I have visited alot of nursing homes in Durham and this one by far is the strangest one I have come…read moreacross. The administrator who I met seems to "RULE" over the place giving you the impression she is a piece of work to have to deal with. I can not say anything about the care as I did not have a chance to speak or see any residents. If your looking to volunteer here good luck as you probably will never hear from them which is impart to due to the administrator (was told that by the last AD).

I read the previous post while searching for the address of Eno Pointe and I have to speak up for…read morethem from experience. I am legal guardian to a man who turns 90 years old this year and suffers from dementia. Because of his dementia there are limited places he can stay. He and his wife were first in ROSE MANOR which had a problem keeping the place clean and the staff there steal from VISITORS. When his wife was alive they put a woman in her room who had a contagious disease which she caught and later died of something else but I am sure the other thing she got from there complicated things quite a bit.. I have seen people sitting in the hall reeking of number two and unattended until I went to go get someone. I did like the nurse Grace though. She was wonderful and the director there seemed caring but he did not run a tight enough ship to keep his patients in good health! I would not recommend them. Next they went to the super expensive CAROLINA HOUSE. Well first of all they are expensive as hell and they will charge you for everything including a tissue to blow your nose. I do have to say it is beautiful in there, like a high class hotel and my friends had a childhood friend in there but they both hated that place and frequently complained about everything. Once a person fell in his room and hit his head and called for help to which no one responded to the bell. I heard him yelling for help and was not sure which room he was in but I assumed someone would be there. Hearing people in their room with the door shut yelling for help was not uncommon. 45 min later I was walking down the hall and heard him still yelling for help so I went door to door to find him and he was in the room all bloody, with the help bell lit. He had fallen and hit his head and had a really nasty gash. I went and found someone and she claimed he must have just fell because she had just checked on him. LIE!! They also gave my friend a sandwich and when I opened it to give it to her there was a bite already taken out of it! I had to call social services on them twice for abuse of the man who never hurt a fly in his life. The lady passed away in her bed and they claimed they had just checked on her when I found her (sound familiar?) but she was already cold so I know they lied. I transferred him to Eno Pointe and I have to say this is the first time I have peace of mind. The director is Miss Doris and she is good. She is highly involved with the staff, I have seen her there all times of the day and evening so I know this is not just a 9-5 for her. Yes she does rule the place but she is very nice, personable and if you have a concern and speak to her about it she will handle it. She is on top of everything and that is a GOOD thing. There is not a lot of mess going on up there and if you do talk to the residents their only complaints are about their neglectful families who never visit. My friend is VERY happy where he is at now and its been a year, and I would highly recommend them. As for the nurses I prefer to deal with Dianne. Having said all that I must add it is not the prettiest or fanciest place but the time and attention goes into the patients and in my book that is a very fair trade off! If I had to start over I would have never wasted money on the other places. Just remember when you visit these places, they will do all they can to sway you that their place is the best but listening to people who have family/friends up there is important. Listen and look. Good luck in your search. Its a confusing process and often times you might have to do like I did and transfer before you find a place that fits.

From the start, the staff made her feel welcome. They learned her name right away, and even remembered little things like how she prefers her tea. It's those small touches that made a big difference for us. The place itself is clean, feels peaceful, and has these really nice outdoor spaces. My mom loves sitting in the courtyard or watching the birds and fish--they actually have a bird enclosure she visits almost every day. Are there areas that could improve? Slightly, sometimes it takes a bit longer to get help when it's busy, and we've had to remind them about housekeeping once --but nothing that's ever made us regret the decision. Everyone is trying, and you can feel that. And Mom feels love and respected and a wonderful little social group of ladies

They do not care enough to ever return my calls and when I do finally get through to get information about my dad I hear a different story from every person I talk to. The Health & Wellness Director, Charisse, is especially bad about NEVER CALLING BACK but when I run into her at the facility she acts like we're best friends. We had an outside nurse stay overnight with dad awhile ago when his memory was especially bad and she told us he tried to use his call button multiple times in the night and nobody answered. $8k/month so he can get treated like this? It's ridiculous. Some of the staff are nice, others are horrible, which is pretty typical for these types of places, but the lack of communication is just absurd. We are waitlisted at several other places that are further away but I can't wait to get him out of Brookdale.

When our Mom, who has been living with dementia, fell and broke her pelvis, she was in the hospital for a week before ending up back in her skilled nursing care unit. When we wanted to bring her home and care for her, it seemed impossible to coordinate everything while also staying by her side. The women at Aging Care Matters made everything that seemed impossible, possible. They found the housekeeper to help get Mom's room ready back at home. They found the non-medical ambulance to coordinate her ride home. They found the angels/CNA's to assist with Mom's care back at home. They found the movers to move her things out of her skilled nursing unit. And they held our hands like the dearest of friends as we navigated these hardest of days. They had an answer and a solution for all of our needs and concerns, with pre-qualified companies to collaborate with to help us in our greatest hour of need, so that we were able to stay by Mom's side. We can't say enough wonderful things about Rebecca and Anne with Aging Care Matters!
