The upholstery team did a great job. They deserve every star on this review. The sales person/owner talks your ear off and goes into obscene detail without taking the clue that the customer doesn't really need to know. There is one sales person that was awesome a young woman who's getting her degree in interior design. She was very helpful, but the long-term sales person that's there. I don't even know her name awful. Without personality without concern only interested in money awful awful awful. I have a lot of custom furniture that needs upholstery and I would love to have used this place. They didn't know it, but this was a dry run. Unfortunately they failed. Will not come back. read more

Dont shop here, where to begin ? 1) bad workmanship , proof in image attached of the type of work they do below on the envelope surrounding the sofa cushion I bought from them. . Image taken same day as delivery. 2) There were other measurement issues as well for my sofa cushion replacement besides image below, and when I asked to have it picked up and fixed he said no and was beyond rude . Don't believe me , Just have a conversation with Andrew owner and ask him few questions and see for yourself the rudeness and condescending he is. 3) When I took actions to take him to court and publish the rude recorded call on You Tube only then did a 50% refund come my way without saying refund was coming my way . I would never recommend hiring California Upholstery. I hired them to remove the old carpet in our boat and replace it with marine vinyl. Not only did they cut corners, not use marine materials, not remove the old carpet, you can see the condition they delivered the boat to me saying it was ready. Almost nothing was sewn and non marine glue was their method of installation most of the boat. The new material they used was delivered with permanent large stains in several locations as well as overspray glue on every piece and gel coat. They charged me over 8K to deliver the boat. I gave them a chance to talk through everything with the boat in person. When I went through all of the issue I was meet with hostility and the worst customer service. I ended up taking it to two other shops after and hired them to start over. It was very clear they had no idea what they were doing. I will let the photos speak for themselves. read more

My salesman, Joel, was super nice. He convinced me his guy was the best guy around for leather work. So, I drove all the way to Moorpark (about an hour away). I was in little concerned about the shop, as it looked poorly run and not organized, at all. But I met Joel in the back parking lot and gave him my $600 leather hide I ordered and had shipped from England (sectioned into six large pieces). A few days later he said the hide was too thick. I was half expecting that so I told him I'd get him a replacement hide made, and to just hang on to that one until I returned. He said no problem. I called yesterday to let him know I'd found a use for that first hide and that I was coming to get it. He said no problem, "come on out". I made the hour drive over there and after I got there, he asked his worker in the back where my lather was. The guy handed over two of my six pieces and said they threw the rest away. The fact that two of the six pieces were still there leads me to believe they found another use for my leather. If they were to have trashed it by accident, as they claim, there wouldn't still be two pieces left. Joel told me he was going into the front office to look around, and he never came back. About 15 minutes later I went looking for him and he was in an argument with an employee, who was cussing like a drunken sailor. They stopped arguing when I walked up and Joel said he would have them search in their warehouse and to get back with him. I've called and texted today and Joel never returned my message I left with the girl who answered the phone, nor any of the four texts. I think I'll have to sue them in Small Claims court to try and recover my 600 bucks. This is a company that is clearly going under soon. Don't end up like me. You've been warned! read more

I took 4 dining chairs in for reupholstering and a small repair on one of the wood arms. when the chairs were returned, the upholstery was great, but the wood arm break was repaired misaligned. One side of the top was sticking up about 1/8". The opposing side was on the bottom was sticking out about 1/8". I paid the remaining balance and sent the chair back to correct the repair. About 7:30pm I received a very rude call from a male saying the repair was correct and I didn't know what I was talking about. The male wouldn't let me explain what I saw on the repair and hung up on me. I sent him a text saying not to touch the chair, I would be in the next morning to pick it up. I was afraid he was going to destroy the chair. The next morning when I arrived at the shop, the chair was not there. I was told the chair was at an outside shop and to come back at noon. Ultimately, the chair was not returned for three days. Mary Ann who originally helped me would only say she wasn't there when the incident happened and made little attempt to help me get my chair back, or refer me to someone who could help. Buyer beware for any type of repair or customer service. read more

Do they match at all closely to the window frames? Do these shades look total blackout? If you answered "no, no, no" you have eyes! And their offer... 50 percent off my NEXT purchase, r... and why couldn't I get a discount on the current purchase their not-suppose-to-be-selling sales guy sold me? Their profit margin is too slim. Figure that one out... Update: I settled with this company by sending them 80 percent of purchase price which was very generous on my behalf. I went to this place to have 10 dining room chairs reupholstered. Toni was nice and helpful although very slow to get back to me. Toni who must be new at this place didn't know which sample books I could check out. The owner / manager let both of us know but his tone towards his employee was condescending and rude. I had done some research and with the help of my designer, found out that I should be able to get 2 chairs reupholstered from each yard of fabric. The fabric I had selected was $100 / yard. The owner , in his condescending tone let both Toni and I know, that each chair would require a yard each. When I told him that I would buy the fabric but go elsewhere for the upholstery job, he got upset. Toni asked him a question about my order, his reply was "never mind, she is not our customer anymore ". Final straw was that their company policy is to charge the customer 3% extra if you pay with a credit card. I went to a different upholstery service who easily was able to get 2 chairs per yard and I even have fabric left over. read more

