I interviewed several high rated landscape companies on yelp. Looking for yard maintenance and work to be done I choose California Yard Care Corp because of their years of experience and their good yelps including the filtered ones. Looked like it was the best way to go Aaron & Antonio came out the next day to discuss my landscape needs. They both were very knowledgeable, and they had some great ideas that I never considered. Aaron said I would receive a detailed proposal from Jen the office manager, which I did the very next day. They did a great job from start to finish. They were professional, courteous and did what we discussed. Now they are servicing my yard weekly. Looking forward to a life long business relationship. I was so excited to have our yard serviced by California Yard Care based off of their Yelp reviews. Sadly, I was very disappointed. I never received notice when the service dates would change. I'd wait all day and no one would come. Then, I would call and email the office asking what was going on (because no one ever answered the phone). They would apologize and say they would come out the following day. I met with Aaron a few times and the other landscapers a few times, walking through the yard together, making sure they knew exactly what we wanted done. Somehow that never stuck. Once, after they came on a service day, I had to take a picture of a giant bundle of mushrooms in the yard and ask them to pick it. Really? I had to explain to them monthly that I would like the weeds pulled when they serviced the yard. Very surprising that I would need to ask this of them since it is basic yard maintenance. Sometimes they would come and just trim the edges of the lawn, not mow it, and that was considered complete. I gave them chance after chance to clean up their act and they would ALWAYS disappointed. Aaron was correct that I work in a different location, which is in Woodside. I never told him that I lived in San Mateo. I explained to Aaron that the owner, who lives near the property, will meet him at the location and Aaron would get back to me with his availability. He never did. By the way, Aaron did not offer up other licensed company names. I had to ask him. If you refer to my post, he also didn't give me an explanation as to why he couldn't help me. Contractor that showed up to our house had bad attitude and instead of telling us that our yard was too small, he just threw a number that was unreasonable. All of your competitors gave us $200 but $550? I would've been OK if he told us that our lawn was too small for regular service or what they can take, but throwing a number that he knows we wouldn't take is a bad business practice. If this was a real price then obviously it's a rip off. Update: This estimate was this Thursday not last week. We never said that we can get home depot folks to do our yard. I was a customer of California Yard Care for over 10 years. In the last 2 years there was a lot of churn and quality of work went way down. We had to contact the office few times to get the proper service. On 5/20/2016 I was notified that in order to continue with California Yard care in June and beyond, my monthly rate will be going up by 54%. Since I was at the same rate for a number of years, I offered to pay 38% more for the same service level, but my offer was not accepted. I cannot recommend neither quality nor pricing policies of this business. I absolutely cannot say enough great things about this company and Aaron who worked so hard to help us complete our landscaping projects We started using them last year to redo our entire yard. They started out with the initial design, which was exactly what we wanted, without knowing anything about landscaping design/trees/plants/etc. The actual project was started very promptly and the crew was extremely pleasant, professional and were very hard working. The entire project was completed ahead of schedule and the results were and still are amazing. We wanted a low maintenance yard with artificial grass, which looks a lot better than I ever imagined. The yard, although not large, looks like something out of a magazine over a year later. Overall, we were so impressed and completely satisfied with the outcome that we asked for them to do work at my parents house. We actually did this as a house warming gift to them and they were also flabbergasted with the results from just a one day clean up, it was like a whole new yard! They were so pleased with their results, they hired them to do additional projects they had planned, work was scheduled and completed within a week. The latest and absolute best interaction I've had with this company was yesterday when I pulled a bit too hard on our outside hose and cracked the pipe that comes out of the ground. In a panic I shut off the whole house water valve and my husband contacted them. I am not at all overreacting when I say I had two guys here within an hour, not only fixing the pipe, but installing a shut off valve so if it happens again, we don't have to shut off the main home water. They even came with all of the parts necessary to fix the pipe, since we had sent them a picture and they knew exactly what to fix, amazing! The pipe and shut off valve was fixed within 45 minutes and for someone in a panic with a sick baby, this was a heaven sent. I really can't say more than this company meets and beyond exceeds any possible expectation of a landscaping company Would recommend to anyone and everyone!!! read more

