It was by coincidence that my neighbor ran into her and got a quote to trim back an oak tree. AMAZING... I'm so glad she was there....so I felt it was meant for them to trim the tree. This tree was so messy and large and dropped so many acorns that the street was embedded in dark spots and dead leaves that you wouldn't even know there was a street.. I never actually met her but talked with her on the phone and I knew she would do an excellent job. The price was reasonable and the timing was perfect. I am way overdue in writing this review. Bottoms Up Gardens, and owner Gwyny Pett, are incredibly responsive and reliable. Appointments are kept, estimates are written and thorough, and the work performed is fantastic. I've used them across several properties for a variety of tree trimming, from the largest deodars down to our citrus trees and hedges. Her crew are artists at what they do. Really the best tree work that I have ever come across. And they are all incredibly cordial. I haven't used any of their landscaping or cleanup services yet, but that's probably overdue. We hired Bottoms Up Gardens to clean our garden, which we had not maintained in a decade. It was pretty much a wasteland and all the grass and most the trees had to be removed or significantly pruned. Services have included large scale hillside weed abatement, tree trimming, wind damage repairs, landscape design and installation. Gwynny's crews show up on time and work nonstop till the job is done. They were able to easily incorporate our design changes and meet all city and fire department regulations. I highly recommend this company and plan on using them again in the future. They are excellent at problem solving and complex garden designs. read more

We used this company several times in the past, but will definitely not be using them again. Most recently we paid $8,900 for two and a half days of work. But after the crew left and after we had already paid we discovered that one of the items in the bid had not been completed. We were charged $365 to remove a stump which was not removed. We went back and forth via email with Gwyny asking her to either come back and remove the stump or to simply refund us the $365 for that line item. While she agreed that this item was indeed in the bid and that it was indeed not done, she refused to do anything about it, and tied herself in knots explaining that we had already received various other discounts, that they had already completed a certain number of man-hours, etc. We have no idea how she does her man-hour calculations, and there was nothing about man-hours in the bid anyways. We did receive other, unrelated discounts (though we feel the $8,900 we paid was still quite expensive for the work done) but these had nothing to do with the stump removal or lack thereof. Above all, we remain baffled how a specific line item in the written bid that she created and provided to us - remove stump, $365 - was simply ignored and that she expects we should somehow be ok with this? We're not making up things after the fact, or asking for extra work beyond the scope of the bid. We are simply pointing to her written bid and saying: if there is a specific line item that says - "remove roots and stump - $365" - isn't it reasonable for us to expect that work to be done? Or, if for some reason you no longer want to do that part of the job, fine, but then maybe you should return the $365 that you charged us for it (which is all of 4% of the $8,900 that we paid)? Instead Gwyny admits no fault whatsoever, and is now accusing us of "extortion". At this point we know that we will likely never see Gwyny nor our $365 again, and that we will have to go through the hassle and expense of hiring a second company to come out and remove the stump (ugh). We've been left with a very bad feeling towards Gwyny and her company and feel compelled to share our story. read more

Her price was in line with other estimates and she gave me a discount to have the work done as soon as my neighbor's was finished. They worked expertly and quickly. I suggest they invite the client for a completion walkthrough before leaving the premises. Gwyny and her crew are a breath of fresh air! I cannot say enough about the wonderful miracle they performed on our yard. They care about the plants and truly know what they are doing around plants as well as how to work with clients. This past fall Bottoms Up removed a 50 foot eucalyptus tree that was right next to my house. I have had large branches fall off of this tree onto one of my cars. Gwyny and her crew cut and removed the entire tree without destroying the azaleas planted next to the tree. Most importantly, her crew ground up the very large stump at the root of the tree. Gwynn, a very nice lady, came to assess my fig tree, which has been having issues. She mentioned that she had a treatment that she offered that might help. When she came she basically said there's not much that can be done for the tree, including her treatment. I appreciated her honesty, and that she didn't try to sell me anything. After meeting Gwyny last year, I decided to have her landscape the front of my home. We decided on a drought tolerant, succulent garden. Using the plants and rocks we selected, she and her crew designed a beautiful layout, complete with a drip watering system hidden under the crushed rock. Three years ago, Gwyny and her Team changed our traditional yard into a Southern California drought tolerant landscape. Gwyny is versatile and creative in landscape design and selection of plants. She and her Team were consistent from start to finish as they worked hard to prepare for installation of artificial turf, installed new irrigation, and planted drought tolerant plants. They have kept our project going with periodic maintenance visits tailored to the needs of our large and small bushes. If hand trimming is needed, they provide it. For our larger trees and bushes, they prune or remove as needed. Leo is a genius tree trimmer. When he trimmed our oak tree; it was beautifully done. We've had other tree trimmers who were good, but he is outstanding. Gwyny has been excellent in providing the landscape that we asked for. She is knowledgeable, communicates well, and follows through with projects. She and the Team are punctual, work hard at what needs to be done, and clean up thoroughly afterwards.
