I live right around the corner from this spot and I can't count how many times I've been here for drinks or gotten takeout in the last year lol. Very solid food and drink options at reasonable prices, and pleasant service. They're also VERY fast with takeout orders! Recs: - Cobb salad: great portions of tomatoes, bacon, blue cheese, avocado, and egg - and the chicken is always breaded and cooked without drying it out! Get it with the honey mustard or blue cheese dressing. I'd pass on the vinaigrette - fish and chips: somehow this restaurant has the best fish and chips I've had in the Boston area. Great portions of well-battered, flaky, tasty white fish. - grain bowls are an option for those wanting a healthier and filling meal instead of bar food. - cocktails are generally solid. The beer punch is amazing to share when it's nice out and you can be outside. Wish they had the back area open again for the summers. Hopefully they'll bring it back next year! Overall: Hit the spot when it came to the pub food craving! The good: Walked right in and got a table, then was immediately met with attentive service. The menu is quite varied and there's plenty to choose from, including drinks. The buffalo chicken sandwich (with ranch) and BBQ bacon burger that we got were both cooked just to our liking, and the curly fries were are a rare and beautiful sight. The portion sizes are on the bigger side, which came in handy. The not-so-good: Not much, just not a perfect-10 type of experience. But there's nothing wrong with that. Great place to have lunch! It is right on Massachusetts Avenue and a convenient location between Porter/Harvard. The patio space is great! We came here for brunch because my friend recommended this place and yelp has good review for it. But I was a little bit disappointed. The backyard patio is spacious, but no decorations, just hard chairs and simple tables. They did have a cover built up, so plenty of shades to sit in. The food was super mediocre: I ordered steak with eggs: the steak piece is tiny and cooked to an ok texture. The two eggs were over cooked with too much salt. But i did like the tater tots, which are tiny pieces of harsh browns. We ordered sweet potato waffle fries to share. They are crispy. But no special sauce to dip into, so we went with the bottled ketchup on the table. My friend ordered omelet with bacon and avocado in it. But they can't replace the bacon with ham as my friend requested. It just looked ok. If you just want a place to hangout with friends and grab drinks, this is probably the place to go. But if you want to try out good food, you can probably skip this place. read more

There's always space, the pours are generous, and the food is about as basic all-American as you can get with their large portions of semi-greasy bar staples. Pros: lots of space, great prices (especially for the area!), friendly staff who will put up with large groups of obnoxious students (at both the bar and seated area. They're kind of amazing, especially with splitting checks, and I especially appreciate that they bring big glasses of water for everyone), and a good amount of outdoor seating for the few months where Cambridge is nice enough for that Cons: there's definitely better options if you're looking for good food, and they're lacking on the healthy food front But by being average and mediocre, it's become that friendly neighborhood spot where you know you'll be served and you won't overspend. Since Christopher's closed and the building sold, this is the new location for a pint and some sports, yet at the same time you can eat at a table and avoid talking to others if you want. Sadly, the food has gone downhill; I ordered a can't-miss meal of grilled cheese and tomato soup recently. The soup was cold and thin, like watered down Campbell's. The sandwich was very, very pedestrian and mediocre, bread was stale. On top of that, they give you a side of fries - for soup and sandwich (huh?). The fries were lousy, cold within about 30 seconds. I informed the bartender of this, to their credit they did not charge me. Pints and conversation are fine at this bar, staff is usually kind, and they are helpful with suggestions. AMAZING. Hands down one of my favorite restaurants in Cambridge. What's not to love about this place? You've got sweet friendly servers, a chill non boujee atmosphere while constantly delivering drool worthy food. The veggie burger here is to DIE for. The soups are excellent. The curly fries have changed my life. That ghost sauce with the pretzel bites is so crave worthy. The whole menu is just well done. Every time I've been here I've never had a bad meal no matter how busy they are. Oh yeah and the beer selection is pretty awesome. You always seem to see a beer from the middle of no where which is never seen to be served in the Boston bar scene. Working in the industry I can really appreciate this place for bringing some variety. Sometimes I don't want a Sam Lagar. Went for dinner with my daughter, who lives just a just a 4 minute walk away. It's down the street from Harvard Square, so if you're in the area, this is a great place to check out. Great selection of drinks, with a ton of beer they rotate through on tap. Had the "burger of the day," which was a grilled cod burger with mango salsa and curly fries. Very, very good. My daughter had chicken nachos that were enough to feed at least 3 people. The service was great and the atmosphere was nice. I'm told it's a popular hang out for college kids, since it's close to Harvard, but with school out when I went it wasn't packed. We also ate a bit early, so it's Saturday night may have gotten busier later I recommend this place if you're in Cambridge. read more

