There's a nice old world ambiance about it. Perusing the menus we first chose a carafe of wine, a Barbera. Having it before here we find it hearty and bold. For the table we shared a house salad which was fresh and well made. There was plenty for four of us. Tasty bread was brought to the table along with oil/vinegar and herbs on a plate. My main course selection was the Maccheroni e Formaggio, spiral pasta (macaroni) with a rich sauce, lots of cheese and breadcrumbs. I got it with meatballs which I highly recommend. The dish was delicious and very filling. For dessert I chose the cannoli which has been my favorite. Unfortunately, this time it tasted dry and the middle of the shell was hard as a rock. The filling was good. Service was very friendly, not rushed and attentive. They always add to an enjoyable meal. I continue to highly recommend this place for a good Italian meal.

The ravioli didn't taste very fresh and was actually hard to eat, which was surprising. That's usually my go-to at Italian restaurants. The margherita pizza was just okay... nothing special at all. It felt pretty basic and didn't really stand out. The restaurant was good and nice. But overall, it just wasn't the best Italian experience, and I don't see myself going back.

We started with some drinks and then ordered the Crispy Potatoes and the spicy Caesar salad. Had the Helena pizza. Dessert changes often but you have to check out the options. They have a great outdoor covered patio to sit outside during sunny days and rainy days.

We opted to sit in the outside patio area. They have a few tables inside, but if you have a larger party, you'll probably need to go outside. The patio is covered and has a few big fans overhead. They did some renovation over this past winter; I know bc I tried stopping by and they were closed due to it. When I went this past time, the inside looked pretty much the same ( based on my bad/faulty memory). The patio was different bc one side is completely covered, and I noticed a pulldown screen and projector overhead. The menu seemed a bit different this time. No more meatball appetizer unfortunately. Our server was nice and attentive (this time and last). The food: - Spicy Caesar (Romaine, home-made spicy Caesar dressing, home-made croutons, parmesan shavings, cracked black pepper and salami crisps): good stuff. Not really a healthy salad but a tasty one. The croutons are nice and light (not unpleasantly crunchy). The dressing has a nice little kick to it. I'd recommend. - Helena pizza (House-made Italian sausage, salami, pepperoni, San Marzano tomato sauce, fresh basil, fresh mozzarella, pepperoncini, and Parmesan): the pizza crust here is the best in the greater Sacramento area. Hands down. It's so wonderfully light and chewy. I wish they'd use a bit more sauce on their pizzas as they eat a bit dry. And, I think some extra sauce would balance the saltiness of the toppings as well (and, the pizza does eat a bit too salty for my tastes). - Classic Pepperoni pizza (Pepperoni, San Marzano tomato sauce, shredded mozzarella, parmesan cheese): similar experience as the Helena: stellar crust, not enough sauce, and a bit too salty. - Beer: they have a half dozen or so local brews on tap as well as a larger selection of cans/bottles, which include both local and macro brews. Thumbs up. Overall, this is a good pizza place that's worth checking out. I'm only knocking a star off bc the balance of sauce and toppings on the pizza was a bit off. But, I'd still go back!
