It is April 2026, and Dr Weiner is gone! I have never met that person. I take my dog to see Doctor Kayla who is wonderful - a wonderful vet and a wonderful person. I'm a helicoptor dog mom who shamelessly obsesses over my chihuahua. I wouldn't bring my dog to just anybody. Dr Kayla really cares. At every appointment, she explains everything to me about my dog's health both now and in the future. She and I have a care plan that we are working on together, and I only want Dr Kayla caring for my furbaby in her final years. But Doctor Kayla is not the only lovely person at this practice - techs Tanisha and Nicole are wonderful. I just started working with Tanisha who is sweet and knowledgeable. I have worked with Nicole alittle longer, and my chihuahua loves her. Everyone at this practice is a pet parent; everyone is compassionate, patient, thorough, down-to-earth, and very trustworthy. Whenever my dog is in her appoinment, I go out for a coffee and/or snack without any worry - because I know my dog is in good hands. Many of the reviews here are from years ago. The new management now in 2026 is truly top-notch. I really mean that. Give this practice a chance now, and you will not be overcharged or disappointed. They are really good and competent folks. I would give them zero stars if I could... I came here for a visit with my cat in order to, first and foremost, establish my cat as a patient in case there were ever any emergencies. When I'd called in I was assured this was a routine visit and that the cat would receive a check up first and foremost. He did not. I had mentioned that my cat had become withdrawn, hiding from us but not to sleep. He's a very clingy cat, always needing attention and constantly reminding us that he's been left without pets. This was a pretty dramatic change. While my cat is a rehome, according to his previous owners he acted very much the same. Apparently from this information alone the vet was sure my cat has resorption. This is true, we got a second opinion, but the vet was a complete ass about the visit. He told me "there's really no science surrounding it, but you can read this article and google it if you'd like" and then promptly turned to go into the backroom again. There was little to no real interaction and I had to literally leap out of the chair to beg him for advice on what to do in the home to help with prevention. The vet ran blood tests and gave the cat a vaccine he was behind on which ultimately came out to almost $700. Our second opinion ran THE SAME tests. The entire vet appointment was $150 and not only was more done, but the second opinion discovered a heart murmur that this vet blatantly disregarded OR DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE. That's sort of a huge red flag, and a serious health problem. On top of all of this, the vet determined the surgery date without consulting times or availability, shrugged off any other questions I had, called my cat by the wrong name and has been impossible to reach. The staff was fine, the gentleman who took my cat back was very kind and the woman behind the desk, while not talkative, wasn't unpleasant in any way, she was simply doing her job and juggling me, calls and other appointments. I, unfortunately, have to echo other concerning comments around this vet. The concern here is not primarily cost, but that our pet received subpar care and we were not listened to. I don't enjoy being overcharged, but I particularly find it off putting when it involves my pet getting unnecessary work and then not catching actual health issues. I have lived in cities my whole life, and have lived in the Cambridge and Boston area for five years. These prices are by no means the norm and nor is this type of care. I am leaving this review because my pet means a lot to me, and I don't want others to have this experience. We (my partner and I) adopted a cat from a shelter several months ago, and despite the negative reviews we ended up booking an appointment (other places were still working through the COVID-19 pet boom). We have been to other vets in the past, in the area, and I am not trying to nickel and dime on my animal's care, but I know when a place is trying to squeeze out every dollar without effort when: A. Costs are not made clear from the beginning and there is pushback for even trying to ask beforehand. I find it laughable that another commenter said to just ask for a pre-estimate when people are saying they did and their request was denied or brushed past. B. Unnecessary treatments and procedures are recommended and even done without prior conversation. We were not in the room with our pet during the exam, thus the no prior conversation comment. It may be due to COVID-19, which is fine, but the vet himself had no mask on when speaking to us which we found very rude (this is Delta time). Also, I use the word unnecessary because we are now with another vet in the area who told us what was done to our pet was not needed. And on top of that they actually completely missed a condition our cat did have that we explicitly asked them to check. We luckily got off the waitlist to go to this other vet who listened to us, and then found our concern was valid. C. The vet themselves doesn't ask when finally meeting with you directly "Any questions?" or "Did I address your concerns?" They took our cat into a room and just did whatever they wanted without addressing what we had brought up as concerns prior to the visit. I try not to assume someone's whole personality or mindset, but I would hope the number of reviews citing the vet's perceived rudeness and indifference would lead to some changes. read more

