someone calls you to cancel. They tell you "normally we can't cancel the membership unless you've been using it for 30 days but we'll make an exception." (Remember, you are also told to cancel before the 20th or you'll accrue new fees.) I got called again later and someone tried to explain to me that my picture on yelp is of "chipped black paint." You can look at the photo and decide. Also, they ask for your signature several times when you inquire on your account, and they never show you what you're signing on the computer. The reviews aren't wrong about this place. Despite them being terrible, I decided to stop in to see for myself. I only need to tan for ONE month before a vacation. That'll be $90 per month plus when you cancel it'll be another $30 but you can't just walk in and cancel, they're going to make that difficult too and charge you $5 a month until you jump through all the hoops in order to actually cancel. I feel bad for the ladies that are working here, they could have made a commission sale off of me today, but the company charges outlandish fees and makes it impossible to cancel. I recently decided to rejoin California son I used to tan a long time ago and having wanting to go back to it so I came in a week ago and has spoke to Cheyenne about all the questions I had and the benefits of some of the newer equipment they had like the red light and I decided to join on Wednesday she was very nice very efficient explaining the different memberships they have for example the California club gets here basic beds and it's $29 a month $29 down and the one I decided to go it was the ambassador that give me full access to the horsepower which I could spray tan I could use basic birds I could use the higher beds I could use the red light therapy beds and I could also use a massage beds which is very nice I recently was inquiring about red light therapy because I heard it does a Lotta good benefits for your body also Cheyenne was very helpful with explaining the different tanning lotion they have in the benefits the one I decided to go with was one by J wow I didn't just get it because she is a celebrity I got it because of the fact that it sound like the best results in a pretty affordable price because when you join you get when you get the ambassador you get 40% off so I decided to get the J well lotion which I have used Joel's products in the past and she has really great products very good ingredients one of my favorite from her was her one of her first lotions that came out which is the pink one which is one and done it was a great dark bronzer which it had a lot of gray ingredients in it I also decided to get the red light lotion which she could use in the red light bed and helps definitely very happy with the service I have received your very great salon very knowledgeable staff maybe feel at ease when re-joining California Sun I highly recommend California sign for anybody looking to join Tami club they are great they are really knowledgeable on all of their products they have available and also they have online if you sign up they give you a free day to try out a tanning to see if you like it which I tried last Saturday and was very happy with the results that I received I will definitely be coming back here again very soon from where future visits and we're great three sister come thank you California Sun in Lincoln thank you Cheyenne you were great and helpful I appreciate all the work you did I am definitely happy with the results I am seeing I will be back very soon thank you again read more

I have had a membership at California Sun Center for 15+ years, paying $70+ a month the entire time. I took advantage of a Promotion enticement of joining their Unlimited Tanning/Services for $59/month. Great deal. Also, I had my Husband join the minimal commitment monthly membership for $19.99/month(2-3 years my after sign up, +tan tax=$23-ish for the past 10+ years)A couple years into my membership, a "tan tax" was automatically added to my fees=$71. Not too bad of an increase, and I really enjoy Versa tanning so I suck it up. Roughly 2-3 years ago, I was offered another form of a current promotion that STILL was not better than my executive membership. The CalSun worker (at the same time trying to upsell me without realizing I had an amazing set up as is) informed me that I was in possession of a Super Amazing Membership that I had been "Grand-Fathered" into. She explained to me that since I have consistently paid my monthly dues&never let it lapse or go haywire, that I could keep my membership AS IS indefinitely forever. I Respected&Embraced that advice &kept my monthly fees paid&handled any annual paperwork promptly and credit card expiration problems were kept at bay. I have never been SO paranoid of potential problems and been "on Top of It" as I have been with my Executive membership. Truly respecting my grand-fathered position. So, then arrives the Email on June 15, 2018, Friday@3pm. It stayed that my membership will be changing to the Ambassador membership that is available to anyone and everyone at Anytime. No More $20 per month of store credit..... I called to talk to guest services about my length of my membership& all the efforts I did to maintain my promised benefits. I