I did not even get past the person on the phone. It was an older woman with a bit of a raspy voice. I simply asked what do the charge to reupholster outdoor patio furniture cushions. She was nice enough to give me a range. Then she began her HARD SALES PITCH. Can you come in today, I am only here until 3pm. Then she asked how many cushions, when I told her 30, she got very interested. Then I asked how long would it take? She was very vague, oh about 4 to 5 weeks once we get the fabric. Absolutely stunning upholstery work. California Upholstery reupholstered a Lillian August sofa, which already had excellent bones, in traditional lemon colored toile (polyester, hard to find, but was shipped directly from High Point, NC.) We were attended to by Joel, a very seasoned professional, as well as Andrew, the manager who truly understands the upholstery business. Our craftsman was Lupe, and he is extremely skilled. We made a special trip just to speak to him (wifey speaks fluent Spanish and double checked everything). From start to finish, the project took 30 days and was delivered exactly on time. The elastic hooks and ties, the down wrapped foam pillows, the welting, and the precise matching of the toile - quite difficult, if the technician is not skilled - were all done to perfection. And of course they refinished the exposed wood frame. Joel stayed in touch via text throughout the process. What started out so well, didn't last long. Long story short, after a great initial meeting we've had problems in every step of this process: price con, delay pick-up, and now delayed delivery. It's been over 5 weeks and I still don't have my items back. I was promised the owner would call me today, but nothing. I guess $3,200 to upholstery a sectional couch and two kitchen benches don't get you any service whatsoever. So disappointing! STAY AWAY!!!! This place is a scam. Horrible quality. Subpar work. Terrible customer service. My wife called to complain the covers we bought don't fit. They are washable covers but apparently they can't really be washed. Their brilliant solution is to ask my wife to drive to their store in Thousand Oaks (we live in the Palisades and have two small kids) so they can see the fabric. Laughable. The chair was delivered to California Upholstery in late April for arm repair and reupholster for a time sensitive design project. The Woman I delt with was Corinne, she sent me images of leather, but I only wanted to see in stock to due time requirements, I selected a leather because she stated it was in stock and the chair could be done quickly. Early July I emailed Corinne asking about the nail head color that still needed to be selected and she after a few requests she still had not sent a selection for me to choose from. At that time, she stated that she still had not received the "in stock leather" and I was flying in to do a full interior install and I had no chair because Corinne didn't bother to keep track of the leather order or keep the designer informed there was a delay. I ordered a few high-end leathers myself and they arrived in a week they were delivered by currier to the upholstery shop where they sat for weeks untouched. I called again to check progress and was told they had not started yet. At that point I lost it with Corinne she refused to respond so I spoke with the shop and expressed my deep dissatisfaction with Corinne having our chair for over 4 months and no progress, Corinne emailed the client to complain that I was rude and pushing her and she decided to cancel the job and refund the deposit $1306.30 given on 5/13 and in her text message she said accounting department would issue a refund check. As with many other review complaints we are still waiting on the accounting department. I have been in the interior design business for over 30 years with multiple high-end showrooms and this is the worst upholstery shop I have ever seen and would never recommend them especially working with Corinne the one who kept dropping the ball. read more

I had a cushion replaced on a leather chair and a footstool cushion replaced to match. I gave them my original leather chair cushion stuffed but torn and gave them the original old leather material for the pattern of the footstool. I asked that both pieces of old leather be given back to me when the job was complete. I received my new replaced seat cushion and footstool cushion, both nicely done. No old leather was given back. After countless calls to Joel, seemingly responsive to me, no old leather. He sounds so nice but refuses to send back my old leather, he makes up numerous excuses why I have not received them and every time I believe him. Well it has been since August 22nd and eleven phone calls from me. So the job may be done but don't expect your old pieces back. read more