The owner of this practice is Dr. Weiner, but my family and I call him Dr. Grifter. I took my cat to this practice because I had recently moved to Cambridge, MA and this practice was near my apartment. I had recently taken her to my previous vet in a suburb of Boston, and they had said that she needed one tooth removed, which would cost $700. I then took her to Dr. Weiner, and his diagnosis was that she needed to have ALL of her teeth removed. He charged me $700 for that visit (what the hell?!) and then quoted me $2500 to remove all of her teeth. Dr. Weiner seemed confident and informed, so I left that visit feeling sad that my cat needed all of her teeth removed but supportive of that plan. Once I got home, however, I read some yelp reviews of this practice, and I discovered several reviews describing similar experiences ("took my cat in for a check-up and Dr. Weiner said all of their teeth needed to come out"). I grew skeptical and decided to return to my original vet, despite the now longer commute. I brought my cat back to my original vet, and their vet dentist supported their other colleague's original diagnosis: my cat needed one tooth removed. They removed that tooth, and charged me $700. It seems like Dr. Weiner has a pretty good business going - if he takes out all of one cat's teeth per month for an entire year ($2500/cat), he makes $30,000! Now you know why we call him Dr. Grifter. I will not be going back to Cambridge Veterinary Care. I do not trust them to put my cat's actual needs before their own profits. read more

I brought my 5 month kitten for a check up and shots here and had a really good experience. The staff were really friendly and accommodating. Appointment itself didn't take too long and Dr. Kate was very friendly. My kitten Julius was very calm after his shots. Will be coming back here again. Too Long Didn't Read Version: - I know how hard it is to find a vet during Covid, but please don't go for the benefit of your wallet and your pet. You will be ripped off and you will likely need to pursue legal action to protect yourself. - If you have no option but to go (like what I did), DO NOT fill out their feedback survey until after you have received their full services. - Before you go in, read the reviews and have the right expectation of how you will be treated. There's a reason the average review is so low (3.7 on google, 2.5 on yelp) while the majority of the vets in Boston are above 4.0. I read all the reviews on both Google and Yelp before coming in. I even canceled my first appointment with them after getting concerned with all the negative reviews but booked with them again given that I need to get my dog neutered before traveling and other vets were fully booked. We had an initial checkup with Dr. Weiner, costing ~$400. On top of that, they quoted $870 for neutering my 7-month, 9lb, healthy bichon frise. It was significantly more expensive than any vets we been to before (my family has 6 dogs in total), but because we were desperate, we decided to proceed with them. Later on, we received an email from the clinic asking for our feedback. The form was perceived to be autogenerated and anonymous. I filled out the form saying "service is expensive and they suggested services that were not necessary", with the pure intention of giving my feedback to help improve their business as requested. The unnecessary service was referring to the 5 optional vaccines. Three days before our neutering surgery appointment, Cambridge Veterinary Care canceled my appointment via email without an explanation. We called, the clinic said Dr. Weiner found our feedback "insulting" and decided not to perform the surgery. We were shocked. We were desperate so was trying to get our appointment back but the receptionist made it clear that the trust is broken and there was no way for Dr. Weiner to perform the surgery. We paid $400 with the understanding that Dr. Weiner would fulfill his obligation to provide the subsequent neutering surgery on our dog. We spent the past two weeks trying to get our money back but they refused to refund the full amount. The receptionist said "it is fine" when we told them we will take this to small claims court if they don't refund us. She also said "we knew you were going to write public reviews" but in fact, I had no interest in doing so (as you can see, this is my first review). Requesting customers for anonymous "candid feedback", only to rule out customers that took the time to provide constructive feedback, is both exploitative of our personal data and is extremely disingenuous. On top of that, they just simply DO NOT care about you and your pet unless you pay the rip-off price while kissing Dr. Weiner's ass. read more

It can be hard to find a good vet, and this place is definitely not it. Dr. Weiner is INCREDIBLY rude, patronizing, and condescending. He tried to push us to do vaccinations that my dog didn't need yet, and when we asked the cost of them (we couldn't afford to do them until it was actually time to) he rolled his eyes and began to tell us the cost of treatment for if he got ill. I went to a different vet recently to do said vaccinations (now that it's actually time, a month later) and they charge MUCH less than Cambridge Vet, and we're very kind. My dog left shaking and wouldn't leave my side for a few hours, and I have no idea why he would act that way except for him feeling uncomfortable with the doctor (he received no vaccinations that day, just a check up). There are plenty of other vets in the area that will treat you much better than this, and that charge you much less. read more

We brought one of our new pet rats here at the start of the pandemic. His breathing was loud and crackly, and he clearly had some lung infection. The Vet ( a male) came out to sidewalk and told, essentially, rats just get lung infections and come back if it gets worse. This didn't seem right at all. So we brought him somewhere else for a second opinion. At the different Vet, the dr. explained what the infection was, how and why rats get these infections, what to do to prevent flare ups, and antibiotics to clear it up. We were left feeling that Cambridge Vet didn't care about treating a lowly rat and what do we expect from a rodent. Almost 100 dollars to be told NOTHING and have NOTHING done. The difference in care and communication made me realize that we were right to feel blown off at Cambridge Vet. Now we drive 30 minutes away, often in traffic for our rat care. read more