reasoned with her that I expected to be grandfathered into CalSun history()with many verbal confirmations by the workers. I got nowhere with my disgruntled plea, and eventually upgraded my conversation to a requested manager. She informed me NOT A THING I could do, not any compromise to honor prior business offerings; she seemed to be irritated &less-than-patient to even be having the conversation. "Nothing we can do for ya". Nada. "Sorry Ma'am". In summary, I was very disheartened with the whole situation and CalSun's respect for the committed members who have been a reliable staple for their business. I know the decision was made by the Owners/CEO to change the benefits to the loyal members& adjust their bottom-line: ca$h. I guess I had hoped they would value the committed memberships that have continued through the decades, but clearly not. The lack of recognition& appreciation for their Long-term members was astounding and an eye-opener for me. Disregarding the value of loyalty can also be seen by the crazy turnover rate of employees at every Cal sun I have been to. I know that CalSun can't appreciate the value of employee or Membership loyalty, but I am hoping to open their eyes. Gratitude& Appreciation can be contagious& karmic. I always go before vacation and always 2 times a week for 3 weeks, 6 tans and I'm done with nice base for vacation. This year when 8 times and my wife ask me today if I was going to the tanning bed because I looked like I had no tan at all. I went today and got a spray tan so it looks like I have a little tan. I ask the young gal about it and she said, yes they need and are going to replace the bulbs. So I called corp. office though maybe they would give me a free month because I wasted all this time going for nothing, excluding the money and she gave me a bunch of excuses and said the bulbs where good and they check them all the time. I said I have been going there 5 years and always get a tan so you better check them again, DON'T GO THERE IF YOU WANT A TAN. Wiped my bank account out bank account in error then refused to reciting mistake quoting I needed to wait 5 to 7 days for refund back to my account. My husband recently passed away of cancer and I have 5 children at home and work in the Sacramento area and work in Lincoln. I explained my situation but still a refusal to refund my money in a timely manner. I'm not sure how I am to put gas in my car due to their mistake. I love the manager here! She's talkative, stylish, and if I have any questions, she had answers... I spray tanned for the first time at another ca sun salon. I had told them it was my first time so please, tell me everything I need to know, or which mistakes to avoid. The other salon didn't do that. I came out with stained feet, stained palms, lol, and a line on my forehead. Here, the manager told me about about the lotion on the wall that I can rub on my cuticles and hands to avoid that brown color. She told me how to hold my hands while getting sprayed and she said most people put a towel down and stand on that to avoid the stain. I will get her name next time, but she was so helpful, and had been the most helpful since my spray tanning experience. This is the BEST SALON I've been to. BEWARE: Extremely shady business management!!!! I spoke with the young girl at the salon several times at the front desk about cancellation due to the fact that I sent in an online waver saying I would like to cancel. I remember it was on the 21st of July so she said it wouldn't apply until next month. I told her why I was canceling (moving three hours from nearest salon for employment) she said she would give them a call for me and see why I haven't heard anything. Few days later I had the same interaction with the same girl. Forward last day tanning, she said I should be all set but she would call again. I then moved. I have been charged every month. Called remedy the situation and they said this month would be my cancellation fee on top of the months I shouldn't have been charged. I just want to have the charges stopped and at least the month of September refunded. I would have paid the cancelation fees but I was never informed of them by the girl at the salon. Also, I filled out there online cancelation form maybe something is wrong with it and they should check it since I never received a call or email. They didn't tell me until halfway through the conversation that i was on a recorded line as well. They conducted themselves poorly I'm not asking for a refund for all the months but they should do something other than charge me more. I will also dispute the charges at my bank. If you have a job that changes never sign up with them they will not honor there words. Customer is not correct, good business would honor this not screw people over. No only are the managers rude, have no sense of urgency, the Corporate level is equally as bad. Canceling membership has been a big issue they lie and make it almost impossible to cancel. BEWARE: Shady business practices with this company. I had tried to downgrade for 4 months. I purchased the Presidential ($72 a month) package and had it for almost 2 years. Tried to downgrade and got continual run around. Not only from the ladies working at the store (which I do not blame