Back before the days of Yelp, I came here at least once for burgers and friendly catch-up (not ketchup). I managed to try this spot again more recently. My opinion of CC hasn't changed much: it's a safe pick, like a conventional sedan. However, don't expect a whole lot of outside-the-box offerings. I managed an outside seat on a warm day. The tables are wooden mini-picnic tables, so don't expect optimal comfort. Service was okay, though nothing spectacular. I went for the 1667 Burger and didn't even realize what I was essentially ordering. Hmmmm...pickles, "special sauce" (which tasted suspiciously like thousand island dressing), cheese? Sounds a bit like a Big Mac, but with bacon and sans the onions. The 1667 wasn't too bad, with the burger being acceptable, bacon crispy enough, and the bun held its structural integrity during the meal. The curly fries are a nice spicy touch, and does make the meal standout a tad. I can't describe much of my friend's Uncommon BLT, because said friend polished off her sandwich before I even got to the halfway point of mine. Sure, my manliness has now been questioned. Anyway, it's worth noting that this BLT has baby spinach in it, in lieu of the conventional lettuce. Shouldn't the sandwich be called a BST? read more

Brunched here this morning, as I've tried their lunch/dinner in the past and have always been impressed with the food and service. Unfortunately brunch was a bit of a let down. The omelettes were just egg discs folded over the toppings, the home fries could have used more seasoning and a lot more crispness, and everything was just luke warm. The waitress was very friendly but was not super vigilant about checking in/getting coffee refills/etc. Can't beat the prices though, especially for the area. I'd recommend for a reasonable lunch/dinner (they also have a great drink selection), though I think there are better breakfast places out there. read more

A few blocks from Harvard I came across this on yelp when I was searching for an inexpensive, local spot! The restaurant has two big rooms separated by a bar. Our waitress was kind and went through the menu with us as it was our first time there. I decided on the meatloaf and I am so glad I did. My cousin got the steak tips which she had been raving over since I arrived and overall I was happy with my experience. It was definitely comfort food and the service was good! It wouldn't exactly be my first choice when I come back but it definitely was a great find! read more

Overall not bad,nice relaxed atmosphere and I appreciate that there weren't TVs on every wall. Service was polite, took awhile to place our order but food came quickly. Food was good, I really aporeciated the real maple syrup! I did not appreciate that to substitute a side salad (pule of lettuce with one small tomatoe and 3pieces of cucumber) for French fries on a kids meal was an extra $2. Everyone should encourage kids (and everyone else for that matter) to eat healthy not punish them for it. We would have even accepted apple slices or a cup of applesauce I stead which wouldn't be much added cost for the restaurant. read more

Cambridge Commons is like all American bar/grill place in the Boston area, but way more affordable. There was no wait time for two people on summer Saturday night (6-6:30pm). We were seated outside. Our waiter was a bit awkward haha...but very polite! For the neighborhood, it's extremely affordable; between two people, we shared a burger, chili + cornbread, and a small cup of soup for under $25. All were good! The burger came with really amazing curly fries. I'm usually not into French fries (fight me) because I think they're way too dry, but I really enjoyed these curly fries. For the price, service, and quality of food, this place gets a 5-star from me. read more

Nostalgia. This was the go to place for drinks and food in college. It has a fantastic bar with beers on tap and a typical bar menu with vegetarian options and even Sunday brunch. It's extremely inexpensive for the area and this place even has parking! But you can get here from Harvard T, Porter T, or the Number 1 Bus. Cambridge Commons will be forever deal to me. This is an institution and it's next to the Lizard Lounge for some awesome music. Pros: 1) Large Bar and plenty of indoor seatings 2) Some Outdoor Seating 3) Some parking (it's a tight squeeze for like 20 cars) 4) Only $. 5) You can always get tots or a salad inside of the fries. Everyone gets the fried pickles or the sweet potato fries. 6) Love their specials and fish tacos 7) Brunch Options (Been loving the Breakfast BLT) 8) Fun parties in the parking lot (ie. All u can eat BBQ for like $15, etc. and games/prizes) Cons: 1) There is a wait on Friday/Saturday nights (especially during the school year) 2) Limited outdoor seatings but enough 3) I like the burgers but it's no Bartleys. It's one of the cheapest things on the menu - but everything else is just better. So many places has disappeared or changed over - but Cambridge Commons has been here to stay. read more

On the plus side: It's not easy finding pubs in the Boston area with reasonably priced food. The menu offered a very good selection of apps, sandwiches, entrees, and specials. There was a modest wine list but a huge choice of micro-brews. Many items on the menu are quite reasonable - for example burgers are only $6-9. For us the service was highly efficient- just short of feeling rushed before taking our order but the ongoing follow-up and checking-in continued after the meal was delivered- so A+ for that. On a Friday night the place was hopping- busy and loud which was fun. Here's the rest- Maybe just a coincidence but our table (to the left side of the bar as you enter) was seemingly on the kids side- almost every table had young children- many of them running around. It's very kid-friendly if you have young children. For others looking for a bit more of an adult dining experience- it wasn't to be. When I went to the rest room, I noticed the seating on the other side of the bar had no children. A coincidence? Maybe. But IF you have a seating plan for a kids side and non-kids side let us know in case we have a preference. Given the chaos of the place- the kids didn't really make any difference. Food- Average and uninspiring. My steak tips (at the top of the pricing on the menu) were tough without much flavor. I like chewy tips. These were tough. They came with green beans (an offered swap for broccoli) and fries. I didn't care for the presentation. The green beans were on the plate which was piled very high with fries and the tips were on top of the fries. This made getting to the green beans a chore. The grilled meatloaf was a bit dry and the huge over-sized onion rings (almost the size of a doughnut)- while impressive to look at weren't to my liking. The net- a reasonably priced fun place with good service, great beer selection and average food. A little more attention to the food and it would be great. read more