This review is super overdue but after sitting with this for a while and seeing others' similar reviews, I feel like it's irresponsible of me not to mention my experience. I usually never write reviews ESPECIALLY not negative ones. In November 2016, I adopted my 8 year old cat from my mother and we brought my cat in for an initial visit and microchip, etc. They were super nice and I felt supported. They checked her out and gave her a general good bill of health. Great. I was thrilled to find a vet close to our apartment! In May of 2017, we brought her in for her 6 month checkup and suddenly they told me that she had terrible tooth resorption and periodontal disease and needed to have 14-16 teeth removed. They had mentioned nothing about her teeth 6 months earlier, plus that is half of her teeth. HALF. Oh, and it would be wildly expensive, of course. Something didn't sit well with me so I looked up some Yelp reviews and did some research on feline tooth resorption. My cat didn't have any of the symptoms, and I noticed that several reviews mentioned that Dr. Weiner wanted to take their pets' teeth as well. I also noted that the cats at the vet didn't have any teeth either. Odd. In a move that I will forever be grateful that I did, I sought a second opinion at Boston Veterinary Clinic. They said she needed a cleaning and had some mild gingivitis, and ended up removing only one of her teeth. (BTW, I absolutely recommend BVC - we were with them for years after and had great experiences with them!) ONE tooth, vs. HALF her teeth. Absolutely wild. I no longer live in Boston and a third vet has now been looking after her teeth where I am now, and 4 years later she has not needed any more teeth removed even as a senior kitty (she just had an extensive cleaning done today actually - which is what reminded me of this situation 4 years ago - and again, some mild gingivitis but otherwise good teeth!). She eats great and has no signs of pain. I hate to be negative as the staff and the veterinarian seemed like generally kind people, and tooth resorption is a real condition that can affect 20-60 percent of cats, but this guy clearly has a weird thing with pet teeth and is far too overzealous in extracting them. That, to me, makes it hard to trust them and hard to feel safe letting beloved pets in their care. Trust your gut and get a second opinion!!! read more

I dealt with Cambridge Veterinary Care in the summer of 2017. I am leaving this review now after I recently had a conversation with a friend who lives in the area about her sick cat, mentioning to her that she should absolutely not take her pet here, and her suggesting that I should add my review publicly to help others. I brought a sick cat here for several visits before realizing how little they cared for actually helping the cat as his condition worsened. I then took him to an alternate veterinarian that provided the cat with very high quality care, gave a diagnosis that matched the cat's very serious symptoms, and patiently walked me through appropriate care for the cat. Frankly I had been a little bit bewildered and too trusting as I sought out help, and my experience at the other Vet snapped me awake to how little that Dr. Weiner / Cambridge Veterinary Care had actually been doing to help the cat. Cambridge Veterinary Care: 1) Puts almost no effort into diagnosis or real quality of care. 2) Very obviously runs their business by minimizing time spent with pet and owner, while maximizing opportunities for extensive billing. 3) Should be avoided for any pet health situation that seems like it could be serious. I genuinely question the credibility and perhaps even authenticity of any positive review on this page, except perhaps in cases where people are bringing in their pets for routine checkups or minor issues that do not require serious effort to diagnose and treat. I intend no malice to the business itself or the people who work there, and instead am sharing this review in a positive spirt for anyone who believes they are looking at a serious health situation for their pet and making the important choice of where to go to give the highest quality care for their animal friend. These are dishonest people. 1. I brought my dog in for vax/checkup on Dec 31. I also called ahead to check if they'd fill out a Veterinary Health Form (air travel). They said yes, no problem, they'd print it out and fill it out for me. No mention of charge. 2. After my dog's appointment, they returned the Veterinary Health Form, mostly filled out. No charge was made for the form. 3. I realized they'd forgotten to initial some of the "Initial here" spots on the Veterinary Health Form, so I called on Jan 2 to see if I could swing by to have the form completed, just in case the airline was picky. They said sure, bring it by. No mention of charge. 4. I brought them the form. They completed the portions they'd forgotten the first time around. They came back and told me, on second thought, this will cost $38, and we forgot to charge you the first time. 5. I told them no, in that case just give me the partially completed form back; I didn't think it would be a big deal for the airline if some of the "Initial here" slots were left blank. 6. The worker told me that she was unwilling to return the form to me, since the doctor had already initialed in the remaining spots. 7. I expressed that I thought this was wrong, but paid the $38 and left. So here I am, paying an extra $38 because during FOUR INTERACTIONS with these people, they "forgot" to inform me that getting this form filled out cost extra money. They had four chances to inform me of this cost; I would have gladly obliged; but no, they waited until after I brought the form back to be corrected, proceeded without my informed consent, and then billed me to even get the form back. It's not my fault that three separate people on four different interactions neglected to inform me about the price of having a form filled out. What's worse, no one even apologized to me for this failure in communication. This charge should be refunded. read more