I bought a pretty nice coffee table and small dresser from an up-scale thrift shop but they both needed some work done...I sent a few pictures to California Upholstery and received a quick response with an affordable and reasonable quote. Once accepting the quote, I had them come and pick up the two items for repair. They were overall extremely easy to work with and said I'd have both the dresser and coffee table returned within 3 weeks. Bought an $800+ custom cushion. Problem 1. A rectangle showed up. When I called to complain, I was told it would be fixed. Problem 2. Zero accountability or information why a rectangle showed up. Problem 3. I was told the driver had gone home for the day, but would be by the next day to get the cushion and that I would receive the correct one in 5 business days. The driver never showed up the next day. He showed up two days later. Problem 4. When I reached out to the sales rep today about when the cushion would be delivered, she said it won't be ready until tomorrow and that it would be delivered tomorrow (even though today is 5 business days from when she said that-not my fault they didn't pick it up). Problem 5. This morning, in writing, I was told that the cushion would be delivered tomorrow. When I asked again about an hour ago, I was told there was no guarantee when it would be delivered because they don't have their own drivers. Not my problem. Tell your sale's associates to do their jobs right. Problem 6. I was given the name and number of Andrew, who claimed to be some sort of manager. When I explained my frustration, he told me they did everything right. He explained that they are giving me the cushion I ordered. That is correct because I paid nearly a thousand dollars for it. They legally have to give it to me. However, what they are refusing to acknowledge, which is odd for a business, is that I waited around twice for the wrong cushion so far. I asked for some sort of credit or refund and was told that isn't done for custom cushions. That's pretty bad customer service. My response, albeit not polite due to the insane frustration I have experienced for a week, was this "place is an f***ing joke". Andrew's response was to ask me 4 times, loudly and angry (I get it. You're mad your customer is mad) if I said "this place is a an f***ing joke," to which I replied yes. Then he called me a b*!ch and hung up. If you shop here, you're setting yourself up. Just look at the other reviews. They get two stars and not one because I just got a call it will be delivered today. I'll review the actual cushion if it does arrive. Btw, the sales associate told me it was her fault for not giving the right info to the person that makes it, but she didn't do so until 3 days later. Update: raised to 3 stars because the cushion is wonderfully done. A little customer service would have gone a lonnnnnnmggggg way. read more

I really wanted to give this place high marks, but I just couldn't do it based on my experience. The place does quality work. Lupe and his team of upholsterers, do a fantastic job. My couches look great and brand new. However, the work was not done on time and their customer service is horrible. I specifically had a due date for my job because I was hosting an engagement shower. They delivered half my order while the party was going on. My chair, which looked beautiful, had no cushions. Who does this???? My outdoor patio cushions were not even done and I had to borrow a friend's cushions, even though they didn't fit, so guests would have somewhere to sit. I was given another due date for the rest of my order and it was not fulfilled on that due date either. Needless to say, I was fuming and could not believe a company could do this to their clients. When I wrote to complain, they said they would fire the assistant who helped me. I do not want someone to lose their job..we are all human. But I told them I hope they can take this as a learning experience and maybe train their staff and be honest with customers if they cannot meet the expected deadline. When I asked for compensation, they said they could not do that, but offered me a $100 gift card for next time and free delivery. I am not sure I can do it again. I am extremely disappointed with this company. They seem to have a lot of business, but maybe that's the problem. My six-year old leather sofa was in the need for new cushions (both seat and back). The quality of the foam they used has a high density and the batting for the back cushion provides superb support. I learned a lot about the manufacturing of foam and much like paint and tile, foam also has dye lots. I was assisted by Kevin and Scott, the owner. I have had three chairs re-upholstered here. Scott and his team were so patient while I chose fabrics and we discussed the detailing for the chairs. Two of them required a change in the look. I took Scott's advice over my own judgment and he was right. The third chair needed rehabbing as well and they did a great job. Have two more chairs in there now. Loved that they have some great fabrics at extremely affordable prices as well as expensive fabrics to choose from. We chose the $10 per yard remnant fabric which made the cost go down dramatically and was a fraction of the original cost of the fabric. They came to the house twice to measure my patio furniture for custom cushions, they accepted my payment, and they never delivered. I tried to get my fabric back, they have not answered my emails. I would like to highly recommend doing business with this store and especially the people that work there. The last item I needed to finish my kitchen remodel was a window treatment. By looking at a photo, Shant was able to advise me of the best covering for the window. He is incredibly knowledgeable and high level of experience. I had to cover/repair two recliners. One recliner had what I thought was a broken board on the bottom. They recovered both Chairs but did NOT REPAIR the broken chair. It came back to my house sagging drastically on one side, and if you sat in it in your butt went all the way at the floor almost. It amazes me that they would reupholster around on a broken chair?! I called to resolve. The lady on the phone was less than helpful however the salesman did answer my email. They took the chair back and returned it a few days later. Apparently they replaced a spring. It now makes the most awful groaning, nails-on-a-chalkboard sound when you sit down, and even worse when you extend the recliner. Really loud and horrible. Sales people were very nice. Just the workmanship was really awful. I don't know how you would let this chair out of your shop looking the way it did. As for the upholstery part, it looks good. They redid cushions, but the chair is no longer comfortable. It was an overstuffed, comfy chair, now rock hard, too firm. Generally pretty unhappy with the overall experience. Don't even want to mess with theses guys anymore. read more