them, they were as helpful as they could be), but also contact billing department on numerous occasions. I then FINALLY just put my account on HOLD which is $5 for the month. I did this on October 31st. On November 28th they took $72 for the month of NOVEMBER. I NEVER even walked in once in November. This place just wants your money, they do not agree to their own rules. I was unable to do anything at the store, have mailed in the notices as they requested, and nothing has happened. I have been a customer of this California Sun for years, and have never been treated with so much disrespect as I just was. For the past two months, I have been having nothing but issues with my daughter's account, and every time I go in, I have to wait for 40 minutes while they call and figure out the issue. I just went in to get the tan for my daughter's birthday, and they said that her account was terminated. AGAIN. I encountered a nice lady, that seemed like she was new, and the District Manager who's name was Amy. Amy called corporate and told me it was declined because of non-payment. I told her that they took the $60 out of my account for February and that we should have two more days to get a tan. She proceeded to tell me that they don't see anything on their end, and she doesn't know what to tell me. That I can pay the $40 sunless tan fee, or not get a tan. She also insinuated that my card was declined due to insufficient funds. I told her that it's my debit card, and that's not an issue. She was rude the whole time, but once I told her that the whole process of monthly memberships is terrible, she became even more rude and condescending, telling me in a rude voice that "she disagrees completely with me and that she has never had these issues before me." I was taken aback with how rude she was, so I told her that she's terrible at customer service and that she shouldn't be in her position. She proceeded to yell at me and told me that I had better leave or she would call "911" on me. What a joke. It's laughable that they have people like this in charge of customer service. All the other girls there are nice and professional, but yet the "manager" is the rude one? I have been a customer of theirs for 15 years, and I will never step foot in that place again. It seems like 50% of the time there is something wrong with my account and the poor sales person has to call Corp while I wait. If you do choose to tan here be prepared for this kind of stuff. This is my favorite California Sun location by far. The staff here is very helpful and friendly. This location has the new Versa machine, which is much better and more natural looking than the Mystic (in my opinion). There is also a decent selction of beds and the wait is never very long. Horrible experience! I arrived to tan at 12:00PM Front desk person was disgraceful. Terrible customer service the worst I have ever dealt with. I waited five minutes before I was even acknowledged. She was busy upgrading another customers package. AKA her commission was the priority. When I signed up for my package two weeks earlier she had no problem asking me to wait while she put existing customers into tanning beds (to which I was more than understanding as the process is lengthy). Today however she was solely focused on them for whatever reason. Another customer walked in and then she acknowledged us by saying "it's going to be a few minutes I have to call to see if I am able to upgrade their package" to which the other customer and I said "can't you put us in our beds first?" She said every bed was dirty and she was the only one there. Two more customers came in and she told them to go to Rocklin or Roseville location if they didn't want to wait because she was going to be at least 20 minutes before she could help them. One customer left one waited. Now there are four people waiting to tan and her response is "it's peak season and I am the only one working". Then Corp needs to fix that. She checked me in, I told her to put me in the same bed (mega) for the same amount of time, but said I had to wait a few more minutes so she could finish with her other customers and the bed was dirty. I said I will clean my own bed. She gave me the cleaner and the towel. I thoroughly cleaned the mega bed and then she came in the room and said I had cleaned the wrong bed that she was going to put the customer she was working with in that bed since she was "first". I told her that I only take eight minutes to tan that I would be out before they were finished with their paper work. She said "we are done" TEN more minutes go by as she still needed to collect the payment and the signatures and initials for their new terms of agreement. Clearly they were not done nor ready to tan like she claimed. I could have been in and out before they were even ready. I left at 12:32PM never got to tan, and extremely frustrated. I called corporate to complain and was assured it would be passed on to her district manager. Won't hold my breath. This is who they chose to have as their face and first line of service. read more

This company lies without hesitation, called me a lair accused my husband of stealing a gift card and kept charging my account even after I called AND mailed them a notice of cancellation.