If you don't want to read this whole long review, this sentence sums it up: DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!! We took our new guinea pig that we had gotten less than 2 weeks before to this vet because she was lethargic, making a strange choking noise, and seemed to have trouble breathing/moving. I had called a few other vets and read online that it was urgent and we should bring her to a vet asap. This vet supposedly had experience with exotic/small animals and we brought her there without reading reviews because it seemed to be something urgent. They spent 10 minutes with her, and came out and told us nothing was wrong. The vet was also incredibly rude and he seemed like he couldn't possibly care less. He was dismissive of our concerns and didn't care about us in the slightest. He charged us $200 and we prepaid for him to run a test that was going to happen a week later. He also gave us syringes and a feeding powder that we were supposed to mix with water so that she would eat. $200 for him to tell us she was fine. We went home and she was still not doing good. She progressively got worse over time. We knew something was still wrong so we decided to look at reviews for this place. We saw that they were all bad and that out of almost 90 reviews, not a single one mentioned guinea pigs. That leads me to believe that he probably doesn't have a ton of experience with guinea pigs. After seeing those reviews, we decided we wanted to get a second opinion & we found an online vet service that charged us $1 and were incredibly helpful and nice. The woman that helped us had been a vet for 15 years and she stayed on the chat even hours later when I messaged her again. She told us she definitely has GI and respiratory issues. She recommended we go see a vet and we told her we already had and that they said she was fine. She said that they missed a lot of obvious symptoms and told us to demand antibiotics. We called them but they were already closed. That night she passed away. She was obviously not fine. The only good things about this experience were that they gave us a full refund and all of the receptionists/nurses were incredibly kind. They should go out of business though. They're dishonest and overprice things and the vet is incredibly rude. read more

We chose Cambridge Veterinary Care because we brought home our new puppy during the pandemic and this was the only place taking new patients. Throughout our time with them, communication was almost non-existent, the techs all showed very different levels of knowledge and gave us conflicting information, and we always felt pressured into tests and treatments that were expensive and sometimes seemed excessive. Some bulletpoints: - Dr. Weiner rarely comes out to explain his recommendations or the results of exams, and when he does, he rolls his eyes and does not answer questions or acknowledge concerns. - The techs vary wildly in their levels of knowledge. Often they don't look up your pet if you call to ask a question about their treatment--they just try to answer you off the cuff and then if you call back to clarify, someone else gives you different advice. The techs are perfectly nice for the most part, but not helpful. - We were pressured into $400 worth of tests for an upper respiratory infection, and then were told that the vial of blood had broken on the way to the lab and we would need to bring our pup in for another draw. This may not have actually been the fault of Cambridge Vet, but given that the rest of their behavior does not inspire confidence, it was the last straw for us. I would absolutely not recommend them and have switched our dog to another vet. read more

Whatever you do DO NOT GO HERE. They are NOT A SAFE PRACTICE. During the beginning of COVID we needed a vet and they were the only ones in the area seeing new patients and now we know why. I have many reasons for disliking this vet - zero communication while our puppy was being seen during his visit and after - was never told his weight after the 5 visits he had since March to now. Was also never told the plan of care after each visit. When we first got our puppy he had giardia and needed treatment and since the first treatment he has been having on/off GI issues and this vet just keeps giving us antibiotics and charging us 3x the cost for Cerenia with no plan or signs/symptoms to look out for if things get worse. During the last visit we were refused our puppy's lyme disease vaccine and the reasoning was because "we wouldnt be able to tell if he was throwing up/having diarrhea from the vaccine or throwing up/having diarrhea from whatever is going on with him." I confirmed with another vet that most vaccines do not cause vomiting/diarrhea and that it was inappropriate of them to refuse to give our puppy the vaccine. At this time we were put on a month of more of the same abx (after already putting him on abx for weeks) and then when that dose of abx (50mg) stopped working and he got sick again they increased it to 250mg which is hard on a dogs kidneys let a lone a puppy and our dog doesn't drink that much water. Luckily I work in the medical field and I am aware of this and know I need to ensure my dog is well hydrated but the vet never mentioned any of this - which if I were an ordinary person would need to know this information to avoid permanent kidney damage. In addition to this constant on/off of putting our puppy on cerenia and antibiotics for months, we're never once offered the opportunity to ask questions, speak with a vet or vet tech, or are provided the notes from each visit (which is a standard at most vets during COVID). I hope this review finds people helpful in avoiding a potential disaster as this place is disorganized and unprofessional - leading me to think its a ticking time bomb for a major medical mistake to happen. read more