I have been using California Yard Care Corp for about 4-6 weeks now for weekly maintenance. The difference in appearance of my yard is night and day. Grass was in pretty bad shape and some areas were overgrown. I met with Antonio who was great to meet with. We walked through the yard and gave me his feedback. Based on his recommendation, I started with de-thatching, aerating and fertilizing my lawns. During that service, grubs were found in the front yard. Antonio immediately gave me a call to let me know and recommended treating both front and back lawns. Today the grass shows remarkable improvement. They are much greener and fuller than before. Antonio has been extremely response to any questions I may have and is really good about keeping me informed about the happenings in my yard. We had them doing our yard since 2013. I fired them in June 2017. It seems like over the last year or so, everything went terribly downhill. 1. We had service on a Friday for at least three years.They changed our service to Monday without consulting us sometime in 2016/early 2017. When we called to change it back to Friday, we were told that they had no spaces on Fridays. We would be put on a waiting list, but they could move us to Wednesday. 2. They repeatedly broke sprinkler heads, which they did replace. But only after I called to tell them they had done this. 3. They broke a brick in my brand new retaining wall. They "fixed" it by gluing the broken piece back on the wall in what I would consider an amateurish way. The glue was shiny and the broken piece was slapped on with excess glue showing around a chipped piece of brick that was obviously glued on. 4. They cut out shrubs in the front yard without consulting me. They then left a giant hole in my front yard landscape that featured branches laying on the ground that were not cleaned up and small branches from the bush they didn't even completely clear out. I had to go purchase more plants to attempt a fix to something that did not need to be done. And frankly, they did a great deal of damage to the appearance of my front yard. 5. They did a terrible job shaping my row of boxwood shrubs. A job I did not request. They left boxwood leaves everywhere, and I am still picking up debris from the poorly done work months later. They also sliced through a sprinkler line that I had to repair. 6. They "shaped" a bush with what must have been a rusty tool. There were jagged cuts and tears in the bush that could lead to disease. I had to go out and hand trim the broken pieces that were still hanging on the bush and cut out the jagged cuts. 7. The final straw was a hatchet job to a thriving grapevine. I'm sorely disappointed as the vine did not need to be touched. Not only did they butcher it, leaving grapes and cut off parts of the vine dying on the fence. They pulled the trellis off the fence that was holding it up and left what was left of the vine hanging askew from a broken trellis. To add insult to injury, they did not even clean up all the chopped up pieces of the vine nor did they bother to actually clean up any of the leaves and debris in the rest of the yard. 8. I could not call them to discuss this, as they're answering machine was set up in a way that did not allow me to leave a message. So, I emailed them and asked them not to return. They did not even respond to my email to apologize for a job poorly done. read more

Not very happy with them. Something changed, especially since 2016. I started to feel like they were cheating on me with their services. I started noticing my green bin not getting filled with yard clippings. Finally, one day I was home & no one showed up & I said maybe next week, & still no one showed up. I was paying my bill & just felt so disappointed with them. Then they wanted to raise their rates & do less maintenance. And finally, the most disappointing is getting transferred to the original owners' son's company. The service just got even worst. They want to do less work for more money. I met with Antonio for a front yard cleanup and a lawn rejuvenation package that included aeration,de thatching,fertilization 3 months ago and was very satisfied with the job they did. From beginning to end California Yard Care and Aaron Gentile have done a perfect job! My front "yard" consisted of dirt/weeds and dead bushes and trees ... I thought it was hopeless until I spoke to Aaron. They mentioned their ideas (that I adopted since their ideas were better than mine) and told me they also do driveways! I am so happy that Aaron had mentioned that - since our driveway was beyond a wreck and we didn't know anyone to turn to. Aaron and California Yard Care are wonderful. We started using them 1 year ago for the maintenance of our yard. They checked our entire irrigation system so meticulously and got our yard growing and in much better shape. We use their weekly service, and the crew is always professional and on time with their logo trucks so you know who you are dealing with. My husband and I were planning to redesign the landscaping of our backyard and had set a date to have Aaron and California Yard Care begin work. Tony schedules an appt for Memorial Day and rushes thru only to tell us he doesn't do landscaping he can send his son over. Obviously he didn't listen to my message. His son Aaron sets up an appt. then cancels. Reschedules for Saturday morning 9:30 to 10:30 6/3/17. No show, left a message at 11:00 to check on where he is. 1:00 pm he calls back. No APOLOGY, just says he can come over sometime in a while. I told him he is not reliable, therefore not the right company for us. Three times a waste of our time. Reached out to California Yard Care after landscaping company that installed our backyard drip system stopped returning calls. Antonio came out for a quote in a day or so, and provided a final quote in a timely manner. He also made a few recommendations for our lawn, but not in a pushy "sales" way, so we used California Yard Care to not only replace the failing drip with spray sprinklers, but also to thatch and aerate the lawn. So far so good! The lawn looks great and our plants look a bit happier with the spray sprinklers. Due to the good service we received, we now use California Yard Care for yard services 2x a month. I'm more confused than upset. I called California Yard Care a few weeks ago to set up a consultation for a yard cleanup. They hooked me up with Aaron who gave me a call shortly. He said he was busy the upcoming week, so we scheduled the consultation for the Friday of the next week. On the Friday a couple days later, I get a call from his number (no voicemail) and a card left at my door in the morning. Maybe a mixup on which Friday he'd come? I called the number back and left a voicemail. I then called his number a few days later to confirm we can still do the consultation on the date I had originally planned for. Left another voicemail, no response. I called the main number for California Yard Care who took my message and said they'd pass the message along to Aaron. In the end, I ended up having to contact another company. Even if he ended up not being able to come to the consultation, I would've greatly appreciated a call back letting me know.
