My granddaughter has been in Thomas hospital because she has passing out and seizures.She has been diagnosed with pots before her being admitted.The cardiologist said negative for pots even though she couldn't finish the tilt test that is the primary way to diagnose pots.The people in nuclear medicine said they had to stop the test because her heart rate and blood pressure was going crazy they said definitely pots.Also the neurologist has only been once and jD done nothing but order a eeg for an hour.The nurse's have been great but the Dr are terrible not really gi ing and answered.The hospitalist was on this morning and was going to try to find out what is going on.Also they seem to have 2 different charts on her and a nurse read on one the charts said she has connective tissue disorder We have been going through this for 3 years thought we would finally get answers but no we did not.I am very disappointed in the Hospital and the Drs I am giving the worst review that can be given .I won't even give a one star review .Since I can't post this review until I give a star I will only give one star read more

My 84 yr old mother took a bad fall and they had no beds . She has been in a room in the ER for 3 days. Beside the fact there were no rooms which can't be helped, the nurses, PA's and doctors treated her like she was their mother. I really appreciated her treatment. read more

And, no one wants to communicate anything regarding my aunt's health, even with an active Durable Power of Attorney in place, added with the fact that she was found to not have capacity to make decisions. They released her without contacting the POA with discharge instructions even though they found her incompetent. Their actions made a bad situation even more so for herself and family. read more

Horrible if you actually need nutrition. I've told the dietitian as well as the hospitality's working my case numerous times, I cannot eat the food they try giving me more the way the cook it. Most of it actually makes me physically vomit so where is the nutritional value in that? Here is the menu I filled out for tomorrow with a special message at the top of each section. Veterans Evaluation Services (VES) made an appointment for me to have X-rays to aid them in determining my rating for service-connected disability. While attempting to go through the registration process, I was asked to sign a document agreeing to be personally responsible for payment in the event that VES did not pay. Because I was aware that Thomas Hospital already has an agreement with VES that Thomas Hospital will bill only VES and that Thomas "will not bill the Veteran under any circumstances for such services" and because a had a negative experience in the past regarding this issue, I was not willing to sign this document unless we added a statement that acknowledged the Hospital's agreement not to hold me accountable for paying for this. The staff would not work with me to resolve this in a reasonable and consistent manner but, rather, stated that they would inform the doctor who was to use the X-rays that I had "refused services." THOMAS hospital refused to provide the ordered service. I did not refuse service. This distinction might become important as the VA investigates my disability claim. read more

It's terrible. You're too busy downtown larping in Make up acting like Mass Casualty victims to terrorize WV. Yet you can't even get me registered, or even get an ultrasound done without going through terrible scheduling now. You can't even get appointments right. WVU has turned Thomas Hospital into a joke. I continue to warn against going to this ER! My son was within hours of death according to his neurosurgeon at CAMC. He was operated on within hours of arrival and spent 1 month at CAMC recovering from a deadly staff infection which literally rotted his neck bones! We went to the ER at Thomas Hospital 1st. My son was 42 and an EMT. He's been suffering for close to a week before going to ER. The doctor clearly said he would NOT order a needed MRI as my son had no insurance. He said he should go see his family doctor! We went immediately to CAMC who saved his life! I wouldn't take a sick animal to those horrible people at Thomas! read more

A relative of mine was tested positive for covid, so I called Thomas Memorial to ask about treatment options. Everyone seemed completely confused, had no idea what to do. Eventually they passed me to a young man in the ER who said, "Uh... well, we don't really do covid here. You're just supposed to quarantine. She doesn't need an ER. Tell her to quarantine." I was admitted to Thomas Hospital and placed on the 4th floor, Ashley went out of her way performing her duties and always smiling, great mood and eager to tend to your needs. I had a wonderful nursing staff. My problem is with the social services and one gal that sees that walkers and canes are delivered. I was in room 275. I called her and she doesn't return calls. My daughter called..no response. I called We Care that furnished my cane and they wanted to insist that the cane was versatile I.e., right or left hand. Wrong!! finally agreed to deliver a new cane to my home and so far, haven't seen it. Think WVU needs to take a look at their staff and companies they hire to make sure they are doing their job..a necessary, important job! read more