I tend not to post negatives reviews, opting to provide direct feedback, as I understand the potential impact on a business, especially a smaller local business. However, in this instance I felt compelled to write a review as the care and well being of family pets are at stake here. Dr Weiner seems component, but the practices customer service could be improved. Patience while explaining vet stuff and answering questions would be great. And it would also be nice if the techs were not seen on the side of the building smoking butts (maybe a personal pet peeve..but it is 2018, right?). I also get the sense that some recommended surgeries are not as imperative as explained here. Within the reviews here, there is at least one other instance where a cat's teeth were recommended to be pulled where it may not have been needed. Throw my cat on this list as well. What led me to write this review is around cat boarding practices and associated customer service. My cat is a diabetic and requires insulin twice a day. I was told I could not pick up my cat on Sunday because no one is there on Sundays. Clearly, you need to wonder if my cat, as well as the other cats are being fed, given fresh water, let out of the cage, and in at least my case given medication. While on the phone with the practice manager at Cambridge Veterinary Care I explained how great it would be to board my cat with them due to the continuity of care this would provide. But I also explained that I was coming in late Saturday night. Subsequently, the practice manager told me I could pick the cat up Monday morning. This was after being told that they could not accept diabetic cats this particular weekend. So either they were lying to me, or no one comes in on Sunday even if cats board there. Either way I cannot put the well being of my pet in their hands any longer. This was on top of the rudeness from the initial tech I spoke to, and on top of the fact that the manager hung up the phone on me despite my calm demeanor. I have since transferred my pets care to another, friendlier practice that allows me to pick up my cat from boarding on Sunday and any day or evening. I assume as Dr Weiner slowly rides into retirement, that he could barely care about negative reviews. ***Update*** Upon reading this review the office emailed my cat's medical record to me and stated that they could no longer care for him. Although any business can refuse service, this is petty. And it only highlights the lack of service and type of office this vet is. read more

HORIBBLE and RUDE ! i've been taking my dog here for the past three months and these so called professionals are heartless and money hungry they told my family that my dog was a handful and has too many problems and they should sedate her next time. My german shepard has been trained to the T and has never had any issues with dealing with people. How dare you say you're going have to sedate my dog next time if you can't handle a bigger dog GET A NEW PROFESSION the women at the front desk are extremely rude and also part of the problem they will hang up on you and make disgusting comments about your dog. The veterinary office is completely unsanitary and the office assistants are very rude on the phone. The practice is very disorganized.

I love Cambridge Veterinary Care. They treat my cats like there own. They interact with them in a caring and compassionate way. They know their names. They remember reasons in the past I brought them in, and ask about them and how they are doing when I go in just to get their special food. Kim, who has been there for many years, is wonderful and really cares about the animals and making sure we are taken care of. They are a part of our lives. Thank you! read more

This is an absolutely appalling veterinary practice. I caution anyone reading this review NOT to bring your pet here. As many other reviews indicate, Dr. Weiner is deeply dishonest and his billing customs are shady beyond belief. There were things snuck onto the bill that we never requested nor were notified of until after they were done without any consultation. We were charged just shy of $800 for our kitten to be spayed (and almost $1,000 if you include the $200 blood draw charge). This is an astronomical fee, and is around 3-4 times more than you'd pay anywhere else (I consulted my friend who is in vet school and worked as a vet tech in the are previously after the visit and she confirmed this). Worse still, we were not even given an estimate of the cost until we showed up that morning for the surgery (after being told we would get an emailed estimate weeks earlier). We brought our two young kittens here because it was the only clinic in the area that did not have a waiting list (gee, I wonder why...) and we only paid the crazy fees because we had no choice, as our female kitten had gone into heat at 4 months old. They also charged us for an ear examination after our initial visit and failed to notice an ear infection that our new vet caught - it turns out our kitten was at risk of permanent hearing loss. It is really a wonder that these people are in business. In sum, this is a cold, deceitful veterinary practice. We have since moved on to Pet Haven in Watertown after getting off their waitlist, and are so thankful we did. read more

