    Vanilla latte and chai latte
    Lori F.

First time trying Calm Waters. The chai latte may have been the best one I ever tasted. My husband enjoyed a vanilla latte and was SO impressed that the little design stayed intact all the way to the bottom of the cup lol. We were able to read. Not too noisy even though almost every table was taken. Would come back.

I have been to this coffee shop a few times and every time the staff is so friendly and helpful. They only have 3 flavors of syrups that are house made, with 1 that is on rotation. This most recent time I went, I got the elderberry every green latte, not really knowing what it was going to be like. The guy helping me saw I was a bit hesitant and automatically told me to let him know if it wasn't something I liked and he would make me a different one. That was definitely not necessary though, the latte was delicious! It's such a cute cafe with great music choices and calming space!

I've been to their original location and loved it, as well as the coffee shop that calm waters replaced. So I knew I wanted to check out this new spot. We ordered a regular cold brew, their chocolate cold brew and a bag of beans. Their cold brew was fine. They forgot they were making a chocolate cold brew and went to pour out some of the coffee, and I interrupted and said that was okay, because we didn't like our drinks that sweet but they proceed to put half of it down the drain anyway because it's a 'set recipe.' And yes, it was too sweet. It was a very odd interaction, I don't usually see specialty coffee shops that don't allow you to make their drinks less sweet. The beans were a bit sour. I was just a bit disappointed, as calm waters had been a favorite.

The attractive sister of the Calm Waters on Mill Street, Bristol, their coffee is excellent, and the limited noshes, decent. It looks much like it did as The Coffee Room, with basic utilitarian furniture and Spartan wall art work throughout this very deep row house first floor. The chai latte with oat milk satisfied and refreshed. The toasted sesame bagel enough to meet my breakfast needs. Service counter was staffed well, with the barista efficient and artistic. The deep blue large cup and saucer, beautiful. The room was quiet enough to allow a prolonged conversation, but with sufficient ambient sound to permit privacy. Great to have a locally owned alternative to Starbucks on State Street.

Both drinks were great but not hot enough. Hot chocolate was like warm and latte so just good enough to drink. Besides that the two workers that were there (11/05/23) were wonderful and very friendly. Love the vibe of the coffee shop.

"Hazelnut boi" (rotating option) and protein plant based cookie - LOVE this option!

Calm Waters recently purchased Coffee Room and took over their location. They seem to have done a great job! I've been to Calm Waters in Bristol a couple times and always loved their gluten free and tea options, which it seems they've taken to Newtown. Calm Waters has kept Coffee Room's bright lights and seating options, which I've always loved. They kept a lot of the bones really, and just did a little bit of painting. The Newtown location remains better lit than the Bristol one which I *love*. The coffee here is high quality and you can tell the people here really care a lot about their craft. Calm Waters also offers a rotating syrup every week so it's cool to try new things each time. I ordered a "hazelnut boi" this morning as hazelnut was on rotation this week. I asked for it to be less sweet and it was really good. There are not a ton of syrup options (vanilla, mocha, and then the rotating one) but what they do, they do phenomenally (and who needs that sugar anyway!). They also make all of their own syrup options in-house which again leads to higher quality. It would be nice if they offered almond milk (they currently only offer oat and whole milk). They may offer less options so they can be excellent at what they do offer, which makes sense and they do that well. Staff in both locations have always been very kind. I like the background music too. I'm really glad they're here, the people have such a good vibe about them.

July 2024 drink of the month: dark chocolate coconut cold brew

I LOVE Calm Waters. Whether I'm stopping in to grab coffee before work or staying for a few hours to study, this has been my go-to coffee shop since moving to Newtown several years ago. The baristas are incredibly friendly and go out of their way to be inviting to new and regular customers. The espresso is some of the best I've ever had. Their rotating drinks of the month are always a hit and are something I look forward to each month. I seriously cannot say enough great things about this place!

Excellent lattes, a bit pricey, with pleasant and efficient service. Great location in historic Newtown.

The wifi here is very poor - there are ample cafe tables ideal for working, but the connection is so weak you can't even send an email.

We order a starter and the Mahi Mahi. We were brought room temp water. There is no liquor license so we order soft drinks. They arrived in the can. We had to open them and pour them - again, no ice. We are told there is no Mahi Mahi but the waitress didn't know the name of the other fish on the menu? "The Branzino?" "YEAH!" The pumpkin soup was okay. French onion was quite good. The Branzino? Below average. Menu pic has the whole fish but we were served two small fillets. The asparagus was plain. That was it. The main course was placed as we were still eating the soups. We looked up and our server said...."Oh! You're not done? Well, I can clear your bowls or just leave these here!" With amazement, we asked for them to be left and we got to them after we were done with the soups. Had to ask for refills on water twice. Sorry to say that we aren't going back and we doubt this place will last. We had high hopes. $100 total for dinner which wasn't bad but very much not worth it. Hated writing this review but I read them for restaurants and appreciate honest reviews. This is one. Not recommending this place.

The ambiance feels a bit more upscale than a traditional breakfast restaurant, but that's probably because they also service dinner. The service was a bit slow, but it was packed, so it wasn't the fault of the waitress. We will definitely come back for breakfast again!

This is there second shop in the area (Princeton is the other), and a third is near opening in Ocean City. The ambiance is blond wood, lots of windows and growing succulents on every table and shelf. It is bright and cheery, inviting a long hangout for work or conversation. Power plugs are plentiful. I walked in intending to grab and go, but was quickly seduced by the attractiveness of the room and friendliness of the two women who interacted with me. I ordered a Blue Royale Smoothie, and as the only customer in the house, took a table in the corner overlooking the entire operation and the sunny world outside. It was primarily a blueberry concoction, with several other healthy ingredients mixed in, and presented after blending as a deep purple slurry. It was cool and delicious and encouraged a slow pull on the straw to stretch out the enjoyment. I took a final suck 30 minutes later; that's how good it was. I will return in the morning for their steel cut oatmeal and perhaps the avocado toast. Just wish they brewed organic coffee for those of us with caffeine needs. Too, Pure Green would be an unchallenged social benefit if they found a way to reduce plastics in their products. At $10+ for a smoothie or bowl, that should not be so difficult to work into their environmental footprint. Otherwise, Pure Green has a lot of nutripromise.