My experience as a patient has been absolutely horrendous! I have so many experiences that occurred in my stay to many to document in 1review. Beginning @my discharge moving backwards.Corporate Upper echelon, Supervision, pls correlate this review with my hospital charts. My final day I returned from seeing a specialist@4:30 after being there since 1:30. My nurse Anita began my discharge papers. My hospitalst came to check w/me ab medication & advised that he could have my prescription sent to Thomas's pharmacy. While I waited I was told to pay $3 I attempted several times to give a $50 dollar Bill to pay for meds. I was told they would bring the prescriptions up. I was told by a nurse that I could depart by cab. Thomas will order a cab for you. Fine for me since I was dropped off. I presume the cab was called. Upon the cab arrived my nurse was in the middle of finishing my discharge papers &had not removed IV from my arm.Tyler charge nurse on 4th floor absolutely a terrible personality, came to my room advised a cab was there. I advised my nurse had not removed my IV, pls let the cab go I do not need Thomas assistance w/a cab. I have cash I prefer not to be rushed. I offered Tyler to pay the $3 prescriptions. He walked away shaking his head.At this time another dreadful person who has seemed biased (racist) woman by the name of RUTH ANN who I learned was a discharge nurse. In all my stay Ruth was Never kind! Walk by my room, stair in never say hello. Always piercing eyes looking in my room I could tell Ruth was not friendly. During the mix of Tyler's berate she advised my cab is not waiting. I advised her that's fine I have money to pay for a cab if need be,(mind you I still have an IV in my arm). I also showed Ruth my $50 to pay for the $3 of my prescription. Anita was adamant to pay $3.Then advising my nurse had not removed IV yet. Ruth then advised I had 10 mins to leave or they were calling the police.While I had an IV in my arm. I then asked her please find my nurse so this IV can be removed. By this time a very loud boisterous ignorant woman by the name Valerie came to the room literally screaming &yelling @me saying take the cab downstairs right now Thomas is paying for this cab. I advised her, I have money I can pay for a cab. I just came from a specialists @4:30, just spoke to my hospitalist ab my prescriptions 5pm, just received my prescriptions waiting to take out my IV5:30hence I didn't want to put a shirt sleeve on top of my IV. I asked Valerie who she was, she advised that she was a hospital Nurse Supervisor.As I tried to explain to her she spoke over top of me throughout my attempting to respond to her questions. Which sticks out in retrospect how she advised I changed the location of my prescription pick up. I then advised her my hospitalist was supposed to change the location to the Thomas pharmacy yesterday. She yelled at me, said the location change was at your request. I then again attempted to respond to her she yelled over top of me & said what time can you be out. When she finished yelling at me I said I am going to finish my statement. As I attempted to again state to advise belligerent Valerie I asked my prescriptions pick up to be at Thomas today. I then followed advising give me a 30 mins to gather my belongings, depart. Valerie then asked who is picking me I told her it is none of your concern. She then advised your not going to tell me that's how you want it? In a very threatening tone. I advised it is not your concern. At this time I advised Unprofessional loud Valerie to stop yelling at me I have not yelled at her at no point. She advised yelling again that's the way she speak. I am a soft spoken person so I portrayed her yelling at me then reduced my tone &advised her yes she was yelling @me making uncomfortable. Armani/hailee helped me depart. This hospital is a complete joke every time I'm on the campus for even routine tests it's a three hour minimum. They have zero and I mean zero concern for the fact you may not be able to spend the whole day with them just to get an ultrasound. I would give them less stars if I could and I will tell my family dr to never send me here again for test, just save yourself the headache and go to CAMC! read more

My wife had surgery here and they were great! Zero complications.. She also went ot the imaging center....very nice place. They have a nurses that drew blood with out hurting her...she's got skills. Thomas has friendly, caring, compassionate nurses and doctors The doctor came out and talked to me a couple times and let me know what was going on and what we needed to do to follow up. This is what a hospital is supposed to be like. Nice clean...Private rooms They have a Starbucks in the front lobby and a great cafeteria downstairs (who says hospital food is bad...not here). We also did not have problems with our bill getting messed up (unlike other places I have been) What a great place! read more

Although at first because of the ER check in, I was unsure what my experience would be. Afterward though the staff treated me great, very friendly and professional. Went in for chest pain, had a stress test and then heart cath. Thankfully I'm good but all the ones who took care of me in ER and Cath Lab were caring and very friendly. read more

I wouldn't recommend bringing a sick goldfish to this place. I have been here since Monday morning for a hand infection. Tuesday I was told not to eat or drink anything after midnight to prep for surgery, I ended up going just shy of 19 hours with no food or drink. I've had a handful of doctors, nurses, surgeons who have been wonderful, but everybody else seems to do the bare minimum. Not one time since I've been in this room has anybody changed my sheets, even after performing my surgery while I was in my bed. I had to put a blanket over the pus that came out during my surgery last night, yet still nobody has came to change my sheets. There was dried blood in the cabinet by the sink from the previous patient which wasn't cleaned until Wednesday around 1 am. The nurses are very short and provide barely any information except for a select few of them. Also if you have no insurance, go somewhere where the people will treat you like a human being instead of this filthy place. I will never be back here unless it is against my will. read more