I was *EXTREMELY* nervous about coming here, given the horrible reviews, but for me it was a matter of necessity -- I needed to get my cats their latest rabies shots before Thanksgiving break when I'll be boarding them at a local "cat hotel" type thing. When I called to make the appointment, the woman on the phone was super friendly and I forget whether she upfront listed how much things would cost or I asked (given what I'd read), but what she quoted ended up being the case. She also said the vet would let me know if there was anything else he recommended but that it was up to me to decide whether to go forward or not (I'm guessing they've read some of these Yelp reviews at this point). I will say Dr. Weiner ended up adding on a fecal test for a sample he wants me to bring in to test for intestinal worms -- he mentioned he was adding it, though he didn't tell me the price and I had to ask for it. I also had to ask what the test was for. I definitely think it should have been more of an "I recommend we do xyz, that sound good," but ultimately I didn't care that much since I could have said no and I was able to get the info. The staff was very nice - the two women I dealt with at the front desk were very nice and helpful, as was the nurse who helped out during the appointment. Both of my cats seemed to feel pretty cool, and they do NOT like the vet. Normally one of them always hisses, but he didn't at all, which surprised me. In the end, I felt very comfortable with Dr. Weiner and he reassured me several times saying that both my cats looked to very healthy and were looking great, I should just keep doing what I was doing, because that was obviously working, etc. etc. I was thinking I would just go there for the rabies shot and find another permanent vet once the holidays were over (I moved to the area not that long ago), but I might just stay with them. I've been bringing my dog here for a year and the staff is wonderful. My dog has had numerous incidents over the year and every single time their treatment plans have led to a speedy recovery. From a dog bite at the park to reoccurring GI issues. Every negative review is from people who think they are somehow veterinary experts and can hardly afford their pets medical costs. I don't typically post negative reviews, and certainly not for small businesses, but I feel compelled to in this case. I will open by saying the staff at Cambridge Vet Care in my experience were lovely, thoughtful, and extremely helpful. However, Dr. Weiner himself is a dangerous, untrustworthy vet. He practices outdated veterinary care that I have come to understand in talking to other vets endangered my puppy over a period of many months. He is also rude, patronizing, and overbearing to owners. He is unwilling to answer questions or describe care, and will provide intentionally misleading responses in an attempt to delay further questioning. He also consistently begins expensive procedures without the owner's knowledge or consent, and does not tolerate questions about price well nor engage with the owner to create a plan of care. My experience has also been that this vet upcharges you significantly for services. Price and owner treatment, while important, are obviously secondary to the health of your pets and I tolerated poor treatment as a fair tradeoff for the convenience until I realized how inadequate the care provided really was. The location is great, the staff are lovely, but someone else should take over the business. Bottom line: my experience was that Dr. Weiner is unfit to treat your pets. read more

This quack killed my dog. My dog was a little sick and I took him to see this guy. He recommended a litany of tests that would involve sedating my dog. He did every test from Lyme disease to a heart test to an ultrasound. My dog came home overly sedated and passed away in his sleep that night. Dr Quack sent me an email the morning after my dog died saying that everything was okay with my dog and that he was healthy. Then when I called the doctor to ask what happened after balling my eyes out he said "You had a very sick dog. We can do an autopsy for 1,000 if you want", demonstrating his incredibly poor bedside manner. He said my dog was healthy by email and then when I asked him what happened he said my dog was very sick. I don't understand how my healthy dog was suddenly deemed very sick or how his first thing was to ask for an autopsy. This guy has poor bedside manner and is an awful vet. Think about this, if there was something wrong with my dog, he should've diagnosed it given the 2600 worth of tests he did after taking one look. If there was nothing wrong with my dog (which was his conclusion) my dog should be alive right now. So he's either a bad vet who can't do his job or a terrible vet who killed my dog. Either way, there are other vets out there. Don't waste your time on this charlatan. I don't recommend anyone taking a pet to this guy. He is the worst. read more

*********Revision************ UPDATE - Since my initial posting, someone (whom I'm assuming to be an employee of CVC - otherwise the question needs to be raised of who they give billing information to) wrote me harassing emails accusing me of lying in my review and was nice enough to even provide half of my bill for me, and then try to tell me that it was the entire thing. Yet ANOTHER reason to NEVER associate yourself with this establishment. ORIGINAL - I'm going to agree with everyone except Eve - sorry! I didn't have Dr. Weiner when I brought in my cat but had the new lady that Eve mentioned. I found her callous and rude. I brought in my cat because our painters let her outside and she was out all night before I found her. She wasn't acting the same when I finally caught her so I promptly brought her in. The receptionist barely acknowledged me and the vet tech was rough with my cat. Perhaps I'm overly sensitive because she's my cat but I appreciate people handling living things with care. Anyways....they were having major problems drawing blood from my cat and had to stick her several times with the needle in both legs. By the time they got blood she was growling and the vet said something like "it's always the bitchy ones that don't bleed". Ummm...sorry? Did she just call my cat a bitch? I was FLOORED. Then she proceeds to tell me that my cat in in desperate need of flea/tick medication (she's strictly an indoor cat) and that since she was outside she more than likely has anti-freeze poisoning. So they did a bunch of tests to find out of she had anti-freeze poisoning and an inordinate amount of money later, I take my cat home and try to get her to use this weird litter they provided. They told me to bring it back the next day. I went home and did research and learned that animals need treatment within 9-12 hours in ingesting anti-freeze, otherwise they'll die. So why would this vet have me wait until the next day, wouldn't it be too late and all my money be in vain? They also told me my cat needed a teeth cleaning and to have some removed - they also stated that the prices started at $700 (I called other vets and learned that rates typically start at $350) and, in general, had me leaving their office feeling like a horrible pet owner. I feel like this vet is overpriced and uses fear tactics to get people to pay for unnecessary services. The fact that she had the nerve to insult my pet in front of me is unforgivable, my cat is my family. I will never go back. read more

