For many years in Camarillo, we went to Dr Thomas who was very old school, but brilliant. He was conservative in his care and had heard people describe him as an old school vet. After Dr Thomas retired, we went to Ohana for a few years in Ventura, but DeChong and Cam Vet Hospital is the best hands down by far. We absolutely love and cherish not only Dr. Chong but all the staff! They are always so helpful and friendly and just excited to see Layla and she is to see them! They all say they wish all the other dogs were as excited to be there like Layla but they all helped us with Layla skin irritation and eye issues. Dr. Chong is the best, I say that because my dog is very reactive. It's so bad I have to double muzzle and bring another person with me to help him. My dog is a Belgian Malinois (think police/military dog). She works with me so my dog gets an exam every year. Somethings I have to do at home because he won't let the Dr. near him. But man if it wasn't for Dr. Chong I don't know where I would be right now. Today's visit was just like the rest, I am bear hugging him with my legs wrapped around his body and he threw me back, hitting my head on the ground and cutting my lip open. While Dr Chong is very kind, her staff really needs an attitude check. The first time I brought one of our dogs in - they pulled an already existing dog's chart - not mine. Multiple times we had been forgotten when we waited in the car with our more reactive dog. When our dog had surgery, they handed her to us with no care, and they also gave us the wrong medicine for the WRONG species. I get things happen, but they've never apologized for any mistakes. When your dog is like family, you want them treated with care and kindness, which I never felt from staff. I'm glad others have had good experiences, I just wish that care was universal read more

I would rate the Camarillo Veterinary Hospital zero stars if yelp would allow. Please consider one of the dozens of other vets in Ventura County before bringing your beloved pet here. We had a standard spayed procedure here on our healthy Golden Retriever and have nothing but problems since. A couple days post surgery I noticed a strange bump on the incisions and brought my dog in for a follow up. The vet informed me that it looked ok and that there maybe a minor inflection and prescribed antibiotics. Fast forward less than a week, my dog was in need of emergency surgery to remove a total blockage in her intestines due to inattention by the vet when placing the incisions. This surgery cost north of $5,000. A few years later my dog once again had a blockage in her intestines due to the fact that she now has a narrower section that without the previous incident would have naturally passed. This latest incident required a second emergency surgery that cost us an additional $10,000. I have been extremely patient with them and waited several years before posting this review. After the most recent incident I decided that people need to be informed to make the best decision for your beloved pets. Once again please reconsider, there are many other options for veterinary services in our area. read more

I visited this place twice. The first visit was okay, the vet assistant was a little aggressive handling my furry cat. For instance when she handled my cat for vaccination, her other arm was being dragged. Another visit, I came in, the front desk was extremely unprofessional. She didn't say anything "Hi" or "do you have an Appt." She kept engaging in a conversation with the other lady like I was not present there when she clearly saw me open the door. I finally said "I have an appointment." And she took my info and she was not very thorough with it, she would ask more question when I thought I was done with her. Advice to owner: please train your front desk with basic customer service because clearly they don't care. Your Front desk adds value/impression to your business. Wrong impression can lead to unsatisfied customers. I would never take my cat here again, and warned others not to. read more

First of all this review is strictly about the receptionist and has nothing to do with the doctors. Two years ago when I got a new puppy I chose this animal clinic based on all the good reviews. When I called to schedule an appointment the receptionist was not very personable and somewhat rude. She made me feel uncomfortable about bringing my pet there so I canceled and took him elsewhere. Fast forward two years... I have a new puppy and hoping the previous receptionist was just having a bad day, I decided I give it another try. I called to schedule an appointment and the receptionist who answered was just as bad, if not worse. When she answered she just said "Camarillo Animal Hospital". No name, no greeting, no how can I help you. When I asked to schedule an appt. She kept saying "hold on" (twice) and putting me on hold without asking me if I mind being put on hold for a moment. After I finally got an appt. I said "thank you for your help. Her response was "mm hm" and then she hung up. The unprofessional attitude left a bad taste in my mouth. You would think the front staff would be trained with some kindness. They are the frontline of the business and can make it or break it. I can't say anything about the doctors because I never made it past this point. Needless to say, I will not be trying a third time. Normally I would never take the time to give a bad review but this is the second time and I think people should know before they use this office. They are too busy and dont care. Simple as that. We transferred all our dogs visits here after our previous vet sold his business. At first it was fine. We would get shots, pay our fee and go. However, twice now I have needed a Vet for emergencies. Once when she was sick and once when she had bad cuts on her tail. I told her my dog has "Open Wounds". didnt matter. She proceeded to say the best they could see her in 3 weeks. Really? thats the best you can do? The first time it was 10 days out. When I said ill just find a new dr. the girl said "ok" and hung up. My Labradors have been patients of Dr. Chong for many years. I like that she shares pros and cons of all the options. Many veterinarian hospitals are like car dealerships. They try to sell you services and procedures that are not necessary. Dr. Chong does not guilt me into having work done on my dogs. She shares information and let's me decide if it makes sense to operate on my senior labs. At 13.5 years old it doesnt make sense to do procedures and take on unnecesary risks. She looks out for the best interest of the animal and the owner. I'm so thankful to know my dogs are with the right veterinarian. My partner and I recently moved from LA to Oxnard and have been looking for a new vet, we had high hopes going in for our appointment this afternoon and left with a bad taste in our mouths. We have been to 2 different vets since COVID hit, and at both offices we were asked to wait in the car, and a vet tech came and took our cat in for the appointment. At Camarillo Veterinary Hospital this was not the case. There is a sign on the door however that asks clients to wait in their car if 1 person is in the waiting room. While we waited for our appointment 4 different people came in the waiting room while we were there, the office did not ask anyone to leave. This made us uncomfortable given 3 of the people in the office were over 65. We ended up waiting for over 20 minutes for our cat to be seen, while the people who came in after us were taken care of. And by taken care of, I mean a tech came into to waiting room and administered shots to a dog. The real kicker and reason I am writing is that a door in the waiting room LEADS TO A ROOM WHERE A DOG HAD BEEN EUTHENIZED AND WAS STILL LYING ON THE FLOOR. So not only were we ignored in a waiting room we felt was unsafe, we also saw a dead dog. My partner really liked Dr. Chong and I wish I could say that we will return, but we will not. read more

When my dad wasn't able to practice anymore, he sent me to Dr Chong. She reminds me of him in the sense that she is like the old country Veterinarian. She is in NO HURRY!! The thing about her that I love is it is ALL about the animal. The money is a secondary concern. As the pet owner, you will be expected to take part in recovery. She will be there for support between appointments if necessary. Do your pet a favor and take them there. She has that Doolittle quality, both my pets are putty in her hands. Dr. Chong is fabulous !!! On my first visit she got down to my dogs level (12 year old white Lab) cuddled and praised her. Dr. Chong then began assessing several lumps around the white fur and assured me they were most likely benign, but thought it necessary to double check. She pierced all the lumps with a tiny needle to get a biopsy. There appeared to be no discomfort to my lab. She left the examining room for about 5 minutes and returned. All were benign. I was not charged for this examination. She then spent about 20 more minutes providing me with information about my dogs health and incontinence issues. When I was given the invoice, I was more than satisfied with the amount. I have been back to Dr. Chong several times and have been equally satisfied. It is obvious that she truly cares about the animals and will go to any length to make sure they are comfortable and happy. Time is not an issue to her or she will spend plenty of time answering all of your questions..