Was just at their ER husband told he had a kidney stone to large to pass instead of treatment to remove or breakup they tell him he needs to leave as they have other patients. Referring him to differnt dr who from what i understand will have to wait to see to eventually schedule back with hospital to have the treatment they should have gave him today.. I have never seen such unorganized, unhappy and unprofessional people in my live. My mother has been a patient there for the past week. In that time her Doctors have ignored pages, phone call and all calls in the hospital and they were on duty at the time. Nurses left their stations for hours at a time and could not be found to assist my mother to the restroom. She was left for more than 12 hours unattended and was force to soil herself. When a nurse was found they said she was not their patient and they had not idea where her nurse was. I can't imagine anyone one wanting to go here. read more

Be careful if your doctor is "associated" or "affiliated" with TMH. A visit to your doctor may result in surprise charges from TMH in addition to the charges from the office. I my case the TMH charges were 4 times more than the doctor's office. No explanation other than "related" to the doctor visit. read more

Love doctor cotes...everything went fine and everyone is doing ok...the staff checks in every so often and always ask if there's anything we need...we are staying for 2 days and the food is ok but it's nothing too bad...I still like the doc n hospital. read more

I had a doctors appointment at Thomas last week and I gave a urine sample for my main a chief complaint, a UTI. The lady at the doctors office ran a pregnancy test on my urine and threw it away. Before I left my appointment my doctor asked me if I got all my prescriptions that I needed and I asked her about the UTI I was experiencing. My doctor went to the back and asked the lady and apparently she had already gotten rid of my urine. My doctor informed me that I would have to come back with an order to give another urine sample so that they could do a urinalysis and urine culture on it. So I come back the following week to give a urine sample and I explain to registration that I need my parking ticket paid for since this was not my fault that I had to come back. The lady registering me told me that the lab could possibly have some validation stickers and If not, the main lobby you could help me. So I asked the lab and they told me they don't know what I'm talking about so I go to the main lobby. The lady tells me I can ask a ministration but that she doesn't know what I'm talking about either so I go into administration and she tells me I'll have to go up to the actual doctors office and ask them. So I go up to the doctors office and they tell me they don't know what I'm talking about either. At this point I am very very upset and I go back down to registration and ask the main lady at the front desk of registration. She tells me they don't do that. So I say to her "you might wanna let the lady that's working in window 4 know that you guys don't offer that considering the fact I just walked all over the hospital because of your all's mistake." Long story short, I used to work in a hospital and I know that everybody has something going on in their day to day life and to always be polite. One of the ladies at the main desk at registration interrupted me as I was telling her she might want to inform the lady at window 4 about them not having this validation stickers she was thinking they had saying that she was brand new and I said I understand that's fine but you might want to inform her so that she doesn't tell someone else about this made up validation sticker you all supposedly have. At this point I was pretty irate and just ended up walking out and paying for the ticket. read more

Absolutely terrible. Literally killed my grandfather. He was 82 and had severe hearing issues. He came down with Covid a couple weeks ago and had to be rushed to the hospital. These people are the same people that let my last grandfather down due to them not pursuing radiation on his finger while he was undergoing cancer on the finger and Alzheimer's, but it was the closest place we had. They asked him when he was hooked up to a noisy oxygen machine, also while they had masks on, mind you he can hear barely, if he "would like to be put on a vent if things got bad." He was alone, he was scared, probably couldn't hear the question clearly, and apparently said no. When things got really bad they said they wouldn't put him on a ventilator because he said he didn't want to be brought back. They had no proof of him even saying it. They made him "comfortable" without our saying so and 22 hours later he was gone. As soon as he passed they wanted to know what we wanted to do with the body. Absolutely disgusting. They just wanted the hospital bed. Don't take any of your loved ones here if you want them walking home at the minimum alive. Can't stand this place. read more

I lived this hospital when I had my baby back in may...they let us as a compliment thing cause bubby had to stay longer

This hospital has become one of my life, but I have seen good and really bad. When I was younger and I had my tonsils taken out and they gave me a cherry flavored mask to put me to sleep which was nice considering I was a kid. In recovery however, I kept vomiting all night. Eventually the nurse just made me sleep in the bed covered in my own vomit. Recently I have been in due to PTSD and I was treated good by the phlebotomist and ER techs. The psychiatrist however, needs her license revoked. I was told we choose how our life's are and that I was the problem despite my illness being the problem causing it. I was in the ER left in a room with the AC on in the winter with a paper thin blanket for almost 3 days with no food or water. Thankfully when I got out and had no money to buy a soda. One of the nice registration ladies gave me 2 free cans of soda and that meant a lot. There is good and bad, it just depends on who you get I guess. read more