I hate starting out a business with a negative review, but... I took my puppy to Dr. Bruce Weiner because she had just developed a cherry eye, and needed her first check-up and second round of vaccinations. Fortunately, we were able to schedule an appointment two days later, first thing Saturday morning at his Boston office (Huntington Ave). All said, the appointment cost us $440. He said that everything he gave our puppy was routine, standard, and recommended, but I started to get suspicious when he showed us a heart in a jar infested with heartworm. I don't want to say that he pushed scare-tactics, but I do think that his recommendations, while perhaps medically correct, aren't absolutely necessary. Interestingly enough, we were scheduled to bring our puppy back for a third round of vaccinations, but when I instead brought her to the Merwin Free Clinic, the doctor there said that, for example, only two shots and not three were required for Bordetella. (The Internet confirms this.) Dr. Weiner also gave us some eyedrops for puppy's cherry eye, which were useless. (Dr. Weiner said that if the eyedrops don't work, come back in a week, and he'll give us some ointment.) The doctor at the Merwin gave us the ointment and that brought the swelling down almost instantly. So I suppose the take-home is that I suspect that Dr. Weiner over-charges, over-medicates, and tries to get you in for multiple appointments. (Apparently, the first appointment is free.) Otherwise, though, I think that his office demeanor, treatment of the animals, and staff are professional, and if it weren't for the sticker-shock (or my lack of thousands of dollars) I'd probably go see him again. read more

I COMPLETELY concur with the reviewers. The bill is always far inflated above what seems fair. At one point, I dated a nice vet student who told me that the ethical (and, coincidentally, legal) practice for vets was that they needed to fully explain every procedure and shot they are giving your pet in order to allow you to make an informed decision about what you want to give your dog. Instead of anything like this happening, the meeting was a whirlwind of shots, prescriptions, and fecal samples. Next thing I know, I was out $500 bucks and I had no idea what had happened. Now, to be honest, I would have spent the money had I known it was necessary, but this was never addressed and I am still unclear about this. A second visit had a similar result. I was prescribed everything from pills to shampoo, and, of course, a fecal sample was taken. I do not feel that the practices of this office are as open as they should be, and there is almost no way for someone to make an informed decision about what is happening. read more

VISTED THE HUNTINGTON AVE location, same doctor. We brought her (my precious) from the breeder to get the recommended day after check up. And he gave her a FLEA and TICK thing called PREVENTION. I listened to the vet and allowed him to do this to her because you tend to listen to the professionals. After reading Paul H's review I know for sure he just wanted to add more to the bill. She was only a 1lb puppy and the breeder said it was wrong to give her something like PREVENTION because she's not going to be outside for at least a week so she could get used to us and her new home. The trauma of moving to a new home is enough to cause upset stomach so to cause more problems from the flea and tick thing (such as diahrea, upset stomach, etc) was unnecessary until the next Vaccine visit . We chose his office for the convenience (I mean they were right down the street!!!!!!!!!!) but the only place to go is BROOKLINE ANIMAL HOSPITAL - Dr. Feldman. (plus they are open on Sundays). To this day and even after telling them my dog passed, I still receive their magazine with appointment reminders. read more

I sure am glad I checked these reviewed before I went into this business. I tried to find another nearby vet on short notice for a relatively urgent problem, and I couldn't find one who was taking new patients. So, I went into Cambridge Veterinary Care with my guard up. With good reason. My dog needed his anal sacs taken care of. He had some surface skin irritant due to biting this area because of the anal sac problem. If I would've taken all the shots and pills and treatments this guy wanted to give me, I wouldn've left with a bill totaling more than $335 for this very simple problem. Even with my guard up and declining several recommended treatments, I ended up with a bill totaliing almost $200. This is obscene for such a simple issue. What concerns me most about this vet is they don't have any sensitivity to the risks of overtreatment. Any overtreatment can potentially result in harm. It's risky. If you don't want someone who throws a ton of treatments at you, doesn't ask you what you think, doesn't give you price estimates, doesn't have an affable demeanor, doesn't have good rapport with animals, and is kind of sloppy overall, then do not schedule an appointment with this place. Oh, and don't be fooled by the Kuerig coffee machine in the lobby! It is probably the best feature of the place, other than the women at the front desk who are friendly but I imagine are caught up in the whole scheme to bilk their clients at the insistence of their employers. read more

The staff, receptionist, aides and doctor (Tubman) were all very nice to me, and friendly and gentle towards my cat. When holding my cat they petted her slowly and gently and she calmed down quickly. They listened patiently as I described a melange of problems - my overweight, asthmatic cat had been vomiting lately - and worked with me to chart a plan to sort out my cat's stomach issue, asthma and diet. They asked that I call back in a few days to let them know how everything was going. They described treatment alternatives and relative costs, I did not feel pressured into any particular course of treatment. Their website doesn't mention parking but when I got there the receptionist told me that they do have a few spots in the parking lot at the end of their building. They have two office cats, who were friendly towards me but avoided my cat in her carrier. In short, I had a great visit and would definitely go back again! read more

