I used California Tree Design for two different projects, and I was very impressed by their work both times. Both projects included removal of dead brush, pruning of tall trees, and removal/stump grinding of large trees. We had the best experience! Chris came out to give us an estimate the same day we called and was incredibly knowledgable and helpful. When the crew came out to cut down our two larger trees it was clear, these guys are pros and we would totally recommend their business for any large tree removals. Extremely impressed with this company. I met with Peter who walked the property with me and identified/advised regarding pruning or removal. Their estimate was quite reasonable. Only one tree was removed that was fast growing onto the house and roof. There was on-site manager, Jorge who kept the team organized and was mature and trust worthy. This company is incredibly safe with rigging, helmuts and a well established safety culture amongst the guys. I have several large eucalyptus trees that needed trimming and wanted to find a licensed and reputable company to work on them. Frankie was able to come by the same day as my call, provide very detailed explanations of my options and offered a very reasonable quote. They were able to get an entire crew out the next day, arrived on time, and worked to trim the trees and dispose of the branches and clean up the area under trees. The team consisted of professional climbers and a ground crew who helped dispose of the branches. The work was beautifully done, and the final product was better than I anticipated. I should note they also did some work for my neighbor (who was also similarly satisfied and impressed). California Tree Design did some serious in my backyard this morning. Compared to the other tree-trimmers I've previously engaged, these folks are amazing! The trees are trimmed but they don't look like what most people think is tree pruning these days: Pruning which really should be called "tree butchering"! The trees, which included a large shade tree over a deck and Koi Pond, a row of mature, tall hedges along the back fence and fruit trees along an East wall of the yard have been cleaned-up, thinned out a bit and look natural! They don't look as if lunatics with the esthetics of 5 year-olds got their hands on tree-pruning tools and went at it. That's been my previous experience with the work of "professional" Gardeners and their "Tree Trimmers", who I paid to do it. California Tree Design really did what they say they will which is, "Enhancing the Beauty of Your Tree"! I've gone bargain cheap in the past with tree pruning services and the end results were ALWAYS way less than pleasing to look at for a year or more, until the trees filled out to cover the literal hack-job those cheap services did. It's an art to prune properly so you don't have to wait that year or more for a tree to grow out so it doesn't look like something out of a nightmare. "What the heck, it's only branches and limbs that need to be pruned and these cheap guys have the tools, ladders, climbing equipment will clean it all up and haul it off, so why not?" Well, I'll tell ya' why not - Because they'll do crappy jobs which look awful and might so damage your tree(s) that it'll take years before things start to look somewhat normal again, if they ever do. That's why not! If you were to came over right now, what you'd see are nicely shaped trees and a clean backyard with fruit trees along one side, a lawn in half of it, a hedge along the back and a large shade tree next to a Japanese-style deck overlooking a Koi Pond. There's no evidence a serious pruning of trees took place a few hours ago. I highly recommend California Tree Design. They're Licensed, Insured and have a certified Arborist on their staff. This team of professionals was working on my street at a neighbor's house, caught me leaving for work and asked if I would like an estimate for trimming our trees. I had been meaning to call someone to do this, so the "power of now" was set in motion. I made arrangements to meet the owner during my lunch break and Peter was waiting for me when I arrived to give me a quick estimate. After agreeing on the price, I was pleased to know that Peter's team could do all the tree trimming in my front and back yard while I was at work and would take care of moving anything that was in the way, and would clean everything up afterward. Outstanding Service When we hired California Tree Design, we got professionals that artfully trimmed, laced, shaped, and removed trees as directed by their in-house arborist. They showed up on time, cleaned up their debris, and respected our property and residents. Also, of significance to us, they showed they value their crew, they held regular safety meetings and provided continual onsite crew supervision. They are licensed and insured. We have continued to use their services and I anticipate hiring them again this fall. Most of our trees are 30 years old, the Pines are much older. All their work included setbacks from our townhouses and roof clearance. This is the work they have done for us most recently. 1 - Palm Removed. Palm had been planted in a planter box and had grown above the townhome roof. 8 - Magnolia Restored the health of a tree we thought would have to be removed and trimmed & shaped the rest. 34 - Pines Restored crowns and removed hazardous branches. The Pines that were impacting garbage truck clearance over the driveways had their crowns lifted. 39 - Jacaranda Restored the canopy of these trees and we've seen them seasonally bloom ever since. Laced for safety. 54 - Tristania Trimmed, thinned, and shaped and raised the crowns. 