My husband and I unequivocally recommend Renee (Urban Cats & Dogs). Like others have mentioned, Renee first came to the house to meet Buster and make sure there was a good fit - for him and for the other dogs. Buster was an extremely nervous 2-year old rescue who needed lots of patience and reassurance. Renee sat down on the floor and waited for Buster to approach her. It didn't take long before he was comfortable enough to not just approach her, but he even started licking her tattoo as if he wanted to make sure she was OK. From that point forward, Buster was hooked. We're pretty sure Buster was convinced that HE was her favorite. From our perspective, Renee always made us feel like Buster was her favorite. In all seriousness, Renee is great with all the dogs in her care. She keeps a close eye on them, and if she noticed any changes in behavior or anything else, she immediately called to discuss. And she was available for all our our calls and questions. Buster has a very sensitive tummy. She helped us work to find a diet that works for him. When Buster tore his dew claw on a couple of occasions, Renee took it upon herself to keep his nails trimmed, then taught us to do it ourselves. The photos and videos Renee sends to her pet parents confirm how amazing she is with all the dogs. They adore her and they have a great time socializing with each other. Last, but not least, Renee's commitment to her own on-going training and knowledge is further reason to recommend her. We needed to find a place for our 100 lb overly friendly yellow lab so we could visit Hearst Castle. But when we leave our dog with other people or at a kennel, he gets nervous and very anxious, so we were a little worried. Renee to the rescue! Renee was a unexpected gift to us, as we traveled cross country with our young Aussiedoodle pup and had a chance meeting with her at a dog park. We met Renee at the Cambria dog park where we'd brought our adorable, but over-reactive, Aussiedoodle puppy for socializing. We were getting desperate because our pup hadn't been socialized appropriately because of COVID. He was extremely over reactive with other dogs and we had begun to dread every encounter. Renee immediately recognized the difficulty were were having and offered to help us by introducing one of her dogs to ours in a manner that resulted in a quiet, successful encounter without the usual flurry of leash tugging, yelping & growling. She is truly gifted. We were so impressed that we asked for her contact information with the hopes of setting up a formal training session with her while we were still in the area. She was extremely accommodating in helping us schedule some time with her. Her techniques are positive, reinforcing and most importantly, they work! She explained the principles clearly, demonstrated what we should do to make future encounters more successful and most importantly, she gave us hope and confidence that we could actually change our dog's behavior (and ours). A few days later, we implemented what we'd learned when visiting friends and it worked perfectly. If we lived nearby, or could have stayed longer, we would definitely have engaged Renee to do more training with us. We adopted a 9 week old puppy (corgi/border collie mix) right on the cusp of social isolating to control the spread of Covid 19. While I've had several dogs in my life, it had been many, many years since raising a puppy and we were pretty overwhelmed at first and at a loss since puppy classes are currently out of the question. We have a large yard and have been fortunate to be able to meet with Renee while adhering to social distancing protocols. Renee is amazing. I hired Renee in 2015 to walk my beloved Zeus, a rambunctious english springer spaniel mix. Her first step was to come to the house and meet him because she wanted to make sure he was a good fit for the pack he would be joining. One thing to note, if Renee agrees to take on your dog you know it will be her walking him because she doesn't sub-contract to other walkers. While it wasn't unusual for Zeus to fall in love with any human being who came his way--but he did fall extra hard for Renee--I did appreciate how deeply Renee cared for him. It quickly became clear that for her this is not simply a job focused on getting your dog out for his daily exercise. It's about observing him, and checking his behavior and health. She really applies her veterinary technician experience to her job. When Zeus started to have health problems but could still go on walks I appreciated that she wanted to know the latest updates about his health care and was even more watchful of him. For example, she would text me if she felt Zeus was a little bit off, his gait was weird, or he had a bad bowel movement. This gave me valuable information to discuss with his veterinarian. I put Zeus down in May 2017 and by then I had inherited another dog from a family member. Jessie, a border collie mix, had gone through a lot in the months before she moved in with me. As a result she was very reserved and even a little terrified. Once Renee stated walking Jessie I felt like I had someone on my team to help her through this transition and make her a happy dog. In the beginning Jessie was rather growly with her pack mates. I'll never forget when Renee sent me this hysterical photo of a totally grumpy Jessie sitting in a corner of the camper while all the other happy dogs were gathered at the door. In those early days I would often get a brief text that Jess did good or was less growly. That made me happy. When Jessie was too possessive of the ball Renee gave me tips on how to deal with it at my end. Now Jessie is a happy girl. And, just like Zeus, she has fallen hard for Renee.
