When I went back in to address the issue, they claimed to have no knowledge of how to fix it nor did they care to even take accountability. Before bringing in my camera, this issue was not an issue. i love supporting small businesses but unfortunately they are very old school and disorganized. they lost my camera that was gifted to me by my late dad. he called me once to pick up, i wasn't able to that day. i went in person to pick it up the person that was there couldn't find it. i came 2 other times and they said the owner was on lunch both times. they couldn't find it. i cannot help but think it was repaired and sold. i called him an additional 2 times and he did not answer. read more

Before I could get finish getting my request out, the crabby guy behind the counter told me that it would be 100 bucks whether he could fix it or not. I chose to take my business elsewhere. It's really a bummer that so many people are going nuts for hard-to-fix 90s cameras. The prices are going through the roof, and for some fragile cameras, repair is either impossibly or impossibly slow and expensive. My 1997 Yashica t4 super--I'm the original owner--a camera which has been to dozens of countries and delivered thousands of great photos, had started rewinding very slowly, and there was a hair stuck inside for at least five years. Finally, it stopped working, taking a rare roll of Portra 400 with it. Bah. It's hard to find anyone to work on these beloved cameras. And in case you're curious, they're beloved because they are a 35mm point and shoot camera that has a Zeiss lens so sharp it inspired an entire culture of fashion photographers. Anyway, I debated selling it for parts, tossing it....but then a cinematographer friend recommended Camera Max. Montrose is close. Harry answered the phone, and I drove out to see him the very same day. For those not in the know, Montrose is a very chill part of Glendale. Parking is super easy. The shop is packed with cool cameras and it is clear that the work takes precedence. At the shop, Harry took the time to inspect the camera while I waited! I mean, what's not to love there. How cool. It needed some basic tune up items and a cleaning. It was going to be $150 to fix and he thought it would be ten days but 'could be faster if I wanted it' Considering the cameras are selling for up to $1k on eBay now, this was an absolute fantastic price. And....Harry fixed it in less than a week. I just got it back. I'm very excited to put a roll through it. Effortless transaction, all with a smile. So if you have a point and shoot (or any other camera) that needs love on a budget, Harry has my highest recommendation. Thank you, Harry! read more

Being fair here; an update on the 18-200mm. First, the fungus (fingerprint) is still there. Second, the vibration control stopped working shortly afterwards. Third, the new? focus mechanism squeaked like a mouse. I was told it was out of his hands. It doesn't squeak now but is slow and I don't use the lens for fear of fungus contamination. Shame, as it's a nice lens. I still think this location is worth doing business with, especially given how manufacturers are making it impossible for 3rd-party services to repair their products; but, I also wish I were more assertive in getting my lens issue resolved amicably and without protest. read more

My Sony mirrorless sensor was in need of cleaning. I wanted to do it myself but decided not to. I did not want to risk ruining the sensor. I asked for a referral and I was sent to Camera Max. I called Harry and made an appointment to have him clean the sensor. He offered to do it while I waited. I had to run some errands so I told him to call me when it was done. I got the call in about an hour after I dropped the camera off. I am totally happy with the services and the reasonable price. His shop is a camera museum! I saw so many old film cameras I used to shoot with. I even saw a Canon D60, my first Canon digital camera. Talk about nostalgia!! He invited me to go back and hang out with him. I am going to do that the first chance I get. I saw my old film buddy, Pentax ME Super and a bunch of other Pentax film cameras. Wow. I told a photographer friend about Harry. Unprofessional service I brought my perfectly working Leica M2 to Harry to get rid of an annoying bouncing noise at lower speeds. After 1 month (I was told 1 week), he told me he overhaul the shutter twice but the noise still was there (this time at different speeds)that the sound was normal. I picked up the camera and he did not charge me as he told me he couldn't fix it. The very next day after I picked the camera I was on a job and the camera got jammed after only 7 shots. I immediately brought it back to him and after another month of continuous calls ( he would never call you back), and innumerable excuses and lies ( my camera was just opened day after day) I finally got my camera back. It was very hard to obtain clear information about what caused the jam (he didn't give any info to me by the phone). He repeats that was something loose he did not see when he overhaul the shutter or re-assemble the camera. He told me to pay the full overhauling price this time and that the fact that the camera jammed right after I pick it up from him was a fortuitous event that nothing has to be with him. He also suggested that I was hiding information from him like I knew the camera was bad. I tried to explain my dissatisfaction with his way to proceed with this when he threatened( without even let me finish explaining my self) me to open and mess with the camera if I don't pay right away with no more explanations or more questions asked. I'm very disappointed because I liked the guy - I truly liked him, it's a small business and an almost forgotten profession, but whats it's gone for good are good professionals who stay behind their job. It's getting almost impossible to trust someone anymore. I honestly doubt he did what he told me in this camera and/or in any of the cameras he fixed - or not- for me. Not to mention some new tiny scratches and stains on my shutter curtains.. stay away from this business. read more

Contacted Harry middle of 2023 and sent him four lenses September 5th. Took most of a month just to connect. He does not read his e-mail, does not return voice mail messages, and even when you speak to him, does not call back. After finally getting a quote, he told me about four weeks for my lenses. In February of 2024 I spoke to him and he clearly had not even touched the lenses--said he didn't think he could fix them! I sent him a label and he shipped them back--even that took several days to happen. Nice enough on the phone, but 5 1/2 months of waiting, just to learn he'd changed his mind about fixing the gear, $30+ in shipping....ridiculously poor service. Why give me a quote if you don't think you can fix them? Disappointed. Still haven't found a reliable repair tech in L.A. read more

I was referred here from a person on Facebook, when I asked if anyone knew of a place that repaired Rokinon lens. I was about to buy a new one when all the places I called said they don't do repairs on them. My iris was stuck after a crash when I was filming a skater and I thought the focus was off. I called and talk to the owner and he said to bring it in and they will check it out. Harry is the owner of this place and he has been there for 20 something years. The place itself is cool, with old cameras lying everywhere. He stayed open for me to arrive and he also had the lens fixed right away an hour! I'm so glad I found this place and will defiantly come back ( hopefully I won't have to) and recommend it to all my skate filmers/photographers.