Our annual Christmas Nachos experience. Peppers, salsa and guacamole all had heat which is rare in New England, service was attentive and kind, temperature on a frigid day was comfortable and music did not compete with conversations. I attended a repast here after a funeral in November 2023, the buffet choices were delicious. I returned to partake of more great food on 2/17/24 and I was greatly disappointed. The menu choices were different than what was offered in November. The boneless buffalo chicken wings and the quesadilla were good. The entrees were not great. The waitress was asked about the fried chicken and what type of chicken pieces were offered, such as breast and legs. She said the pieces were big. What was served was fried chicken cutlet. The waitress should have told us it was a cutlet. The angus burger was okay but the fries were served cold. We asked for hotter fries and the next batch was a tad bit warmer. The cocktails that we ordered had 4 liquors in it and I couldn't taste one. I thought it was because of the abundance of ice in the drink, so I ordered another one with less ice. I received the drink that was half the glass and still could not taste the liquors. The lighting was very low so we asked to be seated at a window. As I walked to the booth I noticed the bar was extremely dusty/dirty. Don't sit there if you have dust allergy. Be careful entering/exiting the parking lot, it is one very narrow alley. I will not be returning to this eating establishment. read more

On my walks to Porter Square, I would always pass by Cambridge Common. I'd always been allured and curious by its glimmering signage, the gold capital letters, dark interior, and the many patrons snacking on brunch food beneath the various patio umbrellas. It wasn't until recently that I had the motivation to try out the menu with some friends on a Sunday morning. My review is based on two experiences with Cambridge Common, one as less positive dine-in brunch and the other as a positive catering order. In my first experience at Cambridge Commons, I ordered the french toast with chopped potatoes and a side salad. What I didn't expect was the french toast to be overly sweet, with several mounds of whipped creme, and potatoes to be big and less flavorful with each bite. I left feeling disappointed because I had wanted to like Cambridge Common. My next experience came not too shortly afterward during a catered meal. Upon sampling the orders, I quickly concluded that the catering order was delicious: we ordered Mac and Cheese Bites, Caprese Wraps, Sliders with Thousand Island sauce, and Tater Tots. My personal favorite were the Mac and Cheese Bites fried outsides with creamy cheesy insides (think Kraft Mac and Cheese). After these two experiences, I believe Cambridge Common functions as a late-night spot for favorite bites and bar food, but as a brunch spot, it doesn't quite live up to some of the other businesses around Harvard and Porter Square. I, for one, will be ordering takeout soon and definitely hope to be reunited with their delicious Mac and Cheese Bites. read more

Uff. If I could give this place 0 I would. I ordered the Cambridge Common burger and I'm going to keep this review brief. Burger was smaller than my palm. Ordered medium and the burger was raw. The bread was stale. The fries must have been sitting there for awhile as they were cold. I sent the order back and they didn't even take the food off the bill. What a scam. I took two bites and sent it back with the waitress and she agreed with me. I was too embarrassed to ask to have it removed from the bill which now I regret. My stomach is paying for the rawness I bit into and gave a chance. Avoid the burgers at all cost. read more

Unfortunately, places like Cambridge Common are becoming more and more uncommon. This place offers delicious and well-portioned meals at great prices. I mean less than $10 for a complete brunch meal--- when was the last time you saw entrees be that reasonably priced!? There are plenty of appetizers that cost more than that. They offer seating both indoors and outdoors. The vibes inside and outside are completely different; In sitting outside you completely forget that the place is also a bar. The fried plantains were absolutely incredible-- although it is hard for plantains not to be. I had the pancake breakfast because it offered me a breakfast with a bit of salty (eggs and sausage) and sweet (pancakes). I also got to try some of my friend's french toast and it was so delicious as well. I can't wait to go back and explore the rest of their menu because they have a lot of intriguing options. read more

Great little Pub. We went here for a quick dinner. We had a Cheese Burger and the Greek salad with grilled chicken. Everything was quite good and very reasonably priced. Nice neighborhood eatery. One of us was Gluten Free and had no problem finding food. But it is a shared drier and the fries are batter- so beware. read more

The Cambridge Common is delicious again. I have had some OK meals there during the pandemic, which is to be expected, and I was just glad they were still open, but tonight's dinner was like the good old days. We ate inside - which I prefer to the back patio, which is nice, but I like it better inside - and they check for your vaccine status, which I appreciate. The nachos were great. Great little bar with an awesome music venue attached to it. Went for beers and burgers today and loved the vibe. Tons of TVs for sport, and a fairly extensive beer list as well as full bar. Got a burger for 7 dollars including fries and such, seemed cheap for the quality. Will be back :) read more