Dr. Weiner and his team are incredible! I took my dog for her routine rabies vaccination, and Dr. Weiner and his staff spotted a small swelling in her abdomen that I had completely missed. I was very worried it would be something serious, so they immediately scheduled a surgery for the following week. They answered all of my questions, and discussed several plans with me should the mass be something more serious. They even helped me sign up for a pet insurance program that would cover a large portion of the surgery costs! It turns out that the mass was a bad hernia, and we were lucky that they were able to spot it and take care of it quickly. It's so rare to find veterinarians that are this thorough, but also kind and conscientious. Really happy to have found them! read more

Wow, tough reviews, and I of course can't argue with a word of them. When it's your pet anything that seems less than excellent care is unacceptable. But in the interests of a balance, I will say that I have received what I consider to be excellent care by Dr.Weiner for my cat at both locations over the last four years. I used to live in Porter and now live in Brookline, so I've switched from the Cambridge office to the Boston office, but obviously, it's the same vet. I took my cat to see him for that first post-arrival visit, for a frightening eye disorder she developed (he then referred me to a wonderful surgeon out west of town), for several annual normal-cat checkups, and for an exceptionally terrifying rabies scare when my cat and I woke up one afternoon from a nap to find a bat lying in bed with us. FYI: Any exposure (even suspected -- meaning no bite marks) to a confirmed case of rabies for an animal who's not 100% up on her rabies shot means quarantine or death. Through all of these visits, some crises, some not, he has always been friendly to me, good with the cat, straightforward about prognosis, plans, and tests. His techs are always nice, and they always coo appreciatively at my pretty kitty. One thing he is not, is cheap, but I've spoken with other cat owners and I'm not convinced anyone's getting a significantly better deal in the Brookline area. An annual well-cat visit for a "senior" cat will run about $275. At least with cats, the vets don't usually offer you any heartworm/flea meds. But it does seem like a lot to pay for for an annual visit. So I'm really sorry that people have had a bad time with Dr. Weiner. I haven't. read more

I brought my "large" 6 year old dog to the vet clinic because I could walk him there. I was worried about cancer. I have been treated with nothing but kindness and patience, and my dog loves it there also. He did not have cancer! They are wonderful. Thorough examination, and we just got our yearly inoculations which didn't "break the bank." read more

Well, color me confused. I got no sketchy vibes from this place and my appointment with Dr. Tubman, but now I'm sort of concerned.....not because the care seemed unprofessional but because I wonder now if I'm paying more than I should. My gut still tells me this place is legit. I didn't have the infamous Dr. Weiner -- I met with Dr. Tubman, who seemed compassionate and knowledgeable. I had not had a full work-up done on my cat in a couple of years so I wanted him to do bloodwork and take a urine sample. I knew this would be expensive. The tests revealed that my cat has diabetes. This diagnosis meant more tests and another visit for me to learn how to administer insulin injections. So far, nothing has seemed that exorbitant, but I'm definitely a little weirded out by all the negative reviews. As a loyal Yelper, I trust this community. Anyway, I'll update this review if need be and as I continue to learn more about my cat's condition and what "normal" costs of her treatment are. read more

The only drawback to Cambridge Veterinary Care is the price tag. Dr. Weiner is businesslike and efficient, and his vet techs are very nice and helpful. I've experienced a range of their feline services--shots, senior wellness exams, boarding--and have no complaints about the quality of care. The staff also handle telephone inquiries well. The bills, of course, are another matter, but I wouldn't call them outrageous--"pricey" would be a more accurate term. Also, I see that some of the reviewers complained about being given pamphlets rather than a talk about the basics of new pet ownership, but I actually prefer that--then I can always refer back to the written material, rather than checking my shoddy memory. But, yes, I understand that the issue is his bedside manner (or lack thereof). All in all, I think it's a good place to take your beloved pet. read more

I have to disagree with the previous reviewers. We love Dr. Weiner. He recently expanded his practice and the new office space is GORGEOUS. The kennel, although I've never used it, looks really wonderful and comfortable for animals. Dr. Weiner has always been very efficient and good-humored, despite having one cat who can be a difficult patient. The expansion brought in another woman, whose name I have forgotten, who is also excellent. She's younger, African-American, with long, long dreds, and I think she said she used to be an intern at Cambridge Vet, so that's kind of cool. Anyway, I recommend them highly. I continue to go there even though I moved across town. Going to the vet is expensive - even more so if you have 2 cats - but I haven't found them to be inflating the charges. Moreover, I have had conversations with them around working with what we could afford - particularly around bringing our cats in for dental cleaning and only doing bloodwork on 1 cat, since they're indoor cats. Just like when you go to the doctor, you have to speak up and advocate for what you think you need and can afford. It's the doctor's obligation to tell you what optimal treatment is (and I have found Dr. Weiner to be very helpful at explaining things and tends to actually start with the least invasive options) and your job to figure out what you can afford and what you think is necessary, just like a parent would. read more