46 - Liquidambar By the time California Tree Design was hired our forest of Liquidambars had succumbed to disease and were endangering our community. They worked with us as we tried to keep as many as possible. Ultimately, they removed 30 and trimmed 16. We are fortunate to have an urban forest as part of our townhome complex. When a new HOA Board was established after 30 years we thought diligently about what characteristics we wanted in a new tree service company. After much research and comparing many recommended companies we chose California Tree Service. Peter Magana, owner and Christian Joseph, arborist, have been easy to work with and their advice and direction has given me confidence in the health of our trees and subsequently the safety to our community. There is something beyond the facts and figures and their professionalism that we got from hiring California Tree Design. It is the poetic beauty they left behind. I enjoy it most in the quiet morning when I walk our property observing the grandeur of the Pines, the delicate purple flowers of the Jacaranda floating down to carpet the lawn, and the amazing Magnolias that our squirrels love so much. I highly recommend California Tree Design! Our five birch trees needed pruning, as well as some trees in the back garden. I'd been advised to find experienced arborists for the birch trees, so after doing some research I called them on a Friday. Frankie responded quickly and set up a time to come on Monday. It was Peter, the owner (and Frankie's brother) who came to my door on Monday. What struck me immediately, both on my call with Frankie and when I met Peter, is how kind they both are! I showed Peter the trees that needed pruning and, since the guys who pruned my Chinese Elms a few months ago severely over-pruned them, he recommended a systemic fertilization application to keep them healthy. He is so knowledgeable and clearly loves what he does. He gave me an estimate, and I gladly hired them. Since they were already working nearby, they started the next day! Their entire team was efficient and respectful of my property (a far cry from the guys that butchered my elms). They did an excellent job - and also asked my neighbors on the street if they would like some work done on their trees while they were here. Everyone told me they very pleased with their work. I found this company on Yelp at 8:00 am this morning and contacted them for a quote. They have great reviews and I liked that. At 8:15 Peter called and said he'd like to send someone out. At 9:30 Chris was here talking to me about my needs for tree trimming and treatment for tree diseases. He gives me a quote and says he can have his crew do it today. At 11:30 a crew of about 6 or 7 guys show up with huge trucks and Chris shows them what needs to be done. At 1:00 my trees are beautifully trimmed and laced and the crew takes off (after doing a great job of cleaning up my yard and the yards of the neighbors on either side of me). It really doesn't get better than that, does it? The four trees look great, the guys were professional, the price was fair, I get to check it off my to-do list, and Peter even followed up to see if I was happy. I'm fussy and I'm happy. Had a couple projects at the house that required a tree service. Looked at the reviews on Yelp for servers tree service companies and decided on California Tree Design (CTD) for a three reasons. 1) they have a certified arborist, 2) their reviews are generally positive and 3) their listed services. Sent email to CTD on Saturday morning and Peter responded within 30 minutes... On a SATURDAY! Made an appointment for Monday morning at 8. Peter arrived about 7:55 and we got started surveying the needs of my trees. I have an approximately 40 year old avocado tree which needed an arborist's touch (Peter is a certified arborist) and a 60 foot tall deodara pine tree that suffered some broken branches during the last wind storm, plus two small trees that needed to be removed AND an overgrown cactus that had to go. Peter was able to provide me a verbal quote for the services right there, and immediately followed up with a written quote. Peter thought his crew might be able to get to my project within a couple days. After discussion with his forepersons, Peter called me back by 10 am and said a crew would be at my house noon! It took two days to complete the job, and the crew was fantastic from set up to break down. There was always a foreperson on site (Gabriel) who communicated with me throughout the project. The folks that climbed the trees took care of the obvious broken branches and identified another that had split and could have created another major issue for us down the line. Peter and Gabriel were responsive, communicative and fair. I will use CTD for maintenance of my trees in the future. I recommend them with my highest regard read more

They showed up just past 11am, they completely removed two trees, one of which was leaning on my neighbor's property and electrical lines, they also trimmed 5 other trees and they were done by 4pm. It was 7 years since we'd had any work done on our trees and they were badly in need of care. I called California Tree Design among others for a quote. Chris came out the next day and suggested work that needed doing and gave a fair price. Other companies were cheaper but I felt confident that California Tree Design knew what they were doing and I would not end up with over pruned or thinned trees which had happened in the past. There were 14 trees which included Egyptian palms, pine, ash, liquidambar and eucalyptus trees as well as dead and dying oleander bushes to be dealt with. The team was efficient in getting the work done in less than 2 days and cleaning up afterwards. We are very happy with the result.