Wouldn't trust them to treat an animal! My grandmother actually tripped and broke her hip from a piece of the wall that keeps the rolling beds from hitting the wall. It was broke and sticking out. Emergency room is DISGUSTING. Slowest care I have ever in my life seen. To be pregnant and have unbearable pain and wait in a waiting room for 4 hours is beyond a disgrace. Left and went to general. I cannot describe the agonizing experience my family and I had At Thomas with my mother and her battle with cancer. My mother chose the radiation dr associated with Thomas which made me uneasy right away. I am from Charleston but now live in Denver, CO. She liked her oncology team so I supported her decision. After the second radiation treatment my moms lung collapsed sending her to the Thomas memorial ER and then to The ICU. I was on my way home to be with my family so it took me two days to get there driving the RV I was going to surprise her with and continue our plan for her to move to Denver. Long story short the hospitalist on call said to my mother and younger sister "your mother is actively dying" without medical explanation or choices to further care. Her specialist had a different opinion and were ready to continue radiation. This Dr on call who just met my mother repeated these words upsetting my family. I work at a giant orthopedic hospital in Denver.. that bedside manner would not fly. I have been an OT for 9 years so I'm in the medical field. We were not in denial about her prognosis however when the person you love the most is laying in a hospital bed you want to save them it's a natural reaction. It felt very unprofessional and more like an immediate hospice situation. My mom quickly gave in and decided to stop treatment. In the end she was no longer in pain but I will always wonder what would have happened if we would've continued to fight.. Well Dr. Hess when it's your turn to be with your parents in a time of need you'll see you no longer become a doctor you become a son. read more

I recently spent 4 days here and they were great! The doctors, including Dr. Hess, Dr. Dave and Dr. Modi were extremely informative and generally cared about the care I received. I stayed on the fifth floor pavilion and my nurses and assistants were all very attentive, caring and friendly. They made sure that I was comfortable for my entire stay. I have had bad experiences with Thomas Hospital in the past but it was lovely to see such a positive change within the hospital. Other than the long wait in the emergency room and the procedures they use to see patients, my visit was great considering the circumstances. read more

If you can avoid this hospital, please for your own sake do. I sustained a serious injury to my face due to a fall. I sat in the waiting room for over 3 hours, before I was called back. At that time I was taken for a CT scan then sent back to the waiting room for an additional 3+ hours. When I was finally taken to a bed, my nurse said that she was very busy and she would be with me soon. I never spoke to her again. I waited an additional 2 hours expecting a Doctor to come in and examine my face, but NO Doctor ever came by. Instead the triage nurse that had checked me in came in and said "Well buddy, you didn't break anything. Just keep some ice on it and you'll be fine." I was never given a chance to speak with a Doctor about the questions I had about the blood pooling around my eye or other issues. It was a complete waste of time and money. I will never return to Thomas Hospital as long as I live. read more

In the ER of Thomas Memorial Hospital, on 11/22/2015, Quack Jason Tackett, DO, told me I had delusional parasitosis and a stye. My ophthalmologist later diagnosed me with having a large lacrimal cyst (tear gland cyst). Eye doc won't touch it unless it becomes painful or starts to interfere with my vision. In one of those cases, he will schedule me for surgery in an OR where I'll be sedated. Should he nick the wrong spot, I could lose tear production. Losing tear production forces REMOVAL OF THE EYEBALL. Thanks for your expertise, Quack at Thomas. Regarding the delusional parasitosis, I just want to type, "LOL!" My skin was itching without a rash and all my lymph nodes were swollen. My GP has ordered liver and kidney function testing because what happened to me was an allergic reaction to medicines that I've been on for years. Having a reaction like this to medicines that had previously caused no reaction is a sign of a systemic problem. Again, thanks for the expert advice, "Doctor" Tackett. A psychiatrist actually did laugh out loud after hearing my story of being diagnosed with delusional parasitosis. AVOID THIS HOSPITAL UNLESS YOU ARE TOO ILL TO TRAVEL FARTHER!!! Assuming they don't kill you, after you become stable, insist on transferring out of there. I'd give zero stars if I could. I, my mother, and my daughter were all born there. I have many friends who are nurses there. I will never step foot on Thomas property unless it's to visit someone unlucky enough to be admitted there. read